What we have for text, email, and the internet...........? What? You need to reword what you're saying.
What plan should i get from AT&T. for this phone device, i already have, Phone Service.. i need a secondary plan for Internet and stuff
I don't know what AT&T's plans are looking like these days, but I have mediamax 200. It gives me unlimited internet and 200 texts a month for $15. Although I think the regular price is more like $20.
im looking at this plan for 39.99 extra
PDA Personal Max
PDA Connect Unlimited data usages plus 1500 integrated Bolt-on for PDA devices only.
View Details
You need a compatible plan and phone to get this service.
but whats bolt-on?

Return it and get the 8925 (Kaiser/ TYTN II/ TILT). You should qualify for a free one if its within 30 days.
got it off ebay so i doubt it
When I got my plan Cingular offered 4 internet plans:
$20 - unlimited data
$40 - unlimited data
$60 - unlimited data
$80 - unlimited data
It was a pretty hard choice.
The only difference between cheap and expensive is that you get to use isp.cingular as your access point instead of wap.cingular.
yea i got the PDA Personal Max Unlimited for 49.99 it gives me unlimited Internet and Text Messanging
Hi,
I'm still using a grandfathered plan that contains unlimited data for $5.99. If I were to use my sim card in the Nexus, would I be able to have 3G? I have acquired a new sim card last year if that helps.
Thanks
Seems to be working fine in an unlocked phone.
I had a friend who was using an unlocked AT&T Tilt on T-Mobile's network. He recently bought a MT3G and it wouldn't let him sign in to his google account. He called T-Mobile and they told him he needed the Android plan to activate it. So he added that and it started working. I would keep your plan and try it, but don't buy the phone and expect that you will be able to keep it.

Do you have the $5.99 data plan on the N1? I'm not worried that it will work, just wondering if I will get 3G and not just EDGE. I'm using my $5.99 plan on the iPhone but getting EDGE due to frequency but I was wondering if T-Mobile can cap or restrict me to EDGE speed only due to my plan.
I am currently waiting on my N1 to show up; but I do know my G1, when I switched to it from my wing, didn't get any internet whatsoever until I had them update my plan to the 'android unlimited web'. And when I switched my plan from the 350 min myfavs to the 500 even more plus, I had to get them to tack on the same thing but in it's free version before I got 'net again. My friend has the $5.99 internet on his unlocked iphone. If I see him this weekend before you get an answer, I'll have him put his sim card in my N1 and see what happens.
Those of us who had the Ion, which was a developer phone and had no T-mobile branding, kept the 5.99 plan for a little while but the party eventually ended when the MyTouch was released. I would guess the same will happen with the N1... it'll work for a while, but then they'll prompt you to upgrade.
My G1 worked for a while with the old unlimited plan, but suddenly one day it stopped working, and all sites redirected me to a page saying I needed to upgrade my data plan. Just FYI.
Is this the same as the 5.99 T-zones plan thing that I have had my Dash rigged up to for the longest time? I didnt think anyone still has this plan but I get my phone tomorrow and I still have this plan though I think I am going to just go straight to 3g since I am going back to Phoenix in a week and I think their new network has rolled out there.
Would be interesting to get cheap internet though...

even if a get a couple months out of it that would be sick!
My friend has a n900 unlocked on tmobile
pays for the 10 dollar internet plan. Told them hes on some cheap motorola flip phone. There is no more 5.99 plan. And he gets 3g on his N900. So u save 20 a month by doing that.

Years ago, there was a 5.99 internet plan. Trust me, I have it... data has just gotten progressively more and more expensive over the years, it started at 5.99, then went to 10 then 20 now 25...
Luckily, I have been using the dash all this time, not the 3g dash, the oldschool one.... and ive had fully functional internet with it since my 5.99 internet plan has been grandfathered over the years...
this will be interesting to try out on my N1 that comes tomorrow...

the "extra money" from not having to get the new web plan right away is a breath of fresh air
Well actually way back then t-mobile had T-zone for only $2.99 and then they bumped it up to $5.99, and so on.
But after reading this thread. It appears to me that T-Mobile only finds out and block you from the $5.99 internet plan if your using a Google Phone. Because I have the TP2 from T-mobile, and my 3G internet is working fine. I have the $5.99 internet plan as well. This is very interesting.. Helps me decide between the HD2 and the Nexus 1... I think I will have to go with the HD2 for the cheap internet.

tomorrow i will test the 5.99 plan before i move over to to the 25 dollar one...
i tried cancelling my 24.99$ mytouch 3g plan online... THERES NO OPTION TO CANCEL IT! WTF???
Now, I know there are lots of threads on this already and I took a few minutes skimming search results and didn't find this answered.
Basically, I was hoping to switch myself to the $10 internet plan on T-Mobile rather than paying the $25 internet plan. I bought my phone unlocked from Google.com and not subsidized through T-Mobile. However, when I asked to switch to the other plan, they asked me for my IMEI number on my phone.
Has anyone else been asked for their IMEI when switching to a different data plan? Do they actually have a database of the existing N1 IMEI numbers or are they simply trying to build one? Would I be better off grabbing an old Razr and giving them that IMEI then switching back to my N1?
Lots of questions! Haha.
Anyway, if anyone could shed a bit of light on this I would very much appreciate it.
No, a few months after the initial G1 release T-Mobile caught on to the "scam" and closed the loophole. You have to have an Android data plan now or nothing.

