New HTC Sense Email - Touch Diamond2, Pure General

I see in some of the HD2 video reviews that HTC have their own email app?? I am HATING the WM version (I am a previous iPhone owner).
Does anyone know of or have seen where this can be found, added, looked at, fondled etc? I need a better email experience than the crippled WM version.

Just download a ROM with Leo manila, or Sense manila
Here are some links:

I should have explained myself better . I have Dutty's R5 in my TD2 but the Manila email is different to the one I see in the HD2 sense. The HD2 looks very Manila (and hopefully more HTML friendly). The email app in Dutty's ROM is typical windows mobile look and feel with that useless MS 'Internet Images blocked so click here and here and here to see images that every other email client in the world can show automatically' (bit of sarcasm there!).
I went through some of the ROMs given by cmstackar above and see that some have Manila_Mail_2_5_19193010_0 and other versions. I guess I am after the version that is in the HD2.
I really would like a better email experience from WM but I suppose I have been spoilt with the iPhone. I want to give this phone a go, I really do!

To be honest, I'm not quite clear either, even after searching, and I've spent many, many hours in this forum. It would be nice to have a clear definition of Manila vs TF3D vs Sense, because all three seem to be used interchangeably in the forum.
I wait to be flamed, but isn't Sense just "tarted up" TouchFlo3D with a new snappier name that makes marketing easier? I imagine "Manila" was the original name (an acronym?) for HTC's (at the time) new interface to overlay the WM interface. So, Manila would mean both TF3D and Sense?

There is something to be said about having a general dictionary or list of product names on the forum. There are many names that I don't know and it can take ages to find what they are.
For starters I DID search - plz don't assume something
I do agree that a dictionary of terms would be great.
A breakdown of the convention
TouchFLO: The UI modification designed by HTC.
Manila: Version 2.0 / 2.1 of the TouchFLO UI
Sense: Version 2.5 of the TouchFLO UI
Think of it as codenames, very much like internal build names for the devices.
Touch Diamond 2 = Topaz, for instance, in the same way as TouchFLO 2.1 = Manila and TouchFLO 2.5 = Sense.

Oh dear! I would not want to upset anyone still busily upgrading to the latest start-of-the-art TouchFLO 2.n by having TouchFLO 3.n
This is the standard TouchFLO for T-Mobile written by HTC. Maybe they started new numbering for T-Mobile? Does the build number you quote relate to all TouchFLO versions or just the TouchFLO 2.n versions?
Manila 2.1 is now called HTC Sense in the new 6.5 upgrade ROMs.
Sense is (AFAIK) the "My Location" bit of Manila that allows you to display the weather for my location on the today screen, it's also the code name for the HTC Hero interface that first demostrated weather on the Today screen.
The first Manila 2.1 didn't have sense, but then it was added so it's manila 2.1+Sense, manila 2.5 has always had it.
Dave
Right, I hope everyone's clear on that now
So, extracting from the various posts:
1. TouchFLO was the first HTC interface add-on to WM.
2. Manila was the second HTC interface. It became known popularly as TouchFlo3D or TF3D for short.
3. Sense is an update for Manila which includes "location awareness". It has also replaced TF3D as the popular name for Manila since v2.5
So, Manila is still Manila, but it's known popularly as Sense now rather than TF3D?
PS:
The first Manila 2.1 didn't have sense

Hee Hee, that's nonsense then ...
Sorry, Dave, feel free to ban me for life for that dreadful joke
Manila - Finger Friendly Graphic User Interface - this is platform
Touch Flo - The Interface Plug-in for visualization of Manila platform
Sense - the same as Touch Flo but new release
So this is good, in this single thread I am able to get a better understanding of each of the versions of UI.
there also OS versions and I assume that TF3D, Manila, and Sense are bound to min versions?
Microsoft has released the following over the last 18 months:
WM 6.1 - mostly found on non-touch devices but I understand has Touch support
WM 6.5 (Windows Phone branded lunch) - fully Touch aware albeit mostly still has the small buttons like "OK" or "X" or "CLOSE" these are not fingure friendly although the UI does fully support Touch devices.
WM 6.5.1 - NOT RELEASED. this is the name MS us using for an Interim release (between 6.5 and 7.0) this release will fix many bugs and update the UI to with the "Fat Finger" tabs instead of the little "were is my stylus!" buttons. there are a few ROMs out there that have these features and they dramatically improve the usability (IMHO). I am running build 32502.x1 (Shadowline - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=526618&highlight=23502) and also Optimal Champious (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=573896&highlight=23502). the first has Sense, the second does not (no Manila/Sense).
WM 7.0 - NOT RELEASED. According to my Microsoft contacts will be a complete consumer friendly UI. I suspect this is going to be positioned as the optimal iPhone competitor along with a slew of new devices. My thought is the LEO (albeit big) with WM 7.0 will rock. There is no date but I would bet this come out in late summer/fall of 2010. think about MS cycles for other consumer projects. you need to hit the holiday season or wait till next year.
IF you are still running the stock WM 6.5 that came with your ATT Pure, I recommened (but caution if you are not comfortable and know the risk of 'bricking' your phone is possible) that you check out the new builds. 23502.X or greater like OC, Shadowline builds have been running on my devices for almost a week and they are much improved over the stock.
I only wish there was an iphone like (for fat fingers) keyboard out there.
Just to add, there are lots of great keyboards out there and I have tried a couple of them. I am thinking the screen size on the Topaz is the reason why vs. the iphone.

