Flashing new ROM - will I lose Orange settings? - Touch HD General

Hi all,
I am new to flashing ROMs, but like the look of the new Leo ROMs that Dutty has.
I have looked through the site for a step-by-step guide and am fairly happy with the procedure. I understand I need to install Hard SPL and then flash the new ROM. Will I lose the phone SMS, Internet and Call settings? I am on Orange UK - I'm fairly sure their customer services won't be interested in helping me....
Cheers,
Jimmy

You will lose them initially, but when you put the Orange SIM card back in the phone and reset it the phone will reconfigure itself for the SIM card settings. I've done this several times with my own Orange SIM so I'm sure it works, don't worry

I have done the same with my service provider, after the flash my provider settings are updated.

Bear in mind that if it's a contract phone, flashing it will invalidate the warranty (so if you ever need it sent back, make sure you re-flash the original Orange version of the ROM and SPL, which you can find on here with a quick search). They can't tell over the air that you've flashed anything, only if they get the handset back for repair.
The only other thing to note is that Orange adds stuff (like WorldCard Mobile) that isn't present in all the cooked ROMs, so pick your new one carefully if you're using something particular.

Thanks guys, will give it a go. Anyone recommend a good ROM? I'm looking for something that's quicker and more user-friendly than the shipped one.

I'm using Dutty's WM6.5 Leo R7 ROM. Ticks all the boxes for me. Tried Miri's ROMs as well but prefer Dutty's stuff. Can find it on HTC Pedia.
Cheers
Dazza

should probably point out, flashing doesn't necessarily invalidate your warranty - i took orange care(the extended warranty pretty much), and had to send my phone into orange to get repaired, i told them id flashed the rom to winmo 6.5 and they said it didnt matter - as long as i hadn't changed the spl, all they'd do is wipe it and give me a new one...
so in order to keep your warranty valid, maybe consider using uspl instead?

This should really have been asked in dummies guide thread. No need to create new thread for these queries.
Thread closed
p.s. also, bare in mind you can still validate warranty even after you have used HSPL. You just need to return to stock SPL and any stock rom. Step-by-step procedure to return to stock SPL from HSPL can be found at bottom of first post in this thread

hay dude whats up ? after flashing ROM ur device restarts automatically & prompts u with ur carrier provider name eg orange uk just tap ok and restart u r done. Ur settings r created automatically. But be sure that u dont flashing radio from other posts it'll brick ur phone. Then why r u waiting for ? Go happy flashing.

spartan why do you close every thread wheneva someones question is answered? it stops people using the same thread to ask simlar questions lol meaning they have to start a new thread hence more clutter lol

If people used the search function they would discover these older threads with solutions and then there would be no need to create a new friend to ask similar question!!!

Telstra HTC HD - Flashing the ROM

I have a Telstra branded HD and wanted to know if anyone has tried flashing the ROM on one of these to a standard ROM?
If so, which one did you use to flash the ROM?
Not that I know anything about flashing ROM's and the phone is only a day old so I am a little worried about trying it.
The first thing I suppose.....is there anyway of backing up the ROM and anything else needed to return the phone to a Telstra branded ROM for warranty purposes if required.
I am at my wits end with this phone in it's current form as I am trying to run it with a vodafone SIM, so all the Telstra shortcuts and websites don't work anyway, that and the Telstra tab seems to replace the weather tab with the current ROM.
I suppose I had better see if I can search the forum for instructions on flashing ROM's for dummies....anyone know a good thread?
Flashing a ROM is not difficult its flashing an spl that is scary(since if you mess up or if your device shuts off while its in the process you have a brick in your hands now, with a rom all you need to do is try again.), also if you want it to be at stock condition if you want to revert back to the original ROM, then use USPL, doesn't change the spl. You have to dump the ROM from the device and then you save it some where safe, then you flash a ROM of your choice. Its not that hard to initiate the process though, since its basically the same for all the devices, if you search around here on the forum for a guide then that should do you some good , but since I am nice here are some useful links.
Guide to flashing:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Flashing Guide
USPL:

HSPL:

List of cooked ROMs:

