It has been confirmed that the HTC hero will be coming to US, but the question now is, WHEN and How much? I am certinaly in for one, after they speedup the firmware. There are too many issues with the lag at the moment to warrant a purchase.
Who else is looking forward for this release??
Details Here:
http://android-simplicity.blogspot.com/2009/08/now-usa-can-get-hero-too.html
it should be on tmobile
It looks like it's coming to sprint and AT&T, T-mob has it in europe already, so them possibly too.
I'm holding back my purchase just to see if i can has 3g.

Speaking as someone who has one, and uses it daily, I refute that statement!
I really have no particular lag issues.

I agree with it. i think its even more stable than windows mobile but thats for me
I don't think at&t is gonna get this. They only say 850/1900 3g bands and Rogers is the same. I bet you rogers will get it first in north america which is ok by me because then at&t customers can get it with the reduced price for data as at&t will not detect it!
The new Firmware update fixes all the lag... I have modacos 1.4 running based on the leaked update and there is no lag at all and i have finally been able to have all 7 screens filled with widgets... everything now runs smooth...

FCC doesn't operate in canada, so the FCC clearance isnt for there. so if there using 850/1900 on the FCC its def at&t.
HTC Hero coming to Sprint - see here
IMHO, they may call it a Hero, but it's not a Hero!

Why not call it something else, since it isn't the same device!

The HTC Hero will cost $179.99 with a two-year contract and after $150 in rebates when it goes on sale Oct. 11. That's a slightly lower price than Sprint's other flagship smart phones, the Palm Pre and BlackBerry Tour 9630, which both cost $199 after rebates.

Don't know about you guys but I'm not diggin' the industrial design of this "Hero". Looks like a redesigned Magic than anything else. Wonder if it has the teflon coating of the original Hero?
When they get Wifi Tethering working on the Hero, I'll get one... I need something to play with until wm7 comes out.
That's no Hero! It's more like the Villain!
I need a Hero!
I saw the announcement of Sprint's Hero not 20 minutes ago and it made me sad and disappointed. I HOPE the Hero that was passed through the FCC with AT&T/Rogers bands comes soon and I hope it's the European version.

Well, hopefully Rogers gets the Euro version and we can buy an unlocked version.
I wouldn't mind that one bit.

Nahh. I dont think it will be going to ATT!
Its pretty much comfirmed by now that it will be coming to Sprint. Sucks for me but guess ill be moving.
im gonna go sell my HTC Hero which arrives tomorrow and just wait for the us Version.
Yes, 850 & 1900 3G bands were passed for the HERO on the FCC side. How much you wanna bet it goes to Rogers before AT&T. I think that's why it was passed thru the FCC which is fine by me as that model will work fine thru AT&T 3G bands here in the USA.

There was a link on HTC website support page which stated
"HTC HERO (Sprint)"
dont believe me try this:

i take the FCC approval as better news that its coming to ATT than HTC website showin HTC Hero (Sprint)...that does not show enough evidence that it will release on sprint...typo or or whatever can happen...we just have to wait and see...waiting for more news on the sony xperia x3 snap dragon thats a beast of a android phone.

There is far more evidence to support a Sprint release than an ATT release. The FCC approval could easily be for an unlocked 3G version of the device, and have nothing to do with ATT. Everyone just assumed it was for ATT. Live in denial all you want, but it's looking more and more likely that the Hero is coming to Sprint. A typo as specific as that is just way to unlikely.

