Hello all,
I followed the instructions provided on the cyanogen website to upgrade to 4.1.999 on my tmobiel my touch.
However once I got to the last step and needed to go to console and hit enter, I can not hit enter on my my touch!!!
I tried to hold down menu and all the buttons but nothing. The screen is just stuck in this position.
If I just take out the battery, will I brick the phone. WHAT CAN I DO???
DUDE YOUR PHONE IS DONE FOR!
Figured I would make you sweat a bit. Pull the battery and reboot holding home and power. Reflash just 4.1.999 file and reboot. This should go in the general section.
seriously
he posted the same thing in the tmobile forums, word for word

I have spent the last few hours searching. I flashed the recovery-ra-heroc and let it set for a few minutes, reboot recovery, and it just sits on the black screen with "HTC" I remove the battery, restart the phone while holding down the home button (yes, holding it down firmly, lol), and it just gives me the option to clear storage on my phone. I am really wanting to get a rom on my phone, speed it up. Yes, I used the search function on this forum. I really dont want to go back to the RUU and lose everything on my phone. If anyone has any suggestions, I would be extremely greatful!!!
I would try rooting it again and follow the process step by step. Sounds like something wasnt done in the process.

Sounds like you should try to reflash recovery. I think you are only getting into fast boot. You aren't holding any other key with Home are you?
That sometimes happens to me...i just click on the green/call button to cancel n when the htc screen comes up i push Home n End...n hold it down..sometimes let go of it n push them again and it'll work...not sure, but i think this just happens with the newer recovery image.
no, not holding any other keys. I rooted a while back with the chuckrhizco (or whatever?) method, and had no issues. went back to stock to get ota update. I still have the old recovery image, think I will just try to flash that one.
just had an issue withthe other recovery image. Flashed the 1.2.3. and it worked, nandroid backing up now!
as easy as every forum makes it seem to do a nandroid back up, i found these instructions. just have a question on them:
1. Boot into Recovery Mode* by turning off your device then powering it on while holding Power+Home.
2. If you should get a triangle icon with an exclamation point, hit ALT + L to get to the menu.
3. Once in Recovery Mode, select "Create Nandroid backup." This will create a folder on your sdcard named "nandroid."
4. Wait for it to complete.
Having a hero, i have no keyboard to hit ALT + L.
anyone have a link to a thread that makes nandroid backup itself easy?

Those are old, if you get the exclamation point you aren't rooted. Hold the home button while turning the phone on, then the phone will boot in recovery after that just follow the on screen menu's there very self explanatory.
If you stuck stop and post again and I'll help.
Um I don't know were u got those from but that's wrong u just power down hold home and power for like 10 or 15 seconds then ur in recovery once there choose backup& restore then hit nand backup or u can hold down the volume down key and press the power bottom this will take u to a white screen once there hit the home button and wait like 10 or 15 sec and ur recovery should show up and then just repeat what I said above for making a nandroid backup once in recovery if ur seeing a triangle with a exclamation mark I think u have to reroot again

damn. im 100% positive im rooted, and all it keeps doing is showing the red triangle with the exclamation point that i cant get past.
sorry about the old directions, ive been looking everywhere for nandroid backup directions. it sounds so easy, but im running into this problem.
How are you 100% postive ur rooted I'm puzzled????

a friend of mine emailed me the qr code for universal androot, i followed the instructions, he then said to install busy box which gave me super user permission, and busybox itself recognized that my phone is rooted. im assuming its correct?

You goto adb and type adb shell. and then type su do you see a # or $ in the prompt. If you see a pound you have root you just need to flash an custom recovery.
Yup ur right have u set up adb???

I downloaded squidly's new rom and then i downloaded a kangerade theme, now know they obviously don't mix. My phone will turn on and act normal and then restart and keep going through a boot loop. Is there anything I can do? Please let me know right away, I'm kind of new to droid 2 since i just switched from a D1 please help.
You will most likely have to SBF. did you do a nandroid before installing the theme?
I do, but I don't know how to sbf, I have nanadroid, but to be honest i probably messed my phone up even more because I did a factory reset (X and power button, search bar.) I get into the android set up screen and Kangerade is STILL on... It does the continuous loop again...

