Screen off app for music playback? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hey guys, I listen to music on my phone all the time via the "touch" knockoff audio manager and I love it. I have batterystatus and I really like that I can turn off the screen with a few clicks. My question is does anyone know of a program that I can set my record button (or any programable hard button) to turn off the screen or something along those lines? I would love to still be able to control the music without the display, just to get that much more battery life.
Thanks for any help.

You can choose a hardbutton for screen on/off on the player called "mortplayer".

There are wonderfull skins too!

i know Wizard and Prophet are different...but FYI with my prophet the music keeps going when I tap the off button to "standby"; and I can control the volume/tracks with BT headset.
Don't know why it should be different with wizard.
Also there is a small util in the pdamobiz rom i am running called "displayswitch" which can be mapped to a hardware button. This works if you want to use the phone buttons with the screen off.
edit: turns out displayswitch is part of psshutxp http://ppcsoft.narod.ru/english/

You can assign any installed program to any of the hardware buttons by clicking Start/Settings/Personal/Buttons. Why not assign PSshut to the record button, and tap "Light Off" when PSshut pops up? This will blacken your screen while listening to music, saving some battery life. You can find PSShut by scrolling the drop down arrow box in "Buttons"

Mortplayer also can be configured to kill the screen and all buttons save one from a timer, in the latest version. Very easy to use, doesn't require an additional program to achieve your goal.
If you're totally locked into your audio manager, though, I'd look into Smartskey. I was not a big fan at first, but it's fairly capable, and with a little tweaking, will probably do what you want.

Media Player continuing to stream when device is 'off'

Hi all,
I use the BT A2DP profile to stream music through the media player and one of the 'features' that differs from the K-JAM (wizard) and is lacking in the TyTN is the ability to continue that stream even when the device is 'off' (useful for saving battery, switching off the buttons, etc.). With the TyTN whenever the device is turned off the stream also ceases. Does anybody know if there is someway of ensuring that the media player is not switched off along with the device (I'm guessing a registry setting or similar).
All help very welcome.
Cheers
I was wondering this also. My wizard was able to be "off" and still stream. ANyone got any brigjt ideas?

Have you tried just turning the screen off? PocketPlus has a utility called "Screen Toggle," which does just that.
When used in conjunction with the Button Lock (leaving only the power button active), you just might be able to solve your issue...

Yeah...what he said!
That what I do.
I really miss this feature to.
So there is no way to do it on the Hermes?
Its not particulary elegent to have to perform multiple steps to turn the screen off. it was much eaiser just to hit the off button and listen away...
I'm using VjDeviceLock wich is what you want, I think.
After you've installed it you should create a new shortcut in c:/windows/startmenu/programs/vijay555/vjdevicelock. You can copy an exiting one in this directory and edit the parameter. What you want is "-displayoff". I bound this to my Videocall-Button, cause I don't use video telephony.
If I listen to music I just have to press my Videocall-Button and VjDeviceLock turns off my screen and locks all Buttons except the power on/off one.
Also VjDeviceLock is just great to save money
If you get a sms or a call the device turns on itself. I once didn't notice this and called a random person out of my adressbook, because I had my trion in my pocket and were moving all the evening and somehow started a call.
This cannot happen again, because I started vjdevicelock with parameter "-install". Now everytime my trion turns on itself it gets automatically (re)locked.
thats a fantastic solution and it works really well!
what program are you using to remap the buttons?
Hi,
Does anyone else suffers strange key problems when using VJdevicelock;
After using -displayoff or -displaytoggle and resume back to normal, phone buttons (call/disconnect,videotalk) doesnt work anymore, it need to be softreseted before the buttos work again?
-Kha
EDIT:
just found out that when resuming from -displayoff, after pressing windows and ok softkeys, dialbuttos work again!
I'd appreciate if somebody here could advice me on how to map VjDeviceLock to VideoCall button on my TyTN (I have original TyTN ROM and the VideoCall key is functional ). I couldn't remap it using Buttons configuration utility in Settings.
as I said you have to create a Shortcut in your Startmenu. Shortcuts in Startmenu are shown as available possibilities in Start - Settings - Buttons (Perhaps it's called a bit different. I'm using a german version where it's called 'Tasten')
This is how I remapped it. I don't use a special program.
I use the device lock on today plugins.

