Hello
Im the happy owner of an HTC Magic by TIM (Italian Operator, and its a 32a model) since a few days.
Anyway, i noticed a little problem that is really annoying. Basically, when the phone is plugged to its USB or AC charger, the touchscreen sensitivity is greater than when its not. It recognizes every little touch on the screen.
Instead, whenever i unplug it, the touchscreen needs me to use the whole finger just to let it recognizes the touches.
Is that normal? Could it be a problem of the rom made by TIM? or is my device bugged?
Thanks in advance
I think it's because of better grounding when connected to the computer through USB (as the computer is connected to ground too. The same thing happened with the Iphone. So I think that's the way it is... But I rather don't have any problems with touch response ( I've noticed that touch sensitivity on the edges is worse..)
The point is that when the phone is plugged, it works as good as the iphone, a soft touch get recognized.
When it is unplugged, i gotta use the whole finger or it wont even fairly recognize it.
I tried to flash the cyanogen 4.0.4 port for 32a and the situation is still the same, most likely my device is bugged.
Gotta Restore/Wipe the phone and im getting it back to the shop
Anyway thx for the help

Well, it seems my touch screen is messed up!!..Anyone got some advice?
More often than not my touch screen wont respond at all to me, the lock screen wont work, and if it ever does it seems that when im navigating through screens it will think i pressed a button higher up than i actually did, it makes texting a nightmare!..I mean im still on the stock rom that came with the phone when i bought it from vodafone.
I thought maybe a hard reset would solve this, but since my rabbit chewed through my Mini USB cable i haven't been able to back up evertyhing on the phone, not that im sure a hard reset would help in this case!!
Any advice or anything?..I mean if you need more info i can tell you as much as i know!
Thanks in advance guys!
take it back to vodaphone for an exchange, it shouldn't do what you describe, and you can get a new usb cable off fleabay for a quid or so, you'll need one to charge it anyway,

the stock vodafone rom sucks.. try to calibrate your screen in settings if that doesnt help take it back.. if it does help, buy a new cable and flash it with HSPL or a goldcard..
I worry about taking the phone back, simply due to the fact Voda. don't stock it to consumer customers anymore only business, and other people on there forums who have either lost or had there faulty hand sets have been palmed off with some new sony phone.
And i would try the screen calibration but the phone wont even unlock for me, it's refusing to recognise i am even touching the screen so it wont let me unlock it.
Hello all, im still having issues with my touchscreen being i guess mapped incorrectly or sometimes hardly working at all. The more i think about it the more i have to think it can be fixed and also i think about anything that could have happened to the phone b4 it started acting up and there was nothing, not a drop or hit. The only thing i can put on the same timeline is right after i installed lockbot is when it started acting up, is this by chance only or is there a chance lockbot modifies a file that could affect the touchscreen? Any help with this or even ideas would be great. Thanks, veritas
Ps...also after searching google for a few days i noticed a good bit of people posting that they had diff issues after installing a couple diff lockscreen apps, the only issue is that they are all only open post with zero responses to point in the right direction. Thanks
This happened to me too after installing lockbot.
I'm gonna try to reinstall the firmware and will get back with the result.
Currently it just comes and goes .. mostrly comes.. The bottom part of the screen doesn't work at all, and the sliding seems to work harder. Also, when I type a message in landscape, I press a key, and another one is actually shown to be pressed.
I also tryed different versions of lockbot, 1.8 and 1.13 before the touchscreen sarted to have problems, but when it actually happened, I had version 1.8 installed and it froze when I was using it.
Just reinstalled originial firmware, and problem didn't go away.. this is starting to get serious..
i seriously doubt it's related to lockbot. many people use it with no issue.
yeah.. lockbot might have been a coincidence.. I realized that I was using a different charger (not the original one) when using the phone when this problem appeared, and this seems to be consistent with the problem.
Actually I was charging the phone from the usb port of the computer, using also an USB extender.
I'll take the phone to waranty .. I tryed removing the battery and not using it for a day, leaving it to use up all the battery.. no success.
I think that there may be some wild static running through the phone from when I charged it off the usb.
If I play with the phone a lot now, sometimes the bottom part works bot not the top part.. and sometimes, I can press something on the screen just by hovering the thumb over it.
I'm getting the same problem! I press at the bottom of the screen and it selects something in the middle or nothing at all and at the home screen I won't even touch the scrren just hover my thumb over and the screen responds like its trying to go to the next screen but then gets stuck in the middle.
I called t mobile and they said to soft reset or hard reset, did both and no fix.

It's definetly a hardware issue.. it's sad that these touchscreens are so sensitive to the charging currents..
I would have imagined that they would have added some protection for this ..
btw, it's not just a htc hero problem, the web is full with all types of touchscreen phones being afected when using non original charger.

