Volume Control - a big improvement - Touch Diamond2, Pure General

If you, like me, use your Topaz for frequent music playing, and find the default volume control (the large full screen version) very irritating, there is a way to enable the slim version of the control which appears for wmp for any program you want.
The slim version only works using the volume keys, you can't touch it, but it offers at least 15 steps and doesn't interrupt the music. This "hack" has finally made the Topaz a viable music player for me

Using a registry editor (I use Total Commander), navigate to HKLM\Software\HTC\VolumeOverlay\3rdPartyAPClass and you will see a list of apps which use the slimvolume control. You have to add keys (new folders in Total Commander) for all the apps you want to add.
Under these keys you have to create a String value containing the Window Classname of the app. You can get these names using a program like FdcSoft Task Manager v3.1. I've listed a few of the common ones below to save you the time.
Create a Key: "Nitrogen"
Create a String Value called “ClassName” with value "CNtgWndMain"
Create a key: "CorePlayer"
Create a string value called "ClassName" with value "wCorePlayer"
Create a key: "Opera"
Create a string value called "ClassName" with value "Opera_MainWndClass"
And so on. Take care to get caps and lower case correct, and don't include ""s. If you get the window class names wrong, don't worry, it just won't work till you get it right.
The settings take effect immediately, no need to restart.
PS: If you're not confident editing the registry, best not to do it. If you do, take great care, don't accidentally delete any keys!

And is it possible to add a key for the touch-flo music app?

Wow thanks for that, is alot nicer now .
I use my topaz as my mp3 player everday, had my first journey using it today with wm6.5 and it was a nightmare. Couldn't use coreplayer unless i held the phone in my hand, otherwise if i put it in my pocket it would just press random keys. Going into suspend mode by pressing power key just stops playback so i had to use the default htc music player which i really dont like. How do u put it in ur pocket with coreplayer if u cant press the suspend key?
Also the volume button doesnt seem to work in suspend mode like it used to either which is really annoying when im sitting on the train as i have to take it out of pocket everytime to change the volume.
For me so far as an mp3 player its not as good as it seems to have a few little problems

I don't know the answer. I'm afraid I only lived with wm6.5 for one day before rushing back to 6.1, there were just too many minor issues for me to live with.
Can't you lock the phone using the long press function on the "End" key?

I wasn't aware the volume keys worked in suspend mode anyway, but I could be mistaken. They work in "screen off" mode (you can do that through Coreplayer's menu "Menu - Options - Blank Screen". This might be all you need to do when putting it in your pocket, because it stops random screen taps I think.

find wkTask (haven't got the link - google it)
It's a little app that places itself in the topright corner over the X (replaces the X with it's own X)
It has the option to turn of the backlight
It is also possible to make a shortcut to wkTask w. commandline parameters - so that you can make a shortcut that turns off your light.
It also recognizes vertical and horizontal swipes from the X (swipe right or swipe down from the X) - these swipes can be assigned to different actions. In your case you could set it up to turn off the backlight on a swipe

wkTask sounds a nice app. It might be good to disable HTC's own task manager if you use it to avoid too many apps running unneccessarily, you can do this in the registry.

Thanks again Pete_S . Also that program sounds very useful acebone, thanks

Make a call from a text message?

Hey guys, so I receive an SMS and it gets shown in Pocket Outlook. Now on any normal phone I simply press a button and I'm given the option to reply by text or simply call the number that the text was sent from.
Where is the option on the Hermes? I'm running Windows Mobile 6. Please don't tell me it simply isn't there?! Even a cheap £10 phone from a supermarket has this available.
I'm starting to regret getting this phone. It seems like if you actually want to do anything practical with it you have to pay for additional software, like spb GPRS monitor to make sure you don't spend too much on data traffic, or spb Mobile Shell to actually give it a usable thumb interface. I think it is nothing short of scandalous that all these things are included as standard on a basic Sony Ericsson phone. Such is life; pay loads of money, you get ripped off. Free, you get it all. I am slowly resigning myself to the fact that as a phone the Hermes / o2 XDA Trion just plain f***ing sucks. Back to my K800i I go. At least that actually functions as a proper phone without all this nonsense.
All I ever wanted to do was have a phone with wifi built in and the ability to play old dos games. Never in a million years did I think that there would be so many hoops to jump through.
And no one here ever did answer my question about running dos or giving me a list of what number all the keys were (e.g. "Button 0" = OK, "Button 1" = Start, etc.).
I really wish I'd got a Nokia N95 when I renewed my contract. I wouldn't then be stuck with this piece of [email protected]