This does not turn off your screen AND your device is sometimes getting unlocked when you receive calls or sms.

Thank you very much for your instant response. I did all you mentioned in your message and I remapped the VideoCall button (is it the Button between Buttons 4 and 5 ? ) but pressing it still doesn't activate VJDevice. Any other suggestions?
Is the device locked when you click on the shortcut?
If not: edit an existing shortcut, let's say "VJDeviceLock About.lnk". Make it point to: \Programms\vjay555\VJDeviceLock\VJDeviceLock.exe" -displayoff
It is right that there is only one "
When I open my shortcut in a text editor the content is:
Code:
64#"\Programme\vijay555\VJDeviceLock\VJDeviceLock.exe" -displayoff"
Yes. The device locks when I click on the shortcut itself but when I press VideoCall button, to which I had previously mapped the link, the Dialpad pops up.

How can you do this? Are you using a third party app? I see no way to bind anything other than 5 buttons on my device...
I bound it to "Button 5".

Display Lock without Button Lock for WMP?

Ow hell, I'm tired of looking for this on the forum, so I'll just ask it:
Is there a device lock application that can be assigned to a hotkey that turns off and locks the display BUT NOT THE BUTTONS.
I tried pLock and vjLock but it doesn't work.
The reason for this odd request is that I'd like to maintain WMP button control while playing music, while locking the display.
Hope I just overlooked it in my search.
Cheers,
Keeth
edit:
I think I just found it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=305402
edit:
Nope problem still stands. DeviceLock with "blank screen" doesn't work on my wizard. it just turns the display off for a sec and then on again.
I'm looking for something similar to the "display off" function in BatteryStatus but something that can be assigned to a key.
How about 'Slide2Unlock'?
I guess the question would be, why do you want a lock app that does not lock the buttons? Isnt that just turning the screen off?
The buttons on my wizard are not that easily pressed when in my pocket. So the problem is the touchscreen.
When i'm listening to music, i'd like just to put my hand in my pocket to skip to the next song using the directional pad.
There must be something out there that, as you said, just turns off the display (as BatteryStatus offers) but without making another application active or going to the Today screen (since then i would lose button control over the player).
Thanks Sian for the tip, I'll try slide2unlock
edit:
No, Slide2Unlock invokes the slider (evidently) when the display is turned off, therefore no media player button control

Audio tweak

I just got my HTC Touch and I'm loving it. I used the built in Audio apps for the first time yesterday (Windows media,Audio Manager, and Music). They worked fine but all had the same quirk. When playing audio the backlight never turned off. I think that is acceptable for video, since you are of course looking at the screen, but for audio you should be able to turn the screen off to preserve power. Is there an option to do this or is it just an oversight.
I tried hitting the power button but it just put the phone in sleep mode and cut/paused the music. I settled for lowering the backlight to its minimum.
Try turning on the Backlight Timer. I think it's disabled by default.
I nornally have this timer enabled, but have the opposite problem that it would then turn off when using GPS navigation (iGuidance). So I now have it disabled.
Search and install a small program called psShutXP. It is quite a nice little program - one of the options it gives you is to shut off your backlight without putting your phone into sleep mode. You could also download GSPlayer, another multimedia program. It also gives you the option of turning off the backlight while music is playing (though you probably don't need to have another audio application installed).
Hope this helps!
You could also try S2P with S2U2. S2P is a very nice looking audio player that has coverflow type browsing. S2U2 is a nice looking screen lock app that will work with it and allows for the backlight to go off and still play music.
I haven't tried the apps listed above yet but mu backlight does go off after a while (as set in the backlight settings). It is the actual screen that doesn't turn off. In other words my screen dims after a set time of no user interaction, but the screen remains on. I'll also try psShutXP and maybe GSPlayer and I'll let you know that happens.
Thanks for the posts
Add the registry key (dword) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Preferences
"UnattendedPlayback" and set to 1 and Windows Media will continue playing after you press the power button.

