I phoned O2 up the other day and asked them to enable WAP/GPRS on my phone which they did and asked them for all the settings to connect to websites and such, which they did and it all worked great apart from 2 programs what i wanted to use on my xda2 wont connect
First i tried MSN and that didnt work so i did a search on google and found out that a patch was needed from microsoft. I downloaded, installed and it still didnt work. Then i tried Pocket IRC (not made by microsoft so i thought it mite work) but it didnt, so i thought i would come on here and pester you lot and see if you knew if this was a common problem or if its something that i'v done...
thanks in advance,
Skillz
thats because the above programs use ports, you only get port 80 off o2.. for the internet. Theres no way to make it work
well whats the point in having the program there if we can use it
isnt there a hack of some sort that will allow me to use more ports than 80?
You can use MSN, PIRC etc with the XDA II, but it wont work over the WAP network. You have to use the MobileWeb APN, which should already be configured by the O2 Active system as the Internet Connection (as opposed to WAP, which is designated the "work" connection), but you need to make sure that the APN is enabled on your SIM card- another call to customer services!
You could also try Agile Messenger or even ChatToGo which supports all the messaging systems, but has a small subscription charge.
Hi, was wondering if anyone can help me setup blackberry on my o2mini..
I have upgraded to the latest ROM which claims to have blackberry function.
But i have no idea how to make it work to start receiving my pop mails..
can anyone help me ><
i am with vodafone if that helps...
Just pop into a Vodafone store and they will help you set it up...you will have to go on a plan (not prepaid)
u sure they can help me set it up?
i remember going in before enquiring about blackberry for O2mini and they said its not suported officially..?
Would the setting up blackberry procedure the same as other ones?
i'll go in and ask them then
thanks
From memory I think you'll have to go onto the $49 data plan to use blackberry since they now charge $1 per 5 mins of GPRS connectivity.
Nearly makes me want to switch back to Telstra..... nearly
yay~~~
now its working~
basically you need to have BB account with your provider (pay service)
and setup account thru their website.
You will need your device's IMEI/PIN number
and POP3 email address + passwords and thats all!!!

I'm wondering whether this is still working for you ... according to this thread, the folks at Blackberry kick you off after a few days if the BB Connect client does not match the ROM's original network ...
PS. i have read alot of discussions on here about getting it to work properly... just to let you all know, if your PIN number for your blackberry client meant for another network.... blackberry themselves will cut of the traffic to your pin number... although this may take a week or so for it to cut off. The network you are with will not know this has happened hense you will get no help from them. This is a LICENSING issue... tech support advisors will not have this within thier network's published information.

Is it still working for you?
Yes its still working for me - with vodafone.
The only thing its not promised to do as a proper BB device is not been able to receive the emails straight away at occassionally.
Also, if you have the USB plugged in the BB email gets disabled automatically untill u unplug it.
I upgraded to the T-Mobile ROM 1.3.
Didnt do the big storage patch as i got lost in the middle of the tutorial and couldnt be bothered... ;p (BUT still have about 20mb original storage)
Also the post about BB checking mismatches probably only applys when ppl install the O2mini 1.3 ROM --> O2miniPro..
Otherwise i cant think of anything that i did more to make it work continueous.
Voda BB unlimited plan is $49 month i think.

Thanks for the info. In any event, work won't allow me to use my O2 for this - not a secure enough device, according to them.
BTW, I did the bigstorage thing ... very straightforward if you follow the 8 steps at the bottom of this page.
well thats too bad ><~
But about the security issue.. i m sure if the hackers really wants to get in your email they will always figure a way..
If you company uses a work server + sercurity + firewalls + whatever then probably YES it will be insecure compare to BB but then you cant use your email unless you at work... guess that the trade off..
With the Vodafone:
What happen is they give you a <[email protected]> which the settings etc links to your BB device - O2mini.
So whatever emails in the inbox there will be on your device.
To setup you have to 'nominate'/add your various pop3 accounts to make it PULL emails from them to the this <[email protected]>.
Hope this clarify some of the ideas the technology uses for you newbies like myself ;p

Wish I could fix up our internal policy issues!
More seriously, does anyone know of any document that I could provide to our IT people that would convince them that the BB Connect software (running on the O2 mini) will not be a risk for the Blackberry Enterprise Server (and related systems)?

