Powered up to Raindow Screen by itself??? - Touch CDMA General

When I powered up my HTC Vogue, it went to the Red/Blue/Green screen by itself. I didn't write down the numbers on the top of the screen, but it had COKE on the end. I believe it might be the COKE Unlocker. The phone was not connected to the PC, so I simply did a soft reset. Phone reset to the normal screen.
Is there a way to determine what unlocker was used on the phone? It was obtained from a previous owner who did say it was unlocked so I could "flash" ROMs, but didn't say what he used. Can't get in touch with him.
Don't want to mess up the phone trying to ID whatever COKE is on the phone.
Any ideas on why it came up by itself after almost 6 months using the phone??? Can it do an harm now?
Thanks.

The only new program I added yesterday was "Where is" a GPS locator. Same developer as ifonz2 and Androkkid.

That would be the bootloader screen. I can't answer why it would do it on it's own. I've only seen it happen to people when they had a failed ROM flash. You can, however do it on your own. By holding the Power, Camera, and using the stylus to push the Soft Reset button, it will bring up the Tri-Colored bootloader screen. You can do that on your own to find out what version of Coke it's booting with. I know the SPL-2.31.Coke is for GPS enabled CDMA devices. SPL-0.4.Coke is for nonGPS CDMA devices. Most of the time the only difference between the GPS vs nonGPS is the radio version loaded on your phone. People have upgraded their radio software to enable GPS on phones like Verizon branded Vogues, being that Verizon likes to cripple things like GPS on non World phones.
By being able to tell us that it is a Coke bootloader, you have confirmed that you can indeed load a custom ROM to your phone.

Color screen
canyoufindben,
It is indeed the Coke bootloader for CDMA:
VOGU 1100 MFG
SPL 2.3.1 Coke
CPLD3
It was pretty easy bringing up the screen.
MY HTC is Sprint with GPS unlocked by the upgrade to 6.1
At least I know that I can flash a new ROM if desired. Problem now is most of the new apps still do not run with 6.5
Maybe in time....we'll see.
Thank you for your help.
Sorry it took a few days to respond. I have been a bit busy.

CINGULAR 8525 (aka herm100) unlocking FRUSTRATION IS MAKING ME ###[email protected]#$#

