no android market on my HTC - Hero, G2 Touch General

Hi everyone,
I bought my HTC Hero in Moscow and it came without the android market. How can I resolve that??
Thanks in advance.

guess this is already solved in these forums, search for market enabler
use the forum search in future

Thanks for the info, but I think you did not get it right. The phone does not have at all the market application. The market enabler as I understand enables somehow the connection. I dont have the application itself to even start it.

We are in the same boat. It appears that certain HTC Hero in certain countries don't have Market app (afaik Malaysia, Vietnam). Market is replaced by SlideME's SAM.
I'm from Malaysia, own the phone and I can confirm there is no Market in Malaysian Hero.

hmm, then i suggest you to try to install for example the original htc rom or a custom rom like modaco.. if you want to have it "original" i would recommend the original "clear" htc rom..http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=559622
edit: i think the problem is, that the market is bound to your country/region.. i dont know what happens if you install an wwe htc rom on your phone, but you should give it a try ;-)

Kyrillos,
You can enable SAM by looking for it's installer at the right page of you center scene Else, look for SAM in your bookmarks.
Is it possible to have Android Market by downloading it's apk? Or is the Market embedded to the phone which subsequently make it impossible to have Market in the 'less fortunate' Hero?
felikz,
I tried, but the update failed with this error:

I guess the only way is to root the phone and flash it with another ROM. I have two years warranty and the distributor in my country said if I mod the software of the phone, it'll void the warranty :-(
It's either make or break for me.

Bro Geochelone, I oso bot the HERO 3 days ago and were quite sad that Malaysia's version doesn't come with Android Mkt. I think we missed out a lot.
Tried Slide Me, not much application I think as compare to Apps Store...
Did you enjoy the phone?

asdf8888, I flashed my ROM with the latest WWE update, now I have Market

hey bro can teach me or guide me how to do that? totally new to android phone so hope you can bear with me
thanks in advance

asdf8888,
You can start here. In the article, they specifically suggest to use Linda File Manager, which is not available from SAM. Fortunately, you can use OI File manager.
There's also an update for flashrec, available here.
To load the WWE ROM, you can follow this. Instead of MoDaCo, replace it with official ROM which is available here. Pick the generic one
If you are not sure, ask. I'm more than happy to help

Dear Geochelone, sorry to disturb during the holiday period. But i still cannot accomplish what u have tot me.
1. I have install the OI File Manager
2. i have updated with flashrec, as instructed
3. I copy the WWE ROM into my SD card, i try to restart it by pressing (MENU + ON) button together; and everytime i do that, it hang and i need to remove the battery and try it again.
which steps did i go wrong...
please help... the helpless

sorry bro to disturb u during thius holiday period. I try by doing the following;
1. I downloaded the OI File Manager into the phone;
2. Updated the flashrec
3. Copied tthe WWE ROM into the SD card, and then try to on the phone by pressing the ON + MENU button together. Each time i do that, the phone will hang and i need to remove the battery and retry it.
what have i done wrong....
pls help bro, really wanted to give up oredi...

sorry to bother u again...
which ROM u are using, i have try i think all of them and the message is the same as your in your previous post date 18 sept.
i have downloaded the OI File Manager and oso updated the flashrec....
still cannot.
really sad unable the enjoy the devise...
pls guide me... thanks

Sorry I missed the this particular thread completely :-(
OK. I specifically picked this.
You missed the most important step Flashing the recovery image.
1. Install OI File Manager.
2. Put the flashrec into your sdcard.
3. Put this ROM into you sdcard. You may want to rename it to update.zip before you transfer it to sdcard.
4. Put this recovery image into your sdcard.
5. With the file manager, browse your sdcard and install flashrec.
6. If you haven't done it, rename update-hero-generic-2.73.405.5-rooted-signed.zip to update.zip with the file manager.
7. Open flashrec, click backup (the last button of the program). Wait.
8. At the box, type sdcard/Recovery-RA-HERO-v1.2.2.img, then click the button just below the box. Wait.
9. Now you flashed your Hero with recovery image. Turn off your Hero.
10. Hold POWER and HOME simultaneously. You will enter Android system recovery.
11. Choose Wipe data/factory reset. I ASSUME YOU ALREADY MADE YOUR BACKUP. Else, choose Reboot system now and do your backup.
12. After wipe, choose Apply sdcard:update.zip. Wait.
13. Choose Reboot system now.
14. Smile as your Hero is rooted. Watch it boots and gives you the Market

bro thanks a lot, finally I got my Market, and now starting to enjoy the phone.
You are simply the best.... really thanks a lot, even the person who sold me the phone was not able to help me.
cheers, happy holiday

I'm happy for you
BTW, where you from sir?

