Boot:
Copy all files to the root of your sd card, replace zimage (with the one from rogro82) and run haret (included).
What's working:
- Calander
- IM
- Market
- Google Mail
- Email
- SMS
- Audio
- Dialer
- Adding Contact
- Import Contact from Sim
- Calling the added Contact
- Internet
- Google Maps
- Phone calls (with full audio support)
- Turn screen on/off without problems
- Buttons are mapped right
Known issues:
- Telefone isn't disconnecting when pressing red button (you must press the on/off button)
Solution for screen flickering:
Use "board-htcvogue.panel_type=3" in default.txt
Internet isn't working:
Besure that you have a active data connection in Windows Mobile -> Boot Android -> lauch Togga and click on "Connect"
If you can't find "Togga":
You should just make a folder called "AndroidApps" in the root of the sd card and put this file in there:
http://retrobits.googlecode.com/files/Togga_103.apk
It installs when android starts. Now you should have "Togga" in your programs list.
Solution for "No Network" "Not Registered"
You must disable sim pin in winmo, than run haret.

Put your the right title
bug found when switch OFF and ON when the screen repears the top bar is split in two part.

thanks =) changed the title.

Good job! Finally a thread where everyone can put there issues with Android without spamming the development thread.
You could add some known issues and answers to the startpost if you want (see below).
Known issues:
- Audio isn't working
- Starting camera results in a crash
- Screen displacement while turning screen on (temporary solution: click power button until screen is aligned right)
- Mapping buttons not optimal
Solution for screen flickering: use "board-htcvogue.panel_type=3" in default.txt
Internet isn't working: Besure that you have a active data connection in Windows Mobile -> Boot Android -> lauch Togga and click on "Connect"
And maybe add what works and what doesn't work.

Android boot's fine, and calls seem to work as well. But that is Togga? I've searched the forum and looked around in the Android menues without getting any wiser.

You can find Togga at the bottom of the main menu (be sure that you have the latest files from dzo (16-01-2009 or 19-01-2009, see startpost).
When you launch Togga and click on "connect" then Togga setup a data connection.

I have a question more than a new bug; Is the android version in these downloads some kind of testing or special development version? Because i miss certain options that are available on the G1 (like Gmail for instance). I would like to check out how android integrates with my google apps account. Calendar, Contact and Gmail i mean. And, if so, is there a way to update to a full version of android without losing the kernel stuff?

If you can't find "Togga" in your programs list then you should just make a folder called "AndroidApps" in the root of the sd card and put this file in there:

Maybe adding this into the startpost? And maybe it is clarifying to setup the different solutions as follows:
Internet isn't working
blablabla
I can't find Togga
Download Togga at http://....
Keep up the great work!

Android isn't a specific development or testing version (for as far as I know). I think when Android is fully working all these applications will be working too.

I'm getting a "Kernel Panic". It says that something is "not syncing".
I've got:
- Khax Touch Diamond V2.
- Radio 1.59.44.02
- Active internet connection (WiFi)
- The file I extracted to the root of my SD card is:
android-19-01-09.zip from http://it029000.massey.ac.nz/vogue/android-19-01-09.zip)
Size: 36,1 MB (37.816.774 bytes)

Two things:
your active internet connection needs to be via gprs rather than wifi - there are no wifi drivers available yet.
you need to replace the Zimage that you have now with the one listed from rogro at the top of this thread.
hope that helps

Use data.gz, haret.exe, initrd.gz, system.img and default.txt from latest android files 19-01-09
use rogro's latest zimage http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=147804&d=1232304684
WIFI don't work yet.
You must have a gprs/umts connection in winmo to get internet running.

Doing this way it works perfectly! Thanks a lot
It has a very slow startup.
SIM contacts are not accesed.
- Phone OK
- Internet Browser OK (some problems pressing buttons)
- Google Maps OK
- The search with Google at the right side of the home screen is not working. I could not enter any text. The keyboard just didn't appear.
Quite good, indeed!!! It looks amazing. What a big difference in the interface design... compared to Windows Mobile

Only the first startup is slow, the second should be faster.

i use the last zimage from rogro. it works and boots without problems.
good work.
some more things wich don't really work:
- Calendar is not opening
- telefone is not disconnecting when i press the red button
- gallery is not working - because of camera problem ? but i can access my photos over OI File Manager and over the wallpaper-menu
- IM is not opening
sound is disabled because of my old radio (1.59.42.15)...
which is the last version i should flash on my device to get it work?
i can connect to internet with togga - it shows me ip and everything - but neither google maps nor email nor browser find this connection. (server not found) also a radio issue?

Cant boot with sim card inserted, wihout sim all works fine. Last radio.

Making good progress!
Hi Everyone,
First off, thank you again to marcelkordek for starting this thread, using the instructions at the beginning I was able to get a working setup that I look forward to testing up coming zimages with. This is the first time I have been able to connect to the web and make calls with Android on my phone!!!
I can pretty much confirm all the listed known bugs but can also add the following one.
*Cannot import contacts from SIM gives an error 'No contacts on your SIM card'.
Polaris - HTC Touch Curise.
M-Amime 2.0 WWE
1.59.44.02
Also is there a way to exit out of Android back to Windows Mobile instead of doing a reset?
Cheers
Ben

Congrats to the developers, and to marcelkordek for creating this thread.
Running fast and most importantly stable - can really see this being a viable alternative once the audio, contacts, calendar and sms/email bugs are sorted out.
Looking forward to the next update!
As there's nothing to 'install' (just copy stuff to the root of your memory card) I encourage everyone to take a look at this. Once you've finished playing, just soft reset and you're back to your Windows ROM.

Should we overwrite the zimage that comes with the 19-01-01 Android Package with the one from rogro82 ..?
I used the one from the extra archive.
Maybe also worth to include on the 1st post that after copying everything into the root directory you just start haret.exe
Content of root folder
Code:
20/01/2009 08:01 <DIR> AndroidApps
13/11/2008 11:58 2,527,781 data.gz

- Running of 0.4pre3 (Updating that soon)
In Short, this project is about porting Google's Android OS (Which is running under Linux) into our devices.
This project is still in BETA, and there are many features not available yet.
We believe that we will move from strength to strength.
This thread is originated from the Linwizard, Now What? thread. As we found a new goal, we decided a new page is necessary.
--
How this works?
Windows Mobile runs on your concurrent phone, so when Android is being boot up on the device, it will actually 'kick off' the RAM working concurrently on Windows Mobile and use the entire RAM for linux itself.
After soft-reseting, everything will go back to normal.