Or maybe, just maybe, it's coming to both. One interesting note is that the FCC document is called NM8_HOT. NM8 is used to identify HTC as it relates to the FCC. I was wondering if HOT might actually be H(er)OT where T is also AT&T's stock symbol. I dunno...
I don't like Sprint but I welcome any Android devices on more carriers. The more widespread it is, the more end users and developers we'll get.
the model that passed the FCC could merely be a version for Canada or Latin America. one of the Omnia's passed the FCC with AT&T's 3G bands, but it turned out that it was bound for Latin America, which I guess uses the same bands as AT&T does. I'd love to get this phone, but idk if I'm willing to pay the full unlocked price from Clove, especially taking into account all the issues I've read and heard about the lagging and such. if it had a better processor, then I'd consider buying an unlocked one, but since it doesn't, I think I'll be waiting for a better Android phone. possibly the Sony Ericsson one

While I'm eagerly waiting for the HTC Hero to come to Canada, is there any specific reason why the FCC has to file and go over phone destined for Canada or Latin America?
Let's just get this thread started, so we don't have to go searching thru various threads and sites to find out any possible news regarding the HD2 coming to AT&T in the US. This is the basis of this new thread:

Where would this unit fit in their lineup with the Diamond2 on the lower end & the iPhone on the higher end? Don't get me wrong, I'd be very interested to see this phone come to AT&T, but I'm not sure how they'd manage it...

They better find a way to manage it- or they will end up losing a lot of customers that would like the iphone experience with the flexibility of Windows Mobile. I would suspect that could cost them millions of dollars in lost 2-year contracts if Sprint, Verizon, or T-Mobile releases the HD2. What good is it to remain loyal to the iphone while hundreds of loyal customers get fed up I leave. They were already the last one's to release the Touch Pro 2. It's time to take care of the WM users who want the the high-end phones, or they will go elsewhere to escape the iphone prison they are trapped in.
Where it fits in the lineup might be directly related to when their iphone exclusivity ends. I believe it's sometime next year, but I haven't seen a specific date. The other question would be what does the next gen iphone look like relative to the HD2. One thing going for the iphone is it's apparent ease of use, at the expense of flexibility, for the average consumer. It's brought a lot of people into the smartphone ranks and has certainly driven data revenue for ATT. It will be interesting to see what direction Apple takes with the iphone as more and more handsets come to market with similar features and better flexibility.
I use an iphone now, but can't wait to get my hands on an HD2 with ATT 3g, either through them or one brought in from Australia when it launches there.

Is good idea but the 3G band don't work in AT&T HSDPA network, just can connect using EDGE 12 not bad.

You are correct with the current version, but I was referring to if an ATT version is released. I think we can also expect to see a version in Australia if we go by the previous HD release. If that is the case it would have the 850Mhz band which is compatible with ATT.

+1 = Lets hope that is true. I would spend the extra money and purchse the unlocked one, which would allow us not to have to be held prisoners while other companies release this phone and att chooses not to because of their affinity with the iphone. My question is.....withe the specs of the bands for this particular phone, which carriers would it provide total support for all bands- both Edge and 3G. ATT? T-Mobile? Verizon? Sprint? Would HTC invest in releasing an unlocked HD2 to one of these carriers, but not eventually release a branded carrier-specific one in the near future? It seems like if they spent the time to create it, it would be released by the carrier it supports at a lower discounted price. Either way- just make one with full Att support, and I'll be picking one up the next day!

Sprint and Verizon are CDMA networks so the GSM versions of the phone from ATT / Tmobile would not be compatible.
I don't really care if AT&T actually carries the phone officially. I hope that it when it gets released it will just support the AT&T bands. I'm going unbranded if possible! Just want the 3G speed is all!