(REQ) Extract HTC Peep as a CAB?

Hello people,
As we all know, hd2 or Manila 2.5 comes with a twitter tab which allows users to view their tweets and update your status. I am wondering if anyone would be able to extract this htc peep application so that we would be able to use it with manila 2.1 and other versions of manila. I really like the usability of the htc peep as compared to many other twitter apps on the market today.
Also, i think it is possible to extract the htc peep as the htc ebook reader has also been extracted from the manila 2.5!
Thank you!
Bertrand Tan
I second the request. Also would this be usable in any other WinMo device running 6.1 (or higher?) Let's say a Palm Treo Pro...?
any update?

TMO US Stock ROM is perfect

Hello, my name is R and I'm an addict, to flashing, that is.
I had the Rhodium until the 24th when the HD2 came out and I was second in line at the store and was the first one out of there with a brand new HD2. (I know, the other lady had issues... lol...)
Anyway, I installed Cookie's Home tab, System SEVEN for push email, Garmin Mobile XT, Quick Menu and Total Commander on the phone, and it has been running better than the Rhodium ever did, even when I installed the cooked ROMs in it, so much so that I'm afraid to flash a cooked ROM on my HD2 and spoil it...
The things that I miss from the cooked ROMs:
1- Excluding the music tab and the pictures tab from rotation (NRG's Rhodium ROMs with Manila 2.5 can do that, and if i install MaxManila I know that it does that too, but I only ever used MaxManila for the extra links on the home tab and Cookie's Home tab does that with less bloat)
2- NRG's theme with the raised windows buttons instead of the flat ones in the Stock ROM.
3- I just read one of the posts below and remembered how sweet threaded emails were on the cooked ROMs, but System SEVEN didn't play nice with any of the 6.5.5 ROMs, and even some of the regular 6.5 ROMs, so I always had to reflash because the ROMs would freeze after a few hours and I would get an "Application Error" message that didn't go away, even uninstalling SEVEN didn't work... Why do I need SEVEN? I have three hotmail accounts, one personal and two business, and POP3 just doesn't work well, at least not with hotmail (or live mail, however you want to call it) and I haven't found anything better than SEVEN for configuring multiple hotmail accounts for push on windows mobile. Kind of lame when you think about it, because hotmail belongs to M$ and WinMo only allows one windows live account, and blackberries allow several windows live accounts, all with push...
Things that never worked on the Cooked ROMs and work perfectly on the stock ROM:
1- Facebook Integration: On the cooked ROMs, facebook integration kind of worked, I could link my favorite contacts to their facebook profiles and get their facebook pictures on my contacts tab, however, whenever they called me I saw their Outlook picture instead of their facebook picture, and I had to manually add the Outlook picture every time or I would get the generic gray avatar picture instead. On the stock ROM, I always see the facebook picture everywhere
2- On all the cooked ROMs that I flashed to the Rhodium, regardless of the version of Manila, I had to go to task manager and terminate outlook all the time because if I went to the email tab and tapped on Inbox and I was on an account other than the one that was open in Outlook (say I opened my hotmail inbox, then went back to the home tab, then back to the email tab and selected the exchange account and tapped on Inbox) Outlook would hang and I would have to restart it all the time. On the Stock ROM it works flawlessly, Outlook never hangs.
3- For the life of me, I never could figure out how to close Total Commander on the 6.5.X ROMs
4- I use Garmin Mobile XT, and while it worked, whenever the main GUI was open, it left a gap on the top between the GUI and the status bar or however you want to call it.
The Stock ROM is so good and stable that I'm not even going to flash anything until the Stock ROM is available to reflash.
Anyone knows how to exclude the music and the pictures tab from rotation (BSB Tweaks Rotation doesn't play well with rotating manila on the stock ROM, however TX_Total_Landscape.cab from the Touch Xtreme ROMs works perfectly), or anyone knows how to modify the default theme and make the windows buttons raised as in the NRG's themes, I would appreciate it if they let me know. (Some will say search the forums, but I've been searching for 6 days now and haven't found anything)
My two cents.
Peace!
Three row Landscape keyboard
When I first got my Rhodium (OK, TMO US HTC Touch Pro2) I loved the landscape keyboard, it only had 3 rows of keys and was very unobtrusive and functional. Then I started flashing and I really really really (as my 5 year old would say) dislike the new landscape EZInput keyboard layout. I have searched and searched endlessly for the original three row keyboard, but I've had no luck, there is one, but it's only for VGA devices, and I did dump my Rhodium ROM, but I haven't found a way to make a cab out of the dumped modules for the original keyboard (or any other modules for that matter), there are a couple of tutorials here and there, and I have followed them, but maybe because I have windows 7 they don't work, or maybe I'm doing something wrong.
Case in point: does anyone know where to get the below keyboard and install it on the HD2?
View attachment 301757
When I first got my HD2, my fingers were all over the place and I couldn't click on anything accurately. I really missed my Rhodium but figured that I would adapt to the new capacitive screen and the HD2 didn't have the "Align Screen" available in its settings. I must say that I was still struggling with it until today that I found this and I was able to align my screen and now I can tap anywhere with great accuracy and my days of missing my Rhodium are gone...
Yet another one
And this is the last one...
I will update this thread with the CABs that I install and the ROMs that I flash, and even the CABs that I make to make my phone run smooth and fast...

