Hello everyone.
First - i have to apologize for my bad english, i'm German
Like the most of you, I have rooted my HTC Magic with the Cyanogen mod.
If there was released an update, I tried to install it with the integrated Update Installer (Cyanogen), but this never had worked When the Phone was rebooting, I saw only the "red Vodafone Screen" ... ( i've waited 30 min )
So I took the Battery out of the Phone - replaced It - and then it was booting again - but without the update ...
I thought that this is a Bug, so i installed the Rom completely new (every time an update came)
But one fine day, after I installed an updated Rom, the Phone hangs up in the red Vodafone Screen ... the Trick with replacing the Battery didn't work!
Now I only see this damn red Vodafone Screen!
No matter what combinations I've tried out ("Home" + Power, "Vol. down" + Power, "Back" + Power, etc. ) - I only see this red Vodafone Screen! No three Sakters, No Recovery, No Fastboot, Nothing! Just this red screen ...
Then I found this manual, which is how to do a hard reset.
1. Hold the Soft1 and Soft2 Key and Press the RESET Button at the same time
2. Press SEND Button to confirm hardware reset
3. Press OK Button to double confirm hardware reset"
I can't find a reset button on the back. Also i don't know what "Soft1" and "Soft2" key mean.
Does anybody have an advice?
don't know if this will help but take ur battary out and leave it for 5-10mins then put it back in and then back + power ive had the red screen before and it just kept looping, hope this helps
Thank you for the answer - the battery was out of the phone for 20 min - but there's no function.
No Recovery ("BACK" + Power) and no normal boot - just the red screen

Did you wipe before install?
Nope ...
I've installed every Update from Cyanogen as a new Rom and never wiped my data. If there had been any problem, I would have wiped. But I had never problems, except this one

I had that on first application of 4.0.1, until backup, wipe, and start again.
How? How to wipe if I can't see the Recovery Screen ( the 3 Skaters ) ?!

Sorry for double-post, but i've found the solution!
By the red logo you do not see red text! The cell phone is waiting for an input!
It seemed the phone would hang - but it's only waiting for YOU
With this Code, I've restored my HTC Magic!
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase system -w
fastboot erase recovery
// Deletes the "bad" rom and the "bad" recovery
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash userdata data.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
// These Files should be backuped with Nandroid or an other Backup Software (Cyanogen Recovery 1.4)
fastboot reboot
// Reboots the Phone with your Backup!

Step 2: (Flashing System.img, data.img, etc.) shows a progress bar in the right Corner! That's all!
An so it lookes:
(Maybe you can add this in a FAQ or something else?)

I rooted this, installed clockworkmod, then went and got an cm7 dated april something 2012 u8160 rom from psyke83 website.
installed it through clockworkmod install from sd card option with success (also clicked option to backup everything).
yet when phone reboots it hangs on the blue arrow in a circle spinning around, sometimes reboots n repeats but it never goes past that.
I have tried going into recovery mode holding down volume buttons and power
and I get 1 of 2 errors:
with sd card in:
firmware update
step 1/2
unpacking
update failed
with sd card out:
purple screen.
I am a first time android modder, can someone please, please tell me how to fix this. I can access the sd card with a reader if need be to put whatever files on it that I should.
Thank you.
Start the phone by pressing volume up + power OR volume down + power. You should be able to boot to recovery with one of those combinations (other one boots to fastboot most probably). After that do the wipe data/cache and try to reboot once again.
What was wrong in the beginning was that you did not wipe data/cache. That made the CM use old OS's data files which obviously won't work.
The unpacking thing was caused by pressing volume up + volume down + power. That causes the phone to go to upgrade mode if there is an update package found.
Nope. still goes to the blue arrow circling then freezes then reboots....

You are right about me not wiping the data/cache though...
But in your phone forum, are there tutorials on how to boot to recovery? Do you have any other hard keys on the phone?
there is one other button but that didn't work either.

Hmm, would this work?
yay!!
it was volume up + power + cancel button (? maybe home button? not sure on what this button is but its the biggest).
wiped all data n cache n then it booted properly.
So the problem is solved? If you can, mark first post title with [SOLVED].

I've had that happen several times. Sometimes clearing Cache works. Most of the times you have to wipe /data partition with Custom Recovery. Now, after flashing with RSD you must go into Stock Recovery, and wipe /data with Stock Recovery. That will get your phone to boot up.
That "android with an ! logo" is the Stock Recovery. If you were on CM you would have had 2init installed, so to go to the Bootmenu/Custom Recovery, you have to press the VOL - button when the blue light turns on, not before, or else you might go to Stock Recovery.
When I flash with RSD, I always wait for the phone to reboot, and right when it reboots, I press the VOL + button so that it goes back into Bootloader, that way in RSD it shows the "Pass" message right away.

edit: when i need to see the blue light? because i get only red(to a second when i turn on) and white when it connected mcgyver style

Well, it seems like you've never used the Stock Recovery before. When you get to that screen you need to press both Volume + and - so that it shows the options.
With some stock SBFs I think you have to press the bottom left or right corners of the touchscreen for it to show the options, don't remember which side it is, and sometimes it's hard to hit the right spot, but it's there alright. Try with both volume keys first.
If you do manage to get it to show the options, do a Factory Reset, which wipes Data for you. Although, if you just flashed a stock ROM with RSD, there should be no blue light, just so you know.

defy stuck on boot loop
Mines doing this boot loop after running great for about 5 months. Seems I'll be able to get it back using methods detailed here. But is there a way I can keep my sms's bearing in mind I've not performed a back up for the last 5 months?
Anyone?
Does the advanced backup utility backup my sms data, so that i can do a wipe data factory reset?

Hey guyz,
Could you help me please? I have ZTE Blade TFT phone with 2 gen ROM.
Unfortunatly hardware buttons are not working and can't be repaired. After flashing new ROM my phone is stuck on Android logo.
I have CWM installed, but unfortunatly I can't perform hard reset due the broken buttons.
I can't reflash it via other method as well, cause factory recovery is replaced by CWM.
I can't use a TPT method as menu button is not working as well.
Could you please recommend me any method to recover my phone?
Any feedback is welcome!

Okay dude keep calm maybe your phone is still alive.
Check:
-Do you can enter FTM Mode?
-When you put the device @ charging , does it show a charging animation?
If so or not , pull out battery out of device for 4-5 hours (!) , then put battery back in and try to go in recovery! Maybe then it will go ... If you need to put another ROM to device , just 'Mount and Storage" -> "Mount USB Storage" -> connect phone via USB to Computer and you are able to put another ROM to sdcard.
When you install new ROM
-2x Wipe Data&Factory Reset
-2x Wipe Cache
-2x Wipe Dalvik (under 'Advanced')
-Not needed but you can Wipe Battery Stats
-Install .zip from sdcard
-choose .zip from sdcard
-choose ROM , install and reboot.
I hope it helped!

To get in fastboot you have to hold the vol up key for around second and then press power on while holding vol up. I mean you shouldn't hold the two buttons at same time to power up.
1. Hold Vol Up key
2.While holding vol up , wait 3 seconds
3 While holding vol up , press power on now. At least you hold two buttons.
4.You should now be in fastboot mode.

Hi there!
I bought a HD mini, and I wanted install android to device, but it not working! :/
I downloaded these files:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1756672
and I followed the nex steps:
1- Beginning, Extract the "LK Boot" to some where you like to begin, open folder and extract the "LK Boot Photonic SDCard.zip" and copy its files in "LK Boot Photonic SDCard" without folder to the Root of SDCard, also copy the Google Apps with CM9 Photon ROM to SDCard.
2- Installing Recovery, In the Phone WM6.5, Open Explorer and navigate to SDCard and touch at HaRET, or if you're on another CWM Recovery, Restart & in White HTC press & Hold Volume Down until you're in FastBoot Mode, You should be in Fast Boot Mode to Install Recovery both in WM6.5 or others, Connect the USB cable to the PC (it may ask you the Divers needed for the device) and the Drivers are in the folder in "LK Boot - Photon" in "Google Windows USB driver" folder. After that click on “Update.bat” and Install both of them, when it’s finished fine try reboot it.
But when I running the HaRET after I running update.bat and pressed the "2" button and pressed enter--> It worked normally on my pc, but after I pressed the volume up, and the phone didn't reboot! :/
It stop the white HTC screen and not write under HTC quietly brilliant, and not boot up! :/
Please help me!
After I want install the stock RUU Rom, but I always have ERROR [294], and I don't know which ROM need for my device!
I remember my rom type was WWE, but I don't know more from this! :/
Please help me!!
SORRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH! :/
So you have opened HaRET on your phone, and after this you should see some blue text texts on your phone, Then open update.bat while the USB must be connected with drives installed, press number one, then press number 2. which you will see immediately recovery on your phone.
and Remember, your recovery must be installed correctly or you won't see recovery by holding volume up, so you have to hold volume down while restart to resinstall recovery again by pc.
This is okay, but now the my phone don't boot up and I don't know how to I fix it, because the phone freezes at the HTC logo :/

Good to understand
So you can see the Recovery, but is it when you pressed volume up? or you used PC?
when you installed correctly the Recovery, you will never need PC again even if you wanted to change android ROMs.
answer me These:
Pull battery out and put it to device, Now Hold and press Volume UP + (still press on it your finger) then Power on device, until that you should see the recovery.
if you saw recovery, for this time only... just install the ROM zip ONLY (don't do anything nor formats!), and don't do anything other, after finished installation, restart your phone. and tell me what happens. and you should see installation completed or Phonerty texts! after that restart.

Dear XDA friends,
i always hoped not to be one of those guys, who f****d up their phones to the point of no return. I really screwed up this time. Well, here I'am writing you about my screw up.
I unlocked, rooted, flashed and repaired all kinds of android phones in the past years, never without problems, but I could always fix it somehow. Not so much this time.
Now I'm stuck at Bootscreen with the Zuk logo. I even have problems pinging the phone via ADB.
Sorry for my noobish question guys. Any help would be much appreciated.

I got this translated from a chinese website:
For fastboot mode:
The phone turned off; keep the connection turned off the data cable to the computer, press: [volume down key] [Power Key] waiting to enter the fastboot mode.
For recovery:
Turn off the device
Press and hold Power key
When vibrates Volume UP key + Volume Down key about 10 seconds
Release all key when Android logo appear then you will see Android System Recovery
Use Volume key to select Menu
Use Power key to Confirm
Can you enter any of these 2 modes?

The bootloop is just showing the ''ZUK logo'' in the middle of screen and "'powered by Android logo'' below, and the phone vibrates everytime it flashes these logos. I tried QFIL but it can only detects the unit on the first boot or first flash that is 2 secs. only from the time i press the power button, and then it disconnects and not detect the unit again. Does anyone know where can i find the scatter file , MTK ROM for zuk z1, i would like to try the SP flasher tool. Or if anyone have any idea how to solve this issue on lenovo zuk z1,pls. help.tnx
Can y get to fastboot ?
im facing the same problem after i had the stupid idea to lock the bootloader again, before that i flashed the phone successfully with the cm mod recovery and cm 13.
Has anyone found a solution to this ? or do i have to send it back ?
What i did exactly :
I locked the bootloader again and just to test it i tried flashing the recovery again , ofcourse it didn't work which was what i wanted.
Afterwards i rebootet the bootloader with sudo fastboot -i 0x2b4c reboot
now im stuck in a bootloop that i cant even stop , in other words i cant turn my phone off nor can i access the recovery or fastboot
Im feeling so stupid that i locked it again .... i will try to get into recovery after my phone ran out of battery but so far it looks quite bad...does anyone know if i will get a replacement even though it was my fault ? ( i don't need to say that it was my fault ..and the bootloader is now locked again )
UPDATE::

Please help , same problem
I am facing same issue too from 2 days. I didnt even try to flash custom roms or play with boot loader or recovery or anything. All of a sudden my phone entered boot loop. After two three bootloops phone is entering "12 apps optimized of 230 apps" mode, completing optimizing all apps and then failing to start apps, entering boot loop again.
Effort made so far to fix -
1) Went to recovery and cleared cache - didnt work
2) Went to recovery and did factory reset - factory reset did happen but boot loop didnt stop, I realized that factory reset happened because now its saying optimizing 120 apps instead of my 230 apps during the bootloop.
3) Went to recovery, Entered fast boot mode but not able to connect to PC. Fastboot devices is not showing anything. I made sure proper driver is installed after researching on XDA.
4) Went to recovery, Tried "Install update". Didnt install anything but browsed through folder structure and realized my data is intact
It will be great if someone can help me atleast recover my data before I handover phone to service center for fixing boot loop issue.
Same problem

The link is not accessible now. Can you let me know what you have done. My phone is in a boot loop now and showing only Logo and 'powered by Android' message. It keeps turning on and off again and again.
Guys when u are in fast boot mode .. pls install Twrp ... After insatlling that press power button abd vibration comes hold volum doen+volume up button at the same time ..
Then u will be getting recovery Twrp mode .. then connect it to pc and u will see internal srorage in pc...now u have to copy any rom to the phone and install it via Twrp ... Thats all
Sorry For Re-posting Here. This is Solution
Why this is happening ?
Due to Dirty Flash from Zui or from COS/CMOD but suddenly Bootloader gets locked
May be Due to Some Custom Rom which only works with Old Bootloader ( And you are on latest 2.5 Zui QPST Flash)
Reasons are many. I also did same mistake. I flashed ZUI 2.5 using QPST then unlock bootloader using official site installed twrp after wiping cache system and data , Installed Lineage 0S JAN Build then without rebooting installed Lineage Nightly build (Latest) with Gapps After rebooting Phone goes into Restart endless loop on ZUK Logo. Blink and Vibrate .. After 1hr I figured it out but its 5am So slept.
HOW TO FIX ENDLESS REBOOT ON ZUK Logo ?
-> Identity vibrate patterns (Press Power Key I count 6- 7 Vibration pattern ) After long Vibrate immediately remove finger from power key.
->Once its Done (Phone completely off)
Download QPST and Official COS QPST from this Link https://goo.gl/InWQji OR https://goo.gl/iqrnlI (I am personally Very Thankful to D tech Terminal for posting Wonderful video on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Dl6JkAVpuM
<- please install all drivers and software.->) @ankurpandeyvns Thanks bro.
Main Task is here and Lots of Patience is required and You also need to be very Blazing fast to achieve this.
-Once you download and install Qpst open Qfil
-Now press Volume Up only and connect USB (Just press POWER KEY only for 1 sec It will vibrate and connect)
-Without waiting hit Download button.
-Voila It will start flashing your phone again and Hence Your phone is now Revive..
-Once Revive You can use it to again flash custom Rom or stick to stock Rom if you want.
Keep Flashing !!!
Patience is Key here. And Don't lose hope.
:good:
EDITED:
While connecting to pc and by pressing Volume key you also need to press Power key for 1 sec or 2 sec until it gets detected. Thanks addicted777 (for tip)
