Hi,
Searching why my D2 is dead some mornings whereas the batteries are good on the evening, I found out that the D2 freezes at 23h55 - and that sort of deadlock consumes the batteries during the night.
It's now 3h20AM, I have put the screen on (D2 was in standby mode, screen being off) => it mentions 23h55, and it is frozen (no response either with the stylus or the buttons).
To what could that freeze at that very particular time could be linked to?
I must add that sometimes during the day the clock is desynchronized (10 minutes late for instance, as if the phone has entered a deadlock during 10 minutes and came back to life after...)
(I created this particular thread from the batteries problem one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4780101#post4780101
as this one is a very specific behaviour, not related to 3G or common optimizations regarding batteries).

it's scared of the midnight ghost hour so it stalls before it gets there?
seriously though, i would check/delete the alarm registries (and any other time based notification you can think of)
I remember people getting ghost alarms (which would often freeze their phones) in WM5 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-242103.html)
good luck
I had the same problem, unfortunately only found a hard reset resolved the problem.
That's indeed what I've done 2 days ago, since then all runnin' fine (let's wait for 1 week to be sure, sometimes I hadn't any problem for an entire week).
I can't think of other suspects than RTremote and Galarm that were the only "sleeping" programs I had on my D2...
In the past I also saw my phone waking up at midnight, yesterday that wasn't the case.
Problem still there :-(
My phone froze Sunday evening at 23h54 (time still mentioned as it was after midnight).
This time the phone was charging, whereas being full the battery led remained orange (last times even no charging, the freeze occurred).
Only the power button was still working as previous times (to put the screen on/off).
My configuration is the following:
- Model: Touch Diamond2 T5353 (French Orange)
- ROM: 1.39.406.1 (49068) FRE (date 16/06/2009 - official 21/07/2009 HTC ROM)
- Radio version: 3.43.25.19
- Protocol version: 61.20t.25.10U
- SPL Olinex 1.83
- Lock on (code to be entered after 5min max to be enable to use the phone)
- No "dormant" application installed (as could be RTremote or Galarm)
- Applications installed: Resco Explorer (+plugings), Resco Audio recorder, Diamond Ati D3D drivers, Microsoft .NET CF 3.5, Marathon, LSD2008 Lite, GPS2Blue, ShakeAndSave, Hologram, TaskMgr, dwRuler, hdWobble, PowerRadio.
I can’t see what the source of the problem is… Any ideas?
Any similar behaviour on your phones?
Hello!
I had the same issue and realized that it was Galarm that "haunted" my Diamond 2 every night at around 23:58
As long as you don't have the above application, I would suggest a hard reset and then check D2 without installing any apps for the first night
Hello,
i have the same Problem as Markot. Only the Power-Button works. No timebased App is installed. The problem is in most cases the TD2 is connected to a charger, not only on midnight.
Bye MyPass
Hi all,
I think I got it!
Actually, to be more comprehensive with my "flashing history", I did first, some months ago, the ROM flashing with SPL Olinex 1.33 (HTC official WM 6.1).
Then I discovered "the bug" I described in this thread (and in another thread before, the battery leaks, finding my phone dead in the morning...)
Doing a hard reset did not change anything.
2 weeks ago, I decided to try the official HTC WM 6.5 release (I previously installed SPL 1.83 after having installed WM 6.1).
But not completely satisfied, I put back WM 6.1 WITH SPL 1.83 THIS TIME.
And it's working fine since then, no freeze anymore during 1,5 week.
So the problem was related to flashing WM 6.1 with SPL 1.33 - whereas when doing it with SPL 1.83, all runs like a charm.
Another clue is the blinking led on sms received (default behaviour): after flashing WM 6.1 with SPL 1.33, I have never seen it. After flashing WM 6.1 with SPL 1.83, the blinking appeared.
Cheers.
Guys,
If you are using Galarm, there is a register value "midnightwakeup", try to set it "false"
i made a hardreset and the problem was solved
i had this problem last night. as you expect i was very veri surprized. almost to be late for work. anyway, since i have bought the phone it did nothave such problem. This may be the problem "Setings tab->All Settings ->personal -> phone ->Time Zones Tab." i have remembered that i played with this particular setting last day. now i have disable it and we will see what will happen tonight.
look at yours TD2 and if this thing is checked, then unchecked it. it may help. At least wount harm
no problem so far, after unchecking this setting.

I remember someone mentioning that the wizard (in my case the K-Jam) reboots sometimes.