In pocket outlook (text messages), pressing the green key while highlighting a text message will ask if you want to call the sender.
Pressing the right soft key will allow you to reply.
Regarding dos, did you check out PocketDos

Doh!! Well that could be a bit better documented. I was looking for a context or menu option, along the lines of "call this number / contact".

I mean, every key has a corresponding map number doesn't it? For example, if you go to Start > Settings > Buttons, Button 1 is the message button on the top of the Hermes, Button 4 is the Camera button, etc. If this is the case, what button numbers are, for example, the keyboard cursor keys? Or the cap / shift key?
Also, the problem with PocketDos is, as far as I'm aware, it doesn't play any audio apart from emulating the PC Speaker. And you hhave to use plug in which take up loads of memory, leaving you nothing to actually run the games.
Yeah, I can't say I've ever used pocketdos, Dos disappeared quite some time back for me. I think it's the best we've got, but check out some of the emulation sites for specifics.
The keyboard map does have specific key codes, but they are not compatible with the Settings > Personal > Buttons buttons. I think we're stuck with the 5 or so default buttons, and additionally emulated hardware buttons using apps like AE Button Plus.
However, try an app like PQz which will allow you to use many of the keys on the keyboard.
V
Hi, just out of interest do you know what the specific key codes are? It is this list which I am after and which it may be possible to create a mapping for with DOS.

How to disable Volume Buttons when not in conversation

Hi Guys,
I'm new on the WM world (always have had symbian devices...)
But I think the HD is brilliant and also WM with all the neeed tweaks is great...now I've got a problem with the volume buttons....I always press them accidentaly when putting the phone in the pouch with the conseguence that I increase or decrease the volume when it is not needed....
I see those buttons usefull only in conversation....
so here the question..is there a way (a registry value to set?) to disable those buttons when you are not in conversation or not listening to audio/video files???
Thanks!

You could take a look at a program called "AE Button Plus". This allows you to override the original function of many/all buttons on WinMobile phones (including the volume control). It will even let you have the volume buttons revert to their original function when there is a call, or when you are in 'phone' mode.
It has a 14 day evalution (do a search for AE Button Plus to find the website).
The slight downside is that the instructions are fairly minimal, so you'll probably need to play around a bit to figure out how it all works (or I guess you could ask here!).

..........
I've accidentally fixed this for free in the last couple of days. It was doing it on Saturday and all I've installed since then are No Curtains, Transparent Slider, a coloured icon topbar and coloured TF3D icons. I've since removed the TF3D icons and it still only adjusts the volume when the phone is unlocked.
I'm just having a play around now adding and removing to see if I can figure out which one fixed it but my guess is the topbar because it replaces HTCVolumeControl.dll
Edit
Okay, the HTCVolumeControl.dll from the coloured icon bar is version 1.0.1817.2129 modified 27/10/08. The version in ROM is 1.6.1819.2731 dated 18/9/08.
Edit 2
Sure enough after deleting the HTCVolumeControl.dll and rebooting with the ROM version it goes back to being able to adjust the volume with the keys locked.
Edit 3
Here's the icon bar:-

