You guys are the best at writing code for certain functions, so I thought to check here to see if someone had written, or is in the process of writing, something to change this inconvenience.
It would seem to me that HTC placed the power/screen off button that is located on the top, left hand side of the TP2 in the worst possible place. Every time I have the keyboard open and am typing I find myself accidentally pressing the button and turning off the screen.
Would it be possible to have that button deactivated only when the keyboard is open?
Much thanks and appreciation

Gordon,
I apologize for the unnecessary thread. I did a search and didn't come up with that thread.
Much thanks for the assistance.

My Magician is now protected inside a nice plastic case. I've managed to use MortButtons to make it mostly usable without opening the lid but...
I would like to have the system password protected. Does anyone know of a replacement password entry program please or, failing that, a SIP (keyboard) which can respond to the d-pad?
Thanks alot.
Try Omega one pass. It's great so long as you don't use another 3rd party button mapper. Good hardware key entry.

Cheers, that's exactly the kind of thing I'm after!
Unfortunately, after instaling the trial I've found that after maybe 5 turn off/ons I get a white screen and the only way out is a soft reset.
Maybe I need a different version of it.
try picture pasword you have to tap on the screen is a set secret loaction set by yourself, using finger or stylus
and its freeware
pm me if you find it sutiable cant find it anywere pal
Would be nice to have a voice-activated security lock on your device. Like say for example, you get caught up in a bank robbery and the robber wants everyone to empty their pockets. You take out your Magician and say the words "lock" and the device will automatically lock itself.
lmfao

Nice, or, hand it over and say "electrocute"
jaceuk: picture password would be no use to me unfortunately as I would still have to open the lid. People may be asking, how lazy can you be, not wanting to open the lid, but this plastic sleeve I'm using has one mother of a locking mechanism - I may need to file some of the plastic down to be honest so its less of a struggle.
mate i forgot to say picture password also has the option,to unlock the screen/device by button applicationusing the main ,four buttons
you can have 1 to 3 press of 1-4 buttons in any set paterrn you like
so that you can have a simple one button press or a code like tap of several buttons
hope thats more help

Thanks very much for that mate - seems to work a treat! No need for any soft resets so far. Current version seems to allow up to 5 presses and also works with d-pad button presses!
vijay555: Thanks also for the recommendation! - just seems like that particular software doesn't like my particular setup.
Is there a way to create a today plugin to use the camera's flash as a flashlight?
PLEASE READ the F*cking WIKI,
Here you go,
Yes, that is indeed its formal name, the "F*cking WIKI".
My app VJCandela might help (I recommend VJCandela lite).
Also, if you're asking the question, you probably also want to install VJLumos III on your Hermes. It's nice.
V
Lately I was making myself familiar with VJCandelaLite (pardon me, merely "Flashlight.exe" that I found somewhere) and ran into strange behavior. Further experiments revealed the following.
I created a shortcut in the Start Menu with intention to always launch VJCandelaLite this way because all hardware keys are already occupied. Now, if the shortcut is activated via the touch screen (finger or stylus), everything is OK. However if I use joystick keys to open the menu, scroll to the shortcut and start it, the flash just flashes briefly -- it's even hard to notice it. That's sad; the touch screen is always worth saving (too delicate for me), hardware keys are way better.
Then I discovered that if the flash has successfully turned on, any keypress turns it off immediately Only afterwards I found vijay555's homepage and things got a bit clearer. The rest is simple logic.
I believe that VJCandelaLite should start checking keys not immediately but after some time -- say, 500 ms. Is there a need for very short flashes anyway?

I've found that a white image on the front screen illuminates better than using the flash. Just an FYI.

Hi, do you have some news about waking up the Legend with the trackball? It is a little bit annoying to wake it up with power button and afterwards unlock the phone sliding your finger down. I am still searching for this feature across the internet.
If you will have some news or find a solution, please post it.
Nobody?

