Hi Guys,
Just a quick question, i wanted to post out there to see if anyone had experienced similar scenarios, and if they have found a resolution to incompatibility issues.
Unsure as to whether this is best posted here in the General Section or in th Development Area.
I am located in Australia and prior to my magic i was using a iphone (and prior to that winmobile). One of the more popular websites i was using on my phone is http://mobile.comsec.com.au online trading site.
This mobile portal was specifically designed and engineered for the iphone, and works rather well on it.
Naturally once i got my Magic i attempted to access this site and to my surprise it works ok, except for the navigational buttons (back button especially which is built into the websites interface) which actually renders it useless.
Questions:
1)Does anyone use this website on their android phones?
2)If so does anyone know why the compatibility exists with these navigational keys only?
3)Does anyone know how I may be able to resolve it?
Love the Android Revolution, but would love to have compatibility with this website and my android phone.
Thanks,
Rob

Greetings,
I am new to the world of mobile computing and am looking for some guidance on choosing apps to load to my new Sprint mogul ppc6800. I have recently upgraded to the sprint released 2.17 ROM. I have factory installed IE 6.0 In searching the net there seems to be lots of reference and apps for WM3. Will most apps designed for WM 3 run on the WM6 platform?
One program I looked at listed three different versions for different processors.
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-sudoku-ppc.html
I believe this unit has a Qualcomm. Which would be most appropriate or should I just stay away form the stuff designed for WM3?
A second program I am looking at is MS Voice Command. In searching the archives here, there seems to be enough support for me to get that to work if I decide on it, but are there other, better programs which will allow me to work hands free?
Thanks
Dan
yes most work even wm2000 apps will run on wm6
and your qualcom is arm based
My must have software
Voice command Is a very good program, for hands free simple to set up and use, mic volume and outside noise conditions can effect the performance.
Consider lokking at these
spb back up. A good back up program
spb Phone suite. Today plug in for you phone and contacts.
Spb pocket plus, today plug in and task manager.
Their are so many programs out their, and everybody has different syle, but these are the most suggested
Good luck

The best guidance is to read the forums, here and at the other sites. Pay particular attention to problems others have with the apps you research and the fixes for those problems. Also see how many users have uninstalled the apps due to problems.
Asking for opinions on what apps to install is like asking, "I want to buy a car. What should I get?" You will get a myriad of answers, mostly based on what works for the person answering. However, the question cannot properly be answered without knowing what YOUR needs are, what YOUR level of proficiency is related to computers, what YOUR ability is to live with side effects of the apps you load...in other words, only YOU can decide which apps are best for you, based on research into other's experiences, viewed through your perspective.
One suggestion based on my experience...find a backup method and back the device up as often as you can...for example, I back up daily to the SD card and back up the SD card weekly to my computer.
Thanks all for the insights to my processor and the suggestions. Back up is next.

hi.
i'm wondering if anyone has developed an absolute bare-bones ROM for the HD2. the intended use is for field auditors and the only thing i want them to be able to do is launch their auditing app and use the calendar. the sim will be data only so it won't support calls anyway. it's a single purpose device and they will have a monthly data allowance that i don't want to use up with browsing / personal use etc. i hope to remove (or block) all apps, basically just keep the Today screen and i would deploy my app via Visual Studio / USB. can anyone point me in the right direction? i searched around the HD2 forums for 'kiosk' and 'block' and 'uninstall' but everything i found was feature-rich instead of feature-less.
thanks in advance
How do you plan to restrict app installations on a WM phone ? CleanEx series roms are pretty bare...in any case all ROMs will come with some basic apps which are required for day-to-day functioning
hi, thanks for the reply. i know the phone is designed for everyday usage, so browsers etc are standard issue. and obviously i can never be 100% sure that people won't install an app, but i want to put in whatever measures i can to deter novice users, e.g. removing file manager, Market, etc. it's a business-only single-purpose project and i'd like to customise the device as much as possible for that. am i looking at cooking my own ROM?
cleanex looks like a good start, thanks.