Hmm.. I was under the impression that this was solely for subsidized phones which they already had IMEI's for.
So, in the end, you're stuck paying the extra cost for the Android version of Web even if you bought it unlocked then huh?

Pretty much--don't know what to tell you I bought the phone outright since I didn't want to kill my plan to be forced on the N1 T-Mobile individual plan for at least 4 months...and I was forced to go onto the $25/mos plan from my $20/mos BlackBerry plan.
EDIT: They didn't ask me for what my IMEI number was though. In T-Mobile's system it will probably say I still use a BlackBerry device
The IMEI numbers update automatically in the system on a 2 day lag. So whatever phone you use today will reflect in their system on Saturday. As far as the $10 data plan, it will not work. It should say something to the effect that "you don't have the proper provisioning" or something like that. Basically your eating up too much bandwidth. You obviously had enough money to buy a Nexus 1, but won't pay for the premium data plan? That's the same thing as buying a brand new Ferrari and asking your friends for gas money to go out? At least I see it that way

I see... bummer.
And, as far as buying an N1 and not paying for the premium plan, the premium plan is great as long as you have a job to afford it. When you get laid off, not so much.

I am currently using a 5.99 plan on my nexus. fast 3.5g internet for really cheap price. it works just fine. they have my imei. they know I am using the internet like that but they don't do anything about it. by simply putting in the epc.tmobile.com apn you'll get full internet on any plan. but this only works for the nexus. no other android phone can use this because tmobile provides the phones not Google.

From what I have been able to find out, if you had the old $6 T-Zones, you were able to be grandfathered in when they cancelled the service. The cheapest net they offer now is the "Phone First/Web2Go" internet which is $10 a month. Essentially the same thing just 4$ more.

Good analogy. However, people don't get rich by spending money. If you can find a way to pay less, you do it. Some people made a financial stretch to afford the N1 and now cannot afford to pay for a premium data service.
Data service is data service and should not be dependent on device. At least I see it that way.
Hey, I'm all fur finding ways to pay as little as possible.
But let's not pretend an extra $15 is breaking the bank.
Hello, I just cancelled my cable TV after realising u rarely watch the 200 channels available.
And all the network channels i can get using a $15 pair if rabbit ears.
HD, .5.1
Next to go is the phone. Experimenting with magic jack this month.
All I want to pay for is high speed internet.
I'll save at least $120 a month
I think the grandfathering is BS because when I first got my G1 I had T-Zones on my old v3 and they made me switch to the newer data plan. To clarify, they had to do it because of activating the phone, so I don't know if you just buy it outright and don't tell them it could work.