That's what I'm looking for too. Or anything else. Tap the screen and then slide unlock, or get rid of the unlock slide at all and use just power button etc etc. This HTC lock/unlock solution is just the worst one.
Hello,
I'm interrested in that too !
It is annoying to use the power button...
Any news yet ?
Thanks
hi yeah use No lock app
It simply disables the lock screen. Press the unlock/menu button just once and the screen turns on immediately.
I wrote a config file to unlock with menu and home button..
Trackpad button is different from others buttons! Kernel doesn't assign a code to trackpad.. I'm taking a patch from desire's forum and i'm trying to apply it to legend kernel..
instead of power button plus swipe, you can do power button plus menu button
i'm interested in this
Yes it works!
Root is needed and a kernel compiled by myself needed too..
(i add those patch http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=703539 )
No root necessary!
I just randomly came across this... Downloaded a free app called "No Lock" (BoD ) which obviously removes the lock from the screen, but it also enables any button including the track ball, volume keys, menu, search... (you get the point) to turn on the phone screen. Its up to you guys but since there is no hardware button for making calls I dont really see any problem with pocket dialing - just no lock Also, there are programs to solve that such as chompsms which lets you do pattern lock to use it...and there are others to cover all apps too. Hopefully this helps someone.
Sorry - Just saw a few posts down the same thing was posted. I guess I wont completely erase mine tho since I evplain it a bit more if there are noobs reading.
I dont have access to the market right now, can someone kind enough upload the APK for No Lock?
i really really need a way to wake up my legend with a key other than power as it is acting funny.
thanks a lot in advance...

But unfortunately this doesnt work for me... I think on Froyo there is no way around this. as my power button doesnt always work im going to downgrade to 2.1 and then use a custom froyo rom with this ability or maybe just stick with 2.1 for the time being...
a little update on froyo!
it seems that when you are charging your phone and using a program to disable sense keylock you can wake up your device. so I think on froyo they have prevented other keys to have power and be active....

I am excited to use my TMOUS device except several small issues. Some of them already fixed here (thanks this forum), but some irritates me (especcially whole device is excellent). One of this is middle hard button ( I mean that "back arrow"). My opinion is its most useless key I saw. It will must better to use this as a comprehensive Task Manager or Task Switcher. But this ONE STEP BACK(!!)... Stupid! I can't find any decision in internet to correspond this button to useful function, except AEButton-software, but I don't like this so artificial way, which running on memory and fishing all button events. Anybody knows other solving?
i use the back button maybe a hundred times a day in opera. faster than calling opera out of fullscreen to hit the soft back button.
i havent heard of any other way to change it than by using aebuttons, sorry.

heh no worries. The one drawback is that if you hit a link that opens in a new tab, and then hit the back hard key, it drops you back to manila home (although opera is still running, just switch back to it) because there is no 'back' for that tab, so it assumes you mean to go back to home.
However you soon get used to it and it happens less and less.
samsamuel Thats good, but its not enough for device with only 5 hardware buttons (except volume control) to have only one programmable button for user friendly functions. I guess professionals in this forum can help us to establish full control for these buttons!

I use the back button every time I use my phone in every program. how is a back button not a good idea?
The Back arrow button functions as close app button my Euro HD2. Initially I used to think that it's just allowing me to step out of an application back to the previous screen / app that I was in, but after checking the task manager periodically, I realised that this button actually closes my apps.
Are you guys sure it's not doing the same with your T-Mo edition?
Hi everybody,
Does anyone know a Method to bring up the softkeyboard with a longpress on the back key? Normally it would be done by longpressing the menukey, since the gs2 doesn't have one i'd love to bring up the keyboard, for eexample with a long press on the back key.
Thanks for some answers

I'd like to hide it. Do a web search and follow a link. Then get annoyed at how small the window is

Your phone doesn't have the menu key? How is that possible. Also it should bring up the soft keyboard I think.

I think he meant long pressing menu brings up search because there is no dedicated search button.
I'd be interested in a solution for this as well.
I'm inclined to think there is a way to make long press back bring up the KB for rooted devices only, and might already exist from SGS1 complaints. Samsung took a page from Apple, by which I mean they made a form over function compromise.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I don't get how they made a form over function compromise like you said.
Unless I am missing something, I am assuming there is a field to type in whenever someone needs the keyboard. so what exactly would be the need for a long press on the back button, if you can just touch the field which brings the keyboard up?
Can someone explain to me if I missed something?
Sorry i ment that the galaxy s 2 doesnt have a dedicated searchbutton. Samsung decided to use a longpress on the menubutton as the searchbutton, so you cannot bring up the keyboard with the longpress menubutton. Sorry for the confusion!
And now an explenation for the question "why would you need it?":
If I want to play a HTML5 or a flash game within the Browser, where a keyboard (or only the arrowkeys) is needed, i can't bring it up without the "longpress menukbutton"...
