Ive been trying to access my yahoo mail via the manila email tab using wap or 3G but I always get an error sync message.
It works perfectly via Wifi so I know its got nothing to do with my mail settings.
Ive looked around here and tried unchecking the proxy box etc to no avail either.
More research on the net though now leads me to believe that my ISP is blocking the access to wap because it believes that the windows mobile email app/tab isnt a legit wap browser and therefore blocks its accesss.
Im living in France and use SFR (a derivative of vodafone) and use wapSFR to connect when not on wifi. Using opera, IE, weather updates etc using wapSFR works fine as well, its just the email app.
So if it is being blocked, is there a way around this?
cheers
Some ISPs block some sites if you use a wap APN: I live in Italy so I know that
D'rath
PS: with internet APN you'll not have problems
Yeah I have a webSFR APN as well but Im unable to access it. I just get a connection error when I try to turn on data connection when using it

Hey all...so im using a little loop whole to use free tmobile internet via proxy settings...now i got the internet to work, but only IE works! i cant get online with any other program such has AIM, myweather app, or anything else, only IE goes online...anyone have this issue? or how to fix it? its driving me crazy!
could be they are blocking the ports used for such services
i dunno?...Live search is the other only program tht works online too...
i believe that it use port80 like browsers too
It uses port 8080, Using IM+ and setting the AIM port to 110 will allow you to connect, but remember it's only a few ports that are open and other programs might not have a setting to change ports for it to work with the Tzones proxy.
You can't (as yet) use 1 connection setting on the T-Mobile network using the T-Zones proxy workaround. I have been (tediously) using 2 connections.
(for internet)
T-Zones proxy
wap.voicestream.com
216.155.165.50:8080
(for mail)
T-Mobile Data
wap.voicestream.com
**no proxy settings**
I've been searching for a way to set up one connection to use which would automatically bypass and use a second connection if connectivity couldn't be established. No one seems to have an answer for this, but i'd love it if someone could figure it out!
I'm waiting as well...
I aked the same question and still waiting http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=340945
This happened after I flashed the latest TMO ROM, prior to that I had one connection for all my internet apps. Now my weather, and email don't need a proxy but PIE and Live search do what has changed?
I have a Vodafone branded X1 which I'm using with my T-Mobile sim. I have gone into the registry and unlocked the default connections (My ISP and WEB) and changed them to work with T-Mobile.
Opera, panels, IE and comm manager connect fine.
Messaging (Email), Windows Live, and Messenger all say they cannot connect (It doesn't even look like they try and connect)
It appears they have been set to only work with Vodafone's default settings, is there anywhere i can modify to make these work?
when you edited WEB and My ISP did you untick the connect to internet via proxy option? but leave this connection connects to internet checked
hotmail etc is working on my phone and the only changes i've made are the ones i gave you on the other thread, except I'm on o2.
Yep, I did all that and I still get problems, the message I get from Windows Live is "Windows Live was unable to establish an Internet connection. Please check your Internet settings and make sure that you have access to data services under your billing plan. If you need help, please contact your mobile service provider."
It doesn't even try to use the My ISP or WEB connections before it shows that message.
...
i had a similiar problem where only opera connected and not msn.
I removed all connections completely (do not only edit them) and restart and recreate.
then it started to work again..
ried removing all the connections completely and I still get the same issues with mail and messenger.
It looks to me like they aren't even trying to look for, or establish a connection before throwing the error
that's exactly how it looked to me, when I was trying to fix it last night. then it all fell into place. it almost looked like it new it wasn't going to work and couldn't be bothered trying! I think the last thing I did was disable connecting by proxy on the WEB connection.
I promise you it is something wrong with your settings and not with Live or Messaging.
I've tried everything I think I can with the connection settings, can you list your settings please eyebeebe?
I assume you're using these settings:
GPRS APN address: general.t-mobile.uk
Gateway (IP) address :149.254.1.10 (alt: 149.254.201.132)
Username : user (alt: wapuser)
Password: wap
Session type: Continuous / permanent
Port number: 8080 (alt: 9201)
Authentication: Normal
Is your Artemis on T-mobile? Can you mirror it's settings? For example you made need to connect via proxy and enter the Gateway IP address as above if you haven't already.
If you've done that already send me a PM and we can go through my settings on MSN...
Hello.
I have a HTC Touch (Elfin) and have recently gave up my option for 10MB Mobile Internet for a Vodafon Live option with 500MB included.
I realised then that the Vodafone Live connection implies using a http/wap proxy wich will only allow internet acces for the web browser (Internet Explorer as well as Opera or Opera Mini work fine) but not for other applications like Instant Messenger Clients, Games or other similar.
I would like to know first of all if there is a way of tricking that proxy connection so I can be able to use other applications with online functionality.
