Does anyone know how the network device sends out the phone's address to the network? Changing the network device's address doesn't change the one that is actually sent out.

I need to change the default gateway in my 3G connection (or see somehow the address that my provider gave me and change the routing table somehow).
I have done it many times in a couple of laptops with 3G modems in windows XP, but in Shift it seems that i haven't got a modem in vista site, only a new network connection when 3G connects - without the ip address that i am expecting to get from my provider. That looks as if Shift is doing a NAT with WM site which propably have the wan ip address (how can i see the address in WM site??) and where i need to change the default gateway. Any idea or program to do that in WM6????
I can`t go into the Web via T-Mobile after I went into the web via WLAN
My wlan configuration is as follows:
network: Broadcom 802 DHD etc...
IP: I must put it in
Subnet 255.255.0.0
Standardgateway 172.16.1.1
DNS 172.16.1.1
Only when I erase the configuration I can go into the Web via T-Mobile but then
I can`t go into the Web visa WLAN
Crazy
What I get is that there is a "DNS error" when I try to go into the web via T-Mobile....
Is the challenge to guess your Windows version, ROM and installed applictions, browsers etc?
There's a thread for Q&A's, this is ROM Development.
Windows version: WM 6.1
ROM: The original rom from HTC
browsers: opera and IE
Pls help me because all WLAN and T-Mobile codes seem to be right
Although you dind't specify anything about the ROM and OS version you have, I can tell you a little about the way IP addresses work and why you're not having internet.
Every computer on the internet has an IP address and that is used to identify it. However there are on a home network more than one computer, so you have a router that re-routes your internet through it's own range of IP addresses. Meaning you get an IP from your provider, which your router stores, and your router gives all computers in a network an IP address. This way every computer in your network can connect to the internet without the ISP having to give you more than one IP address.
Normally routers work with a technique called DHCP, dynamic host configuration protocol, which allows all computers in the network to communicate and share addresses. So without having to enter information manually a computer knows that the DNS is 172.16.1.1 (for example) and that it's IP is 172.16.1.*. If you disable this technique you must enter the information manually.
This isn't a problem until you need to connect to more than one network. Since every network has it's own set of IP ranges, it's own DNS, etc. So when you connected to your WiFi and manually entered information for your home network you disabled the ability to connect to T-Mobile yourself. Since the IP you get from T-Mobile isn't the same as you use in your WiFi network.
The other way around is the same, when you connect to T-Mobile your getting an IP address assigned automatically, howevery our WiFi network doesn't give you one automatically and thus resulting in no internet connection.
I hope that made sense to you, kept it as simple as possible. Also I hope you can fix the problem... normally you can do that by enabling DHCP in your router by logging in into the device. (You usually do this by entering the IP address of the default gateway into your webbbrowser.)

KilZone - thank you so much for your kind answer !!!
I do only have an access point no router ?
Is this possible too ?
I think the access point functions as a router too, not sure about that, but you can try by entering the default gateway into your browser and see where you end up.

How i can change name of android client in my router dhcp tab?
I have name of my pc, laptop and an android_9564d56d632e549c
it's possible?
My Desire shows up with a similar long-winded identity on my router's DHCP table in spite of having set the Device Name to a much more recognisable name. Every other device on the network (various laptops, other mobiles etc.) shows up in the list with their user defined name but not my Desire and I can't find any way to alter it.
HTC customer services didn't really understand what I meant, at least the guy I spoke to didn't! He reckoned it was a burnt-in identity number put there by HTC when the phone was built. Not sure I go with that.
I know it's not going to stop the World from turning but I would just like to see my phone identified by the name I've given it. Does anyone know how to change it from gobbledygook to my choice?
BTW it shows up ok on a bluetooth connection and also in HTC Sync. Just not in Connected Clients DHCP Table on the router.
I'm using a Nexus One (Android) on Vodafone in Australia and would like to know if it's possible to release/renew an IP address over GPRS/3G.
I've tried using netcfg, ifconfig but none of them seem to actually get another IP. If I shutdown data and start it again, I get another IP.
Any ideas?

Did you try turning airplane mode on and off? That may cause you to get a new IP.
In GPRS your IP is decided by something called a "PDP Context" (a sort of "contract" you have with the Network that decides which data service you can access, what would be the speed of your connection (QoS) and your IP address).
This PDP Context is not easily killed and that's the beauty of the thing : when you're in bad coverage or moving from cell to cell, this PDP permits you to keep your data connection (it'll be probably slower but your web page will go on loading when you'll get coverage again etc...)
So in a word, to renew your IP you must recreate your PDP Context and in order to do that your must reconnect to the network : airplane mode, turn your device off/on or cut data then turning it on like you've just said. No other way...
I'm not an linux expert but I think the "renew" command send an order to the network card. In your phone there's not really a network card but these network protocols, so that's why it doesn't work for me...
I'll search but I think will be the same with 3G Networks...
Hi guys, been searching for an answer to this with no luck.
I own both the epic4g and galaxy s4. Both rooted. I use wifi tethering. Carrier is sprint.
The s4 connects to the internet and grabs an IP from IP pool. eg 66.87.xxx.xx
The epic 4g connects to the internet and grabs an IP from IP pool eg 107.77.xxx.xx
they are both in the exact location (my desk). whether I switch on 3g/4g etc doesn't
matter. the epic always gets from ip net 107.xx.xxx.xx and the s4 always
gets from ip net 66.87.xxx.xx.
There is something in the device that is telling it which network to connect to, but
what. I would like to have access to ALL the IPs thru both devices.
Is there an app?
a setting to effect this?
How can I get my epic to connect to the network (IP) that the s4 connects to and vice versa?
Thanks in advance for your help guys

manual <<<<<<<<<wifi IP settings are located at
WIFI- advanced setting- manual DHCP (here you manage yourself the IP and if needed the DNS)
But no need to modify them if everything is working normaly.

Thanks but either I did not explain this well enough of you are mistaken. I am not referring to wi-fi,
Let me try to clear it up.
When I connect to the internet with my epic, via 3g or 4g sprint network, NOT WIFI,
I get an IP address of 107.xxx.xxx.xxx something like that. I am connecting to the
IP block of 107 with my epic. I switch to 4g/3g, airplane mode and get new IPs
but all within the 107 block of IPs
BUT
When I connect to the internet with my S4, via 3g or 4g sprint network, NOT WIFI,
I get an IP address of 86.xxx.xxx.xxx something like that. I am connecting to the
IP block of 86 with my Galaxy S4. I switch to 4g/3g, airplane mode and get new IPs
but all within the 86 block of IPs.
How can I access both IP ranges/blocks (107.xxx.xxx.xxx and also 87.xxx.xxx.xxxx) with 1 device?

I am so sorry and confused because i rushed my answer without clearly understanding your request.
I tried deleting my msg and it didn't work. you got it . I apolozige.
May be somebody knows and will enlight us.

Unless some engineer explains, we are just guessing here
Maybe certain IP address is destined to certain SIM...
APN are the same in both devices?
