It looks like a Hero body with an Evo screen. I still like the Evo better, it whole face is screen/glass

I mainly like the back of the desire. Instead of a battery door you have a slot for everything. Just would be neat.

It also has the adreno 205 gpu which is 4x faster than our 200, which is all good. We'll get the 220 when upgrade season comes around .

I am afraid to see the Phone boom. Just like the computer boom. 3 month and its already out dated. It is just like the HTC Hero, it hasnt even been year and its outdated.

The hero was just a bad phone in general, in my opinion. I have only used one for more than 5 minutes, but it was just sooooo laggy. I had to put it down.
As far as outdated goes, i will rock this phone for 2 years no problem.

My Evo is a little over 3 months old and I don't consider it outdated at all. Just because something isn't the absolute latest model doesn't make it stop working. The Hero is like a year old and even that is only considering the Sprint version. It had the same hardware class as some of the much older HTC phones like the Magic, etc. and was not much better than the G1 spec-wise.
When the Hero came out it was already dated really. That's why I didn't buy one. When I got my yearly upgrade I swapped my Pre for an Evo since it was a big enough jump to justify $200. Honestly I like having a sizeable jump in performance every year or so because it means I can use my yearly upgrade for something worthwhile. I don't bother using it if the only thing available is a minor improvement.

Should i get the HTC Evo

I am thinking of getting this phone but if heard some bad things about it. ive had non stop issues with phones since the HTC mogul. i had the HTC mogul replaced 9 times due to keyboard failures, then HTC touch they sent me and HATED it, then they sent me HTC touch pro and it was decent but had it replace 23 times due to keyboard issues even after the redesign of them. then i got the palm pre and after the 3rd replacement they gave me a HTC Hero which i love. but i dont like how slow it is tho but the style and sense system i really like..
so is getting the HTC evo a good idea?

Why don't you tell us what you're looking for in a phone. There are a few really nice phones coming out in the upcoming months. Do you have to be on Sprint?

but... there are issues with a small portion of these phones..
and with your luck with htc..you will find all of them.. or they will find you!
normally i tell people to get th evo... but you... i hesitate.

with verizon i had 39 replacements in 2 years (i broke the front screen of one of those phones, everything else wasn't my fault) Since switching to sprint i had one replacement since june.

If you liked the Hero you will love the Evo has all of the features and so much more, plus FASTER!
Go for it, there is always the 30 day return option.

lol the 23 replacements were with in 6 month's. they were internal issues. i always use a case, screen protectors. i am very careful with these phones since there so damn expensive
im looking for something as close to the Hero as possible. ive heard alot of good about the Evo, but also alot of bad.

I have never had to replace a phone -- I guess that's just me though. All I know is that if I ever had that much trouble with a phone maker, I would never again buy their product.
Edit: I have never had an issue with my Evo and I have done a lot of flashing. I have also switched 10 of my friends to an Evo and the only complaint has been battery life - which was easily handled with rooting.

i really enjoy the HTC phones and the things i can do with them. and with the android system im am very pleased. i just always get lemons. im not exactly on the lucky side lol. but i have had no issues with the HTC hero. only issue i screw up loading a new rom and it locked the phone up but i fixxed it.

I had a hero before my evo too. I loved that phone to death, but it was so damn slow. So when the evo came out I got it, and ive only had 1 replacement since july because the phone broke inside. Overall this phone is amazing. I dont have any problems with battery and the phone is super fast. Definitely get this phone!!!

@ Maximiano, i kno i keep going back to HTC but its the style of them i like. im bound to get a good one eventually and the hero has worked so far. as for the battery..... im use to it. the palm pre had a HORRID battery life. i was lucky to make it 4 hours out of the few i had.

