Hello all,
I've question to you about RAM of this device. Does its have 288mb or 192? I've read that magic from UK Vodafone has only 192, could you help me? I've bought it and waiting for delivery... In the auction was written that it has 288mb but truely Im not sure it's true. Thanks guys.
I have one from Vodafone Germany and it only has 192 megs.
We do have the 192MB, also known as the 32B hardware, which kinda sucks. On the bright side however, most of the HTC Magic's are like this, and most ROMs are built for these phones.
hm. thx
Do you know how to check it? Is it 32A or B?
Ok I know everything. So tell me one thing, using hero roms will be slower than in 32A? And official HTC sense will be realesed for this type or only for A which has more ram?
A Hero Rom on 32B will be slower - I have yet to find one that is at least acceptable for everyday use. Currently I stick to the Dwang-Android-1.6-Rom (with Hero theme).
And one more thing: Afaik there are still issues in every available HERO-Rom for the 32A/B regarding Bluetooth.
The official HTC sense will be released for the 32A - it is possible that we may receive an official update from Vodafone someday though. But I hope that we see an unofficial Version for the 32B in this forum soon after the official release.
hm.. so its a little problem with sense...
Ok, I've bought this phone (it arrived today). On auction guy wrote that it has 288mb... So I think I can send it back to him and buy 32A... But in Poland I didnt saw white Magic which was not from Vodafone.
What do you guys think? What to do I really like hero software but I dont like it design(look of phone) - its main reason that I didnt bought Hero.

Don't let the Hero blues get you down. I have an HTC Magic 192mb (32B) here in Germany and I am running a fast Hero ROM... MDHERO.. you can download it from this very site! So when people tell you Hero will run slow.. please ignore them.. they haven't tried EVERY ROM in order to find that out. Download the MDHERO ROM and be happy.. like me. You can peek at my Youtube vid and see for yourself:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOM4xqu64mI
Does Bluetooth work? And I mean really work - not just connecting with no sound...
And how often do you reboot? Of course I didn't try EVERY HERO image - but the ones I tried got slower with each hour...
I would be more than happy to give it a try - but no BT simply means no Hero for me
Thx for your answer blackvyper. So I will stay with this one.

If you need help partitioning, get a hold of me on AIM and I'll help you. My screenname is vinbeaver.
JACxHEROSKI.
His Hero ROM ports for 32B are pretty fantastic. They are fast, well put together, somewhat optimized, and is quite feature-rich.
Just remember, your phone will never be as fast as mine. I mean, at least if you're running a HERO port on your MyTouch.
I have Mytouch 32B, tried two Hero ROMs
1. QTek Hero ROM (Magic, MyTouch, 32B)
2. ZeroXd Hero ROM (Magic, MyTouch, 32B)
I had problem with both, screen gets fuzzy once phone sleeps. I did some research saw a lot of people having same problem with MyTouch coz of lower RAM then Magic or release date or whatever....
So is there a hero app i can use with out having this problem. I like the exchange total sync in that plus keyboard plus all the bling bling. Right now am using CyanogenMod vers. 4.0.4 with a black hero theme on it, speed is great but wanna play with hero ROM. Please suggest.
Thanks

Try out evil's hero rom...i didn't get the BSOD (blurry screen of death) with that rom but on Dizzy/haykuro I did!
ive tried every hero rom and im sad to say im not happy with them but what can you do when the phones not built to run something like that... it just drives me nuts that every time i press the home key it goes to that htc loading screen for at least a minute
im using zeroxd's new hero rom now which is the only hero that seems to let me get calls... on any other one when someone calls me it takes the trackball blinks but it takes so long to load the screen i cant see whos calling me but i am happy to say from trying just about every rom i have not felt the bsod... yet
OK i have 1 question, which ROM for MYTOUCH 32B doesnt have an issue LOADING HOME SCREEN everytime i exit from WEB BROWSER or some APPS? im sick off it.pls help me
Trust me.
Flash JAC's latest.
You won't be disappointed. All of the HERO ROM developers work closely. You'd be surprised on how often the find one another working on another project that couldn't really be considered their own.
Every JAC ROM I've flashed to my G1 and MyTouch - has been flawless. Great experiences with each build thus far. Haykuro and Drizzy, now that's another story.
I was looking over the internet and I know that some sites said that is gonna be available on october... But does anybody knows the real date??... Or if it's gonna be released after all???
I know that the sense is already installed for the Magics from Brazil, but I haven't read any official info about this being released from HTC to the world...
I know that there are already some hero roms (I've already tryied a couple) but they are a little buggy (issues with bluetooth, led's... etc)... So, any info =P???
This might be asked before, but I've searched into the forums with no succes... Thanks in advance for the answers...
AFAIK, there has been no official date yet but rest assured, we shall see it within October. For the preloaded Sense UI in Brazil's HTC Magic, did the handsets actually come out already?
I'd say HTC will be on track to provide the Sense UI update to Magic within October, they just need a little more time to sell the Hero, that's why there has been no official word yet lol.
I know for sure that it is Official that the HTC SENSE wont be released in Denmark...
Its really crappy that they wont release it everywhere...

Oh and why is that? Did Denmark get the Google-branding version PVT32B? The way I see it is that only PVT32A HTC-branding version will get the official update.