High-end Android phones are pretty damn awesome by themselves. But there’s always a little magic to be had by rooting. For those that are fearless and throw caution to the wind, hop on inside for the quick and relatively painless list of what you need and how to do it…
Let the rooting begin…
1. Download this file — PC36IMG.zip — and copy it to the root of your SD card.
2. Turn off phone. Then power back on holding the power and volume button. **If the PC36IMG files was placed correctly and you successfully booted into the bootloader, you should see text appearing on the screen as the phone automatically checks said file.
3. At the prompt to install the image(s), select “Yes”.
4. Reboot
5. Delete or rename the PC36IMG file so that it won’t automatically try to install it again the next time you venture into bootloader land.
And that’s that. Not nearly as hard or involved as some of the earlier HTC Android devices. EVO 4G owners should try it out and let us know how it goes.

Do you really have to post this in every forum?

So rooting like this will still give me SU controls, meaning I can use SetCpu? But still with the stock 2.1 sense?
Question about rooting!
1. How do I get Sprint apps back after rooting (such as Sprint TV, Sprint Nav etc.) or are they part of the ROM?
2. How do I backup my phone before rooting? In case I have to return I am sure I will have to unroot it! Is this possible?

I have exactly the same problem - with a friends HTC Tattoo.
I even tried factory reset (while phone is off - press Menu+Back+TurnOn) but nothing happens.
You can flash the official rom again if you cannot wipe. Running the RUU utility, take the rom.zip from user's temp folder and rename it to CLIKIMG.zip
Then copy it to root of sdcard and reboot to fastboot. I don't remember the key compinations, but you can find them if you search the stickies of this forum.

i searched many topics, but cant finde fastboot guidance
please guide me my friend
I can't help you if you don't know what rom you have. You can try them though, if is they aren't suitable the didn't flash.
You must run RUU utility from pc, and will extract the rom.zip file in your temp folder.
You can access fastboot if you power off the device and hold volume down and power button. After that in fastboot you can flash the rom pushing the volume down key.

now we can change the font files.. so i changed the Arabic font file and added longer letters so they can appear connect to the eye and easier to read.
I got the idea from X10 1.6 arabic fix and my old dell streak Arabic.
Ok lets get to the steps
1- PremRoot your phone
2- Download this Font file
3- copy it and past it to your SDcard
4- Go to the market and download "Super manager" or any other root file explorer.
5- Copy DroidSansArabic.ttf from /Sdcard to /system/fonts
6-Hold the power Button and press restart
your done
now you lost your old arabic file you will need it when HTC desire HD hit the MidEast and they realse fix for arabic!
dont worry I backed it up for you Download this back up encase you want your old fonts back for any reason. just do the same steps except with the back up file.
for more Arabic goodness
use these apps from the market
Mirsal "Arabic Sms"
Ibrahim keyboard "type in arabic"
Persian Browser "view all Arabic websites with flash!"
nice find
teslaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaam
thnx bro for it
Indeed great work.
the sms is ok now. But the browser is connected arabic letters left to right - is this correct and do you have a fix for it. before the letters were not connected but were from right to left? regards?
This is indeed what we need .. Thanks a lot !
BTW .. can you add some screenshots after you've installed the font .. just want to see how it looks like ..
Best,
this is an old fix there is a new fix here
it will give you full Arabic every where!
Ok soo frist post files are BAD! dont try!
but some one post it a new files here they are good
Download Here
1-you need permRoot and S-off
2-You need clockwork mod
3-Do a backup with clockwork mod just encase.
4-download file Arabic Android_Plus_libs_for_HTC_Desire_HD_Z_Sense_signed.zip then mount USB from CWM and copy / past from your computer into Sdcard.
5- unmount
6-install zip file from sdcard and chose
Arabic Android_Plus_libs_for_HTC_Desire_HD_Z_Sense_signed.zip
7-go back and reboot
this should enable writing/reading arabic right to left and everything you need

No, not yet. Still looking for ClockworkMod, not sure where to get that and what it does to the phone when installed. Also I am having the trouble to find the time to do the reading and the applying the fix.
Meanwhile, to get around the Arabic text issue, I use Mirsal for SMS and Persian Browser. They both good for now until I manage to get the fix on or Google see sense and add full Arabic support to the Andriod.
I will report any progress when available.