News Centre
News updates for this project.
Updates:
Milestone: Release 0.5 for Wing Linux
This release will primarily focus on upgraded system components.
Linux Kernel 2.6.32 or later (aligned to upstream)

Wanted
Developers for Sound needed for device.
How to get started with Wing Linux?
- Backup your SD Card and Phone before doing anything!
We have a few cases with wiped out data, better do it, guys!
1) Go to the Wing Linux's Website
2) Get Wing Linux's 0.4.2 (here)
3) Get our very own HTC Elf/Elfin Cab (Dont Worry, what you press on the phone will be what you get!)
4) Install both Wing Linux 0.4.2 cab and the Elf cab in your storage card (So make sure you have at least 512mb free storage space in your memory card)
How to get Google Android started?
1) After installing the cab as mentioned above, go to programs, and start Wing Linux
2) Press run!
3) After seeing 20000++ lines of code, you will reach an install screen (which is blue in colour)
4) You will take sometime there as our phones do not have a physical keyboard. So wait for it to install.
5) After that, the calibration utility will start, make sure you tap the right corners of the screen (The calibration process is only ONCE, so once you click the wrong corners, good luck, we need more steps to get it back working!)
6) Android will start loading and you are ready to get blasted!
Key Commands!
Green button - Back
Red button - End Call
Center (joystick) - Menu
Up (joystick) - Up
Down (joystick) - Down
Left (joystick) - Left
Right (joystick) - Right
Camera - Back
Sound Up - Volume Up
Sound Down - Volume Down
How to copy files / install apps into Android using Windows
1) Install this 'Ethernet Gadget' Drivers (In order to let the phone talk to the PC)
- It works for both Windows XP and Vista (There will be prompts here and there)
- Settings for network card
ip: 10.100.0.2
mask: 255.255.0.0
2) Download WinSCP
3) Install em!
4) Key in the following settings into WinSCP:
- Server: 10.100.0.1
- Username: root
- Password: wing
5) To install Google Android Apps
- Make sure to download the app first!
6) Put the .apks to /system/app/directory through WinSCP
- (ex: scp xxx.apk [email protected]:/system/data/)
7) Done! It will show up in the application list!
What is not working yet?
- Camera
- Sound
- Wireless
- Bluetooth
- Standby Mode
- "Power Off" phone.
From the status of this project, you CAN use this phone for ..
- Surfing GPRS (Needs some setting up to do)
- SMS
- Calender
- Contacts

QNA
Q: Which Device Can Run This?
A: A GSM HTC Touch / It works for both Elf and Elfin (Yay!)
If you use a CDMA version of HTC Touch, please go to your Vogue forum.
Q: Is my phone Elf or Elfin?
A: Go to Start > Settings > System > Device Information > Hardware tab, if the 'RAM size' shows 64MB it's an Elf, if it shows 128MB for RAM and 256MB for Flash then it's the Elfin. (This doesn't matter as Wing Linux is able to run on both, just added this question for reference only)
Q: How big is this thing?
A: It is about 300mb (Estimated), as the image is already 250mb.
Q: My phone cant connect to the network
A: Please switch off the Sim Password on your phone using Windows Mobile first before coming into Android.
Q: How to get Data (GPRS) working on your device
A: Go to your settings menu in Android and change your APN options, you can get that from your carrier.
Q: How to re-calibrate the screen?
A: Go to storage card, than go this folder called 'linux', than open default.txt. Look for the line that says "set CMDLINE", add "reset_ts" to it.
Remember to remove that once you're satisfied with the calibration.
(If Microsoft Word asks you to save it in their format, always say no)
Q: If I am using the Herald Cab and running on the outdated 0.4pre3, how can I get the correct key mappings?
A: See here
Q: I have some questions about Android
A: Post it here and I should be able to respond as I am using an Android phone at the moment.
Q: I have more questions ...
A: Post it here and someone kind will be able to respond. Do not PM me. Thanks
Q: I wish the hang out and chat about Wing Linux on the net in real time.
A: Join us on the IRC: #wing-linux on freenode.org

Sure man, my pleasure to help.
whoa! this is coool man. thankx for sharing...m gonna run android on me phone...that is COOOL
It's a real Android OS? What's with WM? And how is the speed on the Elf?
oh yeah!!!
now im booting elfdroid with the correct keymaping( thanks a lot jeremy)
thumbs up to you!!!
very tidy post...
and developers, thanks a lot...
now im gonna play with my elfdroid...
on question?
there is microsd card support?
and camera support?
why dont you make a list of the full features of the elf/in and which one works in the current project?
it will be great!!!!
lets calibrate the screen...
...
and i think that this android its a battery eater...
thanks to everybody!!!
ok so i have been following this:
2) Rename the downloaded file to zImage and copy it to /Storage Card/linux
3) Modify your default.txt to have an MTYPE of 2372
4) Delete your rootfs.img file to force the installer to re-run (and to clean away any custom qwerty.kl files you may have)
5) Boot into Wing Linux and let the installer run
6) Your Key Mappings is up to date and you do not need to modify it anymore!
i get into android but keys arent mapped...
any clue?
thanks in advance!
Tried to install but it seems to be hanging in an htcharald login: screen where nothing happens. When i push some buttons some letters appear but there is no key to accept apparently. Using ELF for this. Also there are multiple cabs in the Wing Linux package, one big one and a couple of smaller ones that all seem to be the same thing (if you install them they will keep telling you that they will uninstall the old version before installing.)
Any tips?
instal first the big cab and then th e herlad one...
after that donload the zimge-elf and change its name to overwritte the original...
then you have reach as far as me... you can run android, just wait
BECAUSE THE FIST LOADING IS AS SLOW AS BALLS...
good luck!
it looks great, many thx
To Hordo:
I installed wing-linux-0.4pre3-rootfs.cab and then only wing-linux-0.4pre3-herald.cab from second link.
Now copy zImage for functional keyboard and Go testing.
Many THX