I have had mine about 2 weeks, and have not noticed this...... until I enabled the phone SIM lock that is! I first noticed this when the phone was on whilst charging.
I know now when it is rebooting, as the SIM lock appears again. I am using the SD card, and I heard that had something to do with it.
I have the latest ROM from Imate, as it was the new batch that shipped.
Does anyone know what causes this or if there is a fix? how many others have found this?
Mine K-Jam has rebooted 3 times last 2 weeks. Once during a phonecall. Once while connected to my computer and one time while navigating.
I first thought it had something to do with my magnetic car holder. I have a small magnet on the back of my battery door and I thought that while driving the battery would have lost it's connection so I put some ducktape on it... But then it happened when connected to my pc and doing nothing :?:
I don't see a patern yet..
Wouter
No random reboots here - had a KJam since the first week in October with a 1GB miniSD card and SIMLock on since day 1.
KJam info:
ROM v1.1.9.3
ROM date 9/16/05
Radio version: 01.01.10
Protocol version: 4.0.13.16
ExtROM version: 1.1.9.104
Forgot to mention. I got my simlock on since the beginning (14-10-05)
Wouter
As said before, mine started rebooting after I installed SKYPE, once I removed SKYPE the problem went away.
I don't have Skype installed...
Wouter
I have had Skype installed since the off without issue. Currently running the latest Skype release, installed on the miniSD card.
I have the same problem ... it reboots very often, the funny thing is that it doesn't ask for pin when rebooting, it automatically logs on the GSM network...
I also often receive a message "unable to launch /Program Files/Skype/Skype.exe or so" ... I moved skype from SD to device but it didn't help ...
PS: I have a german Vodaphone VPA compat II (same hardware but different look) ... maybe it has something to do with a buggy ROM ? ...
Same here on my Qtek 9100.
I even missed out on a date waiting on a phonecall, did not know that my phone had secretly rebooted and was not loged into the network.
My dopod is rebooting since the very first day. I had installed verious ROMs > no difference. I can't find any reason for it. As someone mendioned already, it is very embarassing sometime since you don't know when the phone reboots and you are off line. I can tell you I would not buy this phone anymore. For me this shoiuld be a working tool and not a toy. My pda phone before (Blue Angel) had also some problems, but over all it was working much better then this piece of s....from Dopod. (Sorry my language). If you browse in this forum you must get the impression noone has evre tested these pda phone before drop them to the market. I just hope there are poeple in Taiwan at HTC and at Microsoft who read some of those forums, so we can hope to get some improvment the next future..
By the way this is the 3rd HW, the first two pieces where not working at all.
I also experience the same problems because of Skype. My
k-Jam came from Expansys with Skype on the extended ROM and of course SIM free. Skype couldn't even start on the pre-installed version. I unlocked the Extended ROM and threw out Skype and the AV (no more annoying prompts). Now the device seems to work fine, a bit slow though. I tried ti install the latest Skype version for slow CPU and experienced the same problems. High CPU works but hardly connects. I am still not sure how to have Skype runnung on my device as I travel a lot and can definetly use it with Wi Fi.
It seems skype has something to do with those reboot problems; but it's not the only one -- yesterday my 9100 was rebooting every few minutes (5-10); I then removed the miniSD as suggested above, it seems to have fixed the problem... need some more days to be sure. I'm gonna try to reformat my miniSD (which I formerly used on my SPV C500, some strange problems from time to time as well, but not so frequently) to check if it helps,
let's see !
gilsas
same here; spontaneous reboots. Did not use Skype when the first reboot occured.
Maybe it has to do with the programs intalled on the SD card?
I used to have those spontanious resets for a long time and I used to install a lot of programs on my mini sd card.
I haven't had any for a month now (and I had the latest light version of Skype installed) since I installed all programs in main memory. Of course not all programs. TomTom Navigator is on my storage card but I never leave it open when shutting my k-jam down.
Wouter
I get a few a week (maybe more that I don't notice) Uninstalled Skype from the beginning. Mine simply reboots and goes back to the today screen.
The treo 650 has a key combination that tells you what problems caused the soft reset, anything like that on the KJam (Wizard)
Well so much for my not having any spontanious soft resets anymore.
I just had another last night
I had a couple of programs open (Pocket Informant, Resco Explorer, TCPMP, MyPersonalDiet and Inbox). Maybe it was TCPMP because it plays files from the storage card... :?:

After I've kept my QTEK 9100 on for 5-10 minutes (seems to be 7 or 10 minutes) without using it, it suddenly reboots, showing the ROM-version and all that (booting up).
My thoughts are that there's a problem with the automatic power off function (controlled by "power usage" in the Settings) that makes it reboot instead of just turning off the device but I havn't changed the automatic power off time limit enough to know if this really has something to do with it. Anyone else tried this?
EDIT:
I've now tried to change the automatic power off to 1 minute:
After one minute the QTEK power off, but after 5-10 minutes it reboot itself (turning itself on again). That means, from all that I understand, that it has nothing to do with the power off function.
I should probably mention that I have Skype 1.2.0.89 installed. What versions of Skype do you have? Anyone with Skype -installed- not experiencing the spontaneous reboots? I don't think you need to have Skype running to experience these problems - it seems to be enough that it's installed?
Anyone know if it has something to do with what ROM you're using?
QTEK 9100 (bought around 2006-01-10) with Swedish OS
ROM-version: 1.3.7.13 SVE
ROM-date: 9/29/05
Radio version: 01.04.10
Protocol version: 4.0.13.17
ExtROM-version: 1.3.7.125
I use a dopod 838 and I have the same problem as well. Strangely, this is not widely mentioned in this forum. I get one or two resets a day, and can be rather disturbing.
I do not have Skype installed, but have several games installed in the miniSD.
I'm currently using the Kjam rom, but I have had the same experience with the origianl DOPOD rom as well as the O2 rom.
I have Wisbar 2 (beta for WM5) installed, and had thought it to be the problem, but I got a reset even after it was removed.
I do not have SKYPE.
I have TCPMP installed, but rarely use it.
I'd really like to get to the bottom of this. Should I have this device turned in for warranty?
i found this problem alot when using the tweaks 2k2, when i moved the shared dll files to the storage card it keeps on restarting every two minutes or so. but that was the only situation that it reboots, other than that, never.
i have this rom:
rom: 1.1.9.3
date: 9/16/05
radio: 01.01.10
ext: 1.1.9.106
device: K-Jam
but once i redo the process, i never had a rebooting problem, that was 3 weeks ago.
Maybe if we compile a list of what we have running, we can find some common elements. I'm using the K-Jam
I have:
TCPMP - rarely use
MS Voice Command
SPB Pocket Plus
Pocket Weather
PocketZenPhone - currently disabled
PhoneAlarm (beta but the resets were happening before installation)
GSPocketMagic
Sunnysoft Backup Manager
MortRunner
StartUp Menu Contents:
bkpMgrDeleter (party of sunnysoft)
CapNotify (not sure of this)
GSPocketMagic
Init_Tray
poutlook
sddaemon (what is this)
Services

Where to begin....
I have had my wiz for about a year now (maybe longer) and everything was running fine. Nothing special installed really. I've Sim and CID unlocked, flashed to 1.1 and then flashed again to Mr. Frazzz's XDA Mobile 6 (awesome btw) and had been running that for quite some time with battery status as the only other thing I've really added.
One night I was out and managed to hit my touch screen on a table and it shattered. Things ran fine for a while (could still see considering the touch is seperate from the LCD) and managed to use it as a phone using shortcut keys. Then i started getting problems like slowing down etc and I figured it was partially due to the duress of a cracked touch screen making the phone think it was having a part of the screen pushed (or not there) so i finally had the screen, both the touch and lcd, replaced. Shortly after, I noticed the phone would freeze up randomly. (this is also about the time i switched from t-mobile to at&t prepaid) Sometimes it would do it 3 or 4 times a day and the only remedy is removing the battery. Sometimes it will go for over a week without any issues. Any ideas? Im ready to melt it.
Here's what I've done thus far with no results:
Reflashed to official t-mobile 2.26 and then flashed to Mr. Frazzz's WM6. I've re-installed battery status and then came across a thread stating that the latest version of which might be causing hangups....so i gimped it at first, using only settings I had known to work before with no issues and later uninstalled the whole thing. Still having the same problems.
I have the WM6 radio fix for cingular and 2.69.11 radio as well.
One thing I do notice is that, everytime i make a call and receive the system message stating what that call had cost me, it can cause weird things to happen if I was in the process of doing something else. Not sure that's part of the issue though considering the phone will just be sitting in my pocket when it does randomly freeze.
Is it possible that my mem card is just being jostled and causing issues? or that somehow the powerbutton is being adversely affected inside my pocket if the phone gets flipped upside down? Anyone and everyone's imput would be greatly appreciated, especially if Mr. Frazzz has any input. BTW, this has happened using both WM6r3 and r5 by Mr. Frazzz. I upgraded to r5 this last time i reinstalled WM6.
