How can this be done?
Hi, here are the steps I followed yesterday :
Download the ROM on HTC's support web site
run the EXE and clic "next" to extract the files on the temporary folder
type %temp% in your explorer
sort folders by date and open the most recent one
copy the .nbh file on a fresh FAT23 formated SDcard -> FAT32 ONLY
rename the file MAPLIMG.nbh
power up your phone in bootloader mode (power + volume down)
follow instructions on the screen
when complete, remove the battery a few seconds and replace it
power on your phone and let WM configure itself
enjoy
Some of the steps can take some time and let you think about an error or a freeze, don't panic, and let the process continue.

If you are one of those Qtek users who never settle for what they have and you want to experiment with cooking some new ROMs made to your individual needs, here's how you can do it.
- First, you need to always download the ROM in an EXE format. You then right click on the downloaded file and you choose to extract files in a specified folder
- Second, you will need to install XDAtools on you PC. After you've done so, run the application.
- A window with a 'source' field' and a 'destination' field will appear. In the 'source' field hit the browser button and pick up the nbf file you had previously extracted from the EXE ROM file. The file is named NK.NBF.
- Click on 'copy' and wait till is finished. You won't be able to verify that the file has been written on your card as the card is not readable.
- Slide the card in the Qtek and press the power button whilst simultaneously you do a soft reset.
- Let the files copy and do NOTHING untill the process is completed.
- Do a battery reset and wait for 60secs before you switch it on again.
Note1: Make sure you don't run out of power. Your battery must be fully charged.
Note2: If you're cooking your ROM in Lumpi Stefan's kichen have in mind that the ROM version 4.01.00 is a T-Mobile edition and it'll cause you various problems with ActiveSync. For a start you won't be able to upgrade to another ROM through your PC. You'll have to do it through an SD. Also the ROM edition 4.00.21 is in German.
Good Luck!
I intalled some new rom tonight. When I tryed to change the rom again using a kitchen with a EXE file I get error messages. The first error comes from the black DOS looking window that says
ERROR: GetDeviceData - An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. error getting devicedata
After that prgramme a v1.09 comes up say to hit next. Once I go through the couple if next buttons I get a second error.
ERROR 011: EXECUTE REMOTE COMMUNICATION PROGRAM ERROR
Cannot execute the remote communication program. Please make sure that the USB/Serial Cableis properly connected.
The cable is connected and activesync works normally. Please help.
Thanks

T-mobile ROMs are known to prevent USB flashing ... you will have to use the SD card method with .nbf files
Could you link me to the directions on how to do it that way. I'm really new at this. Is the SD the sim card?
Thanks
Garth
It seems you are familiar with the kitchen and that's fine ... cook your new ROM as usual but select the ROM to be .nbf file.
Using the XDAtools you can copy this file to the SD card (Secur Disk card for expantion not the SIM and it should be 64 MB or higher) ... then goto the boot loader (soft reset while pressing power) ... it will ask you to perss action ... when flashing is done, press hard reset ... wait 60 sec then press hard rest again ... enjoy
Doing this you must have a sd card
First thing you have to do is Back up your pocket pc.
1. go to the kitchen
2. select items for your rom
3. cook rom in nbf format ( secont method )
4. download xdatools from xda-developers.com
5. backup your sdcard in on your pc b/c this will format your card.
6. unzip the rom you cooked
7. now using the next step will erase your pocket pc
8. press the power button and reset you phone with your stylus
9. now you will see a different scree in the bottom it will say bootloader version xx
10. you must have below 5.15 if not start the program in "fix broken bootloader" in xdatools menu on your pc.(you mmust have your pocket pc connected to activesync.
11. now put your sd card in your pda and run xdatools browse to the file you downloaded and unzipped.
12. now press copy.
13. you will see a progress bar.
14. when this completes again press the power button and reset using your stylus.
15. now press the action button.
16 . the screen will now say FLASHING .
17. when this completes you will see your new rom.
I have done the same thing 2 days back.
FLASHING IS DANGEROUS NO GUARANTEE.
Do I need to install the xdatool to the pocket pc? And then run it from the pocket pc or from my notebook? Do i put the nbf and unzip it in the SD card or on my notbook.
Thanks
Also under xdatool it has source and destination. Do I get the rom from souce sd card and then put it into programme a?
Thanks
you will run xdatools from your notebook with.
unzip in your hard drive.
chose source where you unzipped your nbf file.dont use deop down menu use the browse button (...)
chose destination from drop down menu as " XDA SD CARD SLOT"
Easy for XDA I, but XDA II how to update from SD.

