hey vonne thats cool but i never heard of them are they a wireless company? i much rather buy an unlock or do some of the things i said in the original message
you can buy unlocked phones off ebay. i sell some there. if you buy the Sprint I don't think it will work on Tmobile even if you unlock it because Sprint uses CDMA and Tmobile is GSM. If you buy an unlocked GSM phone it should work on Tmobile. I had a different unlocked GSM phone while i was in the US this summer and it worked fine.
ok csasek but im talking bout the hero/ G2 touch not any other phone i jus want that one there so many smart people that hav info on this phone an none can help me?
the only place you can get it unlocked is on ebay for about $550, and yes it will work in the US...any other specific questions
You are aware that the G2 Touch will not work with 3G in the US? If you buy one, you will be restricted to EDGE at best. As has been already stated, the Sprint Hero can never work with T-Mobile US at all.

Dave

why doesn't the Hero work with US 3G? what frequencies/technology do ATT & Tmobile us for 3G? I thought that Tmobile was using WCDMA/ HSDPA which should be compatible and that ATT uses HSDPA too.
I honestly don't know what all these things mean so if you could provide some insight I would really appreciate it. Since I sell these on ebay I like to be able to answer these types of questions.

Yes they do, but the important thing here is that these services can be offered over several different frequencies.
The "worldwide" Hero (as opposed to the Sprint one) only supports 3G (HSPA/WCDMA) at 900Mhz and 2100Mhz.
http://www.htc.com/www/product/hero/specification.html
T-Mobile US's 3G network runs at 1700MHz, and ATT's 3G at 1900MHz. Neither of these 3G bands are supported by the radio in the GSM Hero, so you are stuck with 2G/EDGE speeds.
Regards,
Dave
Thank you very much for the explanation
im sure there is a radio update in the development section somewhere???
this would alow US users to have 3G but they would require root in order to flash the new radio
There is no radio ROM update at present which will make US 3G bands available, and there is no evidence as yet that this is a ROM and not a hardware restriction.
If I were interested in pursuing this further, I'd probably enquire in the Magic forums if it possible to flash a MyTouch 3G radio onto a European Magic to get 3G working with T-Mobile US.
Regards,
Dave
So what phone should i get? the out of staste on with chin? or the sprint one? dont care for looks cuz im ok with both jus sayin most price efficient and easier to unlock

So I am looking at getting the HD2 to replace my 3Gs iPhone. I actually just tried a Nexus One and while it is a great device there are some items that need to be addressed, mainly in the fit and finish side, plus full out of box Exchange support.
SO, with that said. I noticed MobileCity has the HD2 for $719 and this feels like a good price for this device. It is however the import version and the guy on the phone said it will NOT work in any USA 3G system.
My question is this, with a ROM update will this device work just fine on the T-Mobile 3G system today?
Thanks!
Current HD2 will not work 3G US
Please note that the hardware of the HD2 is only 1900/2100 bands. For 3G in the USA you will need 1700Mhz for T-Mo or 850Mhz for AT&T.
No softwre will do it, if the radio band is not supported by hardware. Rumor says T-MO will have the US version of HD2 by the end of Q1/2010. my guess is April 2010. Note that if you are on AT&T even unlocking will not work for you even then.
Personally- I 'lost' my 3G by buying the current HD2 model. It worth it, as for SMS/emails the 3G is not needed, and I can have WiFi free hot spots ..
Bummer, but a glimmer of hope there....
So you saying you do not miss the 3G service at all? I would also be in wifi coverage at home and in the office, heck I could even just stay with AT&T for now. Would you be able to compare it to an iPhone 3GS?
I thought that the HD2 radios were the same for both the US and the Europe versions as they are quad-band radios and it was just a software update for the radios.

There are now 4 distinct locality based versions of the HD2 with different radio bands for UMTS/3G
Quad band refers only to the GSM element, not UMTS
Well slap me and call me Susan, I did not know there were 4 units...which one is the device I should look at then even if it would not work on 3G?