Hi folks...
so i sold my blackberry pearl and added 100.00 for a nice cingular 8525. i needed to unlock this phone so i came across "pof" tutorial and methods of unlocking myself.. i went through the process thinking i did have 1.04 radio because when i go to bootloader (tri color screen) it shows IPL 1.04 and spl-shipped.. so i thought 1.04 was the version... the tutorial mentions spl-xxx is the version but mine says shipped.. (whats with that? ) so basically i followed the steps and later got sucess word and punched in the code given by "pof" but it didn't work and now says "you have tried 6 times and wait until time"
so i don't want to screw this up anymore so come to you guys for help..
so i went to the device system menu
and radio version says 1.48
rom version is 3.0
win 6 mobile
phone is cingular and my sim card is tmobile
so i guess i have 1.48 and not 1.04 that is needed to unlock myself... so i heard if i don't have 1.04 i need to get the imei number and get the unlock code so i went to http://www.wirelessunlocks.com/ and hopefully the code they give me will work.. i paid 7.99 for this service..
so my questions.
1. since i followed "pof" instructions and got sucess at the end.. despite having a 1.48 radio version... did i permanently damage my phone? or i think the word is "bricking".
2. Wirelessunlocks.com i used... to get the code number (which hasn't come yet) does these services have a high sucess rate?
3. if the wirelessunlocks.com service doesn't seem to work.. what are my other options? perhaps i can downgrade to 1.04 from 1.48 ? or any method so i can start using this phone will be great.. has been very frustrating...process but i'm learning
I hope this helps!
When I first unlocked AT&T 8525 my phone, I read up all the articles on how it could be bricked, and by the time I finished reading them, I figured, well.....if my phone bricks....then, it was meant to be, lol. I used the pof unlocker v3a the day I got my phone, and it worked. I have no idea what version of spl, or ipl I had before, but the way that they talk about it on the site, it seems that its safe to use with any HERM100 phone. Oh, and I found this video on the pof site. http://youtube.com/watch?v=4lA9S9ELSAU Let me know how things go! Oh, and when your phone is a brick, it means that it is useless, whether it be that when you turn it on, it freezes at the startup screen and never loads windows, or whether it doesnt turn on anymore, or any state that seems hopeless. I think that if your phone enters a state where it keeps going to the bootloader mode, that it still can be saved, but I'm not 100% sure. If anyone else reads this and disagrees, please correct me! Oh, and when you get your phone unlocked, feel free to contact me about any cool things you wanna do to it. I got about 6 months of experience now, lol. Doesn't come close to some of the senior members who create their own roms now, lol, but I can still be of help!
Ok, monkeyisland90, radio rom has got NOTHING to do with unlocking the hermes. Its the IPL & the SPL. To see these go into bootloader screen. How to do so are in Pofs instructions.... Follow the instructions STEP by STEP and you cant go wrong. A large number of people have done this successfully (including myself) so you should have no trouble. Most people "skip ahead" and thats how you will get into hot water. Try again and I think, if you go step by step, you will have no trouble. Dont forget to install hard SPl on before upgrading roms though. It'll help if things go wrong( and they will at least once) to recover your Phone. If the radio rom seems to work ok and there is no real battery drain LEAVE IT ALONE... This is probably the riskiest part to flash as a failure generally means a brick. Most, if not all, cooked roms dont include a radio so can be considered safer to flash. Personally I prefer to use the sd card method of flashing as there has been less problems for me with this method but it comes down to personel preference. Happy Flashing......
but when going to the bootloader (tricolor screen) it says
ipl-1.04
spl-shipped..
and pof says that after spl-xxx it should be your rom version.. but mine says shipped.. what the heck does that mean?
is this where i need to do the hard spl?
hey monkeyisland90, did you ever get your unlock code from wirelessunlocks.com?
I stumbled across them while googling unlock sites...7.99 is a tough deal to beat, but the site was only registered in February and looking through HoFo, here and googling wirelessunlocks.com, yours is the only first-person account I've seen of ordering through them.
So...are they any good?

Cingular 8525
well after i did the flashing to my pda and installed wm 6.5 it was working until this morning i turned on and it freezes at the startup screen and never loads windows... is it possible to fix, waht i have to do?
Thanks
just apply Hardreset or simple softresets, wich rom do you have? maybe your abatt is dead... maybe you install something weird
it could have many diferent issues about
maybe you dont flash the shipped stripped rom att wm6 before the 6.5?

Cingular 8125 Frozen

I've got a Cingular 8125 (HTC Wizard) that is stuck on the first splash screen - the one with the Cingular image on the background displaying the IPL/SPL/GSM/OS information (image here)
I've flashed with the "button rom", the "wizard love rom", and tried the method to flash with a different rom to a CID locked device. The "button rom" and "wizard love rom" flashed fine, but it still hangs on that splash screen after the flash. I've reverted back to the "official" HTC rom, and it still does this.
The device is NOT CID/SIM unlocked.
This device is NOT under warranty. (A few months out actually, but it was purchased at full retail price without renewing a contract and Cingular seems unwilling to move on any sort of warranty replacement/repair -- big shock huh?)
Is there any hope?
Take out any sdcard/ mini sdcard in the phone and do a Hard Reset.
Button's and wizard are patched Roms, they can be safely flashed to a CID locked phone just like official rom,but no other custom Rom like wm6 will work or flash to a CID locked phone.
Secondly, when you flash, take out the sdcard,it sometimes creates problem in flashing if it needs formatting, and also close/disable any anti virus or firewall and don't surf the net or run any other program, rather try to close down any programs running at the background.
There is no SD Card in the phone, and the SIM card was out when it was flashed.
There have been so many hard resets done to it that it's not even funny.
All unneeded tasks were killed before performing the flash.
I'll try it again tonight (I left the phone at work to give me something to piddle with) just to make sure there wasn't some sort of fluke.
Does anyone think it would be a good idea to just buy an 8125 that has a broken screen or something and replace the innards of my frozen one with the innards of the one with the broken screen?
It isn't crucial that this phone be fixed - it's more of just something for me to fool around with to see if I can get it working. It was actually given to me for that purpose, but if I can get a cheap PDA phone on the cheap, then I'm all for it (even though I'd have to switch carriers - cause I'm pretty sure it won't work with Verizon.)
[EDIT]
I'm gonna try replacing the motherboard battery (I've successfully taken it apart and put it all back together without breaking more than it already is) and I'll report back once I get that replaced. Perhaps this is the problem?

Newbie Questions.. My vogue will be here tomorrow!!

Hello All,
I'm new to this forum but have been lurking for about 3 weeks. My current Plan was up (Verizon) So I was in the market for a new phone. I wanted to get a smart phone as I could really use the PIM features. After Looking around alot, I decided to go with the xv6900 (Vogue) because it was free!
Now, This will be my first windows mobile phone, but I'm very tech savy and computer literate. I want some opinions on 6.5 roms and the like, as I've never flashed a phone before (Flashed multiple BIOS) and I was wondering if I should try registry tweaks first. I just want to make it "snappy". I plan on installing that iphone like slider (what's it called?) and a different keyboard (any reccomendations?)
thanks for all your help in advance & keep up the great work w/ android!
I got mine a month ago. After using 6.1 for two weeks, I updated to NFSFAN's 6.5 rom because it was more finger friendly, some new and better features, and I would definitely recommend doing the same.
If not, you can keep 6.1 and there's plenty of interfaces to mess around with. I like in the following order: Winterface w/ funcontact and SMS-Chat, PointUI 1.5, M2D/Manilla 2D (bit it definitely slows down the games), PointUI 2, SPB Shell, and there's some other ones but not as user friendly and takes a fair amount of tweaking and reading. If you intend to keep 6.1, I would also install Fingersuite 1.1 to make the menus finger friendly and FingerKeyB keyboard.
I just switched to 6.5 to keep it simple and mostly integrated well.
How to switch to 6.5 (~20min):
1. Update official 6.1 Verizon update to get latest radio. Try making a call. If it doesn't work, dial *228 (i think, if not search), then press 1, and it should re program the phone to work.
2. Use 2.31 unlocker to unlock the phone. Follow this FAQ but DON'T extract the unlocker file like the FAQ says. I kept trying to and the unlocker ROM wouldn't even start. This part was the most confusing and time consuming t figure out.
3. Once done unlocking, download NFSFAN's 6.5 v10 rom, extract and run the RUU exe update utility file. The picture on the left won't be the Vogue but it's ok.
4. It'll restart and you should a brand new htc/6.5 screen. Do a hard reset by pressing red and green button while using your stylus to poke the hole on the bottom. Tweak as necessary using this FAQ
As an FYI, you don't have to do the SMS160 tweak because it was changed in v10.
Wow man,
Thank you very much for the tips. So to get the newest radio i need to dial *228 (or whatever the code is) and press 1? or your saying, Get the newest radio, and if it doesn't call, do that? Where can I get the latest radio? In this forum? I don't see it on verizons site or HTCs.
One question, IF I upgrade to 6.5 and Decide to return the phone, I can reflash to the stock rom but can I relock it? I just want to make sure if I need to return it, They won't give me flack.

Official xv6900 6.1 update available here. It will upgrade the firmware on the phone plus the antenna software (radio). Everytime you upgrade the radio, you may have to dial *228 for the radio to sync with the wireless towers again. You can always test a call before dialing *228 if anything. Or if it still doesn't work, giving a call to Verizon and they'll be able to help, just tell them you updated your phone.

Yes, you can always re-lock your phone. Don't know too much about the process though, if its possible to brick your phone, or if Verizon even cares when you send it back. A search for "relock warranty" should do it.
Also, here's a Rewrite up of the instructions above since I just did my friend's phone, it's still fresh in my head:
How to switch to 6.5 on HTC Touch/Vogue/xv6900 Verizon specific (~20min):
1. Install Activesync to your computer here. Not sure if it's installed by default. If not, just download. Plug in your phone and you should be able to tell because some green thing pops up.
2. Download official 6.1 Verizon update to get latest radio. Plug your phone in, run the file, and it's self explanatory. When done, try making a call. If it doesn't work, dial *228, then press 1, and it should re program your phone to work with the cell towers.
3. Download 2.31 unlocker to unlock the phone, available on the first two links. Run the file. It'll tell you to plug your phone in so plug it in and hit enter. The phone screen changes to a rainbow color now. Computer will tell you to disconnect and reconnect the phone. Do so. Then follow the instructions on computer, check the box, keep hitting next. You'll see a 0% go to 100% pretty quick on the computer and your phone, and your phone will restart. Unplug phone. It'll load into 6.1 as normal. Hold down power+camera+stylus hole button on phone, you should see a rainbow screen, and the words 2.31 unlocker which indicates you've successfully unlocked it.
4. Disable activesync by going to activesync, File>Connection Settings> uncheck the checkbox "Allow USB connections". (I forget if this step is necessary if it's even during this part, but just to be safe).
5. Download NFSFAN's 6.5 v10 rom. Plug your phone (with rainbow and 2.31 unlocker still on screen). Bottom display should change from serial to USB. Run the RUU exe update utility file from NFSFAN's file. In the program, the picture on the left won't be the Vogue but it's ok. Then follow the instructions, check the box, keep hitting next, you'll see a 0% go to 100% on the computer and phone, but now takes about 5 minutes since it's a large file.
6. Phone will restart itself and you should a brand new htc/6.5 screen. Just be patient as it loads. Do a hard reset anytime by pressing red and green button while using your stylus to poke the hole on the bottom. Hit the center big button, then the green button. You'll see a status bar and once it's done will reset it self. Let it load and follow on screen instructions. First time loading always takes a bit of time but after that it's fairly quick on any reset. Note, when calibrating the stylus, try to tap as lightly as you can even though it says to press firm. Windows uses this to calibrate how hard you should press your screen so if you press it too hard, your fingers will have to smash to screen to pick up anything. Tap it as lightly as you can and it would be easier to navigate with your finger. You can always recalibrate in settings.
7. (Optional) Do stpe 5 and 6 again. Codybear, a very experienced user on this forum, says he's never had any bugs/problems others seems to get because he flashes the ROM 2-3 times. He'll flash it, go through the customizations, flash it, go through the customizations, flash it, go through the customizations.
8. Tweak as necessary using this FAQ.
As an FYI, you don't have to do the SMS160 tweak because it was changed in v10.
If anybody wants to copy this to a sticky/wiki/faq anywhere, please feel free to do so. I hate when go to valuable information gets lost.

reflashing blind?

My still under warranty 6900 has a totally black screen. I can see that the backlight is on- it is the actual lcd that is black and the phone will receive calls. (I can't see if it goes to bootloader since the screen is black) Presumably, this has nothing to do with the nsfan6.5 ROM on it.
Verizon CS told me on the phone that if they sent me a warranty replacement then found it to be water (or physically) damaged, they would "have to" bill me for the RETAIL value of the phone. She gave me the option to take it into a verizon store to have a tech first OK the replacement to avoid this possibility. He OK'd it and is should be here shortly.
Is there a way to get it back to stock rom while not being able to read what is on the screen? For that matter, is this even worth doing or will VZW not notice?
PS- I'm trying to decide what ROM to put on the replacement phone- Android is tempting but I think I'm going to wait for the smart people to finish getting stereo bluetooth and standalone GPS all sorted out. I'm sure I'll play with it on the SD card in the meanwhile. Thoughts?
I realized I should add:
On the phone I need to send back, I have the bell (complete with ugly blue start up screen) 3.42.50 radio and whatever nsfan 6.5 build was most recent back then.
To accomplish the flash, I also have a 2gb microsd card (with reader) and have downloaded the stock verizon rom.
Also, the touch screen appears to work (vibrates on touch) however, no amount of guesses with random screen touches could get the phone to connect with activesync or tether (sadly, the last type of connection I made was as a removable drive). In other words, things might not be where they are supposed to be on the screen so telling me to tap at pixel 120x200 (or wherever the "next" or "ok" button might invisibly be) may or may not work.
thanks again!

LOL, thanks. I just logged on to say I'd figured it out. It finally dawned on me that 10 months ago i'd noticed (or heard or something) that you didn't need the active sync connection going if you entered bootloader first.
Fantastic. Many thanks.
Just in case someone reads this trying to do the same thing: I saw elsewhere that you need to run imcoke.41 before reflashing with stock ROM so that's what I did.
Correct?
I think you need to run the .40 unlocker, not the .41
.40 is supposed to be overwritable, .41 is not
I've been using .40 before I send back my phones. When I flash the VZW ROM it usually errors out the first time, then you follow the instructions on the screen(pc) and it takes the second time.

You're right. I'm hoping it was .40 that I used and just wrote .41 here. Regardless, I already sent it off.

[HELP REQUESTED]Accidentally flashed incorrect ROM, phone will not turn on.

Hey guys. I just bought my HD2 today and I have flashed HTC phones before.
This is a TMOBILE 1024LEO phone so I connected it to ActiveSync and installed HSPL 1024. After installing it I loaded the CustomRUU and installed "RUU_Leo_HTC_WWE_1.66.405.2_Radio_Signed_15.30.50.0 7U_2.06.51.07_Ship.exe". This installed 100% and my phone powered off after it was complete. Since then I have not been able to get the phone to respond. I believe I bricked it? But I don't see why I can't even get the bootloader to load when powered off. I've tried holding the volume down button and pressing the power button. Holding the volume down button and pressing the soft reset button. Holding both volume buttons and pressing the power button. None of these get it to respond. Any ideas?

its dead.
flashing a 1.66 rom alone would have been recoverable, but that rom you chose also includes a radio, because it is an official rom, and that radio is 2.06.51.07, , and what happens when you flash a radio with .51. in it?
Correct, brick.
So far no one has been able to fix it, some have taken it back and gotten a replacement.
Sorry to be the harbinger of doom.
(One of the very few actual known ways to really brick the hd2, in spite of the fact that half the daily new threads say 'OMG brick!')
Throw it in the bin?
From the TMOUS HD2 flashing thread...
Not all ROMs are compatible with 1024LEO, including old official ROMS.
Official 1.42 and 1.66 WON'T WORK on LEO1024, because there is no 1024 NAND memory support.
All custom ROMs which ARE NOT BASED ON 2.08+ T-Mobile ROMs WON'T WORK ON 1024LEO.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT flash any Rom unless it states in the 1st post that its compatable with the 1024LEO or the chef confirms its safe to flash on a 1024LEO. If you flash a Rom with a Base version before 2.08 then you will most likely brick your phone. PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!
IF YOU ARENT ABSOLUTELY SURE THEN DONT FLASH IT!!
[...]
IMPORTANT: Do not flash ANY Radio before 2.07.x or the 2.09.51.03 Radio or you could damage your phone!!
IMPORTANT: Make sure the Radio you flash is FULLY compatable with the US HD2 before flashing.
IF YOU ARENT ABSOLUTELY SURE THEN DONT FLASH IT!!

so there is nothing that I can do to get the phone in bootloader mode even when powered off? I don't understand why that isn't possible.
and btw when I connect the phone to a computer via USB, it tries to install software for "QUALCOMM CDMA TECHNOLOGIES MSM". idk if that helps

Nope, it's completely bricked. No ones figured out a way to recover from flashing the wrong radio on the tmous hd2. You're not the first to do it and try to find a fix.
okay guys thanks for the input. I should have been more careful in selecting a ROM! I am taking it back to the tmobile store tomorrow and saying that it just stopped working randomly =D

maybe they won't believe you, but they have no way to prove you're lying, so... even if this kind of attitude will eventually make producers release way stricter warranty policies so in the end maybe everyone will pay for the lightheartedness of the few
or maybe they'll look at their returns pile, figure out how to boot them, leak the process and we can fix it ourselves!
Well if you do brick the phone, their has to be a way to reverse. I'm pretty sure people at HTC know how to do it. I doubt they jus throw these phones away they refurbish it, so there has to be a way to put the stock rom back.
HTC has the bootloader code so they probably have a way to flash it back.
My HD2 turned a few heads at work and a dedicated iPhone owning gadget fan just had to have one. It failed within a day and he returned it for a refund. He was given a new one, and here's my point, had to sign a document agreeing to pay nearly £800 (yes, £800 - that's what the shop charges for a PAYG HD2) if it was later found that the failure was due to abuse, including the use of illegal software. When I read that I was certain they were referring to cooked ROMs. I guess HTC (and the repair shop, perhaps) can tell what's on a phone, even if there isn't a fix and they have to change a board or even throw away the phone. There's a company that can recover iPAQs that have suffered a similar fate. They were doing this before iPAQ 21x cooking became popular. I wonder if such s service exists for HTC devices, or whether such a recovery service is possible with the right tools.
Personally, I'd love to try some of the ROMs on this site but I'm sticking to simple customizations. I'm in no way a WM novice. I just can't justify risking an expensive device. I even avoid official updates if I'm not having problems. Ironically, I've had 4 iPAQs die on me without messing sigh the ROM. I'd be tempting fate.
Anyway, good luck with whatever you decide to do. I hope you get to enjoy an HD2.
As long as your PC is attempting to load the Qualcom CDMA driver...
I have a 1024 Tmo HD2 and I always stick to NRGroms from my TP to TP2 and now HD2 (cyanogen is by far the besy for my Nexus or most other android phones). I decided to flash the Artemis Rom and Bricked my device. It worked at first but once the battery died it would start up. So i figured the usb driver must be incompatable because it wouldnt charge. I was able to get Tmo to replace my HD2 device but didnt want to have to pay the $100 charge they charge if they find the device has been tampered with (not only physically, but software too. SSPL, HSPL, custom ROMs, etc.). Been charged before so they do check.
My point is once they sent me the replacement device, I used the new HD2 to charge my battery to see if it was the usb port not charging. Once the new phone charged the battery and I plugged the HD2 into my PC i received the same message saying attempting to install that Qualcomm CDMA message and the driver would not install. I ended up figuring out the issue but it will take having another HD2. Call Tmo and have one sent to you through warranty not insurance and it will be free. I even complained about not having a top quality phone i paid for to use my service and they upgraded to free expedited shipping. So Dial 611 now. Then just get those drivers using the new 1024.
First make sure to turn on the replacement device and open Mobile device center and plug in the device to get the standard driver. Once you get the standard driver, unplug the new HD2 and plug in your bricked device trying to get the same Qual CDMA driver. Now the driver install should complete. Now since you have an incorrect driver id recommend flashing to the Stocl 1024 ROM cause this will update your device to the correct driver and ROM so you wont be charge when you send back your old bricked device.
Now once you reflash your new HD2 just stick to these 2 simple steps.
1. HSPL with the 1024 version (HSPL2_1024_RUN)
2. Only use NRGroms for your Tmo LEO (http://bit.ly/HD2-NRGroms)
If this does not work just send back the HD2 that is bricked and you get a replacement for only $100 charge. Better than having the most awesome paperweight. Also make sure to use the same usb port used to install the primary driver. And dont be afraid to try running the new HSPL on your bricked phone cause that is what actually allowed my bricked phone to comunicate with my PC, then my bootloader driveer installed. I know this is alot of jabber but just ask if you have any questions. My boys brying now so gotta go...

Any ideas?
