A question regarding goldcard? - myTouch 3G, Magic General

We must use a unique identifier to create a gold card. Can a goldcard created with one handset be used to mod another? Meaning, can we create a goldcard with Deam#1 to mod Dream#2 or MyTouch? I know it "can" be used, but should it? Or should it be created on the specific handset you intend to mod?

the gold card is based on the serialnumber of the sdcard. although i think they are model id specific you can use the same goldcard/sdcard on mytouches for example and it will work, but im not sure about different model id...

Okay, thanks. I made one a while back using a Dream, and wanted to make sure it would be okay to use on a Mytouch. It just threw me off because usually they are model specific. Didn't want to have to make another if there is no need.
Don't know why I was thinking they might be unique to a single device. Now that you mention that it's the SD's serial, it makes sense. That's awful cause now I remember reading that when I made one. Must need more sleep or something. Either that or I'm about to start regretting all those times I picked on my wife for being old and forgetful before her time.

Is Vogue-Android Superuser even possible?

is it possible that we can root our vogue-android phones or enable superuser functionallity? tia
simple answer is no we cannot. ive asked this and it's not possible, this is not a rom we flash to our vogues. one reason i chose to not use android right now. if you want to root your phone you will have to buy a g1 or hero, etc....

there are alot of things we cannot do that real android phone users can. maybe when the devs make a rom we can flash it will be possible. trust me ive looked into this and i don't think there's a way to make us superusers all the time or root the phone. what id like to see is for usb mass storage to work so we don't have to use abd all the time.

Nonsense, adb gives you root access as do all recent ion builds. There are actually things we have that a real android phone can't easily do, e.g. change resolution, use sd for data. What you are probably complaining about is having a read only system partition but even this you could change if you wanted.
what are you trying to achieve by being superuser?
You can become superuser, the problem lies in the fact that current system images uses cramfs for their system.img. If you use DD to create a ext2 .img file and clone the cramfs .img file into it, you can have read write ability. The .img will be a good chunk bigger though.
if someone REALLY wants an ext2 image of one of my builds I'm happy to share. PM me with which build and the reason you want it/what you want to be able to change.

Just to add some clarification to the already fine answers that are here...
The reason we use cramfs right now is because it's read-only. We used ext2 before, but being read-write, there was too much activity on the SD card, and caused some people's cards to fry. Making the system read-only has improved this, and I can't recall anyone's cards frying since that move was made.
AFAIK, a flashable ROM is still being worked on, the idea being not only that this will free our SD cards to be true removable media, but also allow us to go back to a read-write filesystem. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong.)
It has nothing to do with the phone not being "rooted." It's just read-only to save our hardware atm.

well I'm not sure if we could run anything beyond 1.5 on our flash, as they said the g1 doesnt have enough memory to run the official hero rom. I'm confused about the cheaper HTC qvga android phones that run donut but without touchflo..heres a vid a link

id like to see the system images rooted from the start, that way we can run all of the "root only" apps on the market.
devs is this even possible? if not that really sucks as it limits us from doing what others can do with real android based phones.

O2 rom update.

I'm running an early ROM , despite the phone being just a couple of weeks old, I tried to upgrade to the latest rom from the HTC website, but their system wouldnt allow me to (because I'm with O2).
Is there any way to upgrade (was simple with the iphone) the ROM without going down the custom rom route ?
yeh flash hspl and you can run any official rom as well.
They are all stored here.

Hi,
There's a section on ROM updates here on XDA which may have the information you need, at http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=534. If heard reference to using something called Gold Card (and it's also been written as Goldcard here) which I believe is meant to help. This might give you something to look at whilst othr, more lmowledgable people provide you with info. I have no personal experience as my HD2 is unlocked.
Regards.
Briefly put, the gold card method basically consists of putting a specially edited SD card into your phone which allows you to run the update from HTC. Without it the update app says it's not compatible or something.
(To edit the SD card you format it to FAT32, then use a special application to get the serial number of it, send that to and a website and get some data back which you write to the filesystem of the SD card).
You can also update by putting the firmware image onto this special SD card and calling it something like goldcard.img, which I suppose is where the name comes from. (You get the firmware image by treating the HTC update app as a .zip file and uncompressing it).
I've done this from my O2/1.43 phone (using the update app) and haven't noticed a great deal of improvement, so I wouldn't get too excited about needing it to solve all your problems. If I were you, I'd stick to the individual updates released from HTC until a "must have" version comes out. From reading forums there doesn't seem to be many posts saying that 1.48 is much better than 1.43, that fits my experience too.

