Create customized ROM image

Hi!
Is it possible, to create a customized ROM image for artemis (and charmer)? what do i need, to achieve it?
Best,
Chris
Hi, you need to read this (will take time)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=348536
Everybody says it takes time but that's nonsense if you are not talking about HUGE modifications like replacing integrated programs that are already integrated into the registry or whatever.
I'm currently working on video tutorials which will be done between 15.-28 February. I can customize my ROM in less than 5 minutes as soon as I have all my packages. If I change the packages I need maybe half an hour or so. This weekend I will publish my first small video.
I currently use this in combination with my packages: http://www.ppc-welt.info/community/showthread.php?t=121552
If you know how do dump a ROM with HyperCore Kitchen then you can replace those files I guess and cook your own ROM. You might as well wait until February and not get confused by all the strange and overloaded tutorials out there. I'm not saying that they are bad but they often include EVERYTHING and makes the general ROM newbie confused.
Basically you need to download a ROM, dump it, add some packages and flash it again - that's how I do it.
thanks for your help!
i installed the latest rom from the ftp-directory und now my storage memory is only 32mb, before this it was 48 mb... why is this? can i influence it?
best, chris
I've now created a new os.nb and it works fine. thanks...
how can i manipulate the the splashscreen? i haven't found any infos in the cookbooks except the tools to change it. but i want to change them in nbh-file.

Mobile Justice ROM Intergration

Does anyone one know how to integrate Mobilejustice into a ROM. I have seen a few threads regarding wm5 but none for wm6.
Thanks
After a lot of reading on these forums and a fair few ROM updates ive managed to add a fully working OEM of mobile justice to the polaris shipped ROM.
Could you explain how?
Thanks!

He can't. He's Bluffing. Look at his signature.
Hi
Whats up with my signature
First you need to finish creating the mobile justice OEM ready to be added to your rom. Ive attacted my OEM without the settings (mjc.bin) file included as thats only relevent to my polaris.
To create OEM
1 Install and fully test mobile justice with the settings you want to use because once its been added to your new rom you will not be able to make any changes.
2 When your happy with you settings find the mjc.bin file in your windows and save it to your pc.
3 Extract the attached setupMJustice folder and add the mjc.bin file.
You have know created the OEM ready to be cooked.
I used the KaiserKitchen software to add my OEM to the ROM which you can get from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=343044
Also look at
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=OEM Package Tutorial
Dont have time tonight to wright a full description on how to extract, cook, build and then flash a rom. But if anyone needs some instructions i'll post them tomorrow.
Hawk
why is ROM integration better than normal installation?
Normal installation can be easily removed but if it cooked into the ROM only a reflash will remove it. It just makes it a little harder for a thief to know its installed and try to get rid of it.

stable wm6

which wm6/6.1 release is more stable?
Why not try them and see?
So many people come on here looking to be spoon fed...people will tolerate it up to a point, but then wont bother.
You really should try them yourself and test them...try reading through the relevant threads and see what people are saying about them.
they all are... tried and tested by many....
some have bugs(unsupported features)
and you can find all of them in this forum.
it only depends on what you install on them.
i hv tried all and think that the clean version of wm6.1(6.1.02 DVH) without Ramdisk is best cause it has both the netcf and office(excel+word) and also the mystrious theme for media player. All other version either hv the netcf or the office and the version without netcf requires the netcf to run their primary applictions (GettingStarted, calc, usb hdd, etc.) so u hv to loose ur 5mb to run them.
In clean version gettingStarted is removed to put office as it is more important.
So give it a chance u will find it worth.

it seems you have a lot of pocketpc's. is the blue angel one of them? you cannot use a ROM not intended for your device.
i only have a BA and 575 SP.
sorry for asking, i'm too busy now with work.
i also like wm6.1 without ramdisk, but i'm confuse with the extrom they're talking about.
do i really have to install extrom?
and is there a way to put all installed programs and contacts, messages to storage card?
thanks for your big HELP.

you can opt NOT to install extrom. just don't copy the folder (and its contents) to your storage card, so it won't install when you upgrade ROM's.
i'm not sure if you can copy all programs to the storage card, so you can put them back when you upgrade.
a) if you have exe files, then it is ok.
b) but if these programs came from cab files, then you can use the EXTROM to install these straightaway. or you can install them one by one
c) otherwise, you have to install them from your computer.
with respect to contacts and messages, this post is your answer: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1189061&postcount=1
i have pda2k, which has 128 ram and 64mb rom (accdg to gsmarena). is extrom already included in the 64mb rom? the xdaIIs has 96mb rom (44mb available).
the extrom folder from the sd has cab files which is to be installed automatically when you upgrade your rom, is that it?

Simple: The ones without any additional cruft, bling, or dancing monkeys added.
Remember - most if not all of these ROMs are based on the same fundamental base (barring the fakes, or hacks). It's generally only what the ROM chefs personally want to have added which makes the difference. And even those things can be 'fixed' or overwritten with installers/CABs.
I've had my philosophical 'rant' already ...

i think u should check the wiki first.
Storage(60)-Storage available (44)=Extendedrom(16)
so u dont hv 96mb its 60 mb only. and before upgrading do not forget to merge extended rom to available storage to get more space.
thanks for correcting me.
i also read about page pool, i think the ext rom is used for that, does it really improved performance?
how can i backup and reinstall my original rom?