Great! Thanks for the link.
Anyone able to say they are happy they went from a 3GS to the HD2? If so, why?

No offense, but PDAdb is utter trash. 4 different units of HD2? The Tmo US having 900/2100? Another HD2 US having 850/1900? Tmo US is on a 1700/2100 UMTS so no, that link to Tmo US HD2 is completely wrong. When did the 850/1900 HD2 was even mentioned anywhere on the net? AFAIK, the closeless you'll come to AT&T 3G is the australian version which has 850/2100 UMTS. I'd be careful giving people that link with unsubstantiated information.
Thanks. What device do you have?
So now the question is would it be better to wait for the T-Mobile version or go with a current device?
So I'm assuming that you have T-Mobile? If you do, just wait for the Tmo version to be release around March. That's all you need to know if you want Tmo 3G.
In case you want AT&T 3G, there's no news of 850/1900 band other than the Australian version that i talked about above. The Australian version is coming out at the end of this month.
Damn..now the question is whether to wait for the Australian version or just get it tonight from eBay.
iPhone 3Ha vs. HD2
had both. there is no way the iPhone beats the HD2 in any category but battery. but you can have two batteries...
the iPhone is slower , bloated, had to be jail broken of you consider any customizing, and must have itunes and Apple support. not for me. was a bitter trial.
why EBay? see www.networkingrus.com . got 3 phones from them already.

No, actually I am on AT&T so it would be a break of contract to move to T-Mobile, however it would be a cheaper data plan over all..
What are most people using here? T-Mobile or AT&T for the HD2?

I'm using AT&T without data plan.
I am on T-Mobile simply for the fact I save $50 dollars a month for the inconvenience of only having the Edge network.

How is the device on Edge only? Part of me wants to move now, however the other part of me says if I am going to get a device on T-Mobile, why not just wait for the 3G edge version from T-Mobile.
In the US it's going to be Edge only. I'm using it in Canada (Edge only again) but to be honest, haven't really missed much. I don't surf on it that much and I'd rather do it over Wifi anyways (home/office)
I would spend all day researching these but I dont have much free time lately.
Does anyone know what bands the Tmobile USA HD2 will use? Will it run on AT&T 2g? 3g?
Will the phone come unlocked if bought via the no-contract plan? If it is locked, how do I unlock it - is there a wait period?
Lastly, (and i'm sure no one knows this yet but i'll ask anyway) - are there any major differences in the hardware from the 8585? I read some rumors the device will have more memory. Will we run into issues with the device having a different SPL that must be broken?
Thanks everyone
maybe this can help you to unlock it http://www.unlockallcellular.com/htc-hd2-unlock-code-np-46016.html
and im not sure if it will work over at&t 3g network but u can do a search in this forum n u will find an answer
T-Mobile uses 1700/2100 so it will NOT work on ATT 3g, however edge speeds will work perfectly.
You can by the phone contract free from T-Mobile. I dont know if they will lock it down or not unless you go on contract.
Their are hardware differences, but nothing really major. You get 1gb of ROM vs 512mb, and the RAM amount comes unlocked while the others have to install an update to get to the full amount.
Basics it should be the same so I dont see why the current SPL stuff wouldnt work... I could be wrong though.
If you need ATT3g look at the Telstra version which has the ATT850 3g band and works here.
Can someone tell me how to unlock the Tmobile US version of the HD2? I would like to use it on At&t in the US.

It's an awesome device, too bad mine didn't come with the microSD card that has all the T-mobile games and goodies..
also, the camera doesn't seem to work..not sure why. i was told that the device i have was a test unit that tmo used to test the rom w/their network..etc.

Can someone explain to me, or point me to a thread, why a US T-Mo phone would not be compatible with AT&T's 3G? I am thinking about buying a HD2 and taking it to AT&T because I have no T-Mo coverage at work. But tethering and data rates are critical to me.
Thanks
Because TMo decided to be clever and chose a spectrum for their 3G service completely apart from everyone else (save for Wind Mobile in Canada.)
You'd get EDGE at best.