Well I think the battery on the Evo is good. I unplug my phone at 6am every day and plug it in at 10pm every day. At 6pm im at 50% so this phone holds up durring the day. As for use:
30 mins of calling
50 txt
5 emails
20 mins of internet
Angry birds 20 mins
(Angry birds ****s on the battery)

Honestly i say yes. The Evo feels good, its fast. Even stock sense isn't that bad. You have the option to root your phone, can stay on a sense rom, and with different kernels, you can make your phone perform faster. The Evo is all touch, so no keyboard to replace.

lol angry birds rules. its so slow on the hero. but by the sounds of it. seems like its about the same life as my hero.
i do:
50-200 txt messaging.
15 emails
2 hours of music/movies
15 min-30 min of talk time.
15min-1 hour of a game. (zenonia, angry bird, ect.)

lol im sick of keyboard replacing. i miss how fast i use to be with a pull out keyboard but i been doing well with a touch screen. and that swype ive seen seems interesting. but thank you for the tips

The EVO is an amazing device and you wont go wrong by getting it. The stock software is passable but we have an awesome development community here and a TON of great ROMs to choose from. That being said, im sure Sprint will be releasing its successor come summertime so if you can stand it, i would wait to see whats coming out. 22 months is a long time to wait for an upgrade so you'll be kicking yourself if you buy the EVO now only to have the EVO2 (or whatever it will be called) come out a few months into your new contract.

i kno of a few phones coming out later and 1 of them i guess has a duo core processor by the sounds of it. but i dont need nothin super fast. just something alot faster than the hero and the evo seems to be good. just was curious if it was a good idea. some of the replies here have helped me too. thank you all. i probably will be picking it up next week.

Death of a Hero :( Hello EVO

Hello everyone! I have been a die hard hero user since the hero was released. I loved that little guy and thanks to all of you here at xda, my Hero was the funnest "phone" I have ever had.
Oh well you can't stop EVO-lution right? hahahaha OMG I love my EVO even more than I first loved my Hero!
Shout to Koni for making my Hero Hot back in the day(a year ago hahaha) and now making my EVO Elite.

I loved my Hero, it was revolutionary just like the EVO is/was. It's funny though, you didn't think the Hero was slow until you used the EVO

In two months, it will be May... You might as well wait an extra 30~60 days and get the Evo's (or the Epic's) successor.

I came here from a Hero as well. I upgraded to the Evo and gave my Hero to my girlfriend. When she had me look at her phone for some reason I suddenly realized how small the Hero was. There's no way I could go back now. LOL

Welcome to what is probably the best section of the forums I've ever been to (coming from T-Mobile and their MyTouch Slide and G2 forums here). The death of your hero is a travesty and we shall all mourn it's passing.
I am also an occasional Elite user (I flash back and forth between that and MikFroyo), the guy does some great work.

Retirement

I am sad to say that my hero is now going to be retired. The screen somehow broke and now only the bottom half works. Goodbye hero, you will be missed. T.T

I was kinda sad also they day I retired my hero.. ( didnt break,, just moved on ).. Right now its my 8 yr old's angry birds slash mp3 player..

I was so sad to see mine go... it was two days ago. I love my evo but my hero was great....

WOW Such development still going on XD

I'd just like to say WOW - I had a HTC Hero GSM (G2 touch i guess as I am from the uk and it was on tmo ) I've now got a desire, but you know what I actually miss the hero, it was my little Hero - I had it running faster (appearance - not clock speed) than the wildfire and the wildfire S (I used to tease my mates about it LOADS) I loved that little thing. Ok so I like the desire, its got better hardware yes, but I really dont care, and I'm glad we are getting ICS going on it, but at the end of the day its just a phone now. My ikkle Hero was never just a phone to me it was a HERO
Anyway I just decided to pop my head in and see if any1 was still developing for it, and wow am I surprised! it's got loads of people still keeping that awesome phone going! my congrats to the devs too for starting to look at ICS for the Hero! and to everyone else who it keeping it going.... I am impressed, and wish I had never given the hero to my g/f (now ex who bloody sold it for £50 -____- ).
I guess this thread has no real purpose... I just wanted to say well done people, and dont put your Hero down coz others have "better" phones, its all perspective. For the hardware the Hero has, it does so so sooooooo well.

Some weeks ago my Desire just broke and I had to switch back to my old Hero.
I allways was interested in CustomRoms but never switched because I didnt wanted to lose warranty. But with the Hero already being out of warranty I started trying out Roms
Just great what the community is able to do with that hardware. So much better than the manufacturers rom. Current, faster and more functions build in.
If my desire wouldnt be repaired I would happily stay with the Hero.
But now I think I will give it to my g/f