The issue is not really with BB Connect. The issue is that with Blackberry devices, the IT department can force a profile onto the Blackberry device and set up policies that cannot be overriden. Eg, they can set a policy that the device will ask for a password after 5 minutes of inactivity. This however cannot be done with a PDA running BB Connect.
Other examples of policies that they cannot enforce:
- Internet usage (web browsing, ssh'ing etc)
- Installation of software (games, etc)
Have you guys had any luck getting this working with Optus.
I have been trying to get it going for about 3 days now and am about to put it into the to hard basket.
Hi all,
I got it all installed and got my email address and 'the activation" password from my IT department. We use Blackberry Enterprise server.
There is no place for me to enter that information in the settings, any idea?
Thanks,
Eric.
anyone can help me...?
when i want to upgrade the ROM, there an error message "Country ID error". then what should i do...?
BLACKBERRY WORKING INOPTUS SETUP

Is anyone able to tell me if Blackberry is going to work on a Polaris? And what's the difference (if any) between Blackberry Service & Blackberry Connect.
Basically I want to be able to use the Polaris with my corporate BB server.
Thanks in advance for any help with this.

Plz, dont ask anything concerning BB in this forum... u r really off topic.
HTC has push email (and contacts, pim, etc...) like BB. Just check here:
https://secure.europe.htc.com/en/htcmail/index.html
So the answer is: YES, u can act your HTC like u can do on a BB
Anyone still using HTCmail after the trial period? I can't seem to find how much it costs.

I think the question is valid. I have had a PDA for years and have moved through different version of device and OS. I love the features you get (including stylus/touchdrive screen) the ability to add many applications/themes and even upgrade to new roms etc not to mention Tomtom/GPS and push email from exchange.
I love the exchange push but my company are against it as they have been blackberry for a while and are worried about security/viruses and control of devices.
I recently was given a Blackberry from work which just turns out to be a basic phone with email...they work great but i cannot do much else. I have no memory expansion, MP3 player, not much decent addon applications, rubbish themes and no touch screen.
I would love to take the sim with its data tariff and put it in my Wizard or Universal or even my old XDA2 and use it for the blackberry service. I cant use it for excahnge push a it is disabled at the corporate end and if it was available would cost a fortune as the blackberry GPRS tariff charges extra for any data not going over blackberry.
I am stuck with 2 devices where I would dearly like to have one. That one would not be a blackberry but a fantastic WM6, touch screen, Satnav, Audio player, Camera, media viewer, media streamer from my home PC, media streamer from the internet over Wifi or GPRS, web browser, bluetooth stereo headset, voice dialing.....oh, and email from blackberry connect with my company SIM would be nice.
I think I am getting a bit bitter about this.........Sorry for the rant....I realy want Blackberry Connect V4 on my wizard.
Sorry if this is the wrong thread (mods, feel free to delete/move or tell me where I *should post), but . . .
HTC Mail is no good for me as it costs money. My company wants to give me a Blackberry but, like OhtwoXCDA2, I want a 'real' device. So, I'm hoping that the free BB Connect will allow me to get mail from my corporate Blackberry Enterprise Server to the Polaris.
And, to answer my own post, a friend who knows about this stuff assures me that you can simply install BB Connect on a WM6 device, enter the PIN fom the BES and everything will be rosey.
Confirmation from anyone else would be nice.
p.s. there's also a thread going on here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=360114
Blackberry Mobile definitely works with the Kaiser, so I can't see any reason (by looking at the specification comparison to the Polaris) why it would not work on the Polaris.