best move forward, PM the cooks.
I am not sure, if this is what you are looking for, but.... couple of years ago I did sold and deployed Kiosk mode from SPBsoftwarehouse. it was 500 licences/installations. it was used on tytnII/kaiser PDA. they used only one application for remote database, even phone, wifi and other functionalities was disabled. it worked like a charm. I dont know, what they added to newer versions of kiosk mode SW, but maybe it will help you. it is not free and for sure not cheap, but it works and it exist test/demo version
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/pocketpc-software/kioskengine/
EDIT> right now they have three products,
SPB Kiosk Engine
SPB Kiosk Explorer
SPB Kiosk Terminal
thanks for the replies. just in case anyone else is interested, i found a codeproject article that explains some of the challenges.
the SPB software has some reported performance problems but it does have an attractive feature list.
Someone out there have any news about an android port for our device?!
Thank's in advance!
PS: yeah yeah i have seen wing-linux project but it seems it's too early...
I don't understand why you would want it on this device? Its not touch screen and would be mainly useless if ported...just saying
BTW: Im not saying it wouldnt be cool. But i have not heard or seen anything new lately..
same question here ...
hi,
well ... same question here. the snap looks awesome, and although there are other candidates in the qwerty candybar department (motorola charm, acer betouch e130 and htc salsa), none of them are out (yet) and none of them seem to be able to match the clean-cut, minimalist looks of the snap.
the salsa's front is fine by me, but the leaked images show a bit too much ornamentalism on the back, the motorola ... well, somehow, i've never been a fan of motorola's designs, the only device i loved being the f3, but that's a different league entirely. something about their decorative use of metal just puts me off. and, finally, the acer. it actually might be ok, we'll see how it actually looks in real live.
right now, i have a nokia e72 and a hero in use, and it really is a shame to see how poorly the hero's text input performs in my (somewhat unique) situation of writing mixed in english, german and chinese. the nokia with it's physical keyboard and a very well integrated ime switching just works soooo much better for that (actually, previous to s60e5, i.e. with a e71, i had to rely on 3rd party software, but it certainly worked).
on android, there's the google pinyin keyboard, which works well for switching between pinyin and a us keyboard, but typing on 3.2 with no autocorrection is a pain.
now, i do imagine a non-touch screen will cause some ui issues ... but that's an ui problem, not an os problem, right? isn't there any example that at least provides a core phone functionality (calls, contacts, text, maybe even email) with a non - touch screen? anyone?
so: i need a physical qwerty OR a software keyboard that works as well as apple's when it comes to switching between international keyboards.
.rm
in fact, wing linux on the htc dash is partly worlking. so i don't think that there are any physical problems in running android with a non-touchscreen phone.

Hmm...Well I don't know what to say but it would be quite hard to use with a track ball but its whatever people want todo in their free time.
The other problem with running Android would the hardware requirements. If I recall devices with only 400-500Mhz CPUs can only run up to Android 1.6 (maybe 2.0?). Also how much RAM this device has could be factor in actual usability.
Hello
Ive been looking into putting ANDROID onto a WIND MOBILE HTC MAPLE. This issue is I can not seem to conclude the procedure to how this would be done.
I've recently posted this topic in general assistance under the HTC maple subsection of the boards, and had the thread closed as the topic was referenced in this post. Im still quite unclear on how this is to be accomplished.
Ive looked into WING LINUX but it SEEMS there is no .cab file for the HTC MAPLE only for the excalibur, etc. There seems to be no file specifically for use with the HTC MAPLE and this is the part that is confusing.
If anyone can be of assistance with determining how to go about the process any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks for all your time everyone.
i believe that google made android to work with both touchscreen and non touchscreen phones.. i remember seeing it in some video long ago (2-3 yrs ago?)... not sure if it is actually developed on...
any idea on how to make it work on the snap? my phone keeps randomly shutting down.. probably android would work better? haha..
Android on the Snap/Dash3G/Maple would be pretty sweet. I doubt it's usability though. Long story short - if you want Android, get a touch screen phone.
I would sure love to see an Android mockup though!
I had android working (partialy at least) on the original dash for t-mobile, it was buggy and the view being in landscape as well as control by track pad was slow at best but it did work. My point being it may not be as nice as running androir on a TP2 or an actual android device, but for anyone who doesn't have anything else to play with it is one step in the right direction. If anyone is interested in following the original project, just go here:

Hi everyone,
Just returning to the threads here to see how/if things have moved on. I've been running XDAndroidFRX05 and have just tried XDAndroidFRX06, I've also tried the FroyoXGinger build too from a while back.
My question is this, is there any build out there which supports Adobe flash which can run on the Blackstone? Or are there any other builds worth experimenting with (I'm currently having a go at CyanogenMod to see if that runs (ok CM7 not much works yet for Blackstone), now trying the XDAndroid GBX0A)?
I'll do my best to search for some more detail about Android on SD as I am well aware I don't have a clue how all the files interact so no doubt it will help to gain an understanding of it. If you know of a good guide then I would welcome a genital push in the right direction. [EDIT - I can't find anywhere which gives an explanation of what each file is and how it all fits together - I can probably guess but after some definite information if possible]
The NAND project is encouraging and hopefully it will allow android to run smoothly on our devices at some point, however for me the SDCard solution is much preferred as a dead/partly-working phone is no good for me.
I don't think Blackstone will ever run Flash because of the hardware limitations.

I know full flash was apparently limited to CortexA8 processors and up, but was unsure of the lite version.
Also SkyFire and uZard browsers add 3rd party support for videos from within the browsers. I guess I expected some version of flash lite would be possible, afterall hardware limits are often ignored on here.
It seems like it could be doable but I don't expect it to work that well and I guess the HD is too old for all that effort now.
Thanks for your answer though.
Dunno about Android, but Flash Lite is working on my Blackstone.
I sometimes use FlashLIGHT (http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-flashlight.html ) application...

Of course then you can always resort to your FleshLight afterwards.
As for hardware, I've seen other Arm11 devices claim Flash 10.1 support, but perhaps that is due to extra decoder chips maybe.
i don't know about uzard, but skyfire renders the pages on a central server and just sends you a "screenshot" of the page. that is why skyfire is the full browsing experience including flash, java, html5, ajax and whatever else you can find. actually, when i last tested skyfire on winmo, by going to ip and browser checking sites, i found, that i was running mozilla firefox with an american ip, which also allowed hulu. /OT
as stated before, i wouldn't count on the blackstone being capable of handling the full flash experience, but flash light might work, or, depending on what you actually need flash for, there might be another way around it.
Hi Everyone,
I haven't been very active for awhile but only because I am trying to do big things for Windows Phone and Hardware Hackers alike. I've been making Hardware to interact with my Arduino/ATTiny/ATMega Projects.
Why use Arduino? They're very popular and one of most open Microcontrollers as well as VERY cheap. Besides that, my Robot Club here in Vegas uses it as the primary MC "base".
You can see it in action at (YouTube Tags didn't work...):

The Windows Phone Code (Coming shortly, also a NuGet Project + IR, TEMP., ETC):

I'll be talking about making Robots, RC Cars/Planes, TV Controllers, and more soon.
Nice.
I've been thinking about this these past few days, and figured several ways of doing it.
By the way, is this possible on 7.8 as well?

7.8 is not compatible with most Bluetooth functionality, it's extremely basic. Only 8 has actual decent functionality.
If you had 7.8, I would recommend using WiFi+Web Server and have a page with all the commands you want and would obviously be accepted/used via Web Browser.
