Hi guys,
I've just purchased my Hero in Vietnam which comes surprisingly without Market Application installed. All I got is the SlideME app which brought me up to only a few apps. One of my friend bought a Hero too and it came w no Market too.
We talked to HTC guys here and it looks like they never are selling anything and am left with no clue about this at all.
Should there is anyway to activate the app?
just use forum search
Why is it that Google don't want the Asians to use Market in the first place?
Certain Hero in certain region come with no Market. If you want the Market, flash it with another ROM. You may want to check this post for a newbie friendly step by step flashing http://is.gd/3WQD7
Guys, it looks like Hero for South East Asia will not have Market app installed due to some licensing issue probably.
I guess I will be hooking up with hacking the root and flashing a new ROM to make life easier.
Thanks all for the reply
I have an HK Hero that currently can't be rooted and even though it came with market my access to the market is severely limited. I have resorted to ripping apps out of different ROMs but I'm still looking for an updated Google Maps with Lattitude

Hi there everyone!!!
This is my first post.
I've the htc topaz ,have just bought it a few days ago , so far very nice phone , but the battery sucks.
I was wondering if there will be a port for HTC Sense UI or Android Hero for this phone. Does anyone knows if using Android on it , would it consume less battery ?
I've bought this phone with the intentions to install Android on it.
If you want to run Android buy a Android phone duuude!
Also it will only make the battery worse, more juice will be needed.
Yeooooooooooo
... welll unfortunately where I live there ins't any android phones available. I live in Finland a place dominate by Nokia . It's very hard to get anything else than LG, Sony Ericsson or Samsung . Other models a extremely expensive ,if you can find other models.
They are available.
I know a lot of scandinavians buy stuff from over the border, and the non vodafone branded Magic is on sale in Sweden, Denmark and Norway. I don't doubt for one second that it is on sale in Finland as well.
But peter chou has hinted that it might make it's way onto existing devices and also in some form onto windows mobile.
You never know, this might be in the next update for the topaz....I doubt it, but you never know!
Android SUCKS!!!
Hi all,
last friday I bought a D2 after 2 weeks with an HTC Dream with Android.
I don't like Android at all.
You have to buy separately Office, PDF and no navigator available (ANDNAV is not an option).
And the battery lasted only one day.
All the things that are working with WM6 are a trouble with Android, and as I use it for work, I don't mind about themes, wallpapers and nonesenses.
Do yourself a favor and don't look for Android. I even would prefer an iphone instead.
Thanks all.
well I would like to see the new Manilla, i'm sick of the current version...

..there is already a rom with manila 2.5!
Yup, Tom Codon has cooked a ROM with WM6.5 and Manila 2.5 - only "beta" though and has lots of bugs as yet - if you want it, you can get it from the rom section
Hi guys,
Recently I bought HTC Magic, Vodafone, and got some nice paid apps. Since I like playing with these fantastic ROM's offered here on XDA, would I be able to download them again if I flash my device? How's that implemented on the market?
Thanks in advance.
Just noticed that I now have the updated Market place on my G1 (Automatic updates, comments in a seperate tab etc)
Is this new or have I just been blind? :/
Sent from my T-Mobile G1
Your blind jk. but separating comments, auto update all the apps was an 2.2 os features, since may on the nexus one.
I know it was a 2.2 update but I thought only 2.1 & above got to see the new market, I thought us on 1.6 was stuck with the old market.
Guess not then, shows how much I used Fast Web Install from App brain then XD

Greetings all. I recently purchased a Dell Streak off ebay. I've long been a Iphone fan. I stood in line and got the first one and have had every one they released. Even went to so far as to get one for my wife and mom. I finally had enough of Apple's and AT&T's restrictions and wanted a andriod phone. I did alot of research and settled on the streak hands down. I got it off ebay slightly used with the dock, car kit, and otter box for $425. I sold my over hyped Iphone 4 and made a good profit heh.
Anyway, the seller said he installed froyo 2.2 from a leaked website. He said it was the version that allowed the sharing of the internet connection without tethering and such. Basically, I'm a andriod noob. So far I'm loving everything about the streak and andriod. My buddy told me I need to get it rooted. Anybody have any knowledge they want to pass to me? I dont even know how to look up the name of the andriod version I have. I also wonder if I need certain sync software? Any suggestions on what software I need to install? Thank you in advance!
In Settings > About phone you'll find Android version, Baseband version, Kernel version, and OEM version.
Most people here replacing the launcher with either LauncherPro or ADW, both have free and paid versions, and are more standard Android-looking launchers. I personally like Stage UI because it's nice and polished despite it being a little laggy/glitchy. (only had the Streak for a month, came from 3GS)
Also, most people recommend getting Steve's Froyo ROM (1.5.1 latest version), more information about rooting and flashing ROMs can be found on the Development boards. There isn't nearly as many ROMs available for the Streak as there is for the Droids and HTCs out there, but that's because Steve is basically the only one developing in this community. There are other contributors but he has his ongoing Froyo build as well as multiple Alphas in the works.
Rooting is super easy actually, just get the application Superuser from the market.
And oh yea, welcome to the fun side of smartphones.
Than you so much!
Trying to find out if anybody has developed a pure Android ROM for the Verizon Galaxy S7. Ideally I want is a ROM that has no Verizon or Samsung apps, add-ins, plugins or what ever. Maybe something similar to the pixel 2 set up?
Ive been working on this for a bit now and the closest thing I can find is freezing/deleting as many apps as you can with Titanium Backup and rooting your device.
What you are trying to do is close to impossible, apparently. Which makes little sense to me. I dont see how one company can cause such a fantastic problem.
Ive rooted my device and froze or deleted almost the entire phone and it works, but its slower than stock and I still dont like all this extra smoke lying around. There are some apps that still try to connect to the internet randomly that are tied to system processes and I dont like it.
Ive called Verizon tech support and they are not given this type of information from corporate. Ive read most every tutorial on XDA and other sites. XDA is the only one with useful info.
XDA does offer a customized Verizon ROM for our phones that has already removed and froze bloatware and such. But its not completely "Verizon Clean".
I just found something about downloading the 930U firmware, U for Unlocked which doesnt have any of the Verizon apps. Im going to give it a shot.
I have done the freeze/ disable thing a few different time on a few different Rims. I guess I should just look at getting a Pixel2. Pure Android, no Samsung added junk and no Verizon bloat.
