Hey guys
Was bored so rooted my phone the other day (thanks to everyone who's posted help files on here ) but now 1.6 has been released in the UK, I want the update. I've found a guide on how to unroot but it only provides links to the US files - any idea where I can get the original G1 1.5 UK ROM to flash back to stock (and, if neccessary, the recovery, too?)
Thanks
Thinking about it, I guess I could follow the guidance to root my phone (not using the 1-click method) but then it would take hours to get back to 1.5 and then 1.6 and, persumably, wipe my data (not ideal but if neccessary...)
Why not flash a 1.6 ROM?
Im using Cyanogen 4.1.999, thats 1.6 ish

Exactly what Adrian said. Why not go to a 1.6 rom on here.
Also Adrian aint you suppose to be in school. It's a lil early to see you on here.

Hello I just received a un-rooted mytouch but it is stuck on 1.5 even though the previous user has been using it on the network for the past few months. Is there somewhere I can download the latest official 1.6 update to flash onto this device?
just one click root it and flash a donut rom. It will only take like 15 minutes, and with everything else that you will be able to do with it, it would definitely be worth it.
Manually install 1.6 update on mytouch:

I tried these instructions but get an error when attempting to flash. Also the ROM he has linked is only 20mb?
is that link the REAL official t-Mobile Donut 1.6 update?? I dont understand why there are not numerous links and sources to the update, I need the real update cause i am test driving the phone, I wanna root it and try it thaqt way, but eventually in a few days im gonna have to give it back to my buddy, he already was buggin about my rooting it, i mean i guess if decide to buy it thats one thing, but i would like to bring it back to Official 1.6 status if not
Its weird usually when anykind of firmware or operating system is releaseed everyone has tons of dwnload links and various sources to get it, but i mean its weird i can only find that one link thats posted above?? I see there is a stock build here in XDA, but says a few tweaks but generally stock, im curious if I need to have the phone rooted to even install that ROM?? this ROM here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=549755
go to the t-mobile forums there is a guide for this, here is a link DIRECTLY TO THE GUIDE FOR MANUALLY UPDATING TO 1.6

Hi everyone!
I'm new to all this rooting - have a HTC Hero that is now my 'second' phone since I have recently upgraded to the Galaxy S. I would like to know what is the best guide out there to root my HTC Hero/G2 Touch to load a custom ROM - as i'd like to start using the latest 2.2 Froyo update.
P.S My firmware is currently 1.5 and I have build number 2.73.110.26 on T-Mobile (UK)
If anyone could put me in the right direction i'd be very appreciative - might be a good idea (if not already been done) to create a sticky guide for rooting the hero phone as it seems very common.
Thanks in advance!
p.s i'm not a noob to computers but rooting phones is a new thing to me - so forgive me if i ask a few questions

IMO the guide here is the best:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645253
Mainly because it is written by me............
But other than that - its probably the most up to date and quickest method available at the moment. I hope it helps and i'm on hand if anything doesn't go to plan (rare).
I second that, that's definitely the best guide on here.

Cheers dude! Thanks i will give that a whirl soon
Hi,
I am a Hero user since day one. I rooted my phone back then with one of the early methods. I had to manually chmod stuff and copy over files or something like this, I don't remember exactly.
Now I haven't followed the root/mod/rom world anymore, but want to install a new rom now.
Do I have to re-root my phone with a new method? Should I reset anything?
I'm a little confused with all the roms - i just want to use a stable froyo 2.2 - which rom would you recommend I go for (I am using a UK T-Mobile phone)
Cheers

It is recommended to have the latest custom recovery installed before flashing a new ROM. So if you turn off your phone, then hold HOME + POWER to boot into the recovery, you should get some writing come up at the bottom. The latest Amon Ra is 1.7 I think.
But apart from that, you can just put the new ROM onto your SD, then flash through the recovery, easy.

FroydVillain 1.5? I haven't updated from 1.4.4 yet but will definitely be doing so this evening.
EDIT.... Also there is that Fusion ROM,... Give that one a try aswel, try to run them for 48hours to get a good feel for the two.
Well i've been waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting.... for telus to release the official 2.1 but it seems that that's never going to happen so now I want to root my hero. Since i'm new to rooting my question is which ROM would you guys recommend, I want the one that's the same as the Sense UI 2.1 that would be on the hero if telus wasn't retarded. There are so many ROMs I can't figure out which one is which so if you guys could help it would be appreciated
You can upgrade the Telus Hero to 2.1 without rooting. I did mine the other day.
It will be the unbranded WWE 2.1 ROM

I have not seen this anywhere, do you have a link and just to clarify I have the TELUS hero does it work on this phone.
Once you've installed a recovery rom you can try all the rom's you want. You can switch between then in about 5 minutes or so, so its really easy to try out lots. My guide will allow you to gain root access and install a custom recovery. See my sig for a link.
Kk, Ive been looking more and I think that VillainRom 12 is the best for me anyway

It is probably the best place to start IMHO.