I got my phone unlocked. I didnt give them my IMEI, they automatically know it once your sim card is in the phone. Ive had the 5.99 tzones plan for a while now, but this article should help you out http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/5381...ed-data-for-5-99-works-wiphone-and-nexus-one/
edit: this comment by a user might also be helpful.
"as an alternative, i was able to set this up without customer service's help. this was more than a year ago when I setup tzones to work on my treo 650. the trick was that i had an old phone sony ericcson t300 that i had purchased back in 2000 or 2001. I keep it around because if i have an emergency where my phone or my wife's phone stops working i can transfer the sim card quickly to a working phone to make/receive a call. So here's what i did:
setup my sim card in the t300.
make a call or send a text message; long enough to let the t-mobile servers detect that I have switched phones.
log in to t-mobile.com
verify that my phone is now detected as a t300. if not, click on the "not my phone" and change it.
next, adjust service plans, t-zones appears on the list.
add tzones to your billing cycle. make any additional changes you need to make.
save the settings.
change your sim card back to the original phone.
setup the phone for t-zones service"
T-mobile has two data plans.
1) Data plan
2) Sidekick data plan
They have a ton of different pricing for number 1) , the $10 smart web, the $15 dollar smartphone plan, and the $25 android plan.
(I'm not even including all the grandfathered plans like t-zone/t-mobile shadow/blackberry,etc)
The point being they are all the same, they use the same servers, they are all unlimited, so If you can manage to get any of those plans on your bill you will have full 3g/HSPA speed internet on your phone, regardless of what phone it is.
I went around shopping today for a HD2 ..
Trying to get the HD2 and sign a new 2yr contract family plan with 3-4 lines..and most the stores will offer it to me for free plus $50-100 bucks back. The only catch is they won't open the line unless i also sign up for the $30 data plan... which i don't want.
Some of the reps told me the alternative is to buy the international version of the phone without data plan but they want me to cough up a extra ~$200+ some dollars out of my pocket to get it.
I went to this one store and said they would give me the T-mobile version of the phone plus some money back as well without the data plan and the way he'll do it is not record the IMEI during the sign up...... really interesting proposition !!!
Does that really work ???? Not record the IMEI number... he said i won't have warranty if he doesn't not record the IMEI. I guess my real question is will Tmobile find out i have the HD2 and force data plan on my contract some time down the 2 year contract.....
Do you really want to risk the chance of not having a warranty though....???
I thought they had to list the IMEI when you sign up in order to establish the acct. but you never know. Just give it a long thought b/c you wouldnt want the phone to be defective after allowed time period and then have to pay $130 (assuming you get insurance) for another one....
He said i can't buy the insurance or claim any type of warranty because then T-mobile will get the IMEI and probably enforce the data plan. So i really don't know how this works....
In any event... if i pay $30 a month X 24 months i'm going to be out $720, by that time i've spent enough money to buy TWO HD2..... $720 dollars worth of service i don't really need because i have Wifi in most the places i travel to.
Yes it will work but you won't have any data at all. It will just say your phone is not supported on this network. In the future if you want data or text its $30 unlimited for both text and data. Or if you have skype you can get unlimited data alone for $39.99. I was thinking of that for a while. I think the dataplan is how they give you the phone, I thought it was mandatory so he may be cheating tmo out of money. Tmo stores are mostly independent and will lie cheat and steal from you any chance they get. I remeber one friend saying they were nice enough to recognize his IME and upgrade his dataplan automatically. Your Tmo guy may not tell you this. I would call Tmobile and order the phones you want online. If you don't want data but want an HD2 what about getting an HD2 on craigslist for $250 new and selling what you get from tmo, either a Touch Pro 2 , or a BB 9700 I think right now. Or get your kids phones on the plan and buy yours on CL.
If you get the international version, you won't have 3g too. If you ever changed your mind about the data plan, you would be using it with edge. MUCH slower. Just buy the t-mobile one off craigslist and don't go on the internet via t-mobile. Just wifi. Ive never seen them put it on when someone doesn't have any internet. If you had the cheap internet plan, ive seen them refuse access to the internet until you buy the more expensive one but even that you can get around by changing the apn. Hell, im using my hd2 with $5.99 t-zones! With the epc apn! (Every time i call t-mobile about something, they give me this horror story about how my phone will shut off or stop working if i don't get the full data plan. They push it VERY hard but i keep refusing. I pay $100 in data plans on all my lines already!)

Really and HD2 without a data plan is like buying a Lamborgini without an engine ...
It'll look good sitting in your garage, but what ya gonna do with it ???
Seriously , get the data plan , if you live in an area with HSDPA or even better HSDPA+ it is worth it, with the latter you can get upwards of 7 meg or so down in good coverage area, the data plan is pretty cheap for that kind of bandwidth ...
If not , just get you a pda and cheap phone ...

Yeah. i dont want to lose my data b/c its more dependable. but i have been hearing from a few ppl that their txt is included in that chrge. Maybe i need to actually take a look at my statement...
I'm fully aware that the international version does not support the proper radio freq for Tmobile 3G but i've never heard of the phone not working because of the lack of data plan, the phone should work without the internet.
I refuse to pay $30 for 3G access when i have wifi ..... i have a HTC TYTN2 right now and all i do is make calls, txt and GPS... i rarely use the internet. I could care less about all the features i won't be able to use without data plan i'm in it more for the eye candy...... Now if they offered $30 for 4G access i would consider it.
Will this work like the Nexus One on a tmobile internet for $10 if I bought a unlocked version? Like if I can change the mms settings..
If you try the the cheaper data plans not meant for smartphones for an unlocked Nexus S, please write here to tell us how it goes and if it works or not.. Thanks!!
We'll find out on thursday.
My wife called T-mobile last week and they said they discontinued the "smartphone/non-smartphone" unlimited web distinction. They said basically, if you use less than 200 mb/month, you pay $10/mo, if you regularly go over 200mb, you pay $30

thats different, the old plan was $20 for unlimited text and internet
Im sure it will work... I don't see why not.
FWIW, I just checked on my nexus s, and the 5.99 tzones plan is working for internet access just like it did on the nexus one...so I think the $10 internet plan should work too.
Just make sure you buy the full price phone...or else they will require you to pick up a more expensive web plan.
