hi,
i have just used jf updater to update to 1.51 (both the radio and the rom) the update process went smooth with no errors....
however after the restart many applications crash and force close including core applications such as acore, gmail, gm, ... etc
the phone does not seem to be stable anymore, it does not sync often.
any help?
had the same problem today... i just reformatted, re-rooted, and reflashed everything. all solutions ended no where. so hopefully someone has a better solution here.
just try a backup then wipe and see if it fixes it
same here, i also did apps2sd at the same time, and i thought apps2sd was the reason for the **** up, so i just wiped and now apps are running from my phone and everyhthing seems to work normally. i'm still not sure what caused it...
going through the whole rooting and apps2sd process all over again????
same here crash, crash, crash.. lol apps to sd 1.51 doing a wipe now ugh
If it helps anyone here, I recently upgraded fine from RC33 to 1.51 HOWEVER I did NOT use app2sd program. I did mine originally using Lucids script method. Which on RC33 was a script that would copy the data and then the cache over to the SD. Then after I upgraded to 1.51 everything worked fine and normal, no hassle.
So my suggestion is this, have EVERYTHING run off the phones memory, Then use lucids script, a alternate way to apps on sd. Then see if everything works fine after you moved it over, also turn on usb debugging, fixed my apps that needed root access.
im also having the same problem after updating to jf 1.5.1 can anyone confirm if they are still having probs after wiping and using apps to sd? did using lucids script instead work? i just dont wanna go through the hassle of wiping and not know which one to use so my apps can stop randomly force closing.
It seems that you all are upgrading from an old version of a2sd to a newer better version of a2sd, many apps don't work correctly unless they are reinstalled when you changed builds due to them not being registered correctly
I would reccomend backing up your apps and then wiping your system/sd folder before you flash to a major upgraded build.
wipe then update then wipe again.
Then boot into your new updated build. Install a few apps then use you prefered a2sd method and verify with the a2sp apk located in the development section that everything worked right.
If the a2sd apk says that tou need to prepare your card for a2sd, you may noy done it right. However if you use lucidrems method, itmay not be compatable.
Check the system/app folder and see what's in it Same with data/app. If the few programs you installed are not there then yay your a2sd is working check system/sd/app to verify.
Ill help out when I can, pm me or ask your questions here. Ill be monitoring this thread.
Good luck
I wiped my phone and installed everything again...everthing was fine until I rebooted my phone and upon start up toggle settings force closed and open home aswell. Same problem I had before....so far nothing else has attempted to force close but I'm guessing I didn't solve the problem and await for it to start crashing like it did before. Sorry I'm still new at this stuff so bare with me...
Toggle settings WILL crash, You need to uninstall that one and redownload the "Cupcake" version of it. That will fix that one.
Now that your 1.51 You need apps that work with cupcake. =)
I do have. The cupcake version....all my apps rondomly just keep crashing....I either hit wait or just force close it
I have also been experiencing force closing issues. The weird part is that I dont have the apps to sd installed on my phone. My phone lags sooo much now, especially in the market and even worse in the browser. Sometimes I wait up to 50 seconds before the browser starts up. Everything is just blank for the time. I get force closes randomly for maps, IM, browser and cupcake toggle settings before I uninstalled. Also, when I exit anything with my home button, it goes to my homescreen but takes a good 10-15 seconds to load my apps on the screen. It just freezes.
Since I've had the phone, Ive already wiped 5 or 6 times. I am so over wiping and reinstalling all my apps and putting everything where I like it. Anyone have any ideas? Please???
AH! That issue I know about, I just recently upgraded from my 2 GB Kingston to a 4GB Sandisk. The Sandisk seems to be a faster card. I know the kingston was a slower one, which lagged behind giving me ALOT of the wait/force close ones. This was due to the speed of the memory card kinda choking out I would say. I always hit wait which did the trick. But when I had alot going on, lag sucked. I dont get it very often now, which says the SD is faster. But this might be the cause of your issues too?

Is anyone else having this issue? I'm going crazy with all of the crashing and waiting. Sorry to be impatient.
Like I said, I did till I changed out my SD card.

I forgot to mention that I have a 8gb 6 class already in place.
I also have an 8gig class 6 card so that can't be it.
so, iam still having force close issues on many applications. also it seems that the phone is very slow now.
any thoughts?
After the froyo update my phone has slow 30 sec delay moments. doing anything from opening the camera to opening the Internet. sometime pausing when scrolling Internet or phone menus. that kind of thing.
should i perform a reset?
I looked in the phone and it has an option:
factory data reset?
and some options backup my data
automatic restore
I did a titanium backup but there are a lot of backed up things, but i suppose i could work my way through.
My questions:
do i need to perform some sort of reset?
What kind (hard soft there seems to be a few options )
and how do i do it?
What do the backup my data /autobackup options in settings do?
Many Thanks
wipe data, wipe cache
then restore only user apps
and maybe user data
do not restore system apps/data
if it still give you problem after a while
repeat and only restore user apps, with no user data
it might be the user data that has gone corrupted
a way to find out if that is the case is by reading the logs....
any DEV guru will know what to look for (not me)
I was told i had DB corruption in another occassion when we were debugging a new app, and after killing everything and only restoring apps, the phone was stable and the random bugs were gone after that
Cheers for the extra info.
How do wipe the data and cache again?
No need to wipe?
Hi,
May be worth a try, i recently had the same issue on my stock galaxy s running froyo, after trying many things i read on a website about the galaxy s not being great on apps2sd, well as i have about 60 apps, i decided to move them all back to the phone and straight away it was fixed!!!! it used to freeze when i woke the phone up for about 20 to 30 seconds and while browsing and now its back to normal, if you have apps on your micro sd card, you can check this issue by installing os monitor, when it freezes open the os monitor and it is kswap0d that is using 70% to 98% of cpu causing the lag, don't know why this happens but it was very frustrating!!!!! hope this helps you anyway.