Cooking A new Rom

Hello & good morning Every body.
I need a lot of answers to Cook a WM6.1 rom. here are my questions :-
1- How can I convert Cab files into OEM ?
-------------------------------------------
2- How can I modify them to relocate the short cuts to different folders ?
-------------------------------------------
3- How can I delete the Help files from it?
-------------------------------------------
4- what are the tools I need in cooking a rom ?
-------------------------------------------
5- How can I add the OEM packages in the rom ?
-------------------------------------------
6- How can I delele the programs or files that I don't need from the rom ?
-------------------------------------------
7- Do I have to modify the registery and how can I do that ?
-------------------------------------------
8- I read that the net compact framework 3.5 is better than the 2.0, so how can I replace the 2.0 by the 3.5 ?
-------------------------------------------
9- I like the Spb mobile shell and the other Diamond skins for the windows applications like the dialer, the calculaters , contacts and the Windows media player. So how can I merge this application to start as the today screen and how can I replace the windows skins with the diamond skins ? what are their pathways?
-------------------------------------------
10- How can I replace the File explorer with the resco Explorer ?
-------------------------------------------
11- How can I create new folders in the start menu ?
-------------------------------------------
12- If I don't need the ram disk can I blend it with the rom ? I mean the programmes memory and If it possible will the device be faster ?
-------------------------------------------
I know that these are boring questions and It may waste your time but forgive me I'm just a newbie .....
Just finished the 5th medicine year ,, so If you need my help in medicine I'll be here for you......
My device is Himalaya ( Qteck 2020 )...
please answer my questions in detailed fashion ....
the help files are html documents.
you can find it in the dump folder.
to cook a rom, you will need a kitchen or a decompiler
the registry settings are in the dump folder.
you can edit them by using the windows editor
It's a bit difficult
Thanx for replying ,,, but which kitchen or decomplier should I use ?!
what is a dump folder ?!
if someone can make a tutorial doc with sceen shots that helps me to Learn it will be surely appreciated......
but Even If I cook A new rom I need to add some cabs to it so how can I do that ?!!!
For a start, I think the Himalaya forum may have some helpful info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=243
This thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=378987 has a link to the kitchens for the Himalaya.
thanx l3v5y
o.k. these are the kitchens but infact I'm not professional in using them in other words I need some on do demonistrate the steps to me ?
I need to create my own packages from the cab files I have ,,,, so plz can some one EXPLAIN it to me ?
by the way I think cooking roms or reprogramming is more difficult than studing Medicine ......
On the first point, I think trying things out is probably the fastest way to learn... Make small changes, see what happens, and then make bigger changes.
To create OEM packs, you need something like ervius' package tool. here
You need to load the cab file (press the button to do so), and then that will open "MSCEInf". In that program, you'll need to extract the files (It's a button on the top tool bar) to the default location, then close that program and follow the options through with the package creator.
Real progressing
o.k. let's say that I wanna use Avis 6.1 kitchen I'm downloading it but the problem is taht It comes with Chekhar's Rom ( 19199 ) but I wanna use PDAviet WM6.1 ( 19213 ) ?
So how can I replace the chekhar's rom ?
and how can I put the package in the rom ( just coping ) or by using a special too ?
and How can I delete some softs from the rom ?
Could you demonistrate an Example here with explanatory Pictures> I'm just a newbie
Thanx l3v5y So much

That doesn't apply well to the Himalaya, as there is a different ROM structure...

I'm sorry, but I have no idea about the details of Himalaya cooking... I can do Prophets, but not them...
I'd suggest asking in one of the Hima threads, or maybe a mod could move this?
Unblievable

If I could be more help, I would!
I think that kitchen may only be able to use that ROM... Try one of the other kitchens... You'll need to dump the ROM and then rebuild it...
My Brain is getting Fried
Plz at least , I need someone to help me to package my cabs...
I do have the Package Creator, I even Packaged a cab but the problem is I need to delete some files ,, such as help one and I need to replace / relocate some inks also when I'd packaged it I didn't find the resultant file although it was saying packaging completed successsfully.....
I've been reading the tutorial on wiki and some threads provided in the forum but, I did not understand anything although the manual method looks somehow easier than the automated method using the creator program but it takes a long time with someone impatient like me.....
what I need is an Example demonisterated thoroughly and precisely .
since I'm using the Quickmenu I had been sorting my softs into many folders , Multimedia , Utilities , readers , E-Books, etc but some of these softs are installed on my SD card because of shortage of Storage Memory ( Device one ). It's just a 30MB. So if there is any Expert in packaging issue to help me or and that's unfortionate I'm gonna give up the whole Idea of Cooking and baking....
Thanx brothers.

Here is WM6.5 packages list: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4268166&postcount=5
You can find which ones are required and which ones are optional. Also, if you use Ondraster kitchen it shows these in it's list.
And finally, if you have more questions and need to know more details feel free to submit them.

I have some queries, since this thread is related to removal of modules, I am not wasting another thread :
1. I do not need Titanium, will it cause any problem (stability related), if I delete Bronze, bronzeNonEA and CHome from Sys?
2. I have removed LockScreen, LockScreenNonEA (SYS), LockScreenAppLauncher, PACKAGE_MEGA_LockScreenAppLauncher_Default_Skin (EXT Folder). But still Windows Default is an option in the Settings->Lock drop down list box, any way to remove it?
3. In Ervius Kitchen what is OS ID (0x400 it takes as default for Mega) and Chunk (64) ?
BTW I am using osKitchen and cooking for HTC Mega T3320.
Please revert back if possible
1.- Its ok to remove that pkgs to get rid of titanium... That will cause you... gain 3MBRAM more.
2.- Yes to get rid of the lock screen you will have almost 2 more MB RAM free for your rom... and the default windows mobile WM5 lock screen... cant be disabled...
3.- I always have this question so i cant answer you.