To install clockworkMod, as well as Root and S-OFF (and SimUnlock if you like) go to this thread, read the first post which has all the instrctions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537
Once clockworkMod is installed, copy the arabic fonts .zip files anywhere on your SD card and reboot your phone into recovery (using a program called ROM Manager which can boot your Desire HD into recovery straight away).
In recovery, power button is select (or OK) and volume up and volume down is to choose.
Once in recovery, select 'install zip from sdcard' then 'choose zip from sdcard' then go to the arabic fonts zip file and select it, then when asked to flash select 'yes....'
Once flashed, you can keep selecting 'go back' until you find an option called 'reboot' which can let you reboot.
Your Desire HD can now read joined arabic writing, but to write arabic you will need an arabic keyboard. You can download 'ibrahim keyboard' from the market which can let you write arabic.
You can also cook arabic fonts into a custom ROM. To do this, copy and paste the whole contents of the arabic fonts zip file into the contents of the custom ROM zip file, overwriting any files and folders when asked. Once complete, you can flash that custom ROM as normal (e.g. through recovery) which will already now have the arabic.
You can go from having a stock Desire HD to having root, S-OFF, clockworkMod and arabic fonts in 10 minutes if you know exactly what to do.
why don't you just flash CynogenMod 7
you will get full support for arabic and a gingerbread rom as well!

[Q] Package Installer Missing!

My rooted phone crashed the other night - wouldn't boot passed the Galaxy S screen. So I wiped it clean.
When I tried to install a program, the Package Installer was missing from the list of actions.
I flashed back to stock ROM.
It's still not showing up in my actions menu.
When I go to settings/applications/ALL - it shows Package Installer at 0.00B.
What the heck?

Never heard of that website and it keeps timing out on me.
You're better off using the video linked above to Odin back to stock. This will erase all your data, so either start from scratch or back up your apps and whatnot.
Bad news...I followed the instructions from your suggested video.
Put on SPH-D700-DG27-8Gb-REL.tar
Still...the Program Installer doesn't show up on the ACTIONS menu!
It goes Music, then Phone, the gTalk Settings....
Grrrrrrrrrr.
Any other ideas?
So are you trying to side load an application? Meaning you have "Unknown sources" checked under the Settings > Applications menu, and have an apk file to install.
The phone won't install that apk file? Or are you looking for something else to happen when you touch the file on the screen?
If none of the above, then I'm lost at what you're trying to accomplish.
Correct. I'm just trying to load up some apk's that I have on SugarSync/DropBox/SD Card/etc. Unknown Sources is checked.
When I click on the apk - it gives me the action menu. None of those actions is Package Installer. It used to be there, now it isn't. I've loaded all my programs this way in the past.
I tried Odin again and put on the EC05 tar file. Same result. No Package Installer listed in the actions menu.
Man, I just don't know. This is my first time reading of such a problem on the Epic forum.
Using Odin and that tar file gives you 100% stock Froyo. You can then install apk files once the "unknown sources" option is selected.
Did you re-install any other applications after using Odin or restore your data? That could be your culprit, which would mean you'd have to start from scratch (aka clean install).
Starting from total scratch.
It's a mystery.
The only thing I installed was SugarSync so that I could get to the files.
I even tried downloading ASTRO File Manager and using their installer that shows up on the actions menu. That used to work to install...but it doesn't anymore. It just sticks.
I guess maybe I need to go to the Sprint Store. Good thing I flashed her

Same Problem
I just bought the Motorola Triumph for Virgin Mobile and I have the same problem. Well a similar problem. I went to see if there was an OTA update and it says "Install Package not found". So I went to the All list of applications and my Package Installed is 0.00 also. I did notice that a lot of other system apps are 0.00 also. Here's the list of them:
Account and Sync Settings
Activation Utility Service
Aging Test
Android Live Wallpapers
Android System
Battery Parameter Upgrade
BlueToothTestMode
BTtools
CDASYS
Certificate Installer
DbgCfgTool
E-Compass Calibration
Env_Runin_Vibrator_Tool
Fallback
FM Radio
FQC Program
G-Sensor Calibration
GasGaugeLogging
Gps Deleter
Home screen tips
HTML Viewer
Live Wallpaper Picker
logtools (I had two of these)
Magic Smoke Wallpaper
Media Container Service
Package Installer
Pico TTS
SD Card test
SIM Toolkit
Sound Recorder
System Update
Terminal Emulator
TTS Service
Voice Dialer
VPN Services
Wifi Comman
Wifi Test
It's a pretty extensive list. I did root it, but I know I had the update problem before I rooted it so I don't think that did anything to it. Hopefully we can figure out why they are messed up for both of our sakes. Thanks!

Wow man... I'm glad you were able to assist the people affected, but the attitude/negative tone is unnecessary. I just saw the post requesting me [or anyone for that matter] to share the files.
I stated that using Odin to go back to stock may be best. He/She was discussing a problem with what many would consider a core function, being able to install an application. Finally, CWM often gives bad flashes, so in my mind it appeared to be a logical suggestion to start with 100% stock and work from there to find the culprit.
I did not share the APK files because I got busy, forgot about the post and missed the request.