Awesome, thanks for that, I am off to do some reading, one quick question...
On the first guide it says I need to CID-unlock the phone, it that what USPL and HSPL can do for me?
Yea, you don't have to cid unlock since its not available for the Blackstone yet.
Just HardSPL'd my Telstra BLAC120?
I've just used HardSPL on my Telstra Touch HD which is a BLAC120? Is it safe to continue flashing ROM's or can I somehow go back to the original SPL? Then use USPL?
The phone is still in working order after the HardSPL Flash.
Cheers,
-Lucus
HSPL is perfectly fine, but if you want it to be like stock(for warranty purposes), just use USPL to flash the original spl back. You are perfectly fine how you are Lucus Maximus.

This is making my head spin.....been reading and downloading and I am getting very confused, once it all falls into place I am guessing it is going to be easy.
Right I would like to dump the existing ROM and flash with a new one....I need to confirm the steps and what is required.
CID-Unlock the phone, from what you said I don't need to worry about this part
1. Run USPL - have downloaded v2.4...should be good to go
2. What is RUU Update as it mentions it in the instructions for USPL
3. I am guessing at this point I need to backup the existing ROM, not sure how this is done
3. Then the guide says to download the new ROM and run the exe and follow the steps.....sounds easy enough
Some of the guides don't really explain much.....anyway I am thinking of giving it a go.
So do you flash radio's and splash screens using the same method.
Sorry for all the questions (I am guessing you have heard them all before, but I can't find a thread from a ROM flashing virgin like me with all the info), I have been reading, but gets a little confusing after a while.
Ok, RUU update is just the .exe file to use the .nbh(rom file) so it can start flashing.
Hmmm. . . . . .if I had any htc device right now I would make a video guide. . . .
It takes like 2 times for you to get used to flashing a phone, don't worry we have all been there .

If you don't want to worry about backing up your existing ROM the Telstra one is available on the HTC website here
Hope that helps

Thanks for that....right now to go and find myself a new ROM.
Just out of interest, which ROM did you use Lucas?
Been looking at this.......
Dutty's ROMS
What is the difference with these:
HD V1.7 5.2.20769.1.4.5 Full CVSD WWE
HD V1.7 5.2.20769.1.4.5 Full MSVC WWE
I am yet to work out all this ROM talk......I am guessing WWE is the English version, but what is "CVSD" & "MSVC"
Oh and how do I work out what radio version these ROMS use to make sure it is the same as the one I have
When you turn on your device, look at the red R and see what it says, then when you flash a ROM with a different radio, just re flash yours.(same process as flashing a ROM but easier, and there are different radios available to DL).

FAQ: What are CVSD and MSVC.
Solution: CVSD is Cyberon Voice Speed Dial which is mostly the default voice application in most shipped ROMs. MSVC is Microsoft Voice Command which is an advance voice application from MS.
I tried Black Pearl, but most things I've read are saying that Dutty's is the best, so giving that a go now.
As long as I can get all the telstra site settings working I'll stick with it otherwise it's back to the Telstra ROM untill I can find out a way to get it all working.
-Lucus
Too easy, flashed the ROM to Duttys v1.7
Now to go and find all the missing ring tones and stuff, I think I saw something in a thread about Dutty having extra cabs to install this stuff...
I would recommended this to anyone who is trying to run the Telstra branded HD on anything other than the Telstra network.
Getting there now, I have managed to download all the ringtones and stuff, so I have more than the 3 ringtones supplied with the ROM
Where is this MSVC that is supposed to be part of the ROM???
Off to search some more and see what other software I can find.
This has made the Telstra branded HD a lot better, all Telstra branding has gone, including splash screen and the phone actually works now, can get POP3 email, Internet, Exchange email etc without an issue.
The first thing it did was set the phone up for the correct Network as soon as I put in the SIM and powered it up....great!
Well I was really pissed off with the HD with all the Telstra branding and was at the point of returning the HD and going back to the iPhone, but now things are starting to look up......we will see how things go.