Hey does anyone knows how to make the phone vibrate? I know we haven't got sound working yet but how about it to vibrate?
Sorry for my few posts asking this question but I nobody seems to have the answer
EDIT: I now have a problem with messaging, when I try opening messaging program, a window appears saying something with ONLY a button to Force close, bud I hadn't time to read :S Anybody got an idea? (I worked before I receive a SMS and sent one yesterday, but today, I couldn't get it working after several reboots)
try to read before asking things that are well documented
http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/wing-linux/wiki/Status
I've read it but it still doesn't give me an answer! I'm not talking about sound but about PHONE TO VIBRATE when receiving a SMS (and I received a SMS and set phone to vibrate so I don't see the reason why it doesn't =/)
can this be reversible? after i install this can i go back to wm easily or flash again a new wm OS?

you dont lose your wm by doing this. android must be started from within wm, so u can get ride of it by just deleting the folder.
a soft-reset on the phone will take u back to wm.
great post mate....but I think the author should edit the first post or give a link as to things that arent yet supported on our phone
Thanks...
First of all Thanks a ton, for your post. I was eager to try Andriod OS. I followed your given steps and successfully was able to run Andriod but I am facing some problems, hope you can help. First problem is that my SIM does not have password, but still it says NO NETWORK (didn't remember exact error message), therefore cannot make any calls. Another problem is that when I press the end call button (the RED one) it keeps on showing a verbose view and some scrolling text after every few seconds. Whats the problem and how to rectify it?
Thanks a lot.
what cabs i should install?
1 wing-linux-0.4pre3-gene.cab 1.5 KiB
2 wing-linux-0.4pre3-herald.cab 1.6 KiB
3 wing-linux-0.4pre3-prophet.cab 1.5 KiB
4 wing-linux-0.4pre3-rootfs.cab 36.8 MiB
5 wing-linux-0.4pre3-wizard.cab 1.6 KiB
installing #5, then #2 it says "the previous version of Wing-Linux - Board Support will be removed before the new one is installed." and when i click OK, it install but i dont see Wing- linux on programs... is this correct? im getting 1.6kb??????

PLEASE READ THE FAQ BEFORE POSTING QUESTIONS
Introduction:
To run any Linux based user space on a device -this includes android, debian, ubuntu, openembedded, etc- you need a working Linux kernel.

All android ports to windows phones are based on the efforts of porting the Linux kernel to these devices. This is what all the porting is about. Nobody is porting Google Android to these phones. It works already.

09/05/2010 We have been working on a new kernel base for the HD2 for few days now. Markinus started the initiative by introducing our present HD2 specific changes in the EVO4G release kernel source code. Right now the htc-msm-2.6.32 branch is still more advanced. We might create an autobuild for the EVO4G base kernel in case it will be superior at some point.
Builds
Global notes:
*None of the current releases will touch your internal flash. After restart you are back in the usual winmo.
*When Linux is booted, windoes mobile is shutdown abruptly. Although this is very rare it can cause some data loss. Please save your work and make frequent backups!
*You need at least a 2.08 radio rom version installed on your HD2. If yu have an older version you might not be able to boot Linux.

Most recent zImage (Linux kernel image)
zImage-htcleo-latest
The Linux kernel is the core element of your operating system. It contains most of the drivers. It is supplied in form of a compressed (gzipped) executable binary Image. Along with an initial rootfilesystem aka initrd it is loaded into memory and executed by the bootlaoder HaRET.
Most recent Linux kernel modules to match zImage-htcleo-latest (has bcm4329.ko)
modules-htcleo-latest.tgz
Kernel modules are drivers that are not included in the zImage. They go seperately in .ko files. bcm4329.ko holds the wifi driver and tun.ko is needed for tunneling. For android use you must extract the modules.tgz file, search for the .ko files you need and copy them into /system/lib/modules/ directory. See FAQ for how to copy files into your android install.
HaRET (bootloader)
HaRET.exe
The haret bootloader is used to start Linux according to the instructions it reads from the file default.txt . If HaRET sees a file called startup.txt it will use this instead and boot Linux directly without any prompt.
startup.txt (bootloader/HaRET configuration - auto updated to match latest GIT kernel)
startup.txt
NOTE: This example configuration only holds the parameters critical to booting with latest GIT. Ask the person supplying you with 'roms' for additional parameters needed. See FAQ section for more detail on parameters.
Android
Please browse the main HD2 Android forum for various recent builds.
It is always important to install a recent kernel. See post #3 for how to.

INSTALLING NEW LINUX KERNEL (zImage) AND MODULES (.ko files)
Three Things to know about the Linux kernel
1) The Linux kernel is the center of your of your operating system. Its core is seated in the kernel image (zImage file - the z means it is compressed). It contains most of the drivers.
2) Some drivers go external via Linux kernel modules (.ko files). E.g. in the HTC HD2 Linux kernel, the WiFi module is supplied as bcm4329.ko
3) The kernel image and kernel modules are made to match. They need to have the exact same version. This means if you pick a random .ko file things might go wrong => Find always up to date kernel image and matching modules here
Editing startup.txt
1) The following lines are needed in startup.txt to make GIT kernels work in any build !
set mtype 2524
set ramaddr 0x11800000
set ramsize 0x1E400000
set initrd_offset 0x00a00000
set kernel zImage
<ADDITIONAL PARAMTERS GO HERE!!!!!!!!1 Remove this line.>
bootlinux
Click to collapse
2)Additionally you need to specify the following. Those parameters are dependent on the build you use. Look them up in your present startup.txt
*Initial ram disk filename (set initrd initrd.gz)
*Command line paramters (set cmdline "foo=bar google=android" )
Click to collapse
Installing the latest Linux kernel image (zImage)
1) Download the latest Linux kernel image (right click, save file as)
1a)for Google Android
1b) for classical GNU/Linux based distros (Ubuntu, openemebdded, meego, maemo etc)
Be aware these build links are dynamic and will be updated once the Linux kernel source code is updated. See here for static links
2) Rename the file to zImage
3) Overwrite your old zImage file with the newly obtained zImage file
Click to collapse
Installing the matching Linux kernel modules (.ko files)
1) Download the latest Linux kernel modules to match your kernel image
1a) for classical GNU/Linux based distros (Ubuntu...)
1b) for Google Android
2) Install the modules...
2a) in GNU/Linux
As root run
cd /
tar xvf /path/to/modules-htcleo-usbhost-latest.tgz
Click to collapse
2b) For Google Android...
extract the modules-htcleo-latest.tgz file
you will notice it contains a directory structure.
example for module locations within modules-htcleo-latest.tgz :
WiFI module:
lib/modules/2.6.32.9-38151-g827fa85/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/bcm4329_204/bcm4329.ko
Network tunneling module:
lib/modules/2.6.32.9-38151-g827fa85/kernel/drivers/net/tun.ko
Yet Another Flash Filesystem module:
lib/modules/2.6.32.9-38151-g827fa85/kernel/fs/yaffs2/yaffs.ko
Basically you want to copy all .ko files you need into /system/lib/modules directory
Learn 3 Methods to do so detailed in the following:
memin1857 said:
Three different methods for replacing bcm4329.ko (which makes wifi work) Method B seems to be the best.
Easiest: (uses winmo, does not use third party app or commands)
A) (MAY ONLY WORK FOR SHUBCRAFT BUILD) Under winmo, create a folder named root inside your Android folder in your sdcard. This folder named root will be the actual root when Android boots up.
For example:
Create this folder structure under winmo:
STORAGE CARD\Android\root\system\lib\modules
and copy the bcm4329.ko file in it. It will look like this:
STORAGE CARD\Android\root\system\lib\modules\bcm4329.ko
Boot Android and the file gets copied to the protected Android file system. (/system/lib/modules)
If you do this from within Android, reboot to take effect.
B) Start a Terminal Emulator within Android. (Install a terminal emulator from market if not already installed) Copy bcm4329.ko to sdcard root beforehand. Filename has to be all lowercase. Enter these commands:
su
mount -o rw,remount /system
cp /sdcard/bcm4329.ko /system/lib/modules
you should get no response and wifi should work immediately.
you may want to make system readonly again with command
mount -o remount r /system
Delete old bcm4329.ko file if it exists at /sdcard/Android/root/system/lib/modules or it will come back on next reboot.
C) Use a third party app like Root Explorer, Droid Explorer, Root Manager, ES File Explorer and copy the bcm4239.ko file to /system/lib/modules which is mounted in read-write (RW) mode.
(DROID EXPLORER RUNS FROM WINDOWS XP/VISTA/7 and uses adb. No reboot required. Others run from within Android)
You can do A, B OR C. You don't need to do them all. Method A had only been tested in shubcraft v1.2b build.
As a fourth way you can use adb command that comes with android sdk. install usb drivers from within android sdk and connect your hd2 with usb debugging enabled. commands are same with terminal just put adb in front of it and run from folder adb is in.
If you copy an incorrect version of bcm4329.ko that is not matched to your zImage kernel wifi will say error and not work.
You can also WAIT for a new build that properly includes these files already to come out.
You can get bcm4329.ko file from http://oe.netripper.com/files/htcleo_autobuild/modules-htcleo-latest.tgz
Open the tgz file with winrar or similar program. The bcm4329.ko file is under lib\modules\2.32.xxxx\kernel\drivers\net\wireless\bcmxxx

GENERAL FAQ
*Some Roms are reported to work better with Android than other Roms. Duttys Roms seem to have the robot voice problem on calls. Miri's WM6.5 v17 Roms and NRGz Energy Roms seem to work best and have fewer problems.
* With some old radio rom versions it is impossible to boot Linux. Make sure you install a 2.08 + Radio. known working Radios are 2.10.50.08_2 and 2.12.50.02_2
* With the working Linux kernel any kind of Linux based userspace can be used on hd2. This includes google android and any other Linux distribution.
* This is a work in progress! Lots of stuff is still missing. Check http://htc-linux.org/wiki/index.php?title=Leo/Status for current state of affairs
* We know about most available sources of Linux kernel code for the snapdragon devices. It is not necessary to point to evo, bravo, nexus etc.
ANDROID TIPS AND HELP
No Sound in Android: Make sure you run clrad.exe BEFORE running the haret.exe file to boot Android. When you run it, it will not do anything but it does run.
Mobile Internet isnt working on TMOUS HD2: T-Mous users have to manually enter the APN for the mobile internet to work. Go into Network, Mobile Networks, APN. If the APN screen is blank press the Windows button and choose "Add APN" from the menu that pops up. Enter the following, Name: epc.tmobile.com, APN: epc.tmobile.com. Leave the rest blank. Then press with Windows button again and save. Your mobile internet will now work.
Setting up APN (Access Point Name) for Wireless Internet (other than TMOUS): Get your settings from *HERE* then on Android goto Settings, Wireless & Networks, Mobile Networks, Access Point Names. If bank press the Windows Button, New APN and enter your details.
For those having issues with WiFi turning on and off: Go to Settings>Wireless and Networks>Wi-Fi settings>Advanced(Windows key)>WiFi sleep policy> Select Never
Green Screen when booting into Android: Pull out and reinsert the battery, restart the phone and try again.
Phone gets stuck when loading Android (progresses very slow or stuck in the same postion for several minutes): Pull out and reinsert the battery. Delete all references to Android from your storage card including the cache folders and any folders Android created. Then copy the downloaded files back to the ROOT of your storage card or where you are supposed to place them (including the AndroidApps and media folders if you have them). Soft reset your device and run the clrad and haret files within 30 seconds of WinMo loading or use a program such as JMZ's Bootloader.
Sleep of Death (not coming out of sleep): Update your Linux kernel image and modules as instructed above, then restart your phone and restart Android. If you keep getting Sleep of Death with the newest Linux kernel image and Linux kernel modules files then reformat your storage card with FAT32 and start over again. Always make sure you run the latest Linux kernel image and modules.
How to install .apk files on Android: Copy the .apk file to your storage card that you want to install. (see kernel guide for android file copying howto) Load Android and run 'Linda File Manager' from the programs list, then browse to 'SD Card' (complete action using Linda File Manager if asked) and then to the folder where you put the .apk file. Note: To see more information on the screen minimise the keyboard, then click 'view' and select 'details'. Once you have found your .apk file click on it then tick 'Use by default for this action' and select 'package installer'. Now just follow the onscreen instructions to install your program. OR you can copy the .apk files to the AndroidApps folder in the ROOT of your Storage Card and they should auto install when Android loads (most of the time).
Battery isn’t charging in Android: Install the latest Linux kernel image and Linux kernel modules as detailed above.
Excessive Power Consumption: Remember that all these builds are still in beta version and not complete. Alot of things are still being ironed out.
Programs and system functions not working (such as Video camera, Bluetooth, Keyboard backlight on sleep, etc): Install the latest Linux kernel image and Linux kernel modules as detailed above.
No Ringtones or Notifications in setup (in DarkStone's Builds): Download the following file http://gamesquare.co.uk/media.zip (copy the link into your browsers address bar or it wont download). Extract the 'media' folder (make sure the folder has sub folders with the sounds inside those) to the root of your SD card. Now go to Settings, Sound and Display, Phone Ringtone or Notification Sound and they should be there.
What is a zImage? zImage is a Linux kernel binary image. It is the core of your operating system containing most of the drivers. The prepended z means that it is compressed with the gzip algorithm, making it smaller than the non compressed Image file.
Can I use more multiple zImage files at the same time? No. Your phone can only execute one Linux kernel at a time. HaRET.exe (the bootloader) reads the kernel filename from startup.txt - You can maintain multiple zImage files on your phone but chose only one via startup.txt
How do I change the background wallpaper? Hold your finger on the screen and select Wallapers from the popup list.
How do I change the settings? Press the Start Menu button on your phone (middle hardware button) to bring up the menu, then select the bottom middle button (settings or preferences depending on your Android build).
I cant update an app thats pre-installed (i.e. facebook or twitter): Download Root Explorer from the Market, then open it and browse to the 'system, app' folder. Delete the apk file of the app you want to update then try downloading and installing it again.
If you are trying out a TEST build of Android then you SHOULD have a basic level of intelligence (laughs quietly to self) so PLEASE use your brain and try to work things out for yourself before posting a question.

USEFUL ANDROID INFORMATION
1. The difference between Desire Builds and Froyo Builds (thanks to memin1857)
Desire build is ripped from an HTC Desire. It is Android version 2.1 (Eclair)
Froyo build is ripped from a Nexus One. It is Android version 2.2 (Froyo)
Froyo is a newer and much faster Android version. It is currently only available on Nexus one officially. Other newer phones will get it eventually.
HTC Sense is the user interface on top of Android. Desire builds have it already. It can be disabled for standard Android interface.
2. Importing WM Contacts into Android (thanks to brownman)
You need PIM Backup, a computer with internet access and a Gmail account.
1. Open PIM Backup on your Windows Mobile device. Select the Backup action and unselect everything but contacts, then hit Next.
2. At the "Select backup filename and folder" screen, unselect the "compress backup" and "binary backup" options, then hit Next.
3. Transfer the BACKUP.PIB file that you just made from your phone to your computer. Change the extension from .PIB to .RAR, then extract the file.
4. The extracted file should be BACKUP.CSC. Simply change the extension to .CSV and import the file to your gmail account. All your contacts can now be imported to your phone through gmail - just follow the instructions given in the phone's contact menu.
or activesync with google http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=138636
3. Putting a Shortcut button on HTC Sense, etc to start Linux (in order to boot Android, Ubuntu, etc)
1. Make sure you have your Android build copied to your Storage Card as instructed earlier in this FAQ
2. Install mskip's Android Loader from *HERE* and install to DEVICE Memory
3. Add a Shortcut Button to your Sense, Mobile Shell or other Today Screen Plugin
4. Click on the button to start Android loading
4. Adding languages to Android Operating SystemBU

Den nye HTC Evo kan jo nærmest ikke sammenlignes med HTC HD2. Andet batteri, HDMI udgang, større kamera, front kamera osv osv. Så nej.

Short version @English:
No. - The Evo has different hardware.
Alright, i booted the image... and the flashlight turned on for a sec, then everything turned black... thats it right?
i had to swap the default.txt to get haret to boot :/
This is only somewhat related, but nonetheless should make people less hesitant about trying android if and when we have a working ROM.
I talked to TMobile (US), and, while you cannot use an Android device on a Smartphone plan (which is what the HD2 uses), you can switch back and forth, more or less at will, between Android and Smartphone data plans. Knowing this will certainly come in handy when actually trying to connect to the internet.
Personally, I just purchased the HD2, and after using a G1 with Android for a year and a half, I feel like I am going to puke. Why is Winmo such a confusing mess? For some reason I thought it was a mature operating system, but it feels much less polished and stable than Android. Back to the store with it until linux is cracked!
should i sell my nexus one or the htc hd2? hopfully we see android on this thing and i might consider keeping the htc hd2....what u guys think? keep or sell? the hd2 screen makes my nexus one look silly...ha
ok a bit further on .. I managed to find a working (ahem) config for usbnet .. i have managed to ping my leo from my linux box and managed to get a telnet prompt .. The telnet does not fully let me in due to lack of job control i think but for now this is cool ..
Markinus is working on refining this work and making the config default so we can all benefit without the pain ..
for now if you want to see (well my brain dumps and some other output ...

Not as far as i have heard ..
i've a questino though @ devs. you said that the kernel is the difficult part... and after that we can easily get linux etc on it? even maemo ?.. since it's based on linux
just wanted to drop in and say hi. unfortunately there's no news yet regarding the freeze problem.
that video is just a joke. some VNC client as they say on the site. as you can see he has winmo screenlock ^^
once we have the kernel problem fixed of course you can run maemo on the hd2.
edit: btw, any datasheet news ?
It's kinda quiet in here since the recent news about WP7S.
Thanx for the update DCordes, can you put into perspective on where about you guys are then?
Is Linux booting?
If so, how is it running?
What hardware are you having problems with?
What hardware is working?
Do you have a projected ET for having Android on the HD2? Even if not finalised, but maybe first Boot?
Thanx
Keep up the good work guys (DCordes, Netripper, Markinus, CR2, Tidsk and the rest of the guys)
Seg
it's actually all in the first post. we have that problem with the kernel freezing and we don't know why yet. that's the big show stopper right now.
except for that the overall situation looks very good! sd card and even usb host is working already ^^
Hi from France,
No idea about the kernel freeze problem ... What should happen after SD card driver being loaded ?
About the multitouch datasheet, I've been searching for it for 2 days, I didn't find anything. I just asked Elan about the release date of this. Waiting for reply ...
Thanks for your work

for me it crashes after init is executed (initrd or extracted to mmc, no difference) or when rootdelay is added in cmdline.

thanks I'm very curiious if somebody will get a reply when I tried the same thing for an aptina camera module they never answered.
with usb host working it's actually not so critical. we could use usb mouse or keyboard until we have a working leo ts driver.

I can't speak for the other devs but I personally never said such things.
Well, the guys that are really actively working on this are written in the first post.
Anyway, Tigerzen, Cass_VM and me, we're working on this with more relax, but we're only active testers and rarely we've helped in the kernel development (if we have).
There are many things working now, but what we really need is a datasheet for our Elan digitizer(/controller) for developing a driver for our touchscreen.
Hoping the best....

First to post, looking forward to this new rom, name sounds impressive....
I can beta test
Good luck
ljankok welcome to the LEO threads, i`m looking forward to testing your HD2 version of Cheetah.
Hi,
I want to try your ROM, but any info about the suitable radio to use?
Thanks...
@patensas
Good to see you here, thank you.
@silverwind
I have updated post 4 for info about the Radio version I use.
@spikerosoft
Cheetah is the name of my Topaz ROM. Thank you for the
offer to Beta test.
Cheetah Nostalgia 1.0 is based on the same kitchen structure
as the Cheetah 4.3S business edition for Topaz so the testing
scope was limited
@all
Enjoy this release!
thanks Bro
Downloading it now and revert to you soon...
BTW, any plan to post screen shots? I see that this ROM is Com2 (Winmo 6.5), right?
Any plan to cook for 6.5.5 version?
Thanks and cheers....
Thank you for the COM2 ROM... I see most chefs going to COM5/COM3 ROM nowdays.
I love COM2 ROMs. Will let you know my experiences after flashing my HD2
Mirror link pls.
@silverwind
Good idea, I will include some screenshots.
Yes, the ROM is 21901 (COM2)
No plans to cook a 6.5.5 version
@leocan
Why do you want a mirror? I thought that mediafire is fine for everyone..
Please tell your experience.
And second, would http://www.4shared.com/ work for you?
Screenshots
Here`s some screenshots, remember Shake and Save was installed after flashing Cheetah and isn't part of the rom.
@ljankok
I will play with it for a few hours and report to you
Edit:
I must say Cheetah rocks as it comes to speed! Well done.
Things i found:
1: i`m guessing your using the latest Settings Improvement package since the serial number isn't shown right.
2: in "About Phone" the Phone name says "HTC_Diamond2"
3: no browser snapshots in Internet tab ( my guess this is because you use opera 9.7 v36000 )
4: in Mail Setup wizard you can't enter domain ( field is grayed out )
5: Bluetooth toggle doesn't work in Comm Manager
6: Bluetooth icon missing in taskbar
7: WiFi wizard gets stuck after disconnecting WiFi
ljankok please remember i`m reporting these issues so you know they exist.
In now way what so ever this isn't meant as "helping you out"
Now i`m back to my Dutch [email protected] rom. Will try any updates you`ll be releasing

1: Well great to know you can live with the false serial, i can't
2: Nostalgia okay but showing wrong device info?
3: This is one thing people will want to see working and i would like to see you get this working with a registry setting. Want to share this?
4: Previous Email Setup Wizard packages did allow this option, didn't try to get passed this without entering a valid email adress. Did you?
5: Yeah this is one to fix
6: also would be handy if bluetooth icon would show in taskbar
7: Don't know what caused the WiFi wizard to get stuck but it was a painfull moment
Edit: reflashed Cheetah but mail manual setup doesn't work without entering a valid email adress, it will however work when you enter a valid adress then go to manual setup, remove all entries in username.

Well i tried all the Opera 9.7 36*** packages in my Dutch rom and couldn't get them to show thumbnails at all. All the 95*** packages work. That's why this was one of the first things i looked at after flashing Cheetah
Also since Cheetah once again is a slim and speedy rom i've tried instaling andriod dual boot cab and tried booting Android, this was without any luck. Don't know why though.

Trying to run Ubuntu v0.3 gives me a problem.
I runt the haret file, the "shutting down hardware
Turning off MMU" etc text shows up, but at the point when the ubuntu should be booting, the text (shutting down hardware
Turning off MMU, jumping to kernel...) just fades out, screen goes blank and nothing happens.
I am currently using a 4gig SD card, could this be the problem, do i need more space?
I didnt find any other posts with this problem described so answers are greatly appreciated.

WM65 (English/German) OS Builder Kitchen + ROMs for Typhoon based on Aleut's WM65 ROM

Final update: (diff from 20120408):
cleaned up some resource files (saving quite some space)
added icons to those which had none
made provxml tracing the same for all
added some small games (these eat the saved space from above)
added an option panel to setup the volume of VoiceTag (from my other kitchen)
made D3Demo an extra package
added the very latest NetCF 3.5 as modules in an own package
added a few more color schemes and backgrounds
patched the keyboard driver to not require a dedicated subdirectory "Keys" in \windows
patched the nk.exe to identify itself as "TYPH100" to allow better skin selection for remote access tools
renamed mtty to the correct name (was mmty.exe)
fixed the welcome.exe for the German Mui to correctly delete the welcome.lnk from autostart at first boot.
removed the _cabs folder form the kitchen. Get it from an older kitchen
Updated 2012 04 08: A new update to the kitchen folder. The older OS Builder stuff is moved to a dedicated subfolder. Now SDHC cards are supported and a later version of USBFN is bundled only with WM5torage (not recommended on Typhoon).
Updated: 2012 01 15: The old batch kitchen is moved to a dedicated folder in the Mediafire share. You find now a much improved OS Builder (see post 3) Kitchen as well as a set of ready-to-use builds to download. I have also updated the list of included programs below.
Here it is finally - another port of the batch kitchen I had once taken from Nitrogen for the Tornado and ported to Hurricane already - the simple kitchen for the Typhoon/Feeler/Amadeus.
The default settings were cooked to a ROM already, so you may want to try that first before you cook yourself (which is very easy, even for noobs).
It is completely localized for German keeping the English from Aleut's original WM65 ROM. He already had published a kitchen for that device here at XDA, however only as a side-note in an existing thread asking for WM65.
I have updated some applications to the last available version, added some OEM packages from the Tornado kitchen and merged some from the Ginza MS100 kitchen - also a device with QQVGA and a WM65 kitchen.
As this device has a limited ROM size of 27MB (x'1b00000), the tweaking of size and available applications was a major activity. All changes done to the original files are left in a separate folder in the kitchen.
The default settings for cooking are containing the following applications:
20MB base package (all options off in OSBuilder), leaving 7MB of additional ingredients to push in, my choice for you:
.NET CF 3.5 already on-board
T9 English and German
WM6.5 Menus (skinned) (selectable in the kitchen, not in builds anymore)
full Media Support:
Arcsoft MMS 3.5.2.15C
HTC Camera (as it always was)
Media Codecs (common filetypes, also midi works as ringtones)
Cyberon Voice Dial
WM-player supports the additional keys for the Amadeus (SDA Music)
More Entertainment:
Kevtris 2.0, a great Tetris clone with nice additional options (sliders, weird blocks etc.) - keeps your joystick busy. (*)
several Bluetooth profiles (updated from S740 aka Rose):
Bluetooth SAP (Sim Access Profile)
Bluetooth FTP Client (HTC BT Explorer)
Bluetooth A2DP included (with settings) but it only works on lowest quality due to HW limitations (removed now)
GPS Intermediate drivers (from WM5&6) including setup program. This allows to share one BT GPS receiver for several applications at the same time.
HTC Comm Manager. This allows to set the Radio really OFF if you have no or no valid SIM Card. After 3 minutes the radio gets back on otherwise even if shut off with MS-wrlsmgr. Once after 3 minutes off-time it stays off even after reboot. [Edit 20120324:] It is not necessary to have HTC CommManager do this - the normal MSWrlsmgr can do the same, provided that you do not leave it with "done" but keep it running for these 3 minutes in background.
Many other tools:
Total Commander 2.5ß3 (*)
WM5torage 1.9 [Edit 20120324:] The usbfn.dll which can handle the WM5torage driver is creating problems with parallel Music Playback and any USB connection (also AS via RNDIS or Serial) It seems that some I/O ports are used the same. You better avoid using that when cooking.

The pagepool used is now 4MB to give a suitable performance (was only 2MB in previous setup - very slow). However you can adjust this with tools included in the kitchen if you want to change it. ROM size and Storage is fixed on the device, so you have 27.97 MB total storage and free are 24.64. Mind that packages you save from the ROM are not giving you gain in storage space, so keep the ROM filled to the 27MB with what you consider useful.
RAM is tight here anyway, best gain is if you don't use the sliding homescreen and disable the Camera Driver.
I have also added some options regarding key definition to the Tweaks settings. This allows to select the keyboard driver for Typhoon/Feeler/Amadeus and also to activate the additional WMP plugin for the Amadeus.
So finally here is the share to get all: http://www.mediafire.com/?3tt15dyp4mbuu
Please hover the mouse over the download links to see their description.
Finally you may want to look at the Beginners Guide for Cooking which you find linked in my signature - this give some insight of what is happening.
Some more info on available memory (RAM) which is really tight on this device. You can roughly save RAM in the following order:
> 2MB: Don't use the sliding panels homescreen. Unfortunately this is the nicest visible sign of WM6.1/6.5 - but if you just use the "Windows Standard" Homescreen there is more than 2MB gain in RAM!
> 1MB: De-activate the Camera driver, all SDA Business users (without camera anyway) should do that!
~ 500kB: De-activate the Date/Time save driver. If you don't mind setting the date/time by hand after battery removal or have the device connected to the PC anyway with AS.
I have not noticed a gain when de-activating the Carkit driver.
For clean conditions when testing, please always reboot the device after changing settings. I noticed that even unchanged settings will not produce identical values after reboot. Tests were done with clean reboot, full initialisation of the Homescreen and then starting Oxios Hibernate.
Nobody seems to care about this old stuff anymore :-(
Mediafire has logged 19 downloads of the built ROM and 15 of the kitchen, but not a single "thanks" in the thread - if you use it, just say thanks for my motivation, please.
Anyway I have migrated the kitchen to OSBuilder which has more tweaking options regarding Kernel parameters and also gives more other control over the build.
Is anyone interested in getting the relevant OS Builder package?
You need to install OSBuilder first and can then start cooking right away after you have the package that I could publish.
In the process of dealing with the very limited amount of RAM especially for the Typhoon I had to reverse on 2 things I did in the past for the sake of squeezing ROM and RAM space. Both have adverse effects to what is initially intended. I had published and discussed this in detail in this thread. So you must avoid the following:
Cutting down the Paging Pool to the bear minimum (so the device still boots). This gets you free RAM, true - but it will cut you off the space in RAM where the code of the programs goes! So a small paging pool will actually prevent that you can run many programs, despite of the free RAM. So it is advisable NOT to cut the paging pool below 4 MB in my experience.
Using UPX to squeeze ROM space. While it works to get more data stuffed to the ROM, the resulting executable will no more be able to utilize the paging pool for its execution. The whole code goes to the free RAM and not just the currently used part in the paging pool. So by saving ROM space (or filesystem space in general) with UPX you are wasting actually RAM a lot!
Because of 2.) above I have reverted to all original packages - so no UPX anywhere in the ROM build or any related package. I had to remove a few things from the default package selection, but nothing that cannot be installed later anyway. Due to non working A2DP I have also removed that again completely.