You would think that it would be an option in media player. I installed psShutXP and it works good. I think that I'll pass on the reg tweak for now, but thanks (I don't feel like loading a reg editing prog.).
In Windows Media, you can set the center button to shut off the screen. Go to Menu - Options and scroll over to Buttons. Click on Toggle Screen and then the Assign button. I picked ENTER, which is the center of the dpad.
Don't know how this works in other programs, but seems (to me) like they should have a similar option.
The media Player option works great however the registry entry did nothing ( and yes I rebooted after the change) I have the Telus Touch P3050
Okay guys after hours and hours of searching and messing with my registry I found a SOLUTION for HTC Audio Manager to stay on after pressing the power button to turn off the screen/suspend........
It is sooooo simple I'm just shaking my head, no more using psshutxp or other screen toggles.
It keeps playing...yayyyyy
First open Reg editor and go to HKLM\Software\HTC\AudioManager\Config
Now create a new "DWord value" name it DisableSuspend and give it a value of 1
(You can also change the value of "enter suspend" to 0 but with my new key it should change it on reboot anyways)
This was done on a Sprint Touch

Both MortPlayer and Kinoma FreePlay are great music apps that will let you turn off the power. Mortplayer has a built in EQ. I used it and loved it for a long time till I plunked down the $30 for Kinoma Play, which freakin' rocks.

Xperia silentmode

Hi guys, i've received my Xperia a couple of days ago, installed TomTom 7, Palringo Messenger and zsIRC.
I love it, i simply love it. But i have some problems with the usability which i believe you guys can help me iron out:
- If the Phone is put in Silentmode, the mp3 Players won't work, whether it is the Xperia Player Panel or MortPlayer... is there a workaround for this, or if not, is there a way to put silentmode on a hotkey, because it takes long to flip to the "Today" Page to put silentmode off...
- I tried MortPlayer because i found it hard to control the Xperia Panel Player with my finger while driving, but MortPlayer was kind of buggy, it changed the size to quater screen whenever i opened the keyboard and even without that bug i found it still too small since it didn't use the full resolution.
- Is there some kind kind of Alt+Tab like feature? I'd like to switch between tomtom and the mp3 player while driving and that would need some kind of quick window change button, is there a way of achieving that?
I don't have installed the original wm6.1 volume controle, but i think there are 2 bars and one of them for the system volume. I think it was the left one. Put the volume up and you should be able to hear sth. with the player.
EDIT: The Volume controle pops up when you press the volume down or up button
You can easily adjust volume and between modes normal, vibrate and silent with the volume up/down keys. Keep pushing vol down and you'll get to silent mode. Push vol up and you'll get back to normal mode through vibrate mode.
well, thats solved, but i still need something to change the programs while i'm driving, like a possibility to lay something like alt+tab on the ok button, for example.
Try AE Button Plus. You can set a button (single, double, triple or long press) for i.e. task manager (pretty neat aebp's own), alt+tab or switch to next application.

Music Volume

Hi folks
in the iphone, when i had the headphones plugged in, i use the volume buttons to control the music sound level. This thing works in every app where i was, just as long i listen to music at the same time. for example, i´m writing some emails and listining music at same time. If i choose to increase the sound level of the music, i just touch the up volume button.
But in hd2, i´m only capable of control the music sound level in the "music tab" of the sense UI.
Is there any tweak the i can control the music level when i´m in another app instead of "music tab"?
thanks a lot for your help
best regards
Your HD2 should do this already, adjust volume no matter what
program/app you are using ??
Yes it does. But on music tab, only appears a green bar of the volume control.
If i´m stay on another app, appears that horrible grey screen of sound control with that horrible "beeps" each time i press up or down.
What i want is the same situation like on the "music tab" (that green bar of the sound). You know what i´m trying to say?

Ah,yes now I understand....
There are various cabs to skin both of the volume controls and to remove the beeps, but I haven't seen one that replaces the standard volume for the
Sense music tab volume whilst in another program...
You can of course install Co0kies Home tab and put the music player right on your
one of your home screens in 3 different sizes...
With "touch tools" theres a tool to add the green sense volume overlay to other apps, you just run the app, shake your phone then whenever you use the volume keys in that app you'll get the nice volume meter.........
I dont know if its possible to get that to work on the home screen though..........
Just tried it, cant get it to work on ther manila tabs.
Its still quite handy though for things like opera and ereaders etc........
hello
thanks for your help.
where can i get that app?
thanks a lot
I found it in the search box but you can find it here..............
Once its installed its the "slim volume" your after........
Theres a few other nice little features in touch tools too, its a handy thing to have......
thanks a lot.
i´ll try that
cheers