}
I'm afraid the Start logo wasn't to my liking so I changed it back to the plain one :-
Attached is the cab for the coloured icon bar, my slightly modified version of the modified shellres.192.dll.0409.mui with standard start logo and a version of HTCVolumeControl.dll I've extracted from the cab file and changed back to standard speaker icons (untested but should be ok) for if anyone wants to try it who's using the standard icons. You'll also need sdkcert.cab installed before trying these.
On mine it locks the volume keys when the screen has timed out or when the keys are locked.
Thanks to whoever inadvertantly fixed the problem with the iconbar (for me at least) (Omniwolf possibly?)
Thanks bro!
Not too sure ?
Hi
I'm not sure wgher to put the last two zip files on my HD
Please could you advise as I too find the volume buttons frustrating !
Many thanks
Just copy them to the Windows directory on the phone. You'll need to use something like Total Commander or Resco Explorer though as the files that they replace are ROM files. If you just want the volume fix without the iconbar though just try the HTCVolumeControl file on it's own. The other zip is if anyone want's the coloured iconbar but with the standard Windows logo on the Start button.

Did it work for you?
LOL, actually, only sorta. I installed sdkcert.cab and Colored Top Bar WWE ST.cab , then copied the file from shellres.192.dll.0409.zip to /windows/. The only thing that changed is now I have a colored satellite dish on the signal icon, everythign else is the same.
Hmmm.... I wonder if it could be because of the version of ROM you have? Mines the WWE ROM and I seem to remember reading that the 0409 bit of the filename refers to the version of ROM and if none exists then the shellres.dll file will be used instead. Not sure where I read that though and may be wrong. Do the volume keys remain locked when the keypad is locked or is that just a fluke on mine?
I installed both cabs to the SD card. Could that be the problem?
Could be. I installed to the phone itself as the files it overwrites are in the Windows directory on the device.
It worked for me!
thanks
clear instructions - to disable volume buttons
can you please give clear instructions, to disable the volume buttons only....
nowt else but vol buttons plz.... they are doing my head in....
and what software and when....
cheers
For just the volume buttons (keeping all standard icons at the top)
1) Copy sdkcert.cab to your phone or storage card and run it installing to the device when it asks if you want to install to Device or Storage Card.
2) Then using either Total Commander or Resco Explorer (there's a trial version available) copy the HTCVolumeControl.dll file that's in HTCVolumeControl.zip to the Windows directory of the phone itself replacing the one that's already there.
3) Reboot.
4) Lock keys and test volume buttons.
5) Post back here to let me know if it works (I've not tested the HTCVolumeControl file on it's own but it should work as all I've done is taken the one I'm using and put the ordinary icons back in and re-signed it).
volume keys now deactivated - when device locked!
success!!!!!!
Excellent.
Ok, I did the above, and it worked, but my start icon looks terrible. How can I have just the old start menu icon back?
Download shellres.192.dll.0409.zip and copy the file that's in it (shellres.192.dll.0409.mui) to the Windows directory of the device (again, you may need to use Total Commander or Rescoexplorer)

I was really missing the Action screen from TyTN II.
The only problem I noticed was the camera app will not start in this menu.
Also BT is started as "visible" - good if you want to receive something quickly from an unpaired phone, but not good if you want to start it for longer time such as using BT HF and be visible for all.
Pretty good. I like it, but i can't find any options....I can't find the folder it was installed to either lol.
Is there eny way to use another button for this?
Tks
ok some answers here.
its installed in windows dir because some files require that.
you can change the application launched in regestry, will post reg file later, as im typing on my x1 at the moment.
i will look into bluetooth, if there is some commandline i can use with the bt app, otherwise you can point the regfile to start the application caalled btswitcher.cab (search for it) in that you can choose not visable.
you can make a shortcut to action screen, place it in program, and use ae button plus to allocate another button to it.
regarding the camera its made for my swe rom, so you must change it in the reg file.
you will find all the button in regestry here
\\\registry\HKLM\Software\HTC\Biotouch\ActionScreen\
The app works flawlessly thank you. I got 2 questions:
1 - Can i change the time-out time. Can it stay longer after i press the button.
2 - Can i change the buttons. Assigning programs to them, for example?

