Hello everybody - I am currently testing the Universal with the 1.11.45 wwe system, and I would appreciate any confirmation that what I have found still exists in the 1.13 system, as I am not sure if I should upgrade immediately or not.
- “contact” soft key is on the RIGHT when desktop is visible, on the LEFT in phone application and in the MIDDLE button during the phone call. JUST Imagine somebody in the car who wants to make a phone call….. especially with MISSING REAL HARDWARE BUTTONS to assign the contacts to…
- In the phone application – last unanswered phone call is not displayed on the phone screen – you have to click HISTORY to see it – just the same problem in the car – somebody is calling you, you can not get out the device on time, so you press twice TINY TINY green button on the hinge, and …. You call the last number you have called before…not the last missed one
- Phone application just shuts itself of and Universal comes to the desktop screen WHY? (Imagine AGAIN in the car….)
- REALLY ugly TMobile skin, but the original blue skin has to low contrast….Again IN THE CAR…
- maybe I did not try hard enough but I can not obtain predictable results with the onscreen quickdial (not to mismatch with SPEED DIAL butto which Is OK, )– how to obtain the names starting with second or third letter from the key – I don’t know, and anyway it does not work if you have about 1500 contacts as I have
- check how SPEED DIAL it was done in the old handspring TREO phones – large buttons with the names on them in two columns rather than one list, with whole screen “pages” of 12 contacts each, for me much easier to use and navigate if you have more than one screen of numbers as in the car there is no chances for easy up and down navigation, what you have to do now with the numbered list.
- With all this missing hardware buttons what happened with the D-Pad functionality – in Blue Angel it was UP- History DOWN – speed dial … but in Universal nothing works ?????
- “during the call” screen with 6 soft buttons stays on when the phone call is already finished – again you do not find the soft buttons in the right places when you want to make next call
- When I got rid of the TM skin video call button is missing, I can not use UMTS yet as it is not available in Krakow, but it will be needed some time…
- No BT icon on the desktop – no chances for the quick verification of the proper connection between headset and the unit
- I have heard that voice dialing functionality does not work when the unit is closed (I always keep it open – screen on the top)
- There is no voice dialing available when the unit is protected by the password (but this is disputable)
Any other comments / bugs????
Some very valid points - I tell my buds that the JJ (in fact any XDA) is not good for driving frequent phone users. Here are a couple of fixes:
- Quickdial is pretty cool. Just type the name in T9 and matching entries will appear. Click the match you like then press dial. Forget trying this whilst driving tho...
- For speeddial, search this forum for VJDialer, and put links on your today screen any way you like using cLaunch of another plugin
- Search this forum for buzz's BT icon, AND his BT headset fix. However, you will then find that the BT issues are far deeper than you currently realise - the 2 devices just keep on losing connection.
- Voice dialing works perfectly as expected no matter how the phone is laid out - try it, it's DEFINITELY what u need for driving. Works well with BT too
how to disable the auto dailing when touching the contact in the dail pad? Is it possible to display the contact details like I-phone does? When using the prevous Diamond's netvigation pad, it is possible to open the contact details. But how can it works for HD with no direction pad? Please help, very inconvenient when choosing the contact with multiple phone number. HELP!!!
THAT is something that also really annoys me.
i would love an option to turn that off!
I am using Pocket CM and it doesn't has that problem.
1 click on the contact to show detail and another click to choose which number you want to dial.
does it replace the standard phonepad app?
what we mean is when you press the dial button - then the dialpad and the call history appears.
clicking on a contact in the list leads to dialing the number.
in the normal wm contact app the klick leads to the contact like we know and want it.

I completly agree, I have been seaching for a solution..
didnt find a registry key that could solve that
this would be a nice feature to find
actually you have to slide the contact name to choose the phone number you dial, or the action you launch.
i agree this is the most annoying thinh in hd
I think you are talking about the Phone interface (Refer to User Manual P.50 Using Phone Features), when you short-list the contact you would like to select, on Point 4 of the Manual, it instructs you to
To call a different phone number
associated with the contact, select
the contact, then tap Menu >
Open Contact.
Instead, you can just simple "tap" on the right hand of the contact, it will pop up the contact detail, then you can select (tab on the associated number) to dail
Hope this can help.

One way that I have tried is to change the phone dial skin to standard windows mobile. If you install the htc tweak written about in this forum you can easily change phone skins. The standard phone skin does not dial the phone when you tap the contact but gives you a list of phones for that contact. It does mean however that you will have another look for your phone dial.

I'm fine w/ just sliding, thanks a lot! Dunno why I didn't think of it lol...
This is also something that bugs me but not only that.
I drive to work by bycicle. When I do, I have my HD in my pocket, playing radio.
The HTC headset has 2 buttons embedded of which 1 auto dials the last number when pressed. Unfortunatly when your wearing a headset, have a laptop bag around your shoulder and during these Winter times are wearing sturdy coat, the button gets pushed accidentaly all the time.
Disabling that function would be brilliant too.

All I know is that I found it as an option in the HD Tweak under the heading 1.8 Phone Pad Style. There are two options HD (Default) and Windows Mobile Standard.