Try these steps first.
Code:
1. Pull your Battery.
2. Replace battery and power on while holding down the X key.
3. Wait for the android triangle to load.
4. Press the Search key (the magnifying glass)
5. Use down arrow and navigate to wipe cache partition and press OK.
6. Use down arrow and navigate to wipe data and press OK.
7. Reboot phone.
If this does not get you out of the bootloop you will need to SBF. Please see this thread:

Thanks, it didn't work, I'll try that thread hopefully I can get it all figured out still a little confused though. Thanks for the help.
Hello All,
I've been looking on the site for hours and can't figure this out. Hopefully someone can help me.
Sorry if this is a similar post to someone else but after reading lots of post none helped me out.
I just got a Motorola Atrix 4g unlocked and tried to update the OS from the offical site using their software and when it was almost finished the Atrix rebooted and not is stuck in a boot loop where it gets to the pulsing M logo then restarts.
I'm not sure what to do and not too familar with rooting or anything i just tried to use the offical site software so i wouldn't have issues and bang i got F up. hopefully someone can help me out.
Thanks in advance.
Exactly the same thing happened to me yesterday. I asked someone on the motorola support forums and he helped me like this: first you need to do an external hard reset. Here are the instructions but there is a small variation once you get to the triangle/android screen, because in gingerbread you are supposed to do this: "Instead of tapping the lower right corner of the screen push both volume up and volume down buttons at the same time for the recovery menu.
Then, instead of tapping "OK", use the power button to confirm."
To perform an External Manual Reset of your handset to restore to factory settings, read instructions below and then perform.
Power off the phone, press and hold volume down button, press power button.
Screen will come up with "Fastboot", press Vol down key to cycle through choices until you get "Android Recovery", then press Vol up key
Wait for the "triangle ! / Android" screen
Tap on bottom right corner of the screen (may take a few times). a menu will come up
Tap on "wipe data/factory reset", and tap OK. Another Confirmation screen will come. Tap Yes and OK
After userdata is cleared, the "reboot system now" option will be highlighted by Default. Tap OK.
Phone will reboot to initial setup MOTOBLUR screen.
I hope this will help. It saved my phone yesterday. On the other hand, welcome to the world of gingerbread bugs and glitches...
oh and never use official updates in the phones settingz it will.f stuff up k
i went to the darkside today
3.1.2 +1.4elite
Thanks for the help I some how got it back up and running and now its at 2.3.4 from 2.2.2 so i'm happy.
No matter how many times I have tried, the combination of Vol Down+Home+Power together does nothing, the phone just continues to load normally, I cannot access download mode.
My S5 (G900F) is on Android 6.0.1, which was the last software update for the phone, I would like to try 7(Nougat) but can't get anywhere near rooting or flashing.
The phone functions fine as it is, but for the last ?? Years I have used Windows Phones so android of quite alien to me but more preferable than apple. I would like to check out what's available in different builds.
anyone any ideas why it won't let me in, USB is enabled and it is in developer mode.
It can be a bit fiddly to do when you're starting off. What I normally do is press and hold in order volume down, home and then power. The boot wont start unless you press the power button so what this does is ensure that the other 2 are pressed by the time you press the power button. Only stop holding all 3 buttons down when it boots into download mode. Hope this helps

It doesn't work, That is what I have been doing, The Galaxy s5 screen appears, I keep holding, it disappears, vibrates and re-appears, I keep holding and it disappears again, vibrates and re-appears, it does this 5 times before I get fed up and release the power button and then the other 2, it then goes into the Samsung screen and continues loading, sometimes it goes to the "Optimising Apps" mode with the two spinning cogs before finishing the load sequence.
Thanks for the suggestion but it's not playing as it should.

Weird...
Plan B - Do you have ADB installed on your computer? link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979 (for windows install just in case you don't have it - if you have a Mac or Linux, you'll have to look for it).
Get familiar with ADB if not already: https://www.androidpit.com/how-to-install-adb-and-fastboot
Open command prompt (on windows), enter the command "adb reboot recovery" . It should boot into recovery.
The usual disclaimer is that I am not responsible in the unlikely event that something goes wrong to your phone or computer. Hope this helps

Thanks for the help, now we have a tale of woe. some things were best not touched, after following a fairly well detailed account of updating to Android 7 the screen filled with line after line of red text and froze.
I had to remove the battery to turn it off, now I have a brick that will not boot. I get the Samsung Galaxy S5 flash screen with a little yellow "Set Warranty Bit : kernel" at the top of the screen.
I think I had better post a new thread about this.

Questions that will help in assisting you: Can you still boot into download or recovery mode? What nougat ROM did you flash? What steps did you take to flash the nougat ROM? What happened?
If you can enter download mode, then you can reflash a stock ROM via odin to hopefully save your S5, you can find one on Sam Mobile. Without the right info, that is the best general advice I can give.
You can try posting a new thread to hopefully recruit more help. If you decide to do so, include the answers to the questions I have posted above. Otherwise, I am happy to attempt to assist you in recovering the functionality of your S5 on this thread.

No, I can't get into download or recovery, I have tried with the 3 key combo and using ADB, the first still refuses to work and the ADB doesn't find the device.
Smart Switch won't connect nor will Odin.
Lineage 14-1. and open-gapps-arm-6.0-micro.
I had opened a new thread before I got your reply, how do I include your answers into that tread? "Bricked after attempted Update: Help".
