And a quote from our dear chef regarding 6.5 for Uni:
"Look, WM6.5 is very early development stage specially for Uni. Also you must not forget that the OS has not been released yet. Besides, I can see you've just joined to the experimental dev phase and working on WM6.5 is not an ideal assignment in any case (for you).
Anyway, existing module relocation tool doesn't work well for WM6.5. You need to manually check if there is a conflict. It is also known that M$ has changed the slot's address for 6.5.
By the way, I've stopped working on WM6.5 due to it's instability and waiting for a "release" from the carrier."
Hello Guys
1. Does Itjes 6.5 ROM simply upgrade the 6.1 to 6.5 still giving me the option to add any other roms in there ( i.e TOUCH IT or perhaps even original)?
2.How can i revert back to 6.1?
i have other question but ill ask them i guess once people get interested in replying...
Thanks
Yes, U can. Because I have tried it
thanks for you response, but YES to which question.
If I understood everything right, you flash a new ROM, e.g. the 6.5 ROM, then you can do a hard reset and you'll still have the 6.5 ROM, if you don't like it, you can flash another ROM, e.g. the default ROM, then you're back at 6.1... there is in my eyes no difference between a custom 6.1 and a custom 6.5 ROM (beside the changes from 6.1 to 6.5 ) if you want to flash it back...
what i mean is.
windows 6.1 or 6.5 is the OS.
the ROM from what i understand is completely different from the OS. For example my xperia is Windows 6.1 (OS) with SE R2A(ROM). What i was wondering is if i flash to 6.5, which im still under the impression is basically a beta upgrade to the OS its self. Can i hypothetically upgrade to R3A rom or Touch IT v4.5 and such?

nope you're wrong. the rom includes the os.
if you flash 6.5 rom you get win mobile 6.5 beta and other stuff packed inside the rom. if you flash touch-it (insert lame version number) you will get win mob 6.1 AND tochflo etc.
you should read the boards .... x1 rom development.... Before you flash anything to your X1 you should actually know what a rom and a flash is . Otherwise your device may be damaged or you loose personal data.
A rom is the Operating System (OS) packed with programms and tweaks the cook likes.
the rom can be compared to the hd image of a computer
which include the operating system and all other programs
you can't replace the rom without replacing the os
even if it's with another os of the same version
thanks a lot Bros'
I would just like to point out that a new ROM version does NOT mean it is a new OS version too.
A manufacturer may release a new ROM version to fix a problem (eg. fix the camera software) but it does NOT update or upgrade Windows Mobile at the same time.
The new upcoming X1 R3A ROM i think will still be Windows Mobile 6.1, NOT 6.5. However, there are a LOT of updates in the R3A ROM, including new panels, panel manager, new camera software (now with auto-flash YAY!!! and GPS YAY!!!) and improved speed and stability. This has NOTHING to do directly with the OS (although SE might have done some tuning to WM6.1).
Feel free to correct me if wrong
pls advise....

Yea it happens, I use outlook and Sync Center too, times when it told me that its a desktop error means that Sync software simply can't sync as original parameters had changed and don't match. Mine reason was when I was using tweaking apps to change things on X1 such as what the contacts are sort by (firs-last, last-first); email settings changed; same with calendar. So just keep them original or try to reestablish your partnership with Sync Center, works with me.
I have a HD2 originally from T-Mobile.
With the help of this forum I have installed a new (1.66.405.2 76641 WWE) rom and so have removed all signs of T-mobile.
So - before anything else - a big thank you to the brilliant guys and gals who make this kind of thing possible for newbies like me.
I would now like to try WM 6.5.3, can someone tell me which ROM I need.?
BTW I would prefer to install without HTC Sense and revert to "pure" Windows Mobile.
Thanks in anticipation
Ian Wilson
Search for 23xxx/24xxx/28xxx WinMo versions - those are the beta builds 6.5.x
Most probably, the ROM you request will carry a name like "Ultra Light", "Clean" or whatever, eg. like this.
You can try this Miris extralight:

Can someone help me get windows mobile 6.5 for I-MATE ULTIMATE 9502??? I know there was one project which was around based on this but that never gave results. Also I searched the ENTIRE web for this but i found nothing. So I thought we could get this project going and become the first ones to develop such a rom!!!
Project came to conclusion that's it's not possible.
I found Chinese SD card WM6.1 ROM - available at [here], but no one have found how to enter bootloader.
This could be an easy to make WM6.5 ROM.