Secondly, if that is not possible (as I suspect) I would like to ask if there are other applications (besides internet browsers) that could youse a http connection for their purpose. Most important would be an Instant Messaging one with Yahoo protocol support.
Thank you for your help.
edit:
In case it matters, this aplies to Vodafone Romania.
For Vodafine Live, the apn is live.vodafone.com (user live, pass vodafone) and the proxy are only defined for http (with 8080 port) and wap (with 9201 port). Secure wap and socks proxy are undefined so probably cannot be used/
Same problem here. Help would be very apreciated to make aplications like outlook , messenger or VNC client to work with http proxy conection.
@glumetzu : incearca shmessenger , e facut de romani si merge pe Java
i have same issue, but there is a workaround kinda...
i came back to romania now to visit family and i got a sim card, number and prepaid data service with vodafone.
my apn is live.pre.vodafone.com, but uses the same user/pass and proxy settings and suggested above.
i noticed that once i connected with microsoft rdp, it wouldnt work. nor would my internet video security cameras from home, which all use different ports.
now here is the strange bit. using another apn without a proxy worked fine on the phone itself. i forget which one it was, and will not test now to find out. it was either live.vodafone.ro or live.vodafome.com but without using the proxy settings. it worked for me no problem. the problem was once i connected to the laptop to use the usb internet sharing. i took the money from the voice phone balance and after a few hours i was disconnected. both data and calls couldnt be made since the balance was -1.19 euro lol
anyways, point is there is an apn settings that seems to work on the phone only without limits in regards to ports or proxies. this worked fine without killing my account balance. it was only once i connected with the laptop that it killed it.
i'm currently researching on how the network gateways are able to detect this.
however using the proxy server with the apn live.pre.vodafone.com i am able to use my full 250mb package from the laptop without affecting the voice package account balance, not sure how or why this works but i have confirmed this in real-time while at a vodafone store in cluj. the sales lady had access to monitor voice and data usage for my account and we tested using the apn and proxy with the laptop. it didnt affect the voice plan money.
so for a quick answer, you can use a laptop and tether the connection. but be careful and double check ur balance after u download a test file using the laptop, just to make sure it wont kill ur account balance.
also, it works now. but for how long? more research is needed and maybe i need to play around with programs like ztunnel or an http proxy app that can tunnel ALL active connections from port to port and vpn through my home network. that would make it more secure and less likely to be picked up by the isp since they would only see port 80 activity going to one place all the time....
Hi ...
Im from Singapore. Just bought the phone from Starhub but Im actually using Singtel Service.
Status
Internet connection set up..
Can access internet via IE
Can receive email
Can access youtube or google maps..
Problem:
CANNOT access opera internet.. Connection issue..
Can anyone help me on this, please...
Thank you
I'm giving this a bump because I'm having a similar problem with Opera detecting my mobile network. I'm with Singtel as well and it seems there are a few data connection profiles a program can choose from, i.e. IDEAS Internet and IDEAS WAP (GPRS).
It looks like MSN Messenger is only able to connect via IDEAS Internet whereas Opera Mobile only recognises IDEAS WAP (GPRS). If I use NODATA to disable a profile, the respective application fails to connect to the internet.
My preference is to keep IDEAS Internet, but I can't figure out how to tell Opera Mobile to use that connection (even though it's already active). When I disable IDEAS WAP which Opera Mobile normally uses, the browser will tell me there's a network problem and won't even attempt to connect via another data connection profile. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Are you sure your Provider permits Opera browser usage? Some providers limit what browsers can work on their network, or require your browser to start with a sort of login page before browsing was permitted.
You might want to check that out by calling your network provider.
That was the case a few years ago with the Irish 3 and Vodafone networks.

Hi guys, im having some weird issues with my internet settings. as standard my tmobile connection is set to use a proxy server. now when it is using a proxy server and i try to send/receive on my email, it comes back saying it cannot connect with my current settings.
so i changed the settings to not use a proxy server and voilla! when i send/recieve it works fine. HOWEVER, without the proxy server, within 2 - 10 minutes the internet refuses to work and wont load any pages. at this point i have to renable the proxy server, but then i cant send/receive my email!
i cant beleive i have a £500 phone which i cannot use to check my email in peace which my 5 year old nokia can handle effortlessly.
has anyone else had these issues or come accross a fix for this??
The proxy server address I have for t-mobile UK (which works fine) is 149.254.201.132.
going into advanced it has
http: 149.254.201.132:8080
socks: 149.254.211.10:1080
try those settings.
thanks mate, i didnt have anything down under socks so im going to input these details now and see if this fixes it. In your advanced settings are you using socks4 or socks5?
Its Socks4
