Wiping userdata with app2sd - G1 General

I'm trying to wipe out the userdata partition to remove all installed programs. I am running the Cyanogenmod 4.1.11.1 and want to upgrade to 4.1.99 but the wipe feature doesn't work from the recovery image. It keeps on aborting so I want to wipe the userdata partition manually from the console when you boot to the recovery mode.
Thanks

What recovery do you have? Did you already try to load the htc recovery image?

[Q] Reincarnation not booting

I am using GT S5360. I have installed reincarnation pre final and it didn't passed the screen where samsung galaxy Y GTs5360 comes.
I followed the whole procedure but not working. Any help ???
Did you flash kernel?
Mount system?
Remember that naturalizer or touchwiz rom isn't for galaxy y
after you flash percys cm#2 kernel you must reboot to recovery and wipe system data and cache before you flash the rom
the steps are as follows
go into cwm
mount system
flash percys #2 kernel
reboot to recovery
format system data cache
mount system data cache
flash rom zip
format data
restart
if the rom still doesnt boot after that take out your sim card
if the rom now boots you need to change your baseband by flashing a different stock rom firmware via odin
I flashed the jellybean version... I have restored the backup now and i followed all the steps... I flashed the zip file of kernel, rebooted recovery, formatted system, data, cache and then installed the rom... But it stucks on bootscreen... Dosen't even show the bootanimation...

Do this :
1.Go to CWM,mount all the partitions and flash the kernel.
2.Reboot the system and take out the battery and then put it again
3.Again boot into cwm and format system, data and cache
4.Go back and wipe data and cache
5.Again go to mounts and storage and mount all the partitions
6.Flash the rom and after that wipe data
7.Reboot
And burrrrrah!
Your new rom is ready!

How to (re) encrypt?

I had some complex issues flashing some roms and ended up having to format userdata. Now I am unencrypted and I have not been able to get the stock rom (from the official OTA zip) to boot. I was able to get all 3 of the custom OOS roms in the development section to boot, however when i go into settings and start encryption the green android logo flashes on the screen and the device does a hot reboot without starting encryption. I have tried countless things to boot the stock rom and/or get encryption to work including flashing the stock recovery on a custom rom, and the stock recovery asks for a pattern and mine doesn't work. I am totally out of ideas so if anyone has any please help.
solved: i previously did fastboot format userdata and it didn't work. I just did fastboot format userdata, system, and cache and the full ota zip installed, the security settings say it's encrypted, and i was able to decrypt with the stock recovery. Time to flash twrp and break more stuff!
Encryption
I believe the phone encrypts when you put a screen lock on.
I put a pin on mine booted in to recovery and it was encrypted, rebooted phone, removed pin, rebooted recovery everything back to normal.

Flashing stock boot.img in bootloader mode should encrypt the phone too.

Thanks for sharing your solution. I found myself in this precarious position today. Solved with fastboot format... Thanks!

How to really clean my phone before a new flash?

Hello everyone.
Usually I just format things through TWRP and flash a new ROM, but I found the following in a Nexus 6 thread:
As to what I usually do for a really clean install (likely overkill):
Reboot to Bootloader
Wipe everything (fastboot erase all)
Do flash-base.sh from latest factory image (this reflashes modem partitions; this is required after erase all)
Boot to Recovery
Wipe everything from TWRP
Reboot to Recovery
Wipe everything again from TWRP (old habit from when the first wipe didn't actually get rid of everything on older devices)
fstrim Data, Cache, System, and Firmware partitions
Reboot to Recovery
ROM
GApps (I don't use GApps, but if I did, this is when they are to be flashed)
Reboot to Recovery
Wipe everything except System from TWRP
Format Data and Cache to F2FS
fstrim Data and Cache partitions
Reboot to Recovery
Kernel
Magisk
Reboot to System
Do set-up and copy files over to device
Reboot to Recovery
Wipe Dalvik Cache (I guess the button in TWRP would work; I do rm -Rf /data/dalvik-cache)
Use filesystem tools to check and repair partitions (e2fsck for ext4 being System and Firmware partitions, and fsck.f2fs for F2FS being Data and Cache partitions)
fstrim Data, Cache, System, and Firmware partitions
Reboot to System

Is there anything similar for Moto G5 Plus? I would really like to make a deep cleanup in my phone before flashing a new ROM.
Thanks in advance.

Except part 1: flash-base.sh from latest factory image (we have no factory image) you can do everything on the Moto G5+ too.
The question is if that is really needed.
Wiping twice with TWRP isn't necessary anymore but you can do it if you want.
fstrim isn't really needed imo, but you can do it from terminal if you want.
And checking the partitions for errors may be a good thing but if the partitions are faulty you would recognise it when you try to flash anything. But this is a thing you can do too if you want to.
You can find the exact usage of the commands for fstrim and e2fsck and fsck.f2fs by googling for it.
If I want to be sure that everything is cleaned up I wipe all partitions except external SD with TWRP, reformat data (you'll have to do that as the F2FS formatted data partition is encrypted) and flash my usual stuff like ROM, gapps, kernel, magisk etc.
Sent from my Moto G5 Plus using XDA Labs

I forgot to wipe the dalvik in twrp and proceeded to install a custom rom
