Nexus one via USB Car Headunit

Hello people!
My headunit was recently purchased (before I bought the Nexus One) for my iPhone 3G-S 32gig...
The iPhone unfortunately went for a swim...so I decided to try out the Nexus one for the **** of it.
Now, before, when I had the iPhone... the headunit played all audio, music, navigation via the USB port flawlessly... track information was pushed to the headunit and everything
With the N1 however, I can only use it via USB in "mount" mode... only able to read files directly, no audio streams!
While this wouldn't normally be a problem... the folders are SO disorganized, and my unit will look at ALL .mp3 files on the card... and that can be troublesome with the various ringtones and notification sounds that I have...
So I have resorted to bluetooth
This was not the intention with this headunit however...and I am searching amongst the forums for a "USB Streaming" solution that works LIKE the iPhone
Judging by the Desktop Dock by Google, the audio can indeed be streamed via USB (I am aware the dock can also communicate via Bluetooth...but I'm pretty sure the video demonstration I saw displayed the dock working via USB and via Bluetooth)
Any solutions??
I haven't rooted my phone yet, but will if I need to!
As a mobile electronics installer, i can tell you your most likely out of luck.
What head unit do you have? model number and brand.
the reason it works for iphone is many common electronics come with a stamp that says made for iphone... as ipods are synonymous with mp3's these days, and the units are programmed to read an ipod's files like an ipod does.
perhaps with androids growth, some manufacturers will begin offering made for android stuff. its possible.
I know I'll get flamed for this, lol, but I use my n1 while driving and hate cords in my way, so i just use the bluetooth for phone calls and I keep an Ipod Touch in my glove box hooked up to my head unit, or take the SD Card out of my phone and put it into my headunit.
Most of the USB setups were made with Apple in mind. That's just the way it is.
Be glad you can use Bluetooth.
Currently the only way to do it, is via mounting. Otherwise the Head unit has no way of knowing what's on the SD card. Blame Apple for being proprietary @$$hats imho.
As for me, I use BT Audio every, single day with my N1. (I listen to approx 2 hours of audiobooks daily + Navigation as needed, and sometimes Pandora. It works perfect)
it is a kenwood excelon x993
"This CD receiver is not only iPhone and iPod ready, it also includes a unique EQ feature that extracts the best possible sound from the iPod, iTouch or iPhone."
- from a review of your head unit.
maybe soon we'll see one that says "google ready."

Head Unit Security

I'm about to pull the trigger and get one of these head units for a car I haven't purchased yet! Can anyone comment on the security of them? I've heard of some security issues for inexpensive chinese android devices recently.
Thanks!

Do you mean security as in software hacking or security as in people smashing windows and stealing devices?
LOL.
Security ? Forget about it... Same for any Android device and moreso for Chinese, if for no other reason than security costs money and China sells cheap cheap.
What worries you ?
Wife/GF finding out where you've been ?
Google tracking you ?
NSA,... ?

You're not going to be storing any personal info in your car headunit anyway, probably just music and a nav app. Nothing to worry about.

The thing is, I get almost all of my music through Amazon Prime, so I'll have that account information linked to the head unit.

You could always connect your phone to the headunit via bluetooth and run the Amazon Prime Music app on your phone.
I do that sometimes with I heart radio to view the song info on the phone screen and use waze on the headunit screen.

but that's the whole purpose of putting a mobile OS into the dash, so I don't have to use my phone.
My phone and hu go hand in hand. I connect my phone & hu with bluetooth to get calls and messages on my hu. I use the phone's 4G LTE as a hotspot to provide wifi to the hu.

of course, but using apps on my phone defeats the purpose of having an android head unit. Otherwise, I would just keep using my phone mounted to my dash.

If you're really worried i would download something like avast mobile security, and maybe setup 2fa on your accounts. I think it highly unlikely that these headunits come preinstalled with keyloggers or something. These companies may not be known for their QA, but that doesn't mean they are outright criminals after your data.
Thinking about the initial poster's question in the context of physically stealing the headunit. I'm using traccar, but that only helps me find the device once it's online again. I can remote wipe it with google device manger, but what are others using for mitigation in the time between someone stealing the headunit & the owner finding out? The other scenario is car valets - how could I keep them from accessing all my data? Any thoughts?
Download an app like Avast Mobile Security to encrypt and protect
your data. That and I wouldn't recommend using your HU as a repository for sensitive data. But that's just me.
Of course, if someone stole your HU they would probably just do a factory reset and all your data would be lost.
The data I'm worried about is related to the fact that I'm logged into google on my headunit & real damage could be done from that alone. Thanks for the suggestion. I've found a couple of apps that'll help me lock it down right.

