mods feel free to move:
i'm an experienced Win32 software developer wanting to get into the phone space and would like some direction on where to go for...
1. getting educated on extracting, building, cooking ROMS (kitchens, SPL, etc). what does someone from my background need to know in making this transition?
2. specifically, i will be decommissioning my BJ1 in exchange for the Fuze. i'd like to learn by hacking on the BJ1 since i'm nervous about bricking my soon-to-be new Fuze. please point me to an area where i can extract a BJ1 ROM and recook it in some kitchen for practice (i only see a Samsung WM61 upgrade for BJ1 and nothing about just the ROM or any other attempts to cook prior versions)
3. i've played with VS and have some simple apps for WM - is there anything else i should know about developing .NET CF apps? any third-party tools helpful in this regard?
Thanks!
Hello,
I have done a search on the forum and could not find information about this.
I am looking for considerations to make when planning to upgrade an application I'm going to develop, that is going to be part of the device ROM.
As with Google Voice, Facebook and other applications that are present on the device ROM, I understand that an upgrade "shadows" the ROM installed version and uses the new version after upgrading.
Do I need to do something special with the application manifest or any other part of it to allow this "shadowing" or is it done automatically?
Hi,
Is there a way of getting custom ROMs on the the AVD?
I see that its partially possible using the ROM from HTC (as shown here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4232807&postcount=9), but I want to create my own using builds from http://developer.htc.com/index.html or some of the ROMs provided here.
This will help me try and develop come code as currently the Android SDK's are missing parts like the Maps applications etc.
Thanks.
Not to worry, found it finally!
Its on this topic:

There seems to be al lot of "confusion" on what to post where. Here's how we order the HD2 section:
Windows Mobile:
[HD2 General] WinMo information, news etc.
[HD2 Q&A] WinMo specific questions
[ROM Development] Windrows ROMs
Android:
[HD2 Android General] Android information, news etc.
[Android Development] android projects and ROMs
[HD2 Android Q&A] Android specific questions
Mixed:
[HD2 Themes & Apps] Themes and user-developed apps (Mixed!)
[HD2 Accessories] Docks, headphones, carkitts, batteries etc. (Mixed!)
yes, it would be more easily fore new users to have separate thread's fore there themes.
The hole Leo group is growing, so we need some categorize.
Not a wise design. The problem with trying to improve something is, sometimes you make it unusable and complicated. You are making things harder by trying to make them easier. I thought it was the speciality of Microsoft.
I think the idea is brilliant. There's a WinMo themes/apps section, there should definitely be an Android one.
Let me clarify, the question is not "Would you like to have another forum?", the question is "Is it needed?".
I'm sure if another forum is thrown in most users will accept, but are there problems in HD2 specific android themes and apps that would be solved by separating the two T&A fora? Remember we have a T&A for all android devices in the D&H Android section (for all non-device specific WVGA themes for example).
Are there even themes on HD2 that do not work on other devices?

Click to collapse
For now this isn't the winmo T&A but it's for both,

No. You can find Android themes and apps all over this place in other sub forums. No need for a specific HD2 section. Lets think out of the box and visit the desire forum for instance.
i want know please
hi erverybody
i want know somthink
can i change my rom ChuckyROMs to rom ANDROID ,(we dont copy android to sd ),,???
and thank you everybody in xda devlopers
and the best thanks to devlopers of this website
I think it would be nice to have. It would allow modders to post themes and skins that are install-friendly for the HD2.
When I looked for different themes or mods on other non-hd2 threads, most needed to be flashed from recovery (which can't be done for the HD2 android builds).
thank you
what is the best rom windows mobile for RUN android ,,?
i have ChuckyROMs it is very good for run android to my phone htc HD2 leo;,,????
magldr boot problem
hi
i'm new to android and to xda, my first experience was with NexusHD2-Gingerbread V3.3a native sd, i read about flash zip files from recovery to update the rom as this ROM can't read Arabic,i go to ad recovery and found nothing there, so i install MAGLDR_CWM_Recovery_v3.2.0.0_for_NexusHD2_135M, and flash update as i want, but now i can't boot automatically to nexus, its stop on maglder menu and load after choose boot adsd , any idea to make it boot normally ?
Hi,
firstly, i have to say, i didn't found a correct section, but this seems to be the most properly, although i could be a noob. If my posting wasn't correct, i hope you will forgive me & move my post in the right section.
In the next months I'd like to start porting CM11 or/and Android 4.4 to my Xperia J, respectively learn how android system works. In this case i thought it would be helpful, if i learn more about Java, especially because i'm learning C# since one year in school.
Really, I'm not interested in "trivial" things things like how to program a own launcher.
(I'd never done something like that, i'm just not interested in.)
My interestings are deeper, e.g. about the implemention of GPRS (want to remove that without damaging the system), the general system settings(want also to modify something in there), the new permission manager in android 4.4, the interaction with the sim card in CM & the original android & their differences(e.g. my Sim only works in android, not in CM), their code & their connection to each other.
Which parts of Android are written in Java, C & C++? (I know the Kernel is wirtten in C, but thats all)
Can you give me some sources about this?
Have you some suggestions what i could do?
Would something like that here:
http://www.amazon.com/Embedded-Android-Porting-Extending-Customizing/dp/1449308295
be helpful?
Or would be something like that better for my project:
http://www.amazon.com/The-Linux-Programming-Interface-Handbook/dp/1593272200/
http://www.amazon.com/Building-Embedded-Linux-Systems-Yaghmour/dp/0596529686/
?
Thanks in advance.
Edit: This Guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2620389 is a good source, but im still wondering.