Just picked up the dell streak from Rogers ... and going to upgrade to dj steve's build 1.3. Before I even attempt to do this I am trying to find info. on how to backup the stock recovery.
I can not find any information on how to backup the stock recovery... I have not seen the stock recovery for download with this build 1.6 build 7921 either.
I would like to do this just incase I have to put the phone back to stock to return the device... so if some one can point me in the right direction that would be great.
I thought fastboot would help me in my quest to backup the stock recovery but nothing that I can see would do such a thing.
The other thing is I have not seen 1.6 build 7921 stock rom either so I would assume that I need to install clockwork recovery and backup my rom using nandroid?
I believe these are the only 2 things I need if something messes up and I need to return the phone back to stock?
Thanks,
chunkd
Anyone?

BUMP ~ in the same boat here, want to be able to downgrade back to 1.6 and upgrade with the ota update when it becomes available. Anyone?
same boat..
i cant get the build 7921 to the O2 build either
I am on rogers. no problems doing it. it took a while for me to figure it out. basically you have to go to o2 1.6 then up to 2.1.. then 2.2.
I have also successfully downgraded back to 1.6 (when i was on 2.1). But there is no reason to ever want to run an official dell build when steve's builds are so much better.

how did you get onto O2 1.6? any guide that will work from 7921? thanks
I followed one of the guides on here. you should find a 1.6 US to 1.6 O2 guide somewhere. The thing that screwed me up was getting the right drivers for windows. that was a biggie. took me a few hours of reading to finally figure it out.
http://android.modaco.com/content/d...-dell-streak-android-1-6-with-online-kitchen/
this might help. i cooked my own custom 1.6 rom before upgrading to 2.1. I had a problem with the flashing buttons because i had my baseband mixed up. so downgrading back to 1.6 with a custom firmware fixed it. then i updated to 2.1.
then i flashed this:
http://android.modaco.com/content/d...r-the-dell-streak-android-2-1-online-kitchen/
read through the thread. for both flashes you require a specific recovery utility. and the corresponding baseband. And some knowledge of fastboot and installing a custom recovery menu.
There is a bit of a learning curve but once you set it up flashing new updates is a 5 minute procedure.
I wish i can sort out all of the exact files used but i downloaded so many different ones trying to get my streak going and i am now unsure of the exact files used. It just took me a lot of trial and error. Also got stuck in the boot loop a few times...
there is lots of threads on here. i suggest you do lots of reading. it took me a good solid 12 hours of playing around to finally get it going. mind you i am completely new to android phones and flashing... Believe me i was frustrated quite a few times thinking i bricked my phone. But be patient and do lots of reading.
sorry i can't help anymore then that.
I just send my SGS in for repairs and got a HTC legend as a loaner...
I read through some of the threads but going to a new phone its hard to find how the process of putting roms are done on it...
Is it like this SGS where i can put a custom rom and when im about to send the phone back i can restore to stock? I'd like to try froyo but i'd also like to be able to go back to stock so they can take it back
Froyo is now available for Legend with an update, no need for root to try out Android 2.2.

Firmware version 2.1-update1
Thats 2.1 isn't it? Software update "no updates available"
I just wanted to try some of the custom roms here to make things speedy and comfortable.. but i wanted to make sure i could undo it before sending it back.
Oh okay, I've got the update on my Legend though...
I have been trying out some custom Froyo roms, I then went back to stock 2.1 RUU when the phone needed a repair thru waranty, and then updated to the original 2.2 update. So it is possible to go back and unroot it, yes. But I'm not sure what the chances are that you won't be able to unroot. Look around in this forum, im sure there is alot of discussions about unrooting...

I have a found a guide on unrooting...
I'm just confused on many steps -- I've come from SGS which is pretty easy to do everything on...
I need to downgrade, root, upgrade, mess about and if i want to send back. downgrade again, unroot then upgrade to 2.2?
My question is, all this is possible right? unrooting in the end gives you stock rom + no root...
So what I'm wondering, where do i find the stock rom? (this is a bell phone)
Once i find stock rom everything else should be findable from what i've read..
I just need to know how to hold my stock rom right now so when i upgrade i don't lose it and when i send it back i can restore it...
Will this work through CWR?
Stock ROMs for Legend can be found on the shipped-roms website. The stock one you need for Bell can be found here:
