i cant find the specifications but will this software work on my phone. I been trying to find one of the softwares that change your phone into a router that actually works with the last version of wm5
hello??? still need answer for this one
Yes. I have it on my 6700. Works well. Just watch using it with bluetooth or WiFi. The battery heats up, and it will shut down after 30 minutes or so. You can even transfer files between computers that are connected through WMWifiRouter.
ok, i just updated my phone to 6.1 and when i run this software i cant find my phone with the itouch or my laptop.... Is there something missing?
6.1 works with itouch 2g
I have WM 6.1 on my apache and use wmwifirouter almost every day. It works OK mostly, though occasionally I think it's working but the itouch doesn't see it. A reboot usually takes care of it. A previous poster warned about overheating; I can testifiy to this fact, I used to leave it on the charger, running wmwifirouter, it would overheat in about 30-45 minutes.
I must have dropped this phone onto the pavement over 50 times. It continues to function despite battle scars on every corner! The battery cover is held on with tape.

Hi all - when I first got my Shift I was able to connect to my home WiFi and see all the others around me too. Now, having liberated, un liberated, isntalled XP, uninstaleld XP, reset Vsita about 5 times my WiFi just will not see or connect to any networks.
The device manager shows everything and last night after some random tinkering in their it suddenly burst into life for about 40 seconds and then stopped.
Addtionally, network connections tend to freeze while WiFi is fudging around trying to work...cannot open any network windows etc. Also when in this state Vista cannot close down properly - stops at the last screen and stays there.
Is it at all possible in my playing I could have damaged the chip or any internal software on it (does it have a rom?)....drivers always install OK and as I say device mgr seems alright too.
Or am I just dumb when it comes to Vista networking? I've never liked it and maybe I'm doing something that is stopping the whole wifi thing from working?
My router is a Linksys one and works OK with o0ur other PC's...and I know it's more than just a potential router issue because normally the shift would see my neighbours network too - now, it's a blank.
Any ideas at all would be great - thanks in advance. FF
I'm using Resco Radio to stream live radio, and, while it works fine over hsdpa, I find it buffers every few mins over WLAN.
I have the WLAN set to "best performance", and am approx 75cm from the router - signal isn't an issue. I work in an IT call center so I have tested it with routers there and get the same issue - its the phone not the routers.
I notice that the WLAN symbol at the top of the screen seems to go to "connecting" when this happens, its as though it just drops out intermittently?
Has anyone else experienced similar or is my device possibly faulty?
Thanks!
I am using Wifi all day here in the states (as the phone only supports edge here).
I never had that problem. Wifi is super fast for me.
I did notice though that I think that after I installed NET3.5 Wifi became unstable.
So I removed .NET3.5 and it seems to be working fine and very stable now.
My Wifi setting are "balanced" and I have to admit that with this phone the Wifi power consumption is super low, comparing to other devices.
WiFi working fine here.
I'm using WiFi all day through work's WiFi and at home as well - both WLANs are perfectly stable and super fast here.
I have it set to "balance" for the performance. I'm also amazed how quickly it connects to the WiFi access point when its brought out of 'sleep' mode! MUCH quicker than my Touch Pro!!
FWIW, I have .NET 3.7 installed - no problems at all.
Ok, uninstalled .net...
That didn't help!
However I think I have figured it out, the stupid thing turns wifi off (even though it is in use) when the screen has been off a few seconds, I guess to save power, thereby interrupting my stream!
Now I just need to find a way to force it to stay on, battery be damned!
I like to listen to the radio when I'm going to sleep, so its plugged in to charge overnight anyway, and I turn off wifi when I go out....
have a look at this registry key
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\BCMSDDHD1\Parms]
there's
HTCKeepWifiOnWhenUnattended"=dword:0

set the phone to stay awake while plugged into usb, when it goes to sleep it kills the connection. not sure what setting it is but it shouldnt be to hard to find. i had this problem in wm and that fixed it
Well I already have the option to not turning off the device when hooked up to ac power.
i am not sure what else to change.
Any other help?
I still cant get this to stay connected.
I have a similar problem... I can connect and it works great as long as I keep using it... but if I leave it alone for a few minutes it drops the connection and I have to reboot the phone to get it to work. I have also checked to make sure the phone was not turning off after a set time of inactivity.
has anyone who has had this problem gotten this resolved?
anyone have a solution to this?
it still does it but if I just keep reconnecting, eventually it will stay connected for a little while then I have to try again.
I had this problem too, and I got charged back in September. This problem only came up on Win7. It had worked fine on Vista so i dunno, haven't tried since.
I used Nokia s60 series phones. and the best thing about them when they need internet connection first they the turn on wifi and makes updates then turn it of. if there is not wifi turn on the 3g connection. but at windows wifi stay on all the times and my battery cant stand more than 20 hours. if I dont turn wifi on my bill is rising :S
now here is the question

