updating radio - Hero, G2 Touch General

is there really a point updating radio>?
can anybody point me in the right direction how its done for hero, i have searched but cannot find, help would be superb
thank you

Sorry if this sounds harsh, but please use the search function before posting a question. There are loads of threads discussing the pro's and con's of the different radio ROMs, and how they can be flashed to your device.
I know you just want someone to summarize this information for you, but that isn't really what XDA is all about!
Regards,
Dave

I appreciate you're new here and we welcome newcomers, but please do not give new threads titles like "Please read". Always give a brief/concise indication of the problem - this helps when people are doing searches later. Also all threads have equal priority and if we think we can help by looking at the thread title then we will open it, so pleading does not encourage us to look. In fact it can turn some folks off.
This forum has two search facilities one on the brown bar near the top of the page and a different type in the Google Search sticky post.
Here endeth the lesson
Go forth read, learn and enjoy.
Mike
Thanks for the lecture Mike ....well understood.
Can I please get an answer now?... I have a feeling it can be done I just want to know for sure.
Thanks ya'll
dude, if you click the word "here" in my post it will take you to the answer. also, if you click on the secret in my signature it will take you to the same answer. we all try to be self-sufficient around here, so Im not trying to be a jerk. if we spoon feed you the easy stuff you will never develop into the 'contributing' member that we all hope to be around here.
Apparently Mike's lecture wasn't 'well understood' because if it was then a very simple search would have provided you with all the answers you need.
So in answer to your question - yes you can.
Now I know your next question is going to be 'How' - the answer to that one is mrvanx's guide.
We've all been guilty of being new and also of flaming noobs, but when you've read a few threads you'll realise everyone's frustration at seeing this type of question again and again and again..... Also, I know the XDA search function isn't always good, but just by reading Mike's sticky, third from the top on this page, you'd have found a better way of searching.
Go on, don't be shy, and try it now http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298893 it's amazing what you can find...

Why don't you try them both - you will have the best answer you can get. Asking which ROM is better is a nasty way to pollute this forum. Please read HELP for NEW GUYS.

It is not my intention to pollute anything. I just though it could be useful to read to good and the bad of each ROM by informed people like you.
Personally I like to read reviews and also to add things to them...
Syrius is a GREAT ROM but has some bugs. Wouldnt you be happy to read if the alternative ROM has the same bugs before you loose one hour of your time flashing the ROM, uploading stufff etc?

If you do not want to pollute you should read threads related each of these ROMs and make up your mind.
If you decide to try some ROM you could leave your opinion (if you have something new to say) about it in appropriate thread. That way if someone will want to know pros and cons about those ROMs they will easily find it.
I don't want to be harsh but if we keep these forums as clean as possible they will be more useful for everyone.
Ok.. Syrius R0 has about 90 pages of posts.. and you speak to me about pollution?
Your advice is for reader who barely know how to flash their devices to read 90 pages of posts, some of them being just " " "Great" etc... and you feel uncorfortable with a topic were people compare real bugs.
Opal doesnt even have a feature list...
Anyway, please close this topic... I have read most of the 90 pages of the Syrius posts and am well aware of its bugs.
I also would like for keeping this forum up and let us use all the information provided. I truly thank you all!

Think about it a second. You could not reach the info you wanted because of polluted thread. You tried to solve your problem by creating one more unnecessary thread. Is this the correct way to make the information easily accessible? Is this the way you would like this forum to look like? It is already in horrible state now, please do not make it even worse for all of us.
I Agree.. can some Admin close or delete this topic?
BTW.. has anyone knows the answer to my question in
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=433416
It would certainly help me before trying Opal
Thanks

Actually @silaval is right, why should we read hundreds of "great" and "thanx" postings to find out some real oppinions, instead of creating a new thread , a tehnical one? I don't say it is a good ideea to open new threads when a previous one gets polluted with nonsense posts, but forum amins should give more moderating rights for the ones who really contribute to those threads (chefs, rom makers, SERIOUS beta testers like @batista70, @NeoS2007, @ravest etc) to keep clean this forum. I am moderator in some gsm repairing related forums and the thing I hate most is the pollution with nonsense "thanx" messages. Posters, if you wanna contribute with feedback, do it, if you can't than donate, othervise shut up, but don't post just for the sake of posting, or to increase post count, it doesn't helps!