That's ALL T-Mobile knows how to do. Reboot your phone or reset your phone. If that doesn't work, they tell you its broke. Anyone could do that job.

ANY phone gets affected when using a different charger. People don't stop and look at the voltage of the new charger and leave their phone on it for 10 hours even though it's charged.
You can't protect from stupidity. Not saying any of YOU are stupid, but seriously, don't give your phone 100 volts when its made to receive 12.
I quess that ppl that use non-original chargers would read the voltage output..
Like I said above.. I just used the usb port from the computer to charge, if this is wrong, maibe they should have disabled it

I was saying here that other parts of the phone are just fine.. if there is a problem with the charger, why doesn't the whole thing brake.
Hello all. Sorry to post about this, but I see it's a somewhat common issue with some other 'Droids and figured I'd toss this in here to see if anyone else has had any issues.
Basically, whenever a USB cable is plugged into my computer and the phone, the screen stops responding properly. I've heard this could be a kernel issue?
Any suggestions?
not sure, its it fully unresponsive? I have minor issues with it not working for time to time but it will come around. This is both on and off USB. I just wiped everything and reinstalled super clean 1.0 and that fixed it, I also installed only apps I need and none are on SD as I think SD is not so responsive in this leak. My gallery app takes forever to load and I have a class 6 SD card.
I'm using RubikS' ROm of Froyo and just pluged my phone into my computer and the gui and all touch elements are working without issue. What version of Froyo are you using?

I notice this when I'm charging the phone, I just avoid having to use it while it's plugged in.
I have my phone pluged in at work to my laptop all the time and have never seen an issue with the touch screen.
Not all USB power connections are the same
I have the USB provided with my fascinate. In addition, I have a cheap power only mini-USB connector. When I use the latter, on any ROM, I find the touch screen to be non responsive. When I use the stock power it works. Just a FYI, so please check your power cord first.
I'm using the stock cable that came with my phone (of which I picked up this last Saturday).
Right now, I'm running the Blackhole ROM, it happens quite often, but there are a few instances where the touchscreen does work fine. It seems to happen mostly whenever the screen goes to sleep and requires an unlock.
I don't think it could be the Blackhole rom, as it would have been more widely reported... could it be? I have absolutely no issues otherwise with it (Except pressing the redial button crashes the dialer and hitting "Setup Wizard" in the options causes an exception/FC)
this has always happened to me, i think its just an electric interference from the charger to the screen. a better cable might fix the problem but i'm not positive on that, just conjecture
Don't use 3rd party chargers/ cables, this is a known issue to messing up the touchscreen. Also hold your phone while you use it, you need to do this because it seems to ground the phone and make it responsive. I have tested this on a few phones and they do not like it when you touch the screen while you are not holding it.
Since updating my Samsung Omnia 7 to NoDo I have noticed a very annoying bug so I was wondering if anyone else is experinecing the same thing.
When my phone is charging either using the mains adapter or USB cable, the touch screen is very very random. On USB I cannot slide the lock screen up. No matter how much I drag my finger I can only get the screen to bounce.
On mains power the scrolling is very jerky and not smooth, and if I try to send a text, random keys appear to be pressed even if my finger is far away from them.
As soon as I unplug the phone is fine. The phone was fine before the NoDo update so has anyone else noticed this ?
I don't have NoDo (7004) but my screen is jerky / less responsive when charging through mains.
It is in the user manual that this is normal and will behave as such whilst charging.
Thanks for the reassurance with regards to that one. Glad it's supposed to be like that and nothing new been added in with the update.
Since updating to NoDO via the hungarian method believe it or not i cant copy and paste!
Now am i doing something wrong?
It works throughout the phone inc in msg and in the browser, but i can't highlight anything!
I've also restarted my phone!
I'm flashed my phone with a ROM of Samfirmware.com
I'm thinking of going back to my original ROM that the phone came with its on HG3G but i dont know if i do a full phone reset will make it go back to original shipped.
Anyone know how to?
As far as I know that is how the c+p is supposed to work. It works on currently highlightable text such as messages etc..
I don't think you can copy/paste everything

Andy .. samsungs firmware is supposed to fix this behaviour. Not sure why it has reappeared with NoDo .. did you use Chevron for the update?
actually this bug is known by samsung and it's mentioned somewhere in the instructions booklet
Hello,
my Spica is having this issue: (video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdAtIBHYrAU)
after I unlock it I basically get one only chance to use the touchscreen and after it becomes insensitive.
It does not seem to be an hardware issue, but at the same time it does not make sense that there would be some software mulfaunction as I have just installed a fresh new rom.
Have you ever seen anything like this or are you familiar with this problem?
Thank you for your help.
Use hw keys to do factory reset, it may helps.
I kinda had this problem when the usb/charger is plugged in ..........is that the issue ?
unplug it
that's normal. You charger is not good stabilised, so some mV upside do this.
