Brasilian HTC Magic comes with Sense UI - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Found this on another forum:
http://www.htc.com/br/product/htc-magic/overview.html
What do you think? We'll soon get the update?

Really interesting.
This means that it can be updated soon officially, but even if that update is not released to public I guess ROM cookers could take it as base for new unofficial ROM's.

Wow, great news thanks mate! This really means we will get an update shortly

I'm really looking forward to that update, Sense will boost the Magic experience extremely
Go HTC! Release it!

It does look smoother but, not much to go from. Hopefully if this is true it might mean the ROM should be released for current phones with the old ROM.
Given that the new ROM is already out in the wild, you're a little late with this!

Dave
Hahaha I knew I was missing something! Silly me
Go ahead and lock this. Sorry for failing at searching. I'm surprised none of the major cellphone blogs (including Android Blogs) haven't picked up on this update.
Yeah, but that is leaked ROMs, right?
This is the first official launch with the updated ROM, so I count that as news!

It makes "Sense"...

As many of you out there, I’m also eagerly waiting for the HTC upgrade to give my Magic its well deserved Sense UI. I also saw the Taiwanese HTC website and a launch date op 30/10 for the Magic with Sense UI. However I think (hope & pray ) that HTC will release the ROM upgrade combined with Android 1.6
It does make “Sense” right?
it would make even more sense with an official announcement or confirmation
It's out in Brazil too. We're all waiting for the official announcement from HTC and the Sense-equipped development image.

tick tock come on HTC

how long does it take to update Sence UI for Android 2.0
urgh im dying to get the update 1.5 is so buggy with stuff
they have to release it for their other handsets as well - tattoo etc - they may also be working on a way to get 2.0 on the magic as well. It all takes time!

1.5 isnt that bad, I don't see the update coming this year (but still hoping for it)
Patience is a virtue or something like that
I bet that the first 2.0 release will have way more bugs than the current 1.5 (2.73.405.66) version
Hope not...

I personally hope we wunt have to rely on Custom Roms to make it faster.
I'm delighted with 1.5 on sense UI as it is, still think its better over stock 2, but I do like pretty things, don't mind waiting a bit longer, maybe they will release it Christmas day
with the leaked 2.1 update to some of the devs, it just got more intense like.
Personally I think that the existence of a leaked "official HTC" 2.1 build for Hero is very encouraging. I'm sure we'll find out more about it over the next few days as those devs who have the build play around with it, but it shows that HTC are definitely working on it and that a release probably isn't too far away.
That being said, I'm personally still happy with the Hero's "sensified" Cupcake build anyway!

Dave
It's more like Donut, don't you think? CDMA support, gestures.. even Facebook integration from 2.0.
id prefer if they took an extra month or two if we could get some speed optimisations/memory optimisations on their lovely widgets

Android 2.1 Update for HTC hero is postponed to April

http://www.i-newswire.com/htc-hero-to-get-android-2-1-update/26667 --> Says that the much awaited 2.1 update for HTC Hero is postponed to the month of April.. :-(
Please some one say this is wrong.. I m hitting their support site thrice a day.. (UK, Orange)
Makes sense with the impending release of the legend and with the fact that even the milestone has not yet had its 2.1 update.
The wait continues.
Edit: that article is just stupid anyway read the last paragraph....

hehe Nexus One is a HTC device so "never buying HTC devices again" but "Buying Nexus One" is kinda stupid
Although I must say, I would prefer Nexus One over the Desire just because I know Google will "always" make sure it'll get new software updates and the Desire updates will be postponed just like the Hero ones due to business agreements and SenseUI issues and more...
I have been using Legends n Eris's ROMS ported onto Hero, so far.. But all that I want is a stable 2.1 ROM from HTC.. Instead of releasing new phones like Legend (Which is just a metal upgrade for HTC Hero + 1GHz proc) they should have concentrated on releasing update for Hero which has a large customer base. And I even read somewhere that Both Sprint Hero n GSM Hero have won awards in their respective categories.. This aint happening..

This isn't a press release - it's rumour and supposition, the same as all the rumour threads on this site.
It may well be that the update doesn't come until April, but this poorly written article isn't an official HTC missive and therefore should be treated as hearsay at best and a fabrication at worst.

To get more on this, I myself has drafted a mail to HTC CC.. will post their reply once they come back to me.
Don´t bother, the shipped rom works wery well and with no MMS/GPS/Sound/ problems!