What do you mean by "turn on"? You realize it takes quite a while to "turn on" a WiFi connection because the antenna has to come on-line, find the correct SSID, and then connect to/associate with the WAP.
Same goes for 3G. The antenna has to come on-line, find the best tower, connect to/associate with it.

Why don't you...charge the phone while you sleep?
You do sleep more frequently than once every 20 hours, don't you?
I don't understand this laughable tendency for people to expect their phones to last more than one day on a charge, and then try for it, and then complain when it doesn't [last].
When you sleep, you are unconscious, you cannot possibly make use of your phone in that state. You lose nothing by plugging it into power overnight.
And then when you wake up, your battery is fully charged, and you're ready for another day.
Think with your head.
Ok so my Hero is rooted, running Fresh currently. I'm not sure if this is a ROM issue or a phone issue, but I do know it's not a computer issue as it happens on 3 computers in the house.
When I'm tethered, after an unspecified amount of time (anywhere from 30 seconds to hours) the connection 'locks up'. I'm not sure what is actually happening, but I stop getting any data on the computer (Or laptop or netbook) and the data indicator on the phone gets the up arrow (The left one) stuck "on" and the other arrow stuck "off". The only thing that fixes it is to reboot the phone or disable/re-enable mobile network, after which the cycle repeats itself.
It does this whether I am tethered via USB (I use PDAnet) or wifi tether (Wireles Tether for Root users).
It's driving me crazy, because our cable internet shorted out or something and the techs can't come repair the line until next week (This happened last week) so my Hero is my only internet access point.
Anyone know what's going on or how to fix it?
Edit: It seems to happen more when I'm downloading large files...hours of casual browsing of text-based sites don't trigger it as often, but YouTube or downloading podcasts for my classes seem to make it happen more often. This seems relevant, though I'm not sure how.

hey buddy.
i cant answer definitivly, but i have had the same issue with PDANET and EasyTether (not wireless, but i dont use it much) so i hope my crazy theory can help...
this is probably far fetchd, but i hope you can appreciate it all the same. as we know, tmobile stripped down all the tethering apps from the market (not really sure how pdanet or easytether or barnicles survived this) and it started a big war with consumers versus providers, even resulted in a petition app being distributed through the market.
my wild theory is this: even though we're paying for unlimited data, i have a feeling sprint still watches this and throws a cap on at some point. i have no doubt in my mind that they watch these forums and know EXACTLY what we do, and take every precaution to ensure we dont take advantage of it. i think at this point, this late in the game, their easily able to tell when we're surfing phones versus tethering and using "mass amounts of data" (when compared to surfing the phone) and therefor put a quick stopper on their leaky bottle.
any other suggestions? ive just never seen it answered before, and was forced to reach my own conclusion, but hey! maybe some people live off their phones internet and have never had any issues (but how much data have you REALLY used in one session?) so this might just be as crazy as it sounds.
hope i helped!
tether
I tether my phone at the office daily it powers my office network with a speed little under dsl. best way to decribe the speed im getting is that of Dual ISDN. Your problem is definitely a power draw problem, after installing the rom that i wanted and i started tethering, i noticed that my phone will freeze up and the 3g speed will slow down to a crawl, at the time i was powering 6 computers on my tether with internet. to overcome this problem i needed to use the AC adapter that came with the phone to power it and i used a cpu management program (i forgot the name lol) to keep the mhz at 528 when the phone goes into standby that way your phone can handle the packets that are coming in and handle the dispersement of those packets to the computers on the tether while it goes into standby.
after that i never had a problem, like the guy said above, sprint will cap that ass if they see any shanagins goings on. I usually get away with about 4 hours of continious net time before sprint kills my data and i gotta restart the phone or go into airplane mode and come out of it. The data involved amounted to about 2 gigs of data before they booted me.

The exact same thing happens on the Samsung Moment. The workaround we figured out was to use SetCPU to force the CPU down to 266 when tethering. It sounds strange but it worked!
Perhaps this will work on the Hero??
