okay, so, when i first rooted, i was on 1.5. i want to have a rooted phone that will still recieve the updates because i like the things that are put out like 1.6, but i just want to still be able to do my wifi tether. lol. and some of these builds run slowly and get slower and slower as you go.

ok. ive been away from xda for a while after i loaded jf cupcake rom on to phone.im seeing all these new roms,ion and hero. i must say i like, but wont try because im a super noob wit A2SD. so i wont try it.i unrooted back to rc29 because in the jf builds and haykuro builds i couldnt browse the web over wifi.
i unrooted using DREAIMG.nbh
connected to wifi, started browsing the web flawlessly,
OVER WIFI
now i got the update alert at 9am on 6/4/09
updated,connected over wifi, and now i cant browse.
so is this a known issue for anybody?
i need a solution. i even called my isp and everything was good to go
so for now i will unroot again and stick to rc29 until someone can confirm to me a fix.
P.S.-how many are using the hero rom and how is it? i have a spare g1 i got off of craigslist as my back up if this one breaks or bricks, i was thinking of using it to try the hero build

i dont think ive ever come across the issue of not being able to browse over wifi.
the hero rom is pretty nice. rosie(home replacement) however, can be annoying sometimes. its not stable at all. im using the rom but with ahome and ive had the best time with it... so, its nice.

Stay away from Hero if you don't wanna do apps2sd.
I won't try hero just yet, I don't know what's wrong with my pc but whenever I put my 8gig in the card reader it doeasnt read it, but it reads my 4 gig 2 gig n 1 gig perfectly. but when I want to use the 8 gig it doesn't work, so I have to wait for the girlfriend to loan me her laptop or ill just go buy a net book for cheap at walmart or something. I'm no noob at all, I just never partitioned anything ever to do A2SD so when I get a new pc or laptop ill try it if I mess up o well , but I still need an answer as to why my wifi won't work when I'm on cupcake of any sort.
Can someone give me a recomendation one which rom to download where internet sharing through usb will work.. straight away from flashing?
If there aren't any.. how about a rom version that'll have wifi tethering working straight out of the box?
I want to flash a new rom because Im using DC and I seem to be dependant on an un updated version of wifi tether and overclocking/underclocking seems buggy on this version.
I'd like to be able to use the internet through some means without tethering over heating my phone( and underclocking seems the solution) but at the same time I seem to be only able to get a maximum of 40kbps as is
So I'm in the market... I figure internet sharing through usb might be a better solution...
Any comments on how fast it works or if it heats up the phone like wifi and drains the battery faster then it charges it???
On a seperate note.. does wifi tethering mess up the initialization of the battery so that it seems like it has less life or says full when its not.. or have I just been really putting the beating on it?

You can always download a new ROM directly off your phone.. I usually do it so I don't have to transfer it. I e-mail myself the link, go to it on my phone, download, move it to root, nandroid backup, wipe, flash, tah dah.

It works...as long as my phones screen is on.. and then again it wants to go ridiculously slow at times and act worse than dialup...
I've noticed the same thing even through the tethering... is the sprint network extremely bogged down at the moment or is it just me???
Or let me guess... my bill was due yesterday and they are screwing with my data when I need the net to make the money to pay the bill
Aloysius 2.1 is my favorite, I've tried a lot of the others, it seems fastest and wifi tether works great
I flashed an Old DamageControl Rom to get a different PRI, then I flashed back to RegawMOD 2.1t which is my daily ROM, and now I don't even need wifi tethering, just connect to PC via USB, select internet sharing, and away I go! Best method for highest speeds.

For me it would work on Wifi but not 3G. In CM6 it works no matter what. I suspect they need an update. It is pretty annoying, so I am sticking with CM6 for now. I like stock and CM6, still debating which I want. I suspect when 4G hits CM6 I won't have a reason to use stock 2.2 anymore...
I am still un-rooted and on 2.1 (waiting for 4G and unrestricted HDMI in CM6). IHeartRadio worked for me once and never again - on 3G, 4G, or wifi.
I wrote to their customer support a week ago and did not even get an automated acknowledgment

Mine is working the same way. I am on Baked Snack 1.1 and Cherry Rplayer and Iheartradio will not stream while I'm on 3G. If I switch to Wifi they both work fine.
Using BackedSnack 1.2.5 I have the same issue with IHeartRadio,
works fine on Wifi, does not work over 3G.
It works fine with CM6, but as a workaround, if you turn WIFI on (even if you dont have a connection) and start streaming Iheartradio, it will continue working (does for me) even if you turn WIFI off afterwards.

I'm having a slight problem with Mattc's 1.7 Froyo + Sense update.
Ever since the update I can't get my phone to connect to the internet at all. It finds my HSDPA network and connects, on Radio 2.12.50.02_2.
I read something about PPP versus RMNET, but I don't know enough about that to know if I have the wrong one. I'm very wary of bricking out my phone (I'm past the grace period for returns) so I thought I'd ask first.
I know your new, but youll want to post android questions in the android forum. As far as your data goes, try the other version. your not going to brick your phone flashing android roms from the sd card. So it deffinetly will not hurt to try. check your apn and see if thats set up right, also sometimes a simple reboot does a lot.

Also, sometimes even when it shows that I am connected, the internet based software such as skype will not work (making phone call without hearing any voice).
Is there a software/app that can help? Or maybe I should root my phone for a better version of operating system?
On the stock ROM and all Sense ROMs, there is an option under WiFi Settings -> Advanced -> Best WiFi Performance. Try selecting that and see if it makes a difference.

WOO! lol i found someone in the same boat as me...I go college as well and my ipad connects fine, but my laptop and phone (for some weird reason do not). Ive tried a whole variety of differernt rom and kernel combinations including stock, but nothing would work. I really really really wanted to stay stock on my phone because I like it so much, but it just wouldnt work. Then I tried the evil 4g HD rom with fauxs sense smartass kernel and suddenly wifi was working amazing! It connected as soon as I clicked turn on wifi and stayed connected throughout the day even though I was walking around campus. Plus the rom has sense so its not straying too far from stock! I dont know what the reason is, but you should give it a go and see if it works for you!
I finally determine to try your method. I can't find evil 4G HD rom. Did you mean Evo?