Boot into Recovery Mode
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Samsung_Galaxy_S_Series#Recovery_Mode
Then select the option to wipe data, also wipe cache
Cheers for the extra info. I had a look at your wiki yesterday. I liked the links to the stress testing videos. I guess I can't use a craft knife as a stylus .
Just few minutes ago. I installed OCLF (one click lag fix) from the android market and it seems to sort everything out. And quadrant benchmark test.
Is oclf safe?
People are saying that the way the galaxy s stores data causes problems, that oclf fixes.
I started having problems with my Vibrant turning itself off after the screen times out.. I searched quite a few sites and saw others complaining of the same issue, but never an answer to the issue.. So far I havent found it here, but I am a bit new to XDA so I maybe missing it..
My Vibrant is rooted, Stock ROM
Since I have yet to run across a good answer I thought I would share how I've manage to stop mine from shutting itself off.. Dont know if its permanent, but so far so good!!!!
I think that whats happening is the programs you have such as Cache Cleaners, Memory Cleaners..etc Most likely you have set those programs to clean at timeout..
If you have Advanced Task Killer its trying to stop those 3, 4 or 5 "cleaning programs" at the same time they are trying to clean the phone as it times out.
Maybe its just simply CPU overload causing it become unstable and crash..
I went into each of the "cleaner" apps and turned off the clean upon timeout options and it seems to be 100% stable again.. I havent had an issue with it shutting down at all!!!!
If I want to clean cache, memory and those sorta things I just run each program separately then use Advanced Task Killer to end all programs at timeout..
Hopefully this helps you & Good Luck

I would love for you to see my Class Action thread in this and the developer section
Hope everything works out for you
sounds like you may need another replacement
I've had a similar incident many times when I had JI6 Stock
without having any cache cleaners installed
just want my phone to stay fast. i hate when it stutters and lags and **** so i was curious whats some things i should do regularly to keep it up like clearing cache and stuff and how to do it?
im rooted running the stock rom and set cpu to keep my battery good.
disable setcpu, a lot of the lag will go away, and you'll probably get better battery life.
You'll need to flash a custom recovery to clear the cache, there are guides in the dev section.
My ZTE Blade sold by Wind(Greek Comp) with 256mb, TPTed to GEN2, no APP2SD or anything like that..
The problem is as the title says, my phone reboots like randomly, especially when i try play SOME games.. Tried CM7, CM9, some other modded CM7, some modded stock roms etc..
I tried TPT GEN1 to GEN2 again lately, tried out some roms, the problem still exists...
Some1 told me, maybe its the kernel's fault, i tried diff roms with diff kernels, the result is the same..
I played with some overclocks(NOT DANGEROUSLY), i just noticed that overclocked it is more likely to get a reboot..
Examples of reboots: scrolling my contacts, benchmark, installing app, searching on google play/market, watching a streaming video using MX video player(using right codecs), just surfing on Dolphin Mini
any ideas?
Thank you..

is the phone getting hot?
As archer2009 said, I would also suggest overheating problems.
Get some program for monitoring/logging your phone temperature and see if you can find the problem that way.
its getting hot after a while on wifi browsing and like 15mins on gaming..
but ive seen it rebooting itself while cold.. i dont believe its the temp.. i have been watching like 5 episodes of anime streaming straight(on MXplayer, via WiFi) and getting hot like hell but not rebooting..
but its been times when i just open WiFi and then open DolphinHD Mini(internet browser), and when i click on play(for some stream), video starts playing for 3secs and then boom, Android logo onscreen...
I think your phone is rebooting randomly because of the lack of RAM. Try a monitoring app such as Norton Utilities or anything else and check for battery temperature/Less RAM issues.
Sent from my LT26i using xda premium
its not the ram. the thing that i care most is the ram.. my ram stays low at almost all times.. Its been times that i use many apps at once that use like 90% of the ram or more and it nothing happens... the phone reboots randomly, as i said, just by opening an app or (it happend like 30mins ago while i was going to call my friend) scrolling on contacts, and the phone's uptime was like 3hours..
tbh how else the ram could be the problem, except the overloading..
not sure if its going to help,
Preperations i do before install new rom:
i dont usually backup the previous rom
booting to clockworkmod (powerkey + vol-)
wipe data/factory
wipe cache
wipe dalvik cache
once a while wipe battery stats
