Hey people, im sure many people here have a tomtom. Im from the UK so i use my traffic updates a lot as well as updating the speed cameras.
My question is; is there any way to pair up the htc dream with the tomtom so you can do the live services on the sat nav?
I have a rooted g1 with cyanogen rom. thanks
Search around in the forums as far as data and all that jazz....

hello guys..im a bit new to HTC..i recently bough HTC magic Sapphire (black color) from lowyat plaza malaysia...i almost paid 470$ USD for it mean 1600 rm
im really sad that i can't use the GPS function like google maps other thing
im from turkey ..GPS function very important to me since im not in my country
my android version is 1.5 unlocked...do my HTC magic support GPS..?
Yes, it has GPS. Unfortunately you cannot use it with google maps by itself. In order to use the google maps you will need a data plan or wi-fi available, the gps is used in google maps only combined with the data plan or wi-fi for street-level locating.
Also you can use some alternatives:
Copilot Live
Sygic
iGO My way - soon to come
All 3 above can run using only the built-in GPS receiver.
really thanks...dude..
thanks
thanks. really helpful post. just subscribed a data plan and going to try it. haha.
Hi Guys, I have only had this device a few days and I love it. I work for an airline so I do alot of travelling, so a GPS and cell phone are pretty much a necessity.
Previously I had the HTC Touch Vogue. I was able to bypass the data and go directly to GPS (I used both TomTom and NavnGo8). I am wondering if there is such an app that will allow me to do this without using my data plan?

i was planning on doing same, assuming the GPS issue is fixed satisfactorily. But i believe you can't run an app from the SD external card until android 2.2 comes out, which should be here in september
but i've noticed some folks in the GPS "fix" threads indicating they've tested their gps on CoPilot, nandroid, sygic and others, so i assume they were able to install the mapping apps on the internal 16GB mem storage
i'll be curious to see the responses to this question
I think Copilot allows you to pre-load maps without the need to have a constant data connection, ala the true gps units.
Never mind. Wrong forum.
Hi there
which gps software is best for samsung vibrant specially for middle east region i am staying in bahrain...
Please suggest thanks
Can you be more specific? Are you asking which app is best for determining how well your GPS is tracking and locking on to satellites? Or are you talking about the GPS software version that you might have in a rooted phone?
I think he means to ask which is the best app with middle-eastern maps so that he can use his GPS without needing a data plan (since he is probably outside T-Mobile coverage, lol).

so just wanted to install third party software for which i wanted to know the best app with middle east maps so that i can use gps without data plan....
As far as I know, there aren't that many options for android. I really liked iGo. It's a wonderful offline gps system, and with winmo it worked amazingly accurate and smooth. The problem is that the android version of iGo just sucks. The interface is horrible (a la linux 1999, no kidding). But it works and the maps are great. You can find it here on xda.
Edit: what's his majesty position on gps usage within the country? :-D
I apologize for asking this newbie question. I understand that it may have been asked a bunch of times before (I even searched for 'best navigation TMOUS'), but searching isn't too helpful.
Can you all share your experiences with the various (free or reasonably priced) TMOUS HD2 navigation applications? I am not interested in TeleNav and its outrageous subscription model.
I am using an AT&T GoPhone SIM with my HD2 (no network data usage), if it matters at all. All replies are appreciated.
Ya, I couldn't find the the thread I was thinking of that discussed this either. Before I found that bing worked for my needs (data connection needed) I was going to go with Copilot Live 8. I believe you could preload maps onto the SD card which you are going to need it to do. Its been a while so I'm not sure if it had that functionality or not. Another to look at would be Tom Tom which I don't remember much about though I know it is available. Hope that at least gets you on the right track.
I use TomTom Navigator 7...absolutely flawless navigation program. Takes up a gb or about on the SD card. With our 1Ghz processor, it's silky smooth and is quite fast at acquiring satellites from the HD2's built in GPS, and calculating routes. I don't even use my external bluetooth GPS anymore.
Coming from the 8125 (200 Mhz), and the i780/i907 (600 Mhz), the HD2 has been the best all in one device for me, especially with the TomTom program. I started out with TT5 back in the day, then used TT6 on the Samsungs, and now use 7 on the HD2.
Hi, got my new HD2 last week. Getting used to the capacitive screen coming from an XDA IIi.
The h/p socket at the bottom is not very good design and I'm hoping a new case will alleviate the discomfort when typing. However, I understand there isn't a flip case that also accommodates an extended battery? Any suggestions?
Also, any good charger/case/car kit bundles in the UK? I thought I saw one on MobileFun but can't find it now. Are any of the eBay Hong Kong ones any good?
There's a lot I don't like about WM 6.5, particularly the fact that Word crashes documents that worked fine on the XDA. Plenty of rough joins, where they bolted Apple catch-up stuff onto the underlying engine.
Is there a free SatNav for WM or Android, if I bite the bullet and install a new SPL/Radio? Are there ones with offline maps for Europe as well as UK so I don't incur data charges? If there are no free ones which would be the best paid one?
Thanks!
Free SatNav for Android = GoogleMaps
Or this trial version http://navigon-mobilenavigator.en.softonic.com/pocketpc
I use the paid version of Navigon. It just works really well...
I use the paid version of Copilot. Works fantastic.
I use iGO8. It's fantastic.
Thanks for the replies.
Am I right that if the maps are offline, the satellite will not be charged as roaming data abroad?
If so which of the above programs actually have offline maps?
Cheers

Go for TomTom.
If you are running any version of WinMo6.5, then find and install NoData. This can be set to stop all mobile data connections but leaves WiFi still available for data connections.