This concerns me too. I'm about to install an Android head unit in my car it will be connected to my Google account so that I can stream music from Google Play. Am I correct that there is no lock screen for these units?
@tylast: what apps did you find that might be helpful?
I have the same concerns. I would like some sort of password protection at boot. I hear it is possible by installing Tasker and Secure Settings.
As a workaround, I've fitted a hidden power switch in my car that cuts the ACC power to the HU.
I settled on AppLock 2.
Is there really no way to lock these devices at boot?

Launcher

Sorry if this has been covered, I'm considering a different launcher and was wondering what is the better ones, preferably free, car is a ford fiesta 2009

Check out FCC Launcher, it's not free, but it is terrific value for money. I've tried a few and imho FCC is the best.

I'm not sure to be honest, as I don't play music from my phone. I have all of my music stored on the head unit, and I use PowerAmp to play it, works flawlessly with FCC.

Well, if your head unit has an SD card slot or USB port available (and most do), then the easiest way is to copy your music onto an SDcard or USB Flash drive, insert that into your head unit, and copy it onto the head unit. But I do it a little differently. I have a folder on my desktop computer at home (which is on 24/7) which contains the music I want on my head unit. As I get bored with music I delete it from this directory, and as I find new music, I copy it into the directory. On the head unit, I have an app installed called FolderSync which runs every time the head unit is turned on. When I start my car, I usually let it idle for a minute or two before I drive off (it's cantankerous when it's cold). My head unit connects to my home wifi, and syncs the music directory on the head unit with the directory on my desktop. Then when I drive off, and the head unit gets out of range of my home wifi, it switches over to the wifi hotspot on my phone for access to google maps etc.

[Android Head Unit] [CarPlay] [Chinese] [8227L]

hello guys.
I've ordered a long time ago this android head unit: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/329..._list.0.0.2bc4586aWLTEcq&gatewayAdapt=glo2isr
I have the 2GB + 32GB.
of course, the fake 8.1, and all that crap.
anyway, I've already installed some other firmwares over time .
for now. I have some firmware i've installed from here, 10 android version without HIFI.
my main question is: can I make this device support apple car play? in any way? that works great (really not fine but great, without any lags ).
after many times that I used apple car play in other cars, I just feel that is a very big gadget that I must have!
I've tried to download some "Car play" apps online, but my iphone don't recognize anything..
if someone have some firmware / update or something that works with it ,with any other cool stuffs like DSP/split screen, that will be amazing!
thank you very much!!

Hi, you have easyconnect app from google store which mirrors screen, for car play app you can install it onto head unit, but in order to work must activate siri on your mobile phone in order to work with head unit or connect via USB cable to head unit.

Hey, thanks for the respond.
I’ve tried the mirror link app but it’s a little bit laggy and not maximize the options for you and not a very good UI.
siri is always work on my iphone but I couldn’t make the car play to work.

Then it's some stupidity making problems, like Google play has its own thrid party apps not installing if you don't allow them to. For iphone I don't know, it is something , something is preventing in Store to deny access or installment.

Using old one Ownice 8227L unit with Android 6.0. Put Carlinkit usb adapter like this https://a.aliexpress.com/_vsVSiR from aliexpress and it works as Wireless CarPlay with no hassle. A lot better than wired CarPlay android 10 on my other car.

exactly. makes any android support wireless/wired Carplay -depending on model of Carlinkit. Well al least androids older than 6.0. for older you should ask Carlinkit support. Product is reliable and that's why not too cheap. mine was bit less than 60$ for wireless CarPlay

NTSG is a video playback standard and I don't understand how that's related to radio and audio playback of 3rd party apps you installed.
AUX is an input for external audio devices which doesn't provide a digital output. You can use it to connect your Walkman from the 80s or even a record player to the head unit.
The radio app is just an UI for the integrated radio chip. So the Android OS is just involved as remote control of the on-board radio.
If you use a 3rd party app like Spotify, YouTube or Poweramp audio processing happens on Android. Usually this apps are using the media channel as output.
First thing you can check is the volume of the media channel. You can find it in the Android settings.
Additonally you can test TTS output. This is another channel and you can use the test button of Google Text to Speech engine. You can find it by using the search function of Android settings. I think it's in the "Language and input" submenu.

Still don't know what's wrong with my first answer. There are still people like to enjoy their MCs in car and because modern car head units aren't able to play MCs they are using a Walkman on the AUX input.
I'm really shocked from your answer.
New Telematics Generation is just the name of Mercedes head units and there is no need to know the OEM unit (in detail) to find a solution.
If It helps, when i phone someone, i hear the sound in the car, but when i receive a call, i didnt hear anything. I think IS some configuration, but i cant find the solution

So, i didnt understand u, sorry again, i cant say It more times
Any idea?
When the sound comes from BT of the car, i can hear It in the car speakers, but when the sound comes from BT of the own device, i didnt hear anything. I cant hear the device from the car speakers. And i dont know if this is normal. No sounds in any app. Its like a modern screen but the same as the old one of M Benz.
Interesting video because some users commented that they need to select a specific sound source.
Thank you!!!