Clean install Rom is to eliminate strange bugs for some people
1.Re-flash Stock SE eclair using PCCompanion Here
2. Re-Root your x8 and install xrecovery

Rooting
This is very simple to do, really.
First, download SuperOneClick (thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682) and place it on your desktop.
And SE X8 Driver Here Thank's to treebill
Next, on your phone, go to Settings -> Applications and enable Unknown Sources. Next, go to Settings -> Applications -> Development and enable USB debugging.
You also need the proper USB drivers. To check if you have them, start SuperOneClick.exe and click Driver Check. If the driver check fails, update your phone with PC Companion.
Now, connect your USB cable from your X8 to your computer. When connected it is VERY IMPORTANT to select CHARGE PHONE. Really, I can't stress this enough.
Start SuperOneClick.exe and just click ROOT. Everything should go normally. You might get a message asking you if your OS is 2.0 or higher, just go ahead and click Yes.
You should now be rooted!
xRecovery
YOU MUST BE ROOTED TO DO THIS
Installing xRecovery is the first step in the world of custom ROMs. Installing xRecovery also means if you are stuck in a bootloop, you can just recover to a working backup.
The first step is to download xRecovery mini-beta 0.1 (any other version WILL NOT work on your X8) (download HERE: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=8AJTKDTQ).
Next, download Root Explorer (download HERE: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=LGC110EX).
Copy both the xRecovery folder and the Root Explorer .apk to your SD card.
Install any file manager from the Android Market (I recommend OI File Manager or Astro) and use it to browse to the Root Explorer .apk file and install it.
Run Root Explorer, browse to the xRecovery folder and copy the 3 files inside onto the /system/bin folder.
xRecovery is installed. To start xRecovery you press the Back button while the Sony Ericsson logo is showing during boot. Restart your phone and just keep pressing the Back button.
To move around in xRecovery you use the volume buttons, to select an item you press the Home button (the middle one), and to go back you press the Back button. Go ahead and make a backup of your current system (make sure you have at least 300MB of free space on your SD card.
You'll find the backup you just made in the xRecovery/backup folder. Name it something you can identify (don't use spaces). Copy that backup onto somewhere safe on your PC

1. Froyobread : This Rom is a great choce for beginners, its stable and fast. it's core cm6. Android 2.2, a great upgrade if you are still using the 2.1 stock eclair. its also one of the most famous roms so if you have any problem lot of people are here to help you fix it. its best described as a daily usable android 2.2 Rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1079463
2.Hackdroid: A decent rom, flashy and stylish, sometimes laggy. but overall a very good room. great for starters, however many people stated this one to be a little unstable , but it really depends on what apps you run if you are looking for a good looking rom with visual features this one is a pretty good choice
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914513
3.KuyaDroid: This one is an awesome rom, solid and stable, fast performance smooth menu and everything is decent. Its a good rom if your into gaming as it has built in Overclock, Undervolt, and gesture.(note these features can be manually added on other roms too). One more noticable thing about this rom is that it's core is cm7, and android version 2.3( a big update from the stock 2.1)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1109563
4.GingerDX: This is A cm6 - cm7 update of the Famous Froyobread, So far its fast and stable although a few bugs have been reported but its one of the most stable and working cm7 , android 2.3 roms around. its definitely worth a try if you want a fast and smooth working rom. also it has some pretty good features more than most roms out there to exact. Many people state this is the best Cm7 rom out there
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1188486
5.BehradGH: this one is a light and simple rom, not a bad choice for newbies but it does not have as much customizable features as the other roms, its a good rom for starters,, so if your looking for a simple rom and an upgrade from your stock rom you should try this one

Well then just rewrite tutorial to few steps how to root install recovery and do full wipe.
xRecovery not working anylonger...
i've been lurking around this forum and a few other sources for a little time now, but i'm totally new to all this.
just recently i rooted my x8, got root explorer used it to delete bundled nonsense that came with my phone and so on...
then as i installed xRecovery made a backup, tried installing a rom and didn't work, i had forgotten the xxx15 baseband and kernel thing, i went and made the changes following some posts in this section and a flashtool in the x10mini section of this forum, after finished i could see the change in baseband, although i'm not so sure about the kernel (says 2.6.29 and the post said "Baseband 015 - kernel 2.1.1.A.0.6"), and now xRecovery doesn't log on when i reboot my phone.
to make things more frustrating my pc is running ubuntu and all the "easy" ways to do this and the executables are made for windows... reducing my time to deal with
i'd appreciate any help on this...
