Hi, i am a newbee. But i have my usa Mda working great with a Molski 2.26 Rom at 273, he is the man. So now i am looking for the best service for an unlocked phone. I am looking to use it for slingmobile, and skype. Right now i am using a prepaid cingular chip. I believe some talked about free internet with a t-mobile prepaid chip. So i am trying to see what you would recommend. Even if i had to subscribe to a cheap paid phone service to get a cheap package deal. Unlimited internet and phone combo, for a low price or free. Come on hacks, help. Please.
Eh? Wifi? Just use a free wifi locator (google for it) and try to find an open net.
If you can't, then you're talking about using cheaper data?
Where are you based, ie country, network, what kinda data usage etc.
Best bet is finding open networks though...

Location: Long island, New york. As far as how much data, Unlimited for either skype, or Slingmobile.
Hi there,
I am about get a sim free Touch TD and was wondering which UK providers offers the best internet package? T-Mobile, Vodafone, Orange or else?
I have looking for a package with no specific restriction (e.g. msn etc..)
Thanks
Antonio
1: T-Mobile Web'n'Walk (Pro) that should be good enough for you.
2GIG monthely Cap
2: Three Uk X-Series Silver isn't that bad either. Thats what am using.
1GIG monthely Cap
With both plans you can use IM.
i was just wondering if anyone had one...im thinking about getting one (i have ATT) and i know that it won't have 3g network....is it a huge difference or if it would be super slow
depends how much you use the internet... I have a blackberry 8900 and I hate using it for anything internet related because of the lack of 3g. which thats something to remember its not just websites, gps because its gotta load maps and apps that report back stuff like that
id suggest you just kill the 3g on your phone and use only the regular connection for a bit, if it doesn't bother you than your good
as pack said, my phone is not unlocked but I rarely use the 3G ... I bought it when I was on leave to NYC ... I didn't even thought about turning the 3G on, EDGE works fine for me, and I only check websites when I got Wi-Fi nearby ... and I am okay with the slow responses from FB n MySpace apps (once again, personal preference).
Look into getting a Rogers branded HTC Magic from Canada. They use the same 3G as AT&T, UMTS 850/1900. It should get 3G in the US. It also has 288MB of ram, the Mytouch only has 192MB of ram.
I'm looking into getting the galaxy tab but I will not pay for the data plan since I own an evo and can just tether it and only use wifi, but my question is, can I download an app that stores map data on the sd card and use only the gps so I don't need to pay for a data plan? Or would it even be plausible?

With wifi, you are able to download android apps.
I don't think you need a data plan or need to download any maps for navigation. On my galaxy tab I have mapmyindia navigator. On my Samsung omnia (wm) I have route 66, none of them ever use data. Only Google navigation uses data.

I am using Route 66, Sygic Mobile Maps and NDrive, all with preloaded maps on my Galaxy Tab in Hong Kong. All can run without data plan. The map data is stored on the SD card. However access to data will allow for faster searching of POI and some of the map applications will give you instant traffic updates or speed camera updates that way. So in short, yes it is possible.
I'm using CoPilot on my tab and it works great. No data plan.

It works well for me with the GPS fix, when I go into the city it knows wats going on and is faster than my navman, I still prefer the look of Google maps, but its too jerky.
Try it out, it was free in Samsung apps, it was called Samsung navigation or somthing

I'm pretty sure Navigon is only free for Australia and New Zealand, but you can buy it for other areas. The free version will come up on the Market if you use 'Market Enabler' and code in Telstra AU. Be patient as you may have to wait awhile for it to show up on the Market.
About to head to Europe with our Xoom's. In case we need to use them when wifi isn't available (like for google maps), what do we need to do to use 3g internationally (knowing that we will pay through the nose)? Thanks.
eric
Call and activate intl. data plan. But it is cdma only. So you might be SOL. Do you have a worl phone you can use to teather it to.
Just remembered the Xoom is CDMA only - duh! Never mind...
eric
I believe xoom has 3g gsm version, not only cdma version.

as i discovered the hard way, depending what country you come from, mobile phones can easily roam, but data is a killer, for us aussies anywhere else in the world incurs a 15 aussie dollar per meg data charge, so best way to go is, find a free wifi spot
You can download sections of google maps for offline use you know.