T-mo uses different bands than at&t for 3g. You would only get edge speeds on at&t with a t-mo us hd2. If you get the australian telstra HD2, you can get 3g with at&t.

I don't understand how you were able to buy a TMO version of the HD2 from craigslist when the phone hasn't even been released to the stores. More than likely you bought a foreign HD2 that has been unlocked for use on any GSM carrier.
Like other threads have stated, TMO and ATT 3G use different frequencies. IF it is a TMO HD2 you won't be able to use ATT 3G and vice versa. Also, this phone being a foreign HD2 (more than likely), you won't be able to use 3G on TMO. Though, maybe on ATT.
Anyway, I digress, in order to unlock the phone for use across GSM carriers, you have to obtain the unlock code either from HTC or TMO (or ATT) and need a "foreign" SIM card to input the unlock code. The unlock is based on the IMEI of your particular phone and thus is unique to each phone.

HD2
TMONEWS.COM is saying it will release the 24th of this month.
I have been a t-mo customer for like 8 years so I called them last night and after some beating around the bush the rep verified the 24th (they are not supposed to leak anything on this phone until it drops) He also said it will be $449 buying outright or $180 for existing customer and a 2 yr extension.
Once I got this guy talking (which took a while) he really began spilling the beans so I am pretty pleased with the info I received.
I'll be standing at the T-Mo door at 9am on the 24th to get this beast.
Even the T-Mo rep compared it to several other models (Nexus one and others) and he said it's a beast and gonna give the iphone some stiff competition.

What does that mean?
I was planning on buying from tmobile, but now I need to get a foreign SIM card too?
Pics or this didn't happen.
I'm pretty sure the answer to this is implied or even obvious to some of you out there from the technical specs scattered around this website (and others) on the different flavors of HD2, but I'm unable to reach a conclusive conclusion on my own, so I'll simply plead ignorance and ask it outright:
If I buy a US T-Mobile and attempt to use it on the AT&T network with my 3G AT&T SIM card, which of the following will happen, to the best of your knowledge?:
It won't work at all.
It will work, but only for EDGE access.
It will work as a 3G phone just fine.
It will work on At&t, but GSM only, meaning only voice and edge. You will not be able to get 3G, no matter what rom or radio you flash.
Yep, the above is correct. It will work on Edge only. However, do note that the phone would have to be unlocked first. If you just switch the SIM cards it will not work
currently, it won't work at all.
No one has reported to unlock this beast successfully.
Thanks for the feedback. I'll stay away from this experiment then.

In looking at the band frequencies for the HD2, it appears that you may be able to set it up for AT&T's flavor of 3G. Is this correct?

Yeah, the GSM(1900+850) in the band frequencies threw me off. I thought that was what AT&T used for 3G. Doesn't matter to me, I'm on T-Mobile anyway... and I keep my 3G off most of the time for battery conservation, lol.
Hey Guys,
I am thinking of buying a Galaxy Tab, but I am unsure of which carrier I want to go with.
I am from the UK, but living in the US. I do go back to the UK occasionally, so want something that works there - this would mean I would either need the T_Mobile or the AT&T versions.
However, I believe that AT&T and T-Mobile use different frequencies for their 3G signal here in the US, with AT&T being the only one that is the same as the UK/EU.
I was wanting to to with the T-Mobile version as I read somewhere that their speeds would be faster, but if 3G is not going to work in the UK, i'll pass on it. T-Mobile also had a subsidised version which is also an incentive.
So, do any of you guys know if the hardware radio has this frequency limitation or is it something to do with the software? I ask this because my AT&T blackberry was able to connect to T-Mobiles 3G network while I was over in the US last time so it is possible to havea radio that can connect to both.... Perhaps they did not do this though for cost savings....
Why don't u buy a Euro tab. There was a post stating he could use the Euro tab with both voice & data with AT&T sim. No hacking was needed
