I thought it was possible to rename the widget names that are displayed in the screens. However, long pushing a widget starts the option to move/reorder/delete the widget, but renaming is not possible.
Am I overseeing something? I thought I had read somewhere that renaming is possible.
Thanks!

Is it possible to rename icons/shortcuts on your home screen? I'm on a rogers branded magic, which has been rooted and running a hero rom. for example for google mail, its named "google mail" but its too long and you just see the "google m..." i hate it, I'd rather be able to rename it to Gmail or something like that. any ideas or how-tos?
You can change icons and rename apps with bettercut. It a paid app. I am not sure but i think anycut can rename too. No changing icons though...
Why oh why can't we create new empty ones to use on our own? Also it seems there's no home screen folders in Honeycomb.
If anything, I'd love to be able to change the background on those Acer cubby-hole screens. They are a tad to, um, off... for me.

yeah they don't seem to match any other theming on the device.
I think we need a [DEV] to root around and find out where those wallpapers are so we could try and push our own (overwrite them with our own).
Do folders exist in Honeycomb?
Not that I'm aware of. My wifes Archos 101 w/2.2 does but I guess they removed that for Honeycomb. Vanilla'wise, I mean.
EDIT
I do use Circle Widget, so that sates my need for folders.
do you mean Circle Launcher? https://market.android.com/details?id=de.dbware.circlelauncher&feature=search_result
Yep - sorry my mistake. Circle Launcher. Works well.
What's really annoying is that apps disappear from the folder when you update them.
Has anyone tried Folder Organizer on Honeycomb?
Autoapporganizer
Apps Organzier
Circle Launcher
all so much better than the default Acer ones.
I use folder organizer. It works pretty well, but it shrinks the app icons a little bit. I'd rather they stay full sized. When you update an app, it sometimes disappears from folder organizer and you have to add it again.
I've been using Zeam 2.8.8 as my desktop launcher and think it's great for our Nooks. I am having a problem when trying to remove large widgets, i.e 4x2, 2x3. I long press the widget and drag it to the trash can, I'm not that stupid, but when it's in the right spot the widget and trashcan are supposed to both turn red. Problem is on a grayscale like Nook there is no visiable change in color. Is there an app I can use to remove the widget? I've been looking for an app the past three days but not lucky. I also am using ES File manager which allow sys access. Is the wedget listed somewhere in the system files so I can delete it? Go Launcher is more better in terms of widget removal.
Hello.
I have a (broken) widget on my home screen that is broken and that i can't remove.
Any attempt to drag it to the waistbasket, results in the selection screen for a new shortcut.
I can find the widget still in my 3rd party widget list. It's called "Traffic" and has an icon of the green light of a trafficlight.
I need to know where on the S7 the information on that widget is stored, so i can remove it by hand.
Thanks in advance.
PS. Oh, and i have tried all suggestions given by the site when i posted this topic.
If you have root go on data/system and edit appwidget.xml removing that widget.

Did not work. This file only contains the info on the original Emotion widgeds.
The widget i'm talking about is a 3rd party widget.....
Hi.
Just got a Nexus 4 after some thieving Spanish barstewards stole my Note 2. Loving the phone so far.
Quick question. Can you add to the Google apps folder on the home screen that is there when you first start it up? I know you can delete from it as I deleted the Youtube widget, but I wanted to add the Google Now widget but when I try to add it as if it was a folder it doesn't work.
Is it just not possible?

Guess I'm not following what you mean exactly by folder?
Are you using the stock launcher or another launcher (ie: apex, nova, etc) .
Normally to add a widget you would simply long-press the home screen, select widgets, and pick that, and should show up as a widget, if you're creating a folder you're probably dragging the app icon onto something else.
Yeah, I thought I wasn't explaining myself very well.
It's stock launcher. On the home screen, when you first set up the phone, there is a widget/folder titled "Google" which is effectively a folder containing the widgets for various Google apps ie Gmail, Google+, maps etc. I wondered whether it is possible to add to this folder (for want of a better word). If I try to drag a widget over it that doesn't work.
Hope that's a bit clearer.
Don't worry - sorted it.