Hi all,
I just bought an HTC Universal. Till now I had an old Wallaby and I thought it would be time to get up to date and join the great new future of mobile devices. Since the Xperia X1 is not on the market yet I decided to buy this Universal for the meantime. I didn't want to wait anymore.
Now I think I'll have go back to the old times
I couldn't believe it but it seems to be completely impossible to keep some files in sync without a cable these days!!!
Am I the only person on the world who wants to edit a simple Word document while I'm on the road?! Shouldnt that be the most basic mobility you would expect from such a device these days?!
Is it possible that even with the expensive evel Exchange Server you can't sync files, only contacts, calenders and appointments?!
If anybody has a solution or alternative or workaround PLEASE tell me! I was searching for days now and didn't find anything
Bluetooth is always a possibility.
1.: When I say "on the road" I'm not talking about 10 meters away from my Workstation. To walk around in a circle of ten meters is not mobility for me
2.: Bluetooth (XP)+Activesync doesn't work with Ranjus last ROM. Only with other ROMs which then don't allow to run Skype. So I had to decide: Skype or Bluetooth.
Hi there,
I think you got something wrong;
1. Exchange Active Sync is ONLY Exchange Active Sync.
So need to put your word document in an email as attachment. This is NOT Filesync. Never was ...
What you need to do is accessing your network via GPRS/UMTS ... (e.g. vpn) and browse a network share, get a document and edit it. Beware, this means an enourmous amount of data to be transfered. Be sure to have a mobile flatrate.
2. Though Bluetooth isn't an option for you, you should not complain about roms you decided to use on your own. Go and get the original rom. You can use Bluetooth AND Skype with it.
BTW: Xperia will NOT solve your problem, you definitely need vpn for what you want to do. Or, sync your files via bluetoth while in the office and edit on the road. Send back to the office by mail ...
Best regards,
Yea, use a VPN or use a FTP or use another HostingTool.
I use my own FTP with ssl, works well fine with Resco Explorer+FTP Plugin,TotalCommander Mobile,Orneta FTP,....

As our senior member wrote earlyer,it is a truly amazing app.
Besides my problem,(happen to me) the program is working in EU or other modern countrys.Dubai is back in time with 20years in the communication yet.
The fantastic thing in Fring is that you belive it or not>> you don t need a sim card in your phone to use it!!
I advise you gyus to look at the youtube or google for the Fring videos!!You can be pretty surprised with the outcome!
Well,you def. need a strong wifi connection.!!!With 3G I don t guarantee full satysfaction!
Don t forget the phone specific download. On the Fring site, you need to find your own download cab.!

hmmm, just tried it, but it isn't very finger friendly... and no option to hide offline contacts....... it's got potential, but lacks user friendlyness
I just gave it another try too - and it still has the same annoying alert sound when receiving a chat msg! I can't find anyway to disable or change it other than muting my sound altogether with. If there was an option to change or disable the sound I might use it.
Skype or one of the others?
Thanks for the post.
So which is best and cheapest if I want to call
my folks thru fring to their cell phone, (but not smartphone): skype? Where can I find a comparison
of pros and cons between the different voice data internet systems? (I have a full data plan thru T-mobile, and use a Trinity wm5.)

is there a way to use fring with 3g WAP access?
in other words, for port 8080 only?

Doesnt it work over GPRS? 3G? or WAP?... so it only works on wireless or while connected via activesync? O_O
starnge but happy
Heyyyahh All!
so many question about FRING.Why noone take a sneek wiev on youtube,or google, but the best is the Fring website.Planty answers, and even more pics films e.t.c are there.
When I met with this program first,I needed a free or at least cheap communication in Dubai!sorry FROM Dubai!Back to EU!
On 3G ,it works badly if you call your Mom!On wifi it needs a good signal.GPRS sometimes ok,but most of the week signals are just fine for chat!
The best option is to configure the SIP client. If you have voipbuster,it is easy!Check out the data on theyer website, and you can see what country is free to call?!!!!On the otherhand it is always free from computer 2 computer!!Or from Fring to another Fring user!
There is no cheaper tan FREE!!!!!
The annoying beep is there in the msg client. With the system sounds and noticication you can fine tune it.It is visible with HTC and some fresh Rom s !!
It is the IM client sounds in the notification setup. In the system setup tabell!
The connection is buffling stable on wifi, and it was specialy fantastic at the airports!!!Good to say helo I m alive for free!!The option to chat in the same time wit 6 different chat client is just great.
well: look at the website, and learn as I did.Find som wifi and Fring away!!!