Yep, all you needed to do is change the ROM, you didn't need to return anything. It was just the shipped ROM that's all.
Thanks again for your help....
Still trying to find the MSVC app in Dutty's ROM v1.7???
I downloaded the MSVC version, but can't see the application
great info here guys, just got my HD the other day and dislike all the Telstra branding. one question though before I begin changing ROM's, did you guys finally end up getting the weather tab to work, or the "customize tabs" option in the settings tab?
cheers,
Ditto! Can someone pls confirm Dutty's ROM has weather+stocks tab etc? And can someone who downloaded the Telstra ROM off HTC please mirror it somewhere? (attach here or mediafire it etc). Or if anyone has an official Blackstone rom from another region that would be good too... many thanks!

How many of us have successfully flash WM6.5

Well
how many of us have successfully flash WM6.5?
is it advisable to flash it?
Personally I am happy with SPB Mobile Shell 3. The I am not interested in another WinMo version until 7, which will need another phone.
GPS performans with WM6.5
Flashed with Tommy34's ROM with WM6.5.
Very happy that my GPS fixing -boring- delay is fully resolved.
I almost believed in my Device have had a hardware defect, then realized it is none..
I have got one single trouble that SKYPE WinMobile v2.5 can not be installed..
I will try v3.0 Beta ASAP I am able to download..
***Edited***
Beta v3.0 works out..
I installed tommy34 cHome 0.4 ROM and I'm very happy with it. My gps finally works too...and the phone is more response in general.

I have not been able to flash my phone.
I am using Vista and when I try and flash the rom on the phone, I get:
Vista has found new hardware (I think it was a CDMA Driver)
I've flashed WM6.5 (can't remember which version I used), and I thought all was going well, until I tried to sim unlock it. The phone is 2 months old, with Orange branding, and had the horrible Orange Unique Manager, which is why I wanted to flash the phone, and I assumed the phone was simlocked. After I flashed it, I bought a Sim Unlock Code, but when I put a 3 sim card in, I didn't get the expected "Enter SIM Unlock Code" prompt. Instead I just get "No Service" displayed on the home screen with the exclaimation mark at the top where the signal strength is displayed. I've also tried with an (active contract) T-mob Sim, and a Tesco Mob Sim. Same thing, I don't get the prompt to be able put the unlock code in.
I can't help thinking it's because I've flashed the phone, it seems like there's something preventing the Enter SIM Unlock Code dialog from coming up. Is there anyone else with this problem, or a solution? What ROMs are people using that they have sucessfully SIM unlocked their phones with?
Thank you!
So does it still work with an Orange Sim?
I have flashed my Orange UK Jade with various flavours of WM6.5, all with good results, currently using a version cooked by PDAVIET, with no issues.
Guys, is it possible to flash to Windows 6.5 then flash again to 6.1 if all doesn't go well?
just wondering but are PDAVIET, Ironeagle and Tommy34s version of wm 6.5 all have 8gb micro sd support. And also which would you recommend as the best.
I flash 6.5 German and ist is working grate.
I used
Jade_LeanCut_GER_WM65_5.2.23001_OEM_2.33.721.1
Installed
2DManila_1_20_19131530_00
And MUI 407 files from erviuskitchen german kittchen.
And installed only th programms that i need.
Only i need Thai caracters in sms. It is not possible to change the thaom font to a full wich Asiatic caracters. installed msss.tff and change all to it, but manila sms does not take care about font change in sms/messages...
I tryed to coock a rom usin erviuskitchen german kittchen wich only changing tahoma font. but all roms i cooked with it are getting instable after 2 dayes. My favorite navigation system wich german and Asien maps does not start afer 3 times anymore.
Si i stick nearly fully satisfyed with the Jade_LeanCut_GER_WM65_5.2.23001_OEM_2.33.721.1
Hi,
I got my HTC since 2 mounth, and i really want to test WM6.5, but i must say that i'm a little afraid about flashing my phone.
I've read the "flash for n00bs" post, and it seems that there is a way to "flash-back" your phone to a factory version, am I right...?
By the way, if i want to use my waranty, can i "flash-back" my phone ?
Sorry for my bad english, thanks guys !