I'm with a similar problem... but i can't use active sync because the pc craches
Can i just copy the nbf fileto a sd card through a sd card writer? And do the all other stuff in the same way?
not you cant copy the nbf file to the sdcard it will not work you HAVE to use xdatools to get it there
Having broken my HD2 I needed to remove HSPL from my phone in order to claim on the insurance policy. After 3 hours I finally worked it out and thought I would help others with clear, step by step instructions.
1. Format a microSD card with a FAT-32 file system
2. Download your ORIGINAL rom file (most available on the sticky thread named "[REF] Leo Official ROMS")
3. This is the bit I missed - change the file extension of the downloaded rom file to .zip (You need to show file name extensions in windows explorer. Open My Computer>tools>Folder Options>uncheck "hide extensions for known file types") - sorry if this is obvious but this is for noobs!
4. Unzip the file RUU_signed.nbh and rename it LEOIMG.nbh
5. Copy LEOIMG.nbh to your microSD card and insert it in the phone.
6. Hold the volume down key and power on your phone. As soon as the coloured screen changes to grey, RELEASE volume down.
7. Press power button to reflash your phone.
That's it!
Apologies if this is repeating previous threads but it took me FOREVER to figure it out and I wanted to help others with the same problems!

All the steps for this are on my flashing for noobs thread which is stickied. If you had checked there first you could have saved 2 hours 55 minutes
Glad you sorted it out in the end though lol.

hey there, this post's for anyone out there who's really into messing with their phone and wants to set up a personalized bootsplash screen (i.e. the first image on the screen when you boot the phone)
you'll probably be familiar with the start-up images that you see on powering on your phone...from what i've found, there are 3 different screens that are displayed before you reach you today screen-
1-the manufacturer's boot image (the one with the htc logo)
2-the operator's splash screen (if present, i've found some phones do not necessarily include this or leave it empty r black)
3-the gif animation
images 2 and 3 can be changed from the advanced config tool or adding files in '/windows' folder
but for those who really want their phone to be unique the boot splash image, no. 1 above, is really hard to get on (took me three days of searching trial and error to finally get it done)
so here's a simple walkthrough for anyone else like me who want to do it too...
first you need to get the right tools...
a) go to forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=351136 and get the flashbootsplash.zip
b) next go to forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=375980 and download the splashtool.zip
both threads have given their own methods but i couldn't get them to work on my (old) gene even after numerous tries and my poor gene was down with the horrid green bars of failed attempts
now to get our hands dirty...
0. extract the contents of the zips into their respective folders
1. find an image file that you want as your boot screen and get it into .bmp format with resolution of 240X320 and bit depth of 24 (you can open your .jpeg in paint and use the 'save as' function to do this)
2. now run nb_image_converter.exe from the flashbootsplash folder extracted from zip file from first link (link a) and load your edited .bmp file, and then save it as splash.nb
3. now run GeneBootSplash.exe, then open your splash.nb that was created in the previous step, a gene_splash.nb will be created in the folder
4. copy this gene_splash.nb file into the splashtool folder which was extracted from the zip file from the second link (link b)
5. now run htcrt.exe, click on build, select your device from device list, in the firmware section go to splash option (click on the '...' next to 'Splash') and select the gene_splash.nb file copied in step 4 and then click on build
save file as RUU_signed.nbh
6. lastly, copy this .nbh file into your ROMUpdateUtility folder and run ROMUpdateUtility.exe to flash the .nbh file and you're done!!
that's all there is to it...
special mentions to- Vukile and M-Amine whose threads helped me get the job done and to the site for being as amazing as it is!!
*this is my first thread here so pardon it if it sounded too tacky*
Hi,
I have downloaded an official Rom from and Enter to Bootloader Mode by taking the battery out, then put it back in and hold down the 'Volume Down' button while briefly pressing the power button.
After the phone enters the Bootloader Screen, i have plugged in the usb cable so it says usb at the bottom of the screen and Run the pda phone rom utility.
Bu that doesn't work !!! After 1%, i received the error message 244 : Invalide model ID.
Can you help me ?
sounds like you dont have the correct rom for your device
No, I choose HTC HD2 on the support website, enter my serial number and downloaded the Good rom
I found the solution :
1) Using 7-zip, open the official ROM update exe file. Do not execute it.
Inside you will see RUU_signed.nbh, extract just that file. Nothing else.
2)rename RUU_signed.nbh, to leoimg.nbh
3)Copy leoimg.nbh into your SD card which is FAT16 or FAT32 formatted.
4) Unplug the battery from the HD2, count to 10, replace the battery.
5) Hold the VOLUME DOWN button and press the POWER BUTTON, then let go.
6) Plug the usb and execute the official ROM update exe file
And Enjoy !!!
