Microsoft Recite - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Themes and Apps

I've been all over the webulator - has anyone yet worked out how to get Recite to save its voice files to the external memory? It's a cool little app but good as useless when it insists on using up the internal memory!

Same problem for me. i want to use it more but internal storage isn't enough!!

In this EXE I changed the hardcoded storage path to point to "\Storage Card\Application Data\Microsoft\Recite".
Overwrite the original EXE (Version 0.5.7.0) with this one.

Can we create the ultimate ROM???

We have the technology we can rebuilt it.
It occured to me that we should be able to build the ultimte "base" rom to use in the kitchen.
I would propose that it be based on the TMO 4.01.16 but make the installation of all the additional apps such as TMO toolbar, myemail, pdf and ppt viewers optional. I would also propose that sample windows media files and be removed.
Such a rom would give us the maximum space into which to add the appilications we chose but still allow us the flexibility to add some of the apps and settings that service providers supply. (much as the old Devlopers ROM did)
Just a thought
maudc
PS 3 cheers for Lumpistefan and Makis!!! :!: :!: :!:
That is a good idea. I think we can do it with mkrom.zip. We will need a linux op. but I think it will do the job under windows with cygwin.
I started to see the txt files, ini files etc, but I am at the beginning.
I want to make a good rom, like you. With no helps, no unneccesarry files, custom files (my ringtones for example) in the rom.
I only need time.
how
can you actually remove files from ROM ?
I couldn`t do it.
It will be great indeed.

We want to build a ROM without some files. Not to remove files from a working ROM in the devices flash memory.
There is a file in the mkrom/cfg folder:
initobj.txt
It contains a filelist. I think there is a place to delete the files. But I have not tried. I have not time now.

I think this is the big problem.....
Until now it´s not possible to remove Files from the rom....
What should be able is overwriting files from the ROm. But i think this doesn´t make much sense....

You're wrong.the initobj.txt file just conatins a list where to copy some files out of the rom. All Files are located in \Windows. The initobj.txt files contains the list, which file should be moved to wihich directory.
90% of this are the files in "Start Menu" and Help ....
So i see now chance to delete files out of the rom....

Stefan I can get from you this file is like the Config.txt in the Extended_Rom in Himalaya. I can understand now how you could remove the Msn messenger shortcut into \WINDOWS\START MENU\PROGRAMS\INTERNET\CHAT & IM ????

Backlight.exe & Power.exe.. Please?

Hi all,
Havn't posted for a while but I am still here! My exec seems to be running pretty fast now, using ozVGA
Anyways, just installed 2 patched *.exe files into windows directory (Backlight.exe.0409.mui.exe and Power.exe.0409.mui.exe) but me being stupid, I forgot to make a back up of the ORIGINAL backlight.exe and power.exe (located in the Windows DIR on the phone)...
So could somebody PLEASE upload me them two files, as I really need to restore them because using ozvga is hurting my eyes at the moment!
Thank you!
Not sure if this is what you want, since they are ROM files.
They originally had Read-Only, Hidden & System attributes set, but don't know if those will survive being compressed with WinZIP.
HTH
Exactly what i needed.. but I have no such luck of getting them onto the exec! i remove the attributes and it still doesn't let me copy!! DOH! any ideas? and thank you for such a quick reply

Sorry, wait a minute... That's better just got my spare (hopefully working) brain cell out of cold storage.
Both files are shown as "ROM" files if I look at their properties in the \Windows\ folder using Resco Explorer, so, errr..... won't they already be there if you delete whatever you've currently replaced them with?
Unfortunately, neither ActiveSync Explore, nor the PDA's File Explorer appear to allow you to overwrite an existing system file on the PDA. Resco's Explorer does allow this, although you get a message saying that the world will probably end if you do. I just tried copying another program into Windows as Backlight.exe. Then deleted my program, and the original was available again. But as mentioned, not posible with File Explorer, nor ActiveSync Explore.
Ok, simply by deleting the two files restored the default versions and fixed my problem.
Thanks for your advice, astage.

adding voices to tomtom 5

Hi,
After many hours of trying to get tomtom to work on my mini s I finally did it. Only one problem now is hopw do i get the voice files to work? I have transfered the voice cabs that i want over to the device and storage card and ran from there. Installed perfectly but still no voices within tomtom? What am i doing wrong?
cheers
Well, in the directory u find tomtom directory, make a new sub-dir with the name tomtom and put the voice files there.
so i put the new "tomtom" folder in mydocuments/tomtom?
eg.
my documents/tomtom/tomtom
then do i install from here?
cheers
Hi!
@ferritt: I'm really wondering why your TomTom Setup is so complicated (compared to mine)... Most of us just copied the correct voice.cab (UK Janes file is called engf.cab) to the device and started it (NOT installing to the Storage Card).
It creates a folder under /My Documents -> tomtom with the following files in it -> CurrentMap.dat, data02.chk (that should read data05.chk for english Jane) and data02.vif (data05.vif).
Final view:
/My Documents/tomtom/
CurrentMap.dat
data05.chk
data05.vif
Hope this helps.
Greetings
plant
see what i have mate is the voice files (cab) from my tomtom 5 cd. But also i have the .chk files aswell on another tomtom cd which is the only one i could get working. so should i just put them into the .chk files ionto the tomtom folder?
cheers

It is perfectly possible to install everything to the Storage Card. There's a complete walkthrough here (for the Universal, but the Wizard is very similar)
Edit: added direct download here

Newbie :how to modify cab

Hello,
I was wondering if there was any way to modify an existing CAB so that at beginning of installation it prompt you for destination (internal or storage card)
I have installed many cabs with this choice at the beginning but some others don't have it and it is important to me to save space...
Is it something to add in XML file?
Thanks

I think using WinCE Cab manager you can alter this.
How?
I have downloaded WINCE CAB Manager but don't know where to set this up?
Could anyone advise? or any other solution?
This is quite useful for all of us Ii suppose as it can save space on our internal memory (and we all know we dont have much

Once you have installed WinCE cab manager (on a PC), open the cab file with it.
For each of the files within the cab, you'll need to change the install location. Right click on each file, and select the relevant option.
Make sure that you keep the relative path the same! (perhaps just add "\Storage Card" to the front of each path.

[SOLVED] A little HELP......

I'm developting an app....
Because I don't run an English rom on my ppc, I need to know how in ENGLISH are called these paths:
1) the folder you see in "Start->programs" (maybe /windows/start menu/programs ??)
2) /program files (the folder where all the programs are installed on device memory... is it correct?)
Thanks in advance...
First is correct.
So is second.

No probs.
Thanks to both....
Depending on the language you use I would suggest to retrieve the special folder locations/path names with the help of windows.
For C/C++ there is a function called SHGetSpecialFolderPath.
Take a look here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa453707.aspx