[REQ] ReMapping the hands-free button

Hy everyone!
Just wondering if there is any possible way to remapp the hands-free button on the original Diamond hands-free.
As I never use voice command, I would like to perform other tasks using that button such as skipping tracks in media player.
There was another thread opened in "General discussion > Development and Hacking"
in 2006 but nobody responded and I dared to resurrect it hopeing someone will care to write the code.
So....we'll play the waiting game now )
Have a look here. This works for the Blackstone. It might work on the Diamond.

Please let me know if it does or doesn't.
Thanks.

Hi.Thanks for the reply.
But as I was reading the thread you pointed me I realised that the app just allows you to assign another app to the hands-free button. This is preaty cool, only problem is that I'm intending to use my hands-free to control the media-player (not just to launch it !).
So I guess this app is not suitable for this task.
Thanks anyway!
Sure you could, if not now, then later after I write the functionality.
But how are you going to control it with one button? What should that one button do that will enable any useful degree of control?
I think the only useful option is for instance, press and hold = advance to next track, and press and release = pause/play.
But 1 button doesn't leave many options! If anyone has a cheap E100 wired stereo headset they don't need, let me know please. I'd love to hack it up a bit.
V
(PS I think PHM Keyboard Tools will allow you to advance tracks and Pause/Play in Windows Media Player. This might help if you want to test the above hypothesis).

I'll try your app to see if it works on Diamond and post here the results. Afterwards maybe you can add the mentioned funcionality.
Thanks a lot!
@marginean.m - let me know if this works on the diamond.
I've just written a new app, VJWMPlayerControl, to control Windows Media Player. It'll start up WMP and start it playing music if it's not already running. [It seems the old PHM Key Tools I referred to don't work any more]
Once running, you can control all of the playback features, so I've currently got it running so I can skip tracks with Press and Hold on the headset, and Play/Pause with a double click of the headset.
This is on the Touch HD, not sure about the Diamond.
If VJPoof works for the Diamond, I'll release this app. It's quite useful, it allows you to start and control WMP just from the wired headset.

Hi vijay555.
Just installed the VJWMPlayerControl but doesn't do nothing.
As I understood some command line modifications need to be made before it works. But I didn't find on your website any info about this specific app.
Maybe you can point me in the right direction...
thanks again for your help and patience
LATER EDIT
ok...maybe I got the main ideea...need to use the VjPoOff to remapp ...
anyways,I feel like I should have said this from the begining, but I whant to use the TouchFLO MediaPlayer....
Would this be impossible? If not, I really need some instructions
Have you installed the VJWMPlayerControl cab?
If so, it should install a couple of example shortcuts in your program menu.
These show you how to use command lines.
Here is some info on my website on creating shortcuts.
http://www.vijay555.com/?Help:Command_Lines
Now as I have quite clearly indicated, VJWMPlayerControl is for controlling WMP. It can do this from shortcuts in your program files, today launchers etc. On its own it won't do anything with the handsfree.
However, use VJPoOf to then make a custom shortcut to the playpause function and next function and remap it to the headset.
Follow the info in the VJPoOf thread to find out how to do this for any app, and then specifically for VJWMPlayerControl. Come back if you need more help.