Thats your opinion, I am very happy running the custom 2.1 rom that I currently am and it has no issues at all (at least not for me)

Latest reply from HTC Customer Care regarding 2.1 Update for HTC Hero
New Response From [ Anthony (UK - Ireland Support (Tech)) ]
Dear Customer,
We understand that now that a phone running Android OS 2.1 is available that you are excited to get an update for your Hero. We are still hard at work building Sense for this new version but we expect to have the upgrade finished and ready to go soon. Please understand that it takes time to customize any Android version to ensure you have the intuitive experience Sense provides, and we hope you can be patient for just a little while longer.
Kind Regards,
Anthony M

Inquiry Description Hi, I have been waiting for Android 2.1 Update for my HTC Hero from last 3 months. All that I have got is news of update being getting postponed. Recent one told me that the update is coming in "LATE APRIL". :-( Harsha S
Issue Date & Time
2010/03/17 10:05
I think that HTC should schedule two differents update for each android device, one with clean android OS and optimized drivers focused on specific hardware, and one with optimized senseUI and others HTC customizations... in that case, it could follow OS upgrade very fast and satisfy who want to be updated with OS, and then take all required time to optimize and develop custom UI...
anyway... it is exciting to test and try custom 2.1 roms and the developers here at xda are doing a great work!
but it is also frustrating to wait for HTC official update!
Yeah getting access to a new kernal would be nice
Is this update so important???
We can flash HERO with a good working port rom and we have 2.1
I do not see the problem haha

Sure we have some nice 2.1 roms at the moment but they are inherently buggy with things that will definitely be fixed when we can lay our hands on an official rom things like battery life and 3d graphics.

I've seen that too! I've seen all the threads, and not one of them has an "official" date in it.
The simple fact of the matter is that HTC customer care do not have a clue. Take anything you read as coming from them with a large pinch of salt.
Regardless, this doesn't change the fact that the "press release" you linked to is clearly not an official HTC statement.

dave
What!?
Ok so this has pi**ed me off. I have been waiting for the 2.1 official update to be released now for a LONG time - the issue really is that it was "meant" to come around about now (mid March). It's the fact that it's seeming been pushed back and now artificially put on hold because they don't want to affect the freaking Leg-end. I'd much rather they just announced the update wil be available on a specific date - 23rd July for e.g. and then if it's early its a bonus. They must be aware/accept that Android users are going to be more tech-savvy than most and will therefore not appreciate being jerked around and left in the lurch while users of other Android handsets have 2.1 already and have for a while now = no real technical reason for the delay as far as I'm concerned.
Having said all the above - what do HTC care? If someone from HTC reads these forums then the above is my 2 cents and I think they would create a lot of GOODwill instead of resentment if they were more transparent with their customers. I'm seriously doubting whether to buy HTC or HTC made again because I *like* to be up-to-date with functionalities etc. A platform like Android was *made* to be upgradeable and improved upon and this is a clear case of HTC's beuracracy getting in the way of their customer service. They don't have to do jack sh*t for their customers though because of course once you've bought a phone you're usually locked in - but they sure as hell could learn a thing or two about engendering customer appreciation and loyalty.
So there will be people out there who think "What's the problem?! Your phone runs fine!" Well if you're asking that question then you're probably not reading this forum in the first place because then why would you have any interest in phone OS development and all the joys it brings.
I hope this report is wrong. I hope the ROM comes very soon because I guarantee HTC (not that they care) that delaying it much longer will do quite a lot to put people off their SenseUI phones and HTC in general. Apple is due to release 4.0 soon and Microsoft is about to unleash Winmo7 series so it's not like there's a lack of competition.
You all know what i MEAN - even if i didn't say it right!
I haven't yet found a single 2.1 rom that is stable enough to use daily and that includes my respect and reverence for the talent and hard work that goes into making these cooked roms.
Ola!

Except for the fact that the Legend and the Desire *prove* that Sense for 2.1 is already complete! Even if you can't buy one off the shelf today, if they are going to be available at the end of this month, they are already built, boxed, and probably with retailers right now.