Right thanks. I was merely referring to your use of PocketCM. Obviously some things are tiny using the standard included theme.
So my question was, aside from any dialing issues, I just wanted to ask real quick where you got a WVGA theme if you did (anyone know of one?)
Thanks.

if you just slide your finger across a certain contact, it will not call directly that contact, but change the phone number selected, if more numbers available, or switch to send text message etc.
I also discovederd that by accident, but its working and enough to solve this most annoying problem.
it seems there is no solution to solve it. Anybody have further suggestion. Please help for the frequent user of the smart dailing. Or if we could change the registry of the phone. Help!

hey everyone..
i've used my friend's HTC Diamond for like a week, and this thing that when u make a call and the phone vibrate when the other side answers is pretty unique, is there anyway i can do this with the Xperia ? like is there an option or some kind of application for it ?
Go to "Phone" settings and open the "Advanced" tab. Check the "Vibrate device when connection is established".
umm,, there is no such option,, there are only send a msg when reject a call or save contact .. .. nothing else .. :S
Install the Blackstone Dialer, then you´ll have this feature
i did that.. the options are :
*slide keyboard to answer call
*REject call with a txt msg
*enable missed call reminder
*add new number to contacts
*Press Send key to open call history
:S .. i looked everywhere .. + this dialer really ruined the keyboard,, it became smaller when i try to write a new number..
lol,, omg,, now after uninstalling it the software, the options are still there.. even after hard reset , and the numpad is still small :S .. >< how can i get it like it used to be ? big and easy to touch .. lol >.> seriously >.>"
umm also, i just noticed that when someone calls me now my phone doesn't show me who's calling,, it just keep rining till i press the answer button.. :S

Do what he said!!
I did .. and read above what happened to my phone ..
Which version have you installed?
the one from the topic above ? ( this )
OK, googled a lot and read a lot. Couldn't find anything on the subject(s), so hope it's not a clone.
On TP2 when I press the "green" button, the phone/dialer launches.
My preference would be that:
- phone keypad stays hidden, not automatically deployed
- only last calls (like as in menu>view>all calls) instead of default list view of "Calls and contacts", showing last 5 calls then QuickDial then Contacts.
Also, on the Kaiser-like HTC Today with Music tab enabled, would like to be able to assign another (for example PocketMusic) player to the Lauch action, not only WMP or HTC players.
Lastly, on the Calendar, from month view if I go to a particular day, the LSK is Week (as if "Up"), is there a way to make it Month instead (as if "Back").
Anyone knows how to achieve these?
Even I would like to know about this. How to get "All Calls" as the default as opposed to "Calls and Contacts" when the green call button is pressed.
I am using an Xperia X1 with WM 6.5 HTC Sense ROM

a post to revive a (possibly) abandoned thread. someone must know how to tweak the dialler for these two items.
the second one is definetely a winmo setting, not an HTC
Is it only me?
I'm coming from WinMo only phones. I owned a lot of them, the last being the Touch HD. I was so used to press the "green" key to access the dialer and look for a contact using that mixed numbers/letters phone keyboard.
On Nexus One, I select "phone" shortcut on my homescreen and I get the dialer. But if you push buttons on that keyboard, you only get to dial that number (no contacts lookout, matching what you have pressed). So you have to go to Contacts or Favorites to select someone you want to call (too many operations to not get annoyed )
Is this a normal behavior on Nexus One? Or am I doing something bad?
I made a movie to see what I am talking about (not a native English speaker).
Movie 1
The second movie is made showing what I am talking about using a Market application I found: SuperDial. It works as expected, but still I am confused why Google didn't make this a default (I see this on every phone)
Movie 2
Thanks for any suggestions.
Alin.
On the N1, you can press the "search" button at any time and begin typing a contact's name, and they should pop up as a top result. Alternatively, you can hold the Search button, and simply speak your contact's name. I find this to be the easiest way.
Yes, I've seen this, but it gets more general results, not only contacts. Also, after you find a contact that way, you click on it and it won't dial directly. You still have to select what to do.. not that fast ...
I'm not an American/Englishman and nor my contacts are , so speaking names is useless. Last try was: "Alex Axon" and the phone undesrtood "alex sucks own" .. you got the idea
Thanks for answering anyway. Are there other methods?
You can install aContacts from the market. It does what you want and very configurable. Unfortunately android stock dialer doesn't support T9.
Thanks.. will try that also. As I mentioned, I already found some replacement for my issue.
The question was: is this normal behavior for the default dialer? Or am I doing something wrong?
It looks plain stupid to open an application (Phone in Nexus case) always on a tab that nobody uses (dialer with this behavior). How many times someone will dial a number directly instead of using a saved contact?!? At least the application should remember the last tabs it was in: Favorites, Call Log or Contacts... Dialer is plain useless most of the time with this implementation

This is how mine reacts as well. There's another "application" called "Contacts" in my tray (it also started out on my desktop but I've removed it) which takes you to the same four-tab screen but starts on the "Contacts" tab. This sounds like it would be perfect for you if you used it instead of "Phone."
I also really miss the smart dailer (I think that's what they called it) on the Windows Mobile phones. I'm amazed that it wasn't implemented in one way or another in the stock dialer since it's been in the WinMo phones since forever.
I remember trying out some apps in the market that emulated the smart dialer. On is called SuperDial and the other was Star Contact. Both looked too ugly for me to use, though.

I also wanted to point out that at this screen, you can long press "Menu" to bring up the soft kb, which you can begin typing contacts with.

That's something cool I never tried, but OP wants to dial immediately after tapping on the contact's name. Doing it this way would be the same as hitting the magnifying glass while in the dailer/contacts app, which brings you to the contacts page where you'd have to then tap on the number you wish to dial. On Windows Mobile, after you T9 the contacts name into the dialer, you can select them and it'll automatically dial the contacts default number, which was very useful.
if you say "call" before the contact's name when using voice input, it will default to dialing them.
aContacts actually do the job really, but really well. It replaced my Phone application from this moment on.
SuperDial was good also, but ugly looking.

Where do you type "call"? OP can't use voice dial because he's not from an English speaking country.
you type call on the keyboard as far as I understood, just before entering contact name.. but the process is long in my opinion...
I'm a bit lazy myself
EDIT: tried to enter contact using keyboard on Dialer.. and nothing happens, contact is not found, and dialer just starts dialing the corresponding key number