I'm guessing battery status is doing it. Same thing happended to me, did a hard reset, installed all my programs again excluding battery status and everything is fine.
Is there something else I can install that will overclock for me when the phone is active and kick down the speed when idle?
I also used battery status for the disable proxy thingie when wiFi is on.
Well...Overclocking is never safe and the manufacture of a cpu has clocked a cpu at a set speed. Why, because it is more stable. So anything past the stable speed will bound to be unstable. I overclock mine to 260 and still do not notice a boost so either you leave it at 195 and run smoothly or make it "faster" and have more issues. Your call.
Hi
My HD2 often fails to wake up when I press any of hard button. Before I perform a hard reset I wanted to ask you guys if there are any tweaks or apps which might be causing this. I am using the stock T-Mobile UK firmware, and besides tweaking a few settings via BsB Tweaks, the phone is pretty much in its original state.
My previous HD used to do this for a time, until I realized it started happening after setting up Windows Exchange server. After hard resetting and setting everything up again, it worked fine. I wonder if the problem I have with the HD2 is also due to the exchange server.
Sometimes the phone does wake up a couple of minutes after I pressed buttons, sometimes an incoming SMS helps it. And many times it just wakes up as it should when I press the Home or power button.
I don't have many apps installed, besides Tomtom.
Cheers !
Hi, the same was to me: sent an sms, locked the device, tried to unlock it in half an hour - screen blank, no response to buttons at all. ROM is stock. I remember, I also had TomTom installed and some other popular tweaks, not remember which exactly. After it, I did hard-reset the phone (restored original state). Didn't had the same problem after it.
But had a lot of other problems with HD2 - unsent sms even after sms fix from HTC, unlock screen of S2U2 locked completely (someone was calling me at this moment!), sporadic change of clock time zone...
It is my first smart-phone, and I'm disappointed soooo much... Used "true" mobile phones for years, but never had such problems.
I had the same problem but it's seemed to have stopped (for about 2 days now). It got to the point where the phone wouldn't get past the boot screen! I had to re-flash in the end....
I think it may be related to the applications I may have running. Although, most people are saying the ROMs so far are not 100% stable. (I'm running the Official Test version of 1.61)
The things I've done to try to get around it is :
- Ensure .NET compact frame work is installed to set up 3.5 and set up correctly in the registry
- Once in a whie I run the cleanRAM application that's been developed here on these forums
I don't think I've found the total solution yet, but I'm sure having these in check will help.
To give an update :
I did a hard reset yesterday. (it's always painful, but also exciting as you can set it up from start - sad i know)
This time I set up the windows exchange server straight from the beginning, then installed all the tweaks, tomtom, hotfixes etc. It woke up everytime since then, touch wood !
I'm not sure, but there are security policies pushed through to the device (like making screen lock compulsary etc) when I set up the exchange server, maybe this is causing some sort of conflict with the device, which is maybe somehow avoided when you set it up before anythin else... I dunno.
I'll let you know if it fails to wake up again.
By the way, so far I only installed BsB tweaks, but didnt apply any tweaks yet. I changed the battery percentage display, 16 quick links cab, and 3G switch in the Coms Manager, but that's it. No tweaking in the registry yet, just so that I can determine the root cause if it happens again. But so far it looks good ! It also seems faster (as it always does
Is it still running stable ?

It has been pretty much stable. Since the hard reset I was adding (or tweaking) tweaks and cabs in a controlled manner to see which one might be causing the freezing.
After I installed the Disable Auto Device Lock.cab (search the forum, I think it is in the sticky Tips and Tricks post), my HD2 didn't wake up a few times. I uninstalled dit and it is working fine again.
Weird, but maybe that's the registry change that conflicts with the exchange server policies that are pushed to the device, and causes the freeze.
Need help here; not sure whether this is ROM dependent. Don't exactly remember when the problems started; the problems are:
(1) I have disabled the Sense and have been using the traditional Today screen with various plug-ins, etc. After about 10-15 minutes phone call, the Today screen will become like the attachment. First will be like the one at the left, then a few minutes later it will become like the second photo. Then a few minutes later, the entire phone will crash and a soft reset will be forced automatically.
(2) At the middle of the night while the device was charging, the device will "sleep to death". Press the hardware buttons the lights on the buttons will light up but the screen is dead. Only a removal of the battery can re-start the device.