Hi all.
I'm creating a Windows Mobile Rom.
1)---I want to create a rom modifying my smartphone's rom and NOT creating a rom from a clean one (it will be almost impossibile).
2)---Which kitchen can i use?
3)---Where can I download the latest Windows Mobile 6.1 and 6.5 Builds? (Da-G's download don't work anymore on Mediafire)
Thanks
Try OS Builder as this is the most advanced and all in one solution. But be aware that if you start from an already cooked ROM you may face many kinds of problems because many cooks have applied methods to prevent dumping their ROMs.
Good luck!

Thanks for you reply!
But, to pass from Winmo 6.0 to Winmo 6.1 or 6.5, do I need 6.1 or 6.5 builds (xip, sys)?
Where can I download these build?

Oh well - you are much on your own with this old stuff now. Usually you cannot do much to the XIP (Kernel) parts as they are largely HW dependent. SYS is part of the ROM anyway and so part of regular cooking. Lookup the forums for your device and download what you can get. If it is an exotic device your chances are ~zero to get anything useful. If you have no experience in cooking it is a very long way to succeed (talking in weeks and months of learning!) - and there no others fighting the same problems any more. Look up the introduction link from my signature to get an idea of how things are connected.
What is your starting point (HW, ROM) and where do want to go?
TOBBIE, in practice I want to use Os Kitchen (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=628948) because it's very simple to use.(I can alredy use it).
I downloaded but when I open it, I have the first screen (that showed in the thread). Is written: "....please, select an official rom update file..." It refers to an update Windows Mobile Build for cook the Rom.
So I searched Windows Mobile 6.1 and 6.5 Builds. I found 2 very good Builds from Da_G :
-6.1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=547314
-6.5 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=544445
But ALL Links don't work and I ABSOLUTELY need this Build, without it, I can't cook...
Sorry, I have no experience with OS Kitchen. I have only used OS Builder finally and a very old device specific batch-kitchen before this.
Thanks, Can i give you "THANKS"?
But with wich build did you used to cook?

Well first you need to split smartphone (no touchscreen) from touchscreen devices.
I have cooked only for smartphone -> see my signature kitchen and stuff is all there.
Then find a stock ROM for the right type (smartphone or touchscreen) with largely similar properties (screen resolution, maybe also CPU/Chipset).
Can't you tell which device you want to cook for?
I want to cook for my Toshiba Portege G910 with WinMob 6 Professional.
It's touchscreen, it has Qwerty Keyboard, it has Wvga Resolution 800x480. There is not even a rom for this device.
But I want to cook in Italian language, (I'm italian )
This will be tough I guess. Mind that a new ROM will not change the kernel, so any of the new memory schemes introduced with W6.1 and WM6.5 will not apply even if you put a new OS on top of it. So basically you will not gain speed with a new ROM. Adding a language is a tricky thing but is possible, see my signature, even without cooking an all new ROM. So is there no Italian on the device at all?
Oh, I'm sad for this: no extra speed
When I bought, my phone had italian language.
The Toshiba Portege G900 is very very similar to my G910. Also the G900 has WinMob 6.0 Pro.
An Italian guy made a Winmo 6.1 rom for the G900 (in italian language), and now the G900 is very very fast. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4h23pR6JbI
I want to this with my G910, IT'S possible. Salvyc83 do this
(But now he can't help me)
Search for speed tweaks on WM6 if you are happy with the device otherwise. The effort to cook a well running 6.1 is enormous and it is not guaranteed if you get it faster on the UI then.
There are various registry settings to play with which can make the UI faster responding (cache for icons or fonts).
Good luck!
I need too to learn cooking roms. I will follow this thread.