Hi Vijay.
Just tryed the vjwmplayercontrol on Diamond and it works like a charm. It's a quite usefull app. Thanks!
But when you get some spare time maybe you can figure out a way of controling the TF3D Media Player.
Hope to hear from you soon.
I'm having some trouble getting this to work.
I Installed VJWMPlayerControl, made a shortcut and put "next" in the shortcut tab. But when I open WM and press the headsetbutton, my diamond still wants to call somebody or record a voicememo.
I tried to use JZ settings. There I went to advanced button mapping, open control panel >settings >buttons. There I changed Button 1(hold) to Next track. But it still doesn't work!
I really have no clue how to get this working and I'd really like it because it's annoying to get your phone out everytime you want to change the track. Can somebody tell me how you do this exactly?
Thanks
Nobody?
@TruckerJoe:
if you're posting about VJWMPlayerControl, you might want to post in that thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3303683#post3303683
I have pointed out that VJWMPlayerControl merely lets you control WM Player.
To actually change the function of the wired headset buttons, you need to replace the apps that are launched when you press the headset button (redial.exe etc).
For that, you need to use VJPoOf (or do it manually).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=476412
So I suggest go and read my VJPoOf thread, and either install that or make the replacement apps to replace the press and hold or double tap on the wired headset.
Once you're familiar with that, make those apps point at VJWMPlayerControl shortcuts.
VJPoOf is, IMHO, a neat way to achieve this.

@moneytoo - I hadn't seen that app. Wish I had! However mine controls a couple more functions and also supports auto starting WMP, playing from your library, without WMP being started, which really helps with the hands free. With VJPoOf, the phone doesn't even have to be on. Just press n hold the headset button, even when off, to start your music.

would be great if someone would develop this to work with COREPLAYER

Yeah, thank you very much.
I really missed a working actionscreen on the TP2.
Due to the new Bluetooth driver the one for the Xperia wasn't working anymore.
You made me as happy as with your ROMs back then
sorry, but can you tell me what is it and what does it do?
(sorry for my english)
Have a look at the screenshot. It's an action screen that allows you to select certain actions like new SMS, appointment, task etc.
Works nice! Good to see my BT is working with this version.
Gonna make some changes myself:
- Left softkey to ActionScreen
- No conformation for soft reset
Attached the left softkey for who's interested.
Works fine!
Especially the one-click Wifi switch is very clever.
The only thing is the problem of hitting the powerbutton while typing in landscape mode.
It will launch this app while you're chatting, very annoying.

No it won't, unless you hold the power button in for 3 seconds.

Hello,
This tips is good if you do not use the TF3D ... otherwise it is replaced by the one from the TF3D ...
Do you know where to modify it in the TF3D ?
Thanks.
Personally I am trying to avoid pushing any buttons, I'd rather have an option on the screen like a shortcut in the Start Menu or something.
Would that be possible?
Hello,
In the start menu, it is a shortcut. Not so difficult. After installing the cab above, you will go to "\Windows" folder and you search for "HTCActionScreen.exe" then you make a copy and after you go to the "Start Menu" folder and "Progams" folder and you make a "Paste shortcut".
And this is done.

I think that's the point, if he's anything like me, everytime I type in landscape mode, I accidentally end up holding the power button for 3 seconds with the side of my finger, I'm forever turning of the phone .
Nice app though, just going to put it on.
For those that don't want to confirm the Soft Reset action:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Biotouch\ActionScreen\APP_10]
"Param"="/s"
Attatched the REG file for those that want to import the file to the registry.
Don't forget to make a soft reset afterwards
This is awesome! I would love to have this app. Is there any way to make the icons a bit more colorful? Thanks so much!
hi! congratulations GREAT app.
is there anyway to change the icon (add + contacts) to one (close screen) without suspend the device. it is very useful to who wants to ear music from the speaker phone. cause when you turn of the device the music stops.
tnx in advance
Excellent! Thanks for thinking about us poor TP2 users!
Very interesting appl.
Does someone test it with touch pro stock rom ?(I have the italian one).
Thanks
Smaberg rocks
Welcome to TP2...I have been an avid follower of yours on Xperia forum...great to see you got a TP2.
Look forward to your inputs in making our TP2 way better than the great device it already is!!!
Hmm after installing i tried the application but it doet not work properly.
When i push the I/O button of my TP2 the screen becomes totally black... but when i touch a button (that i dont see) the rolloverbutton appears in green.
What can i do to make it work normally?
