Hi
I am thinking on buy the HTC with some of this carriers, But I don't know if in UK, the carriers change anything of this phones.
For example, in Spain, if you buy something they sell the device with a modified rom for their own system, and physical differences from the retail devices (logos and back of the phone).
Any of this carriers have the HD2 exactly as is in retail?
regards
This is very important to me aswell. I have t mobiles version of the touch pro at the moment, and i hate what they do to phones to make them their own.
Hopefully they will leave the HD2 alone.
i cant give you a definate answer but it was my understanding that HTC are fed up with making unique phones for different carriers so are trying to get away from doing it.
if you bought from orange i would still expect their little logo etched into the phone somewhere.
as for the rom, it is no problem to flash your phone with a custom or standard rom to get rid of all of the operator rubbish they shove in there

Good evening to all. has been a while I'm thinking of buying a Dream, and I'm looking at the prices in stores. I buy it again seems a bit expensive, so I turned to ebay and I saw that second-hand cost rather less. Now I'm wondering though: if I buy it outside of my country, like in America or in Germany (for example) can still use it in my country? or just not working. I ask this because I am about to go on holiday in America and I do not know whether to buy or not ...... You know where this goes from country to country?
be careful on eBay, lots of look alike phones are appearing! Make 100% certain it is truly a HTC phone!
No, that's ok it is that you resemble is fine, but for sure I care what you purchase, I do not want to buy it is a clone. However, then the Dream are all equal?
Ebay is ebay. People are trying to get the most money for their item. Some people will start lower prices than other. Some people are luckier and have more people interested and bidding higher. Some items are in better physical condition.
As others have said, don't accidentally buy a clone. They are VERY sneaky. You need to watch out for all the details and features and make sure nothing is missing.
But I am sure however that a German or American Dream can go well in my country?
the dream is a world phone, so it's going to work anywhere (gprs data, hsdpa data is only the frequency that T-Mo us runs, i think)
There are no differences between dream devices, other than the motherboard they come equiped with, and this can be the difference between been able to root and getting a brick if you try, but, again, afaik, they all come with the puny 192 mb ram and 256 mb nand flash.
I'm not sure which you want but they are NOT the same, the rogers dream will work on att 3g the tmo g1 is tmo 3g only, make sure the frequencies on the phone match your carriers...
All dreams should work, its a matter of how quickly (ie 3g or not)

Thanks for answers. If I had to take it, take the Dream brand T-Mobile or AT&T, or directy unlocked

There is no ATT branded device.
ALL dream *except* rogers will work 3G *everywhere except* ATT/Rogers. ATT/Rogers are oddball carriers with frequencies that don't match anywhere else.
Note that asides from the frequencies, there are devices with different KEYBOARD LAYOUTS. Most will have QWERTY layout (i.e. from english-speaking places), there are also QWERTZ layout (German), and I don't know what layout is used from French-speaking places (AZERTY?).
if you live in europe it would almost make more sense to buy a tmobile g1
the tmobile version has both wcdma 1700 and 2100 bands....and 2100 should work where you are...so you won't lose 3g in the deal like you would with the rogers dream

A "tmobile g1" *** IS A DREAM ***, so your statement reads as "it would almost make more sense to buy a dream [than a dream]", which has absolutely no meaning.
And quit calling it a "tmobile g1"... tmobile is NOT the manufacturer, and "g1" is NOT the model name -- "tmobile g1" is just tmobile's way of pretending that they actually had something to do with something and tricking people into contracts and limitations on features.
As someone who is becoming rather aggravated about the continuing lack of ETA for the Tilt 2 I was wondering if a Rogers version of the Dream would be a good alternative for me?
Specifically I am looking for a smartphone with a bigger screen than my 8525, a physical keyboard, wifi, the ability to surf the web and use Logmein to access PC's, and the ability to read various ebooks (txt's, doc's, rtf's, lit's, pdf's, etc). I would also like to be able to listen to mp3's on headphones and play some bejewelled/popit style games however these are less important. I am also restricted to the AT&T network as my cellphone is on my company's AT&T plan (which is why I was thinking that the Rogers version of the Dream would be better than the other versions as from what I understand it should allow it to be compatible with the 850/1900 band?)
Anyways, I was wondering if the Rogers version of the Dream would meet my requirements or if there are any other Android phones that might do so? Thanks in advance for any information and advice and sorry if I'm not asking this in the correct place.
Yes.