What I have done and didn't help was:
(1) refresh the ROM
(2) refresh only the radio
(3) upgrade the ROM (and radio)
(4) Mtty
(5) Hardreset and re-install programs one by one (not from backup)
For reference, I am running on dZenkinz's Merlion ROM 2.40. HSPL was installed.
Please advise what could have caused the above problems and appreciate any advices.
Do MTTY again and flash a stock ROM directly after the task 8.
Do not install software that could cause problems (e.g. I see you are using batti or similar, this program always made troubles with my phones).
Try using the ROM a while without a storage card.
If the problem still persists I would send it in for repair.
Thanks for the advice.
I MTTY and flash my device to 1.66 shipped ROM via microSD card (to override the HSPL by the stock SPL, just in case that was the culprit of the color distortion and phone crash problems). I install some "barely minimum" software to keep it going, which included:
- Resco explorer
- Klaxon alarm
- cootek Touchpal 3.5
- BsB Tweaks
- HD2Tweak
- Palringo (an Instant Messaging client)
Everything seems fine after about 10 hours of usage - no hangs, no sleep to death, no color distortion, some short phone calls didn't crash the phone ...
This morning I had a 30 minutes phone call. To my surprise, the color distortion came back, the device was hanged (no crash, nor reset automatically) but the phone conversation was still on. After the phone call was finished, the device was not responsive to any key or screen presses. Only removal of the battery brought the device back to life.
What could be the possible culprit? I have since removed the Cootek 3.5 (which was designed for wm 6.1) to test again. I don't think all other software I have installed could have possibly caused the problems.
Any advice from the expert here?
Appreciate all help here. Thanks in advance.
It still seems like a software issue.
Would be best to make a hardreset again and then using the phone without installing ANY software that is permanently active.
- Resco Explorer v8 is good, I'm using this myself
- BSB Tweaks I am using without problems too
I would suggest to not install
- Klaxon alarm (you can search for G-Alarm 1.5 instead, it's the last free version, and can be found somewhere in this forum. G-Alarm I was using too without probs.)
- cootek Touchpal 3.5
- HD2Tweak
- Palringo (I heard of strange phone behavior from other people that were using this program)
Then see what happens after a while.
As said before, if it doesn't help you'll need to send your device in for repair.
Overclocking Killing Elfs?
My Elf recently died. It was only 2 years old. I think for the price of these things they should last more than a couple of years. However; that being said am wondering if running an over-clock software sent it to an early grave. Here is a list and sequence of events:
1) Running Blue Elves 5
2) Used BatteryStatus software for overclocking
3) Over-clocked CPU to 260 max—using CPUScaler so that when resting was at 99
4) About 6 months before it died noticed from time to time (and with increasing frequency) that the time clock was behind time when I turned on the backlight but would correct itself within a second or two
5) 2 months before it died began to shut itself off—or just powered off by itself. Would take it out of my pocket and restart it and would be fine
6) Towards the end of its life this became more frequent—sometimes twice a day
Anyone else experience this sequence of events using over-clocking?
With my new Elf (yes, hate the death, love the HTC products) have now not over-clocked it, have however used CPUScaler so it rests at 99 which I think gives me longer battery life. Therefore only runs up to 201.
i,m having the exact same problems as you described. so now i know my device will die in +/- 6 months. i also use overclocking softwarea (2 years now). but my problems started after installing cleanram.

To what speed are you overclocking? How long have you been overclocking?
i,m overklocking to 247 for about 2 years (homescreen ++). the last 2 months i overclocked my elf to 260. but my divice became to unstable i had to clock it back yo 247.
did you install any other software just before your device died? i think {on my divece} it has to do something with memory. because after i installed cleanram and start using it, i start to notice the issues you described. now i,m not using cleanram anymore and the problems where gone. it still occours that my elf hangs, but i think that has something to do with the fact that some softwares i installed are written for newer devices with more speed/memory. i,m pushing my elf to/over the max with the result it slowly dies.
i for instance have the problem that i can,t hear who is calling me. i have to use a headset or switch to speaker when calling

No, I was running Blue Elves ROM for the most part. No other software seemed to cause any problems. Was using SKTools as my cleaner, backup, etc. Seemed to work fine and didn't seem to creat any problems. Am using it on my current Elf with no problems.

How long have you had it overclocked? In the beginning mine also was very fast and stable. Took about a year and a half before I began to see signs of problems, small at first--such as the clock delay in showing the correct time. I think (maybe I'm wrong) that was the beginning of the end for my Elf. BTW, dead Elfs are great backup battery chargers.