No in Denmark we have the 32a devices with HTC brand... But the danish HTC support team have alraedy reported that HTC Sense wont be released to danish Magics officially....
Edit: removed!
I have a Hero but im thinking of changing to a Magic because theres so little developers for the Hero and i'd like to run android without rosie.
Would you recommend me to keep the hero or not? And why?
I thought they were pretty much the same just the magic looks better than the big chin hero
trade
ill trade ya my magic for the hero lol

I have a Magic but the Sprint Hero looks like the Magic.. switching phones from one to another serves no purpose as the Magic can run Hero ROM's with no problems... as is evident by my Youtube video

Hmm the design is quite difference IMHO. The hardware on the other hand is the same except for the camera which is 5mp on the hero. But i don't think he is reffering to the Sprint Hero
If you end up trading make sure you get the 32A Magic in case you ever do want to run Rosie again. The 32B needs all sort of memory hacks to get it working and even then it's not the best (in my humble opinion).
Dont change it....
At least its confirmed that Hero willl get Android 2.0....

If the Hero gets it i can't see why the Magic 32a wont get it as well, at least im sure that the xda developers will cook it for us as soon as it comes to the Hero
Just wondered what peoples opinions were. I know it's a bit outdated hardware wise but it sounds decent enough for most things.
Does 2.1 run well enough? My understanding is that 2.1 ROMs support all h/w. Does Gallery3D run well enough? Seems like the only thing in Cyan's 5 series ROMs that I'd want to push back in. FYI I'm talking about AOSP ROMs, none of that Sense UI crap.
Is rooting still as easy FlashRec? I'll be buying a UK 32B Magic, probably a vodafone device, debranded if I can find one though.
I just got mine. Had to root with goldcard, but still pretty easy. I can't say enough good stuff about it. I'm using a 2.1 rom and everything seems to work well.
First get a 32a...
The magic is outdated already and getting a 32b is just making it worse... The only good thing about 32b is that it can run G1 roms
Second Cyanogens 2.1 ROM runs fine on Magic
T-Mobile also reported that Magic will get either an official 2.1/2.2 Android update.. This is only for the MyTouch though, but developers here will probably make it run better on 32a...

The goldcard is for flashing to a previous build which can be comprimised by FlashRec, correct?
Goldcard shouldn't be too hard, I'm just worried about flashing SPLs, almost shat myself flashing 1.33.2005 to my G1 >.<

The 32A isn't sold in the UK, only 32B by Vodafone, and for what it would cost me to import one I could by a Nexus :'(
I'd really like to use Cyan's ROMs too, my G1 was always flashed to his latest ROM
Has anyone tried Gallery 3D on theirs? It's the only part of stock 1.6/2.1 I really can't stand...

I use 3D Gallery on my Mytouch 1.2 (which is a 32A device) and I've never had problems with it.
Hi everyone,
I just purchased a used Saphire (a Vodafone branded Magic, 32B, from a german) and i want to upgrade it's ROM before i give it to my girl (it's going to be her first smartphone ).
I was wondering if anyone can recommend me a good ROM for it. I definitely want HTC Sense to be on there, and if possible i'd prefer a 2.2 Froyo ROM.
It must be stable without bugs, cause my girl don't know squat about smartphones and i can't be there all the time to troubleshoot.
I've been looking around a bit in the development thread, but as i'm an old time WM user i'm completely unfamiliar with ROM flashing on Androids.
Can anyone give me a good recommendation for a stable ROM with Sense?
I'd really appreciate any tips

funny, but when i saw this thread, i noticed 97 views (in other words, 97 times people looked at the thread) but no replies...
probably because dont really think there's anything such as a "stable" modded rom
sure, many are quite stable but no modded rom (imho) is ever going to be 100%, fully, undeniably bug-proof
and adding in the sense requirement, well, good luck..
if it was me, i'd use cyanogenmod 6.1, or just stick to the stock 2.2 you can get from yer carrier
in fact, if i was giving it to someone else who cant do maintenance on their rom, i'd definitely stick with stock
I have recently bought a Vodafone UK Magic (32B Board), yesterday did a massive software rebuild on it and now have a stable Froyo 2.2 (Gio's Mod). Check out this thread for details (look at the last page for details of my setup before and after upgrade).

You've got a good point there with a stock ROM. If set it up for her with it's stock ROM (1.6) for now.
And there is a stock 2.2 ROM for the sapphire (which wouldn't require rooting and alike)? This one 's got a 32B board (GSM/Europe).
Stock 2.2 would also be great performancewise i guess.

these are the shipped roms for the sapphire 32b, perhaps your carrier's 2.2 OTA is in there
Thanks for the replies everyone!
But as of today it seems the question was unnecessary, because Vodafone today announced that they're going to roll out 2.2.1 to all their HTC Magic users in the UK and the rest of europe!
Ain't that great news?

Mine just updated itself yesterday: the notification for the bootloader update came in around noon, and after that it updated to 2.2.1.
It's a great update....first few minutes it renders the phone a bit slow. After taking it some good use it becomes very snappy
I suspect however that you need a stock ROM to be updatable, and judging from your sig you ain't got that running...
thanks

Ah ok, its true I'm running a custom Froyo ROM right now and loving it. Don't know if I should try the Vodafone update out. Is it really worth it? Hows the vodafone mods on it, I hope they haven't overdone it.
If you've already got Froyo, then i don't see a reason for updating.
They've been very sparse with the Voda bloathware on this update though. You can only tell it's Vodafone by one small app and the boot-splash.

Haha, well I don't want their app and I got rid of their red splash screen recently by flashing via fastboot. Now I've got a nice custom one, wouldn't change it back for anything lol.
Vodafone usually stuffs up the phone's OS, especially Sony phones...
I'm on the 32A with CM6.1 - works quite nice
Did you get the Sense UI with the new Vodafone update?