People who plan to include a lot of data in their thread and lots of responses usually reserve a space or two on the thread. This is because some forum restrict the size of a post you can make, even editted. So for instance, each post can only be 500 characters and no more. This allows them to include more information (characters) at the beginning of the thread.

This is the one I also might try after a month or week of the stock rom, i'm waiting for us to be able to reflash the stock rom...i don't even have the HD2 US yet but it's coming...and i have tons of cabs ready for it...so I would love the auto-install feature of that rom...but yeah, that facebook picture thing would be big for me as well...and on the stock rom some games lag a tad, so i will be using the 3d driver patch cab. and see if it helps.
I just flashed back to stock myself....I've yet to find a custom ROM that was as bug-free as stock
I just wish they'd release an official 6.5.x update. I'll miss the taskbar on the bottom of the screen, threaded emails, nicer stock apps (I prefer Titanium to Sense)....
stock rom....
does anyone know where to download the stock rom for warranty purposes?

There was a link floating around here right after release. Not sure what happened to it.
You can find the stock rom here, under the Leo 2.10 folder, have flashed it myself after testing a few custom roms:
http://www.4shared.com/dir/22189940/b8552fa0/Shipped_Leo_ROMs.html
I find the stock rom really nice too. However I do wish I had a stock 6.5.X to go with though. I miss a lot of the little things in 6.5.X like threaded email, Start button on the bottom, Beautiful menus, and the general ugly is gone.
Yes, one wonders why HTC released the T-MO HD2 with the old version when they will soon be releasing the so called HD Mini with 6.5.3.
The Stock ROM is nice and suitable for your average Joe but for cell phone enthusiasts it is a memory hog and full of bloatware. That said, it would need to be stripped to be worthy of its own thread.

I have to agree with the bloatware part of your statement. However, every cooked ROM that I used had it's own bloatware. Now, I know this is preference, but for instance, I don't like Opera, I prefer plain old IE, however, Opera is installed in all Cooked ROMs and there is no way to uninstall it. There are several other things that I would take out of every ROM, including the Stock of course, but I just havent have time to learn how to cook myself yet. I will soon, though... matter of fact, I'm dumping my ROM right now and will see how I can manage to "clean it up" a little bit and see what happens...
I'm a cell phone enthusiast myself, or at least I consider my selft to be one. My first Phone was an MDA, then I had a Wing, then the Touch Pro2, and now the HD2, and I flashed and customized each and every one of them...

What HTC messanger version is this?

Does anyone know what version of the HTC messanger is and where I could possibly find a cab file to install it? it's partially installed in the energy rom but when you click all messages it goes back to the default WM one which I don't like, if found the cab for the version that's stock on the HD2 which is of course extremely laggy, this version however is not laggy while keeping the hole contacts linking thing of the HTC messanger.
is there not an update on htc's website?

That's Manilla messaging that is part of the Sense UI. It's not a fully integrated messaging as you will find in Sense 2.5 roms. NRG removes HTC messaging from his roms but that portion of it can still be accessed when using messages from Sense home screen. It's the same thing with Sense 2.1 for TP2 & earlier devices.
There are full HTC messaging .cabs available in the apps & themes forum, look for the HTC Messaging 2014 thread, but it's not going to look like that.

HD2 roms without HTC Messaging or with a replacement

I'm a super-heavy texter, and the HTC app for text messages is horribly slow, even when i dont have many texts saved... I know there are some roms that do not have it, is the standard windows mobile application really faster? or is there some better alternative?
Could anyone sugest good ROMs with a messaging application other that the HTC one?
Thanks

Is there not a way to just install standard WM messaging on the stock rom? I'm quite happy on stock but I'm not crazy about the HTC messaging either.
OMG, HTC Msg is so horrible. You can have more 100 sms. From 50 onwards you starting to feel something wrong!

Yes you can:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=556614
And to answer OP's question - Yes, it is very fast
However, if you want HTC msg, you can do use MyPhone to archive sms. Trying to keep around 50 sms each time. This has been working well for me!
Here's another one... Miri's HD2 series.

Much better when HTC messaging is not included in the rom... text messages sync properly with Exchange 2010 and the unread bubble is always correct.
Try my roms :d no htc messaging, hosted on vbn and ul.to, tmous and non tmous compatible
