Hello guys, I'm new here and interested in buying a galaxy tab. I'm definitely wanting to get one with a contract for the data plan for different out of home purposes. I was wondering what your opinions were on which carrier to try and buy from?
I was originally wanting to buy one from Sprint with the 2gb data plan only $30 per month. With me just turning 18 and no credit I'd figure a huge deposit ($500) would be required as about a month ago when I attempted to buy an iPhone. But I tried with Sprint and ended up being approved for 2 lines with a $50 deposit, which I was pretty excited about and preceded to purchase said tab. We get thru with me paying the deposit and then they required a valid credit card to be ran, of course I don't own one myself, needless to say I had to cancel the transaction. Is this the case with all carries as well?
I could probably obtain a valid credit card from my grandmother but would rather not go through the hassle if this is the only carrier that requires this non-sense.
Thanks for reading guys, I appreciate it, any input to help me out here?

I would buy from T-Mobile. They are cheaper by $50, have limited international support and T-Mobile newer faster network is backwards compatible with them, so you might get faster download speeds.
Not sure about the whole credit card thing - why did they need one? You could try getting a capital one card, might be lucky...
With at&t is not required to have your credit check since you have to pay full price anyway. Now for monthly service you do need a credit card, but all that process is done by you at anytime you want and is done through the tablet itself. The at&t one can also be hacked as a phone if you want. I did it to mine and is currently my main phone.

Thanks for the info, I was reading alot of users choosing T-Mobile, so there 4g runs with the tab?
They claimed all they needed the credit card for was to run it and make sure it was valid and they'd just take $1 off it and return it back on it after verified. I'm guessing this is some safety feature to ensure if you don't pay your bill or something they can just charge the credit card? But my bank debit card wouldn't work so I'm not sure.

Oh, I see. That's understandable, but a bit expensive for my wallet for the time being to pay full price for one of these. The ability to do it all through the tablet sounds neat and pretty nice in the long run. Might consider this option in a few months if my other options don't pan out. Thanks!

Not quite.. I think its more like 3.5G. Check here: http://thedroidguy.com/2010/12/t-mobile-confirms-galaxy-tab-fastest-on-t-mobile/
Apologies if this isn't the right place for this, but I figured since I'm hoping to buy a N10, it would be ok.
I would like to get the 16gb N10 when it comes out. I just received an american express gift card for $350 from my work, which i had wanted to use towards the tablet.
Does anyone know of a way that I can use 2 forms of payment in the play store? There is a pretty simple solution for amazon (buy an amazon gift card, and use a regular credit card for the difference), but Google Play credit isn't applicable to devices (for some odd reason).
Otherwise, I guess I will have to wait until the 16gb version hits walmart (or another store), since I can't justify to my wife $100 for 16 extra gigs of storage.
Try it contracting google customer support to see if they can credit your account with it or set up two forms of payment.

I meant to update this thread, but forgot.
I called Google yesterday, and they told me that there is no way that they can take 2 forms of payment because if they did, and I requested a refund, they wouldn't know how much to put on which card...
Kind of a lame excuse to me, but i wasn't expecting much anyway. I wish Amazon would sell the N10, then I wouldn't have to worry about it, but as it is, I guess I will have to wait to pick up a 16GB in stores if it ever comes.
Why don't you try going to a walmart, or some malls have them, get a pre-paid Visa card that goes up to $500, use the american express gift card to put the $350 on it, then whatever you need to put the rest on it, and use that to get the Nexus tab.

Hi,
I'm 18, and I'm looking to purchase the Nexus 4, but I do not have a credit card. I don't want to ask my parents for their credit card so I was wondering whether or not I can purchase the phone using the Play Store gift cards?

lol go buy $350 worth of Google credit!! Never heard of anyone doing that before!
From the google play gift card site:
"*Google Play gift cards cannot be redeemed for Android app subscriptions, magazine subscriptions, or hardware and accessory purchases. Refer to the Google Play Gift Card Terms and Conditions for more details. Content subject to availability by country."
You could go the prepaid visa or master-card route.
Better advice is for you to go to a bank or credit union and open a savings and a checking account. Get a debit card off your checking account and you can buy the phone with that. Look into a secured credit card as a possible way to build credit, at 18 you most likely have no credit history.
^ Yeah, Checkings and Savings accounts can be setup quickly. I opened up an account at Wells Fargo in 15-20 minutes with an employee and having a debit card is really nice for Amazon, Paypal, Google Play, and other online services. I'm 19.
Just give your parents cash and use their card. Or open a bank account.

Buy a green dot card at walmart. Most banks also offer something similar, a prepaid debit card to be used as a universal gift card. You could give your parents the money and have them buy the card from their bank for you. Or just set up a bank account, they're damn near necessary now days.

Are you guys sure it'll work with a prepaid credit card? Aren't they considered a "virtual credit card" as well?

A Virtual Credit Card (VCC) cannot be used with your purchase in the device store. Also, at this time, the country of your credit card must match the the country to which you're shipping.

Thanks for the replies, I'll stop by Wells Fargo or CitiBank today.
Didn't see that bit. I'm going to guess that no they are not considered virtual credit cards. One of my banks does the virtual credit card, the way it works is if your about to make a purchase from a merchant you don't trust you can generate a one time use credit card number that only allows the amount you specify. They typically expire in 24hrs.