Can you turn a nandroid backup into a Rom?

I have customized a ROM and a few people want what I have. I was wondering if I could wipe my EVO, create a nandroid backup and give it to someone as a Rom. Is that possible?
Or would it just be easier to give them the backup? I just want to easily share what I have without giving someone any of my personal information.
I was going to try this on my friend...except he has a very different taste than I do. If you want to try it, save the folder the nandroid is to your desktop, connect your friend's evo and run this adb command:
Code:
adb devices
rename the folder with your device serial to what your friend's produced, load it on his SD card and attempt to flash as a recovery.
Edit: I think that number is under the battery on the Evo, but I can't remember for sure. I really don't want to unskin mine to check. If someone does, let us know.
that will allow the other person to use your back up the problem with allowing someone to use your nand back up is that it backs up contacts and settings. so if you nand restore to a diffrent phone they will have your google account contacts texts etc set up on it so make sure you change all of that so they dont get mad that you have been sexting their gf
you need to learn to make a rom using something like the dsixda kitchen

Meh, This is a quick and easy way if you just want to share what you have. There's always different ways of doing things. +1 on erasing all of your personal data.

You do realize that there is a good chance of erasing your 4g keys and completely ruining the chance of your phone being able to use 4g by doing this??
You should never use nandroid backups from another device.
If you do use your backup....ERASE WIMAX.IMG OUT OF IT AND md5.

Help with rooting/goldcard?

hi,
total newby to rooting but not new to linux stuff so forgive me if i'm asking stupid questions but:
what the hell do you do after making a goldcard? i've inserted the new sd card into my phone but i see no change. this is a test sd card though, from what i figured out, i can root this phone with the test card of 1gb capacity and then insert my sd card with all my personal stuff in it that's 8gb. i'm not really sure what i'm supposed to be looking for neither to be honest.
if it helps, i'm on a stock 2.2 but i got it on release day so it was clean from "bloatware" but there have been a few updates. vodafone uk, software 1.72.405.3 and all the pretty things that go with that. I know I have to download a new rom at some point but can I do this to the current rom?
any help in this matter would be much appreciated.
regards,
ehababoud
You can easily Achieve root on the DHD in about 15 mins, have you googled/searched for a rooting guide

you only need a goldcard if your using a 1.71/1.75 based roms, thoes cant be rooted, so you use the goldcard to downgrade the version of android your using, if this is what your trying to do you need the relevent ruu or PB98IMG.zip, all the goldcard is for is to skip the CID check..... if your using an older version of android you can just use visionary to root
hi thanks for your help, i've tried rooting via visonary+ but it can't even do a temprary root because it just crashes the phone.
there are not many guides out there for rooting without visonary but i think after the updates, it's now at 1.75 so i guess i have to downgrade. i've created the goldcard on mine now and i found a great guide called "HTC DESIRE HD: FULL UPDATE GUIDE" (not allowed to stick any urls yet because i'm pretty new here)
but on stage 5 of downgrading its trying to create a backup file and finds an error. this is the exact result:
Code:
C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk-windows\tools>adb shell
# /data/local/tmp/misc_version -s 1.31.405.3
/data/local/tmp/misc_version -s 1.31.405.3
--set_version set. VERSION will be changed to: 1.31.405.3
Patching and backing up partition 17...
Error opening backup file.
this is racking my brain because i want to move on but i can't. the only guess i can make is that it can't find the backup file in question. i also found trouble making the goldcard when i was looking for the CID but i found a workaround on google. ah good old google!
once again, any help is greatly appreciated.

Rooting new 2019 Glowlight Plus

Can someone rooted the 2019 Glowlight plus?
- Can I use the same files and procedures listed in the 2015 thread?
- Would also the same procedure work for adding a new launcher and using the script to stop the bootloop animation?
Thanks
Yes, all the Glowlights are basically the same.
You can use any of the old techniques.
If some script uses a VID/PID inside, just change it to 2080/000c instead of whatever 2080 thingie is there.
Thanks for the info.
However I am not very technical. What keywords should I look for inside the script to change those numbers you referred to? Do they refer to the model number of the device?

They refer to the USB Vendor ID and Product ID.
Have you tried already the scripts that you referred to?
Some scripts have model-specific parts in them so that what works for a Glow2 wouldn't work on a Glow3
You just need to text edit the numbers, it's pretty obvious.
If you can't figure it out, give me a link to it.
(I never use these scripts, so I'm not the best versed in them.)