mano
ps: maybe admins should consider to update forum's vbb script, and give us a "THANX" button, this way threads would be much clearer.
silaval is absolutely right, its not the same thing if a board is polluted or a thread. Just think further guys, the REALLY important topics are either sticky or are nearly always on top of the first page, cause people post into them so much. So, I agree with you, avoiding unnecessary threads is a good thing - but the problem with "thank you" posts is a MUCH bigger problem.
@mano42: I second that, hopefully admins will integrate that feature, would save aprox. 50 posts / ROM thread.
regards,
Martin
Way to kill a possibly informative thread guys...he asked a very practical question. Both of these ROMs come from different sources and have pretty different pros and cons and both release posts have a ton of filler so it's difficult to see possible bugs in the ROM. Instead of berating him for 4 or 5 posts, how about you just weigh in on the topic at hand? The only other alternative should be to ignore the post and let it drop down the list of posts.
To answer his question, I find the bugs in Syrius R0 to not be too bad and the things added make it one of the fastest/lightest ROMs I've used on a HTC device. Since R1 was just released, it should be a moot point now as most of those bugs have been quashed.
Guess you'll have to wait a bit for any answers since R1 just came out :O

New sticky idea tutorial on searching.

Ok so as dumb as this sounds I propose someone write a tutorial on how to search. I would do this myself but really english was not my strong point (English class I mean) it would be full of misspells and bad grammar. Anyway I always see lots of bandwith wasted on flaming people for not SEARCHING and I have even seen people who blantantly admit they don't know how to search. So we NEED a sticky on how to search ie going into the phone you have question about and search this thread, make sure the info is for YOUR phone, and I don't know maybe if any of you have ideas on what should be included on this sticky feel free to elaborate. Oh and im sure that I put this in the wrong area so SORRY mods feel free to move to better location if there is. Someone please write a noob guide on searching!!!!!!!!!!!!
p.s. I tried to move this thread sorry I posted here if anyone has the capability or can tell me how I would like to put in the best place.
I second this. For first time posters they should read a tut about searching before posting as this happens in many forums. If people come here to learn how to flash roms and unlock/customize phones, searching should be "easy" enough to do.
Moved as not ROM Development.
Thank you

cdzo is correct you really should try searching first, were not trying to have a go at you but i'm sure you can understand it helps to stop people creating mulitple threads all wanting the same thing and bogging down the forum pages.
Your are in the right place though,I still see myself as a bit of a noob but have learnt lots from the good pople at xda.
I think this may help you.

Good luck.
Guys he only need a simple answer
Here is what exactly you will need
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Dell_Streak
That may be, but how is he going to learn if the answers are given to him? The search engine is on the site for a reason, and as the XDA Noob video points out, if you have a question, it's probably already been asked and answered.

There's a reason Google and the forum search function exist. Find them yourself. If you ever plan on coming on these forums in the future, the simple advice of searching will help you A LOT.

just a point of interest...the search function has been down for the past few days. certainly was when you wrote this post and continues to be unavailable at the time of my post now.
I'm certain it worked 2 days ago, as I only noticed it was down yesterday and I use it all the time, and as of now I'm able to make a search. Plus, Google is always available. The post might have sounded harsh but it's genuinely the best general advice you could possibly give. If you have a problem, chances are that the solution is out there, and it's unlikely that you're the only one with it. Guides though are stupidly easy to come by, so there's no point someone rewriting a guide if it's already out there. Plus, doing it yourself genuinely gives a feeling of accomplishment

You are *certainly* incorrect. The search function was down when you posted that "advice" and you failing to notice it changes nothing about the fact that it wasn't working when you chastised someone to use it.
If one doesn't know the correct terms to search for, or the English language well enough to search with, then telling someone to use google (do you honestly think that people don't know how to search or that google exists? clearly you telling them to "google" is not new information) is going to be useless "advice".
Being harsh or rude without any additional assistance is neither helpful nor desirable behavior. If you want to be helpful, post the appropriate links and *then* suggest the user to the search function.
Regardless, I'm not going to debate this.

Hmm, I'm now not so sure whether I was right about the search function being down since you seem so convinced that it wasn't, but searching is by far the best thing he can do and you know it. I really CBA to argue this now, but you'd be absolutely amazed at the number of people who don't search before posting. Just see how many people ask the questions 'how do I flash Android to my HD2' or 'what is the best ROM' without looking at the popup suggestions or googling it first. About your last point about being helpful etc., telling someone to search is helpful in its own right. It will save them a lot of trouble, time and getting flamed in the future.