Hi, all...
Does anybody know anything about Google PlayStore Gift Cards ?
I don't have a credit card (but do have a debit card), and there's a fair number of apps I would like to buy from PlayStore...
...and these Gift Cards seem like a viable alternative for somebody who doesn't have a credit card.
So, how do they work? Does one need a credit card in order to redeem one? Do they have anything to do with Google Wallet?
I'm aware this question has little to do with the Nexus 7 generally, but in my defence, the stuff I'll be buying will be Nexus 7 related... for example, franco.Kernel updater.
------
So if anybody has any experience of using these cards, and any details they could provide... it would be very much appreciated.
I would hate to buy one... and then find (for whatever reason), I can't use it.
Thanks in advance.
Rgrds,
Ged.
I use them all the time. It just goes straight to your google account. You can even do app refunds with them. Go get one man their cool.

Dno if any1 knows, but since I purchased my N7 when that deal was on, I got £15 play credit.
However I still have 59p of it left, which is unusable as most apps are 62p or higher.
If I purchased another £15, would my 59p be added on, so its £15.59 or would it just go to £15 and I'd loose my credit?
THANKS!

When you redeem a card, it goes into your Google account. Any added credit is lumped into that sum.

I too have paid for apps on Debit Card, however I'd prefer to have a pre-paid card applied. (Too many transactions in my account as it is)!
And Credit Card has nothing to do with Americans.
Debit Card = You need Funds in your account to buy items etc, and have a very small if any over-draft.
Credit Card = You need 0 Money what so ever, the card pays for the items and add's it as "Credit" to your account, then at the end of every month you pay the credit off. Its a type of loan sort of, hard to explain.
I know the difference, what I meant was that they don't seem to define a difference between the two in America that I've come across.

Well, in America, I've never seen a debit card that can't be processed as either debit or credit. As long as the money is in my account, I can use my debit card as credit or debit. The only real difference is that some point of sale transactions take longer to process if I run my card as credit.

I recall trying to use a debit card a while ago, and for some reason it didn't work. So I suspected I needed a credit card... or maybe I was just doing something wrong.
Anyway... I've bought a Google Play Store gift card, and I intend to buy several more... 'cos they're really easy to use!
Spent the past couple of days splurging (relatively speaking)... updated Apex to PRO, Titanium to PRO, got HD Widgets, francos updater app, Temple Run Oz and a whole slew of other stuff.
Just got be careful I don't HARDBRICK.... my wallet!!.
---------------------------------------
For anybody considering buying one of these Gift Cards, but might be a bit reticent (as I was) - here is how they work.
(This is from my experience as a UK user... it might be slightly different elsewhere.)
First, you definitely don't need a credit OR debit card (this was my primary concern) to use one.
Just buy the Gift Card... they come in £10, £25 and £50 denominations.
Scratch of the cards backpanel... this yields an alphanumeric code.
On your Nexus 7, open the PlayStore App. From the menu, select the 'Redeem' option.
Enter the alphanumeric code from the Gift Card.
On first use, you will be requested to set up a Google Wallet... this just requests your Google Account password and your postcode.
And that's it... you are now free to buy whatever you want from PlayStore.

Ged.

You can't have a Debit card that acts as a Credit Card, they're two totally different processes.
Hense the name difference. Debit is just "Credit" that you already have, a.k.a Money, Credit is where they loan you the money and you pay it back, which is why you have a "Credit" rating, to say how good you are at paying Credit back.
You can't have a credit card until your 18, hence there is a vital need for Debit cards, especially nowadays with the digital revolution and all.
You have to remember, all money on a credit card and in a bank doesn't actually exist, they're just digits on a screen, the only reason you have those digits is because you have handed your banker money (which he then invests to earn a profit). I've ranted a little here, but I didn't want you to assume they're the same, banking is very complex and thats why they have a variety of different banks and cards.
I don't want to sound Smug, but I must stress THEY ARE TOTALLY DIFFERENT.

While I understand that the two cards are different, he was saying that a debit card can be processed as a credit sale at the register. I do this all the time. When you pump gas for example.. the pump will ask "credit or debit " , if you choose debit, you enter your pin number. Credit you don't..
Yes the cards are different, but both cards can generally be used interchangeably during a point of sale transaction.

While this may be the case, if your card is a "Debit" card, you can not use it as a credit card.
Credit Card being the card that allows you to have transactions without actually having the available funds.
I have only a debit card, and yes I use it to pay for gas, but I have to already have the funds within my account. Whereas if I had a credit card, I could have $0.00 or £0.00 in my account and still purchase the gas.
I think we are agreeing here, but in a different mind set.

This information is available inn the apps promotion and via the Samsung pay website. However, I can tell you how it worked for me. There was no minimum limit to the purchase and as soon as Samsung pay was used (I bought a Jimmy John's), a popup in the app let's you know that the gift card is available. You then get to choose which card you want and select it. You then get the option to add it to your Samsung Pay app. I already spent the Samsung gift card I chose and it worked like a charm. But you really should check the website for further info and card eligibility.
Oh, and make sure you have the latest update of Samsung Pay on your phone before you make a purchase so the promotion will be pre-loaded. You can see if it is there checking the "events" part of the app.

Pretty much anywhere that has a magnetic strip reader or a tap to pay terminal. The kind that you swipe the card yourself. I'm not sure about gas pumps though. That's one of the things that makes Samsung Pay better than Android Pay or Apple Pay (in my opinion). MST tech means there doesn't need to be a NFC terminal involved.