Hello,
I am from Brazil and bought my Touch 3G about two months ago. It came with WM 6.1.
Last week I successfully applied the "Hard SPL 2.33 by Olinex" and then Flashed it with "Touch3G__WM6.5__2_33_721_17__B23033_WWE" ROM from PDVIANET.
Everything is running fine. The only comment is that we really need to disabled the 3G (H) network and run just with Edge (E) in order to save some battery. Other than that I recommend everybody to upgrade to WM 6.5

O2UK rom over top of TMOBILE rom

hi ok so before you jump on me yes i did "UTFSE"
nothing quite seemed to fit and after trawling thro pages and pages of results i decided to bite the bullet enable flame shield and post a question.
is it possible to load an O2uk rom over the top of the tmobile rom
the tmobile rom is "1.72.110.4 (86525) WWE"
i'm on o2 and hate looking at all the crappy webnwalk rubbish and all the tmobile branding
I'm a total noob to HTC HD2 and Windows Mobile this is my very first device and have waitied some month to procure myself one lol
can someone help and let me know if it is possible and location to a factory rom for o2 or alternatives i'm open to suggestions
thanks... oh and HI community
sure. It wont go over teh top of it, but yes, it will replace it.
get hspl3 from my sig, run it, (with phone connected to usb) choose 2.08.hspl (NOT 2.08.0000, that's a stock spl)
get for example, the 1.66 wwe (world wide english)rom from the hd2 stock roms thread HERE (first post, first link, 1.66 folder)
run the .exe and it will flash over usb.
the phone will be like unused, so be sure and back up your data.
as long is it's not a tmobile usa phone- different memory config: bad for phone
it would already be a brick if it were a tmous, considering it is already running 1.72.110.4 (86525) WWE, , , hehehe
out of interest, why would you want to swap one provider branded rom for another? I'd go for the 1.66 wwe if i were you, , dont think that the 02 1.72 rom is updated, its teh same as 1.66, it just already has teh three or so updates applied, and it includes operator branding.
if you really want to flash the hd2 then i would suggest flashing one the roms from here. energy rom would be my choice..
thanks for the info guys
sorry been busy last few days
@samsamuel
Thanks for the info i'll try and do some more reading and try your method thx
and i wanna change the operator branding cuz i'm just picky lol its annoying clicking links on twitter and facebook and sms's etc and being taken to WEB 'n' WALK opera mobile browser even tho i've installed opera 10 for it :S its little annoying features that p me off lol with the o2 rom it would be as if its factory reset straight from o2 without me having to mess with too much stuff
i'm still a noob in such matters - don't wanna run before i can walk.
i've noticed the version i have installed ALREADY has some of the updates and tweaks included on the forums......
@Dumbquestion...... how would i tell if its a tmobile USA one? i'm pretty certain its not but i'd like to make sure.
i'm currently out of work and running on a shoestring budget and have saved up a long while now to buy this lol just dont wanna turn it into a £270 Brick lol
heh, well first, the web n walk stuff is down to t mo using a proxy, so you can forget that with o2.
in all honesty, go for the unbranded wwe 1.66 (in fact as of february o2 started shipping unbranded phones anyway, only some of the o2 customers can use that 1.7 o2 rom without needing hspl)
as for confirming its a u.k tmo phone, with the rom that's on it can't possibly be a tmous, they can only take roms v 2.x or better., however other ways to tell are
tmous has green send key red end key, 1024meg storage, and it says t mobile beneath the earpiece.
ahhh thats great news then.... i'm gonna go read up on the flashing and stuff before i even attempt anything
thanks for your help guys MANY thanks
oh one final thing..... can i back up the rom thats currently installed ? and re flash that back if and when i need to ?
well you can, but its not easy, and its pretty pointless. In the rom development section there is a thread called official roms or some such.(look in the 'list of stickies' sticky to find it)
In there, first post, first link, is a whole load of all the various official roms. All the wwe ones, most of the operator branded ones, most of the tmous ones (you can flash any rom, and any radio, , its only t mobile US (tmous) users that need to worry, so dont fret about that)
ok cool some sound advice thanks a lot

Transition from XPERIA to HD2

Im used to flashing XPERIA X1. I did id 100 times.
I just saved enough money to buy myself HD2 which is very expensive in Bosnia.
So i want to be very carefull with it. Im sorry for opening a new topic but try to understand me. LOL.
What is the major differences between flashing X1 (kovsimg.nbh) and HD2
Is it like XPERIA and the first flash via USB so you can later use kovsimg.nbh files on MicroSD for new ROMS.
What are the risks??
No its not too different,if I were you wouldnt think of flashing from the SD/Card, for now,its always safer to do it by active Sinc with your PC,its better to forget the Xperia and start from scratch, its very easy once you put together the bits and pieces, and welcome to the forum.

