CyanogenMod users read now!

Ok so i was on twidriod checking the newest tweets, and i see a tweet that AdrianK sent starting basicly how Google sent Cyanogen notice telling him to stop making roms becuase he is distributing Googles closed sorced apps. Gtalk, maps, ect. Check this link and see for urself. Its time for us to show google how we feel about them sending notice for using their closed source apps". So let us show google their wrong doings in restricting the moding of the android os and the stock apps included! Below is the link to the article!

Geez, first we have to root our g1's to get full access, then we have to run a script/app to actually install as many apps as we please, now this??? **** google they are turning into ****ing apple. Open source my ass ****ing hole.
My g1 broke and I sent it to get fixed, if this **** keeps up I'm selling it when it gets back and waiting for the sholes or something not backed by ***** ass google.

They did try. Eventually they gave up. Even XDA got notices and threats from them back in the day. I think off side anonymous file hosting made it hard on them to shut everyone down.

This is what I keep thinking. Everyone is making a big deal about it. And while I do agree google should go **** themselves, it seems that unless I'm missing something, he should just release the updates w/o these apps. You then add them in to the zip, right click, resign, and proceed as normal.

Let me start off by saying I'm a huge NFL Football fan and a DIE-HARD Philadelphia Eagles fan!! I decided to try skinning various items on my phone to rep my team. I've started by creating a simple eagles dialpad skin for my stock sprint 6.5 dialer using photoshop. I liked it so much I decided to make one for every NFL team and share with the community that has so greatly shared with me. Here's a preview of what my eagles dialpad looks like..
Edit: These are made to work with stock sprint rom which uses a dialer with portrait dimensions of 480x272. If you use verizon or a custom rom with the larger button layout, let me know and i'll remake it in the slightly larger size for ya..
Below I've attached cab's and screenshots for all 32 NFL teams. I've seperated them by division.
EDIT: All *4* Sets of Dialpad and *1* Set of banner skin cabs, as well as screenshots, can be found on the 1st 3 pages. Leave comments and let me know what you guys think. Enjoy..

How much data can you actually obtain from an app/game?

I mean in terms of user habits. Can you:
- find out when the user is using your app/playing your game
- where they are geographically located (assuming they accept this prior to install)
- what the user has done in your game/app (as in what level they are at for games, or what data they searched for in your app)
- how often they click the banner ads in your app (if you own the banner ad for example)
- which banner ads they click (if you own the banner ad for example)

or a iphone app for that matter.

i don't like the way this conversation is going. if your intentions were good, fair and honest, you'd be asking 'how to make this kicking app', not 'how to monitor my users'. the first bit comes before the second one. and the second bit is just basic knowledge that you'd use from the first one.

Im doing this because I am writing a research report on app privacy. I am a Ph.D student. I have no programming background to ever create an app. I am just trying to post on forums with knowledgeable people like this one to gain a bit more understanding of the privacy issues of the iPhone vs. Android.

it's very simple. look at the docs for android, think how it could be used to monitor users, et voila. an app could have total access to the phone meaning all data that is on it could be monitored by an app. whether the user will use your app that wants all these permissions is unlikely and you really are asking a pointless question.
you are a phd student, i'll assume you can think for yourself, and so you sh/could be researching this for yourself by reading the docs (mind you, you will have to think though). no one is going to come out and say juicy things like "well, if you do this, you can get this info and this info and use it to do this" because it's probably going to be illegal. it's your paper, your credit, think man, think.

You think a light hearted injection of humour is "trolling"? It never ceases to amaze me how so many people turn into simple-minded robots when they're on forums - if a situation arrives which their minds cannot compute or sense the subtlety of, they feel the need to HAVE to categorise the person who made the comment, by pidgeon-holing that person into an extremely simplistic, black or white "box"... such as calling me a "troll", because I was having a laugh.

I FEEL SO LUCKY TO KNOW THIS APP
Hello everyone, today I'm going to tell you a funny story that happened to me. Yesterday, I invited my friends to come and gather. After eating and drinking, we planned to sit and watch a great movie. The problem started when I couldn't find the TV remote. I rummaged everywhere in the house, but I couldn’t find where in the world it was. To be honest, I felt so useless and shy at that time because I kept everyone waiting. @n0j0e This is a legit thread on XDA and no spam. The download link for the application - you're right it's hidden behind an URL Shortener - refers to a free application on Google Play Store. The used URL shortener is not a pay-per-click, pay-per-view or pay-per-whatever shortener i.e. the use of bit.ly on XDA is allowed. There's no violation of any forum rule.
However, I've removed the link from your post, by which you intended to show your personal preferences. To promote a different application in a thread that presents an application is considered disrespectful towards the threadowner. I suggest to consider to only report posts or threads, from which you think they violate the rules, but not to publicly post your "concerns" in the thread. Thanks for your cooperation!

I don't think so. The lame canned intro story gave it away IMHO.
If I invite friends to my house and I don't find the remote, they better all help me find the damn remote. If all else fails, we talk and forget about the TV. What I mean is that the whole created situation is as fake as it gets.

Reminds me of the stolen phone "help unlock this phone" threads with the long winded stories of bs ie my dead mom's, uncle's, brother's etc with a lifetime of family photos etc, etc. Long winded meaningless stories is the hallmark of a lot of BSers. They seem to think that adding words adds credibility... it tends to just pi$$ me off instead though. Philly fast talkers, confidence men. Seen them and played with them in the flesh.
Not saying it is, but the OP should stick to the facts. I thought it smelled like spam too