Hi, I'm interested in getting one of thes HD2 phones but unsure of what is the best way to go about it
Given I'm from Australia and currently on the optus/virgin network, which version should I get?
Would i miss much for having a 850mhz phone over 900mhz or its not really a concern when 2100mhz covers it all?
Can I totally remove everything telstra so it is like any other generic unbranded phone imports bar the band difference?
As far as unlocking and warranty concern which is a better options?
Afaik, telstra version is selling outright for around $829 which is fairly actractive and you get a 16GB + local charger/warranty(2 years?). While non telstra imports are going for $700-900 (whose legiticy is unconfirm) for just the phone and 1yr warranty
Buying outright means you are entitiled for unlocking right?
I'm in Melbourne and I'd prefer to be able to pick it up from a brick store like Organizer World over a e-tailer
Hi all,
I've successfully flashed my genuine T-Mobile HTC SP5m in the past and now I'm about to buy this "china made" version of the HTC Touch and I'd like to know if I'll be able of flashing this "fake" HTC Touch to the most recent ROM available, e.g. WM6.5 instead of the pre-loaded WM6.1?
Here's the "fake" HTC Touch I'm about to buy: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.21069
In the Discussions section of the DX website, a user is asking if this phone is ROM/firmware upgradeable and here's the answer provided, is it true??
Subject: ROM/firmware upgradeable?

Without a new ROM image from the manufacturer - forget it.
Simonetti2010 Tuesday, July 20, 2010 8:58 AM
You might want to try http://forum.xda-developers.com/
The guys at XDA Developers have up-to-date ROMs for almost every WM phones released.
CosmoVitelli Tuesday, July 20, 2010 1:26 PM
Wrong. XDA Dev is focussed on genuine HTC phones, and trying to install a HTC ROM will make any of the chinese copies become a useless brick.

CosmoVitelli is right. I would never by a clone, nor try flashing one. Just spend the extra to buy a ligit phone and have the ability to use XDA!
Thanks for your reply. That's what I finally did, I bought an official HTC XV6900 at half the DX price off eBay, it's new Verizon phone in an opened box. Can't wait to receive it.
I'll have to flash it cause my provider here in Quebec is Fido and not Verizon.
Which firmware with WM6.5 would you guys suggest me?
Thanks all,
highmighty
Thats a vogue, so CDMA, you'll need to head there. They do have FroYo android roms running on it. 6.5 - not sure what roms exist for it.
Are you sure that phone will work for you. It is CDMA, from what I understand, Fido (Rogers) are GSM? I only ask as the DX link was a GSM phone.
Damnit... true, Verizon uses CDMA and my Fido carrier is using GSM, what's next? Reselling the phone as soon as I receive it? I've read somewhere that it is possible to use a CDMA phone on a GSM network, that there are some agreements made between the 2 now, that it will connect to at least the EDGE network but not 3G, etc? Is that true, are you aware of such a thing?
Thank you for your time,
highmighty
I'm not aware of such a thing, we don't seem to have any CDMA here in england, everything is Sim Card GSM Based.
In my honest opinion though, I don't think it will even connect to the GPRS network as there would be nothing telling it teh details (your sim card is not present)
EOF then I guess
Anyone interested by a new HTC CDMA Touch XV6900 currently locked to Verizon??
I'd recommend going to the xda marketplace section in general, you make have some luck there
Could always try to sweet talk the seller into taking a return?
Sorry that I ruined your hopes
Currently on orange with a Hero- if I buy a sim-free unlocked Desire Z, will that work with my sim card? I'm planning to switch to 3 when my contract is up as well.
I hear a lot about phones being restricted to EDGE when used on an incompatible network, and hoped someone could fill me in.
I'd be interested to know too, ready for when my new Desire-Z arrives. Fingers crossed for next week, but not holding my breath just yet.
I'm on T-Mobile UK, so any specific settings that I'll need to make to get myself up and running as quickly as possible would be appreciated.
Andre
I've never heard of this being an issue here in the UK about certain carriers only getting Edge on their phones. This is more the case over in the states where the different carrier use different frequencies.
The carriers here all use the same so an unlocked and unbranded phone can be used on any carrier. If anything you find maybe the speeds are a bit slow then just go on your carriers website and you can find the settings to use.
just buy it from the car one of the high street phone retailers and you will get it unlocked as all the phones there they sell are unlocked I believe
Yes. An Unlocked DesireZ will work with all valid UK Operator SIMs
Hi, what are the main differences between my branded vodafone wildfire and an unbranded one, is it just the vodafone splash screen or are there anymore. Just wanted to know because many people want to root there phones and install a new rom etc, thanks.

I don't know what the bloatware is in carrier locked phones. Since mine is not a carrier locked one.
And some carriers even disable the installation from unknown sources. Maybe just to increase the data stream through their network. My opinion was never look at the little difference in price and never go for a carrier locked one.
Thanks for reply, my friend just got a unbranded wildfire and it's nice not to have all that branded stuff, feels more like it's your phone and not the carriers.
I have a Vodafone Wildfire. To me it seems that the only branding is just the little Vodafone splash at the end of the booting process. None of the apps or menus are Vodafone branded, everything else seems to be stock HTC.