Thanks. Its always good to see non-arogant people on internet who want to help.
Android will be important part of my HD2. Having two systems on one phone is great. I used android on my X1 but versions for X1 are still far away from beeing usable for everyday work.
Main reason for flashing ROM on my NEW HD2 is becouse of special WM ROM for HD2 which enables low battery consumption for Android.
Thanks again. And if anyone have something to add...please do so.
P.S. I flashed my X1 lots of times with microSD method and i did not have a single problem. But if you say activesync method is better than i shall do it via USB.
Xperia although branded as a Sony ericsson Device is really made by HTC. (HTC Kovsky) So the flashing process is more or less identical. Flash HSPL and then your custom Roms.
OK another Questin. My X1 was without warranty.
My HD2 is Vodafone branded (no idea why), there is no vodafone in Bosnia. I have 12 months warranty not with vodapfone but with local mobile shop.
Does flashing vodafone update changes serial number or warranty
And does flashing custom ROMs changes warranty. I guess it does.
Other question...does flashing custom rom changes Serial or IMEI number???
Before it was not important to me. But now it is.
Flashing does not change imei number but I think it does void the warranty if you flash a custom spl.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
I now. But in my warranty paper they is specific "serial number must not be changed"
Flashing is not changing IMEI, but is it changing SERIAL NUMBER???
Nope, flashing your phone will not change your IMIE or your phone's serial number, and even if flashing it would void your warranty, bringing it back to stock condition (just like it is now) is no harder than flashing a ROM.
So as far as warranty, not much to worry about
Like a previous poster said though, read everything
Then read it again
Then have fun flashing !!!

THX. When you say its not harder than flashing. Do you mean backing up your ROM and flashing it or flashing original ROM.
you can install back your original Stock SPL,check here for HSPL thread and look for HSPL2_Run.EXE this will restore the original SPL,after that Download your original Stock ROM fro HTC support website with your S/N and flash it from your computer by connecting through USB and active Sync, this way you are back to your stock phone.

[Q] Flashing ROM For Warranty

Hi Guys, First off I would like to thank everyone for all their amazing ROMs.
I'm a long time lurker, first time poster. So I think the entire chef community need a big round of appluase before I start.
So here's the deal, I lost my HD2, got it barred, Sim and Phone, then, Someone recovered it!
I asked O2 to unbar it, Could not be done. 6 Days on and my phone remains barred. What is weird is that other network SIMs work in my phone, and my SIM works in other handsets. Ya. Pretty freaky.
Anyway, they want me to send it in for repair / replace. Need to make sure I have everything Stock so they don't go "LOL U BRICKED IT AND VOIDED WARRENTEH SUX FOR YEW"
About to Flash RUU_Le2_UK_1.72.206.3_Radio_CRC_Signed_15.32.50 .07U_2.07.51.22_2_Ship.exe (From 4shared shared folder with teh stock ROMs)
From what I've read this should solve my worries. I just want confirmation on this and/or any advice on what I would have to do to return it to factory Settings so they don't PWNnarf me for using the HD2 to it's full potential.
Thanks again to the whole community ;D
If your phone is O2 UK branded, then that should be fine. Once it is flashed, check that the ROM and RADIO are correct and boot up in BootLoader mode and check that the SPL is 1.66.0000 and not ending with .HSPL
It does end in hard HSPL after flashing a stock ROM. Anyway to fix this?
If it helps at all, I had the New windows phone 7 ROM before this, if that makes any difference ;3
EDIT: DISREGARD THIS I found a solution. Close thread or summat.