Kitchen Updated to OS Builder, new example builds included
To those who want to get the fastest and most advanced kitchen and builds available for Typhoon. You can pick from Mediafire:
a 7Z with 4 builds to flash the device with, 2 sorts with either English or German as default language (you can change in the regional settings anyway).
a 7Z with the OS Builder Kitchen setup. Install OS Builder first (See post 3 pointing to the OSB thread), unpack the kitchen to any folder convenient, then double-click on the .osb file to fire up the kitchen.
Cooking is pretty much self-explanatory - in the end you get a OS.BIN file that can be uploaded to the device via MTTY.exe. All tools are included in the kitchen 7Z and can either be used directly from the folder or via the Tools Menu in OSB.
I have added two folders to the kitchen. One for most of the packages in their original distribution files; so if these are not in your build, just in stall them manually. The other to trace the provxml execution - which is something you may never need to do.
For the packages to select, the OSB allows to group packages to switch-groups. One of the important switch groups is the one for .NetCF. This package is the most storage hungry and so there are several ways how to deal with this in the context of the 27MB limit of the ROM:
Include the whole package to ROM: this puts all to the imgfs which is compressed with LZX - and so the total cost is ~2.9MB
Exclude the whole package and gain ROM space for any other stuff to include. You should then also exclude all .NetCF dependant tools or install .NetCF later from a CAB to get them working again. As there is one basic program (the calculator) which depends on .NetCF I have replaced this with the old WM2k3 calc.exe in case you select this package - saving another 120k. So in total you gain 3 MB in the ROM. Mind however that a later installation will eat ~1.2 MB on the FATFS in the device (Program Storage) and another 5 MB on either SD card or again on FATFS - depending on what you choose to install it to.
Include only the files that go to the device mandatory anyway, but not on FATFS when installed later but on the IMGFS, hence compressed and eating only 750k in ROM. The rest of files (the 5MB *.GAC) go then to either FATFS on the device or to the SD card. You can select this in the kitchen when building the ROM. Later you must copy these *.gac files manually to the right place. The package with these files is in the _packages folder of the kitchen.
I have done the final works on that kitchen and will not further do anything to it. You find the updated kitchen in the mediafire share of the first post. Download the file "Typhoon-OSB-kitchen-20120306.7z" there. Recent fixes are:
MMS dialogs use a smaller resource file for 176x220
Kernelflags are set to ...02 now to keep the MMS dialogs readable when you change the folders
CallerLoc is replaced by a dedicated tool (with understandable dialogs) CallVibrate
Sliding Panel background is fixed (was offset on the top-bar)
Some more tools added and instructions how to get back to WM2003 if needed
Mind that the created builds fit for any Typhoon/Feeler/Amadeus as you can switch/reboot the keyboard drivers.
Have fun and give some feedback if you created your own builds.
Candy-bar forever
SDHC on Typhoon (and Hurricane)
Hard to believe - but it is there: SDHC support on the Typhoon
No magic actually but just good luck that the Tornado driver (which is actually one form the StartTrk) for SDHC works as well on the Typhoon and Hurricane (which share the same drivers in their original builds).
You need to re-cook to get this. Related modules are attached, including the advice what to do (just 3 modules and related .rgu entries).
To get SDHC support in a cooked new build for Typhoon and Hurricane, do the following:
1.) remove the 3 modules in the ..-original folder from your OEMDRIVERS folder
2.) remove the entries from the contained original.rgu from the one in your OEMDRIVERS folder
3.) copy the 3 modules from the ..-sdhc folder to your OEMDRIVERS folder
4.) copy the entries from the contained sdhc.rgu to the one in your OEMDRIVERS folder
re-cook and enjoy

I have not done much testing yet, but some obvious checks have worked well.
So if there is anyone out there still owning these oldtimers: time to get them off the drawer and put some fresh fuel in - Typhoon and Hurricane make perfect music players.
Latest updated (the real final one).
Uploaded a new complete Kitchen including SDHC support and new USBFN bundled with WM5torage only (see first post). I do not recommend to use WM5torge with Typhoon - it is too slow anyway, you better get the card out and fill it external from the device with an USB reader.
now the real final one
20121003 Update (since no new posts allowed anymore):
Just to let you know: The SDHC lets the device also read FAT32 formatted SDXC cards (e.g.64 GB). It even reads more than one partition (I have 2 on my Android) and mounts both of them (32k Cluster size used).
Not sure how well the performance will be when managing data there - but reading a large music collection should be ok
So after I sold all my Typhoon devices (except a few you just cannot sell due to their physical state) - the latest small update to the kitchen.
What I have changed (diff from 20120408):
cleaned up some resource files (saving quite some space)
added icons to those which had none
made provxml tracing the same for all
added some small games (these eat the saved space from above)
added an option panel to setup the volume of VoiceTag (from my other kitchen)
made D3Demo an extra package
added the very latest NetCF 3.5 as modules in an own package
added a few more color schemes and backgrounds
patched the keyboard driver to not require a dedicated subdirectory "Keys" in \windows
patched the nk.exe to identify itself as "TYPH100" to allow better skin selection for remote access tools
renamed mtty to the correct name (was mmty.exe)
fixed the welcome.exe for the German Mui to correctly delete the welcome.lnk from autostart at first boot.
removed the _cabs folder form the kitchen. Get it from an older kitchen
Hi all, just got my O2ZPhone II (Feeler) out of the pile of goodies, would like to use it for my second phone.
The OS on it is still wm2003, trying to go for this WM65 ROM, I found that the SPL is on 1.01.0139 on this phone, which I try to go for the 109 with no luck, and mtty report error in bootloader too...
Anyone any idea on how should I get this WM65 ROM flashed to this great phone?
Thanks.
If the phone is still original, then you have to go all steps which you find in either the kitchen-tools menu or the tools folder directly:
application unlock old OS (SDA Application unlock)
apply Super CID to the phone (lokiwiz.bat, "C")
load new SPL to the phone
create new ROM (get OS Builder from the referenced thread)
upload with mtty.exe
Steps 1-3 need to be done only once per device.
I would not use the old os.bin I had uploaded as the latest kitchen can produce better ones and you have the choice what to put in or out. The default settings deliver a running build (you may want to remove the "German default" though).
thanks tobbbie, for some reason I downloaded the wm61 one, and yes with your great instructions I was able to flash that to the device and now happy using it!
(Will try the kitchen during the weekend)
Great thanks!