Unless they need to make some changes for the hero that we haven't considered?
Can't think what though
What's wrong with 1.5?
Why is everyone so desperate to get 2.1 on their Hero. The 1.5 ROM works very well for me anyway and I don't have any battery or any other problems.
I've tried all the various 2.1 ROMs on this board and while they are very well done I haven't found any to have the battery life of 1.5 so have always reverted back to the shipped ROM.
Now if 1.5 was full of bugs then I could understand all the fuss. As it's not - I can't.
Don't get me wrong I shall upgrade to 2.1 as soon as it's released I just can't understand the rush.
Is there some "must have" facility that I'm missing on the 2.1 ROM?

Update on Desire Z getting official GB ....

this is the transcipt of chat between a guy named Hemant Tailor and HTC customer service UK. he posted on the HTC uk wall... im just copy pasting here....
Hemant Tailor
Conversation with HTC UK support on chat...not looking good for 2.3 update on Desire Z:-
Please wait while we find an agent to assist you...
All agents are currently busy. Please stand by.
You are currently at position number 4 in the queue.
An agent will be with you in a moment. Thank you for your patience.
You are currently at position number 4 in the queue.
You have been connected to Georgina.
Georgina: Hi hemant, thank you for contacting HTC Support.
hemant tailor: hi gina
Georgina: Currently we do not have a date for when this is going to be released
hemant tailor: i thought it was gonna be by the end of the month
hemant tailor: ....
Georgina: We do not know
Georgina: when we do we will inform all customers
hemant tailor: is scheduled for the desire z
hemant tailor: will the desire z get the 2.3 GB update???
Georgina: it will we just do not know when
hemant tailor: Not impressed.....bye
Georgina: Thank you for contacting us, I hope you have a great day
guys we are just **** out of luck.... all HTC care about is to kiss sprint customers ass... nothing else.... providing updates to Evo Evo 3D and Merge... thats their world... all the other ppl dont matter
Edit: just did live chat myself.... here it is....
Ian: Hi Muneeb, thank you for contacting HTC Support. How may I help you today?
Muneeb : hello
Muneeb : i want to know when should we expect gingerbread update for desire Z
Ian: The update to 2.3 should be available later this year.
Muneeb : previously it was told that the desire Z should get update before end of june . that no longer holds true correct?
Ian: I apologise I am unable to confirm this, I would advise you to look on our website for any updates as to when this is released.
Muneeb : okay.
Eh, I'm a bit more optimistic. These days, updates and such hardly ever come out at the planned release date. It makes sense from their standpoint to upgrade other phones too. There are so many more people on the Evo than on the G2/DZ for example, so it makes sense to upgrade the devices with the most users. Even if we don't get it officially or it doesn't come for a long time, we will still get custom ROMs with the updates.
the Dev community is the only reason im still using my desire Z . but this is definitively my last HTC device for sure..... i rather go with a developer edition phone (nexus series) next time.. or get myself nokia powered windows phone 7....(if they bring out some really really sweet hardware like the Sea Ray)
I can't live without the HTC Dialer. I like the Mail app much better too than stock. And there is massive dev support; I don't really see a downside to a HTC phone.
I am happily running Virtuous Unity 1.26 and its pretty near perfect!
You think HTC is bad with updates? Good luck with any other brand, much much worse.

Not to mention that HTC don't seem to tell the customer service anything regarding future updates. This has happened time again.
Ps, I've also had the "updates from other brands" rant many a time.. HTC are one of the better ones.
This is a bit of a letdown, but I know we'll get some nice ROMs for the Desire Z, so I'm not that worried.
Is it true that, from a developers point of view, being able to use an official HTC gingerbread rom will make for a much more stable foundation for future custom roms? That's always been the main reason why I've been hoping HTC release this update even though we currently have custom gingerbread roms.
Actually i am starting to lose faith about Htc's software division.
I credit them for making incredibly good phones, but their software division seems not to be the best. For example: They said on their Facebook page that they had abandoned the work on getting 2.3 on the old Desire, and when alot of people (including me) commented on that post about that people at XDA-Developers had gotten 2.3 to work on the old Desire several months ago, then Htc went out with "We WILL release 2.3 for the Desire, we started working on it again"
That made me doubt their competence in the software area...
and also i read that: Htc are only obliged to send out OTA updates the first 18 months after a product is released, so if the model you bought is more than 18 months, then you shouldn't be so sure to get any updates at all =/
btw, why wait for an official 2.3 when there is several good working 2.3 roms here at xda?