Ditto. If you think about it- an ipod Touch costs $450, then you by the HD2 to replace that, as well as serve as your phone. I won't have a problem convincing myself to buy the unbranded US 3G version, as long as it supports all AT&T bands.
If history is a predictor of future behavior, AT&T will be late to the game if it appears at all. Chances are likely that we will only see the 850 mhz 3g band on Telstra (AUS), as it did with the Touch HD with it's hiked up price tag nearing the $1k mark. I hope I'm wrong as I am praying it comes to AT&T as well.
If AT&T is the only carrier (which I doubt because T-Mobile is getting it from all indications) or GSM is only what this phone will do that will suck. I hope CDMA gets it because where I live AT&T and T-Mobile both don't cover our area.
I did send an email to HTC USA about the possibility of an unbranded/unlocked HD2 being produced for the US market and what carriers might be branding the phone for their networks. Not good news at this time but here was their response.
Hello XXXXX,
We thank you for the question about what carriers will have the HD2 in North America and if we are going to create an unlocked version of the HD2 that works on North American 3G networks. We will be more than happy to help you in this situation. Unfortunately we do not have any plans to launch an unlocked version of the HD2 in North America. If this stance changes it would be published as a news release on our American and Canadian websites. As for carriers picking up the device, it is up to them to get the device on their network and sell it. The carrier would be the place to ask in this situation as they usually brand the device as their own and sell it as their own. Anything on the internet that is not on a carriers website or our own can be considered rumor.

£130 on ebay, pretty decent as I didn't sell the SD Card with it.
I had intended to sell the 16gb SD Card, Phone (Boxed) and Motorola s9 wireless earphones.
The buyer wanted me to end the auction early and offered £130 for the phone only, guess I got lucky.
Same here, i got my Desire on Saturday and couldn't be happier with it!
Though i'm a sucker and gave my G1 to my dad, keep it in the family and all
Gonna sell my Hero though, i saw they still fetch around £180 on ebay...

They won't. The HD2 is already over 6 months old. Plus they wouldn't have anything that might compete with their iphone sales.

Yeah, the australian Telstra HD2 will work on the 850 band, which AT&T uses for most of there 3g. You'll have to check and make sure at&t's 3g is on the 850 band in your area. They use another band for 3g in some areas. The Telstra HD2 will cost you around $800 to get it imported, but it's unlocked already, so you can put your at&t sim card right in and use.

that doesnt mean anything.. the stock sgs ii has att bands and just becuase it is going through fcc approval doesnt mean it is att requesting the approval.. could just be samsung getting it approved as it does all its phones.

Well I for one happy about this.
I held out for waiting for the atrix, but in the end it just wasn't enough for me. I have a captivate and have enjoyed having it rooted and running froyo way before AT&T and sammy got off their ass.
i fully expect the s2 to have all the same bands that the galaxy s1 had, and the omnia hd also had, the same quadband coverage, dont expect anything to change here. because they are the most widely used bands, perfect for an international model.
Oh man, this is getting harder and harder.
Is going to be either SGS2 or iP5.
So difficult.
i still believe S2 will be compatible to all providers, like S1,,
make the base of fight with ip5,,
using tegra2 to ensure the quantity for sale ,, which makes sense.
This was known for a while now, that the Galaxy S 2 wwould work on ATT 3G bands. What is not known is whether ATT will pick up the phone or not.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
They would be fools not to pick it up.
Phones are just bait to get and keep subscribers. The phone should be a great device.
If this is a AT&T only phone, there is no justice in the world.
The international version works on AT&T.
Even if some US Carriers carry it, it will suck in comparison. Look at the Captivate/Vibrant compared to the i9000.
Yeah, that is true.
If AT&T does get they will probably request that sammy retard the phone some how. Like taking away some of the radios or no front facing camera.
I'm hoping they wont do that this time, but they probably will find some way to screw it up.
Agreed! I won't ever buy a AT&T retarded phone again, if there is an international one available I will pay extra for it. Like the Captivate vs i9000.

I completely understand if you guys didn't dig into FCC documents to read what they said, I don't blame you, but just to clarify, the device passed is an 850/1900 ONLY phone, meaning it can only be for AT&T or Canadian carriers.
Other versions will likely be released, but the version that passed FCC is not going to work on other US carriers.

We'll have to see if they strip out features again. FFC is a must, and I don't think they'll strip that out. I think they took that out last time because the network wasn't ready for video calling. They wanted HSPA+ prior to letting people use video calling. Other phones AT&T sells have an FFC now, so I don't think the SGS2 will be any different.
Other than that, what, FM radio and no HSUPA? AT&T SAYS they are going to start rolling out HSUPA, we'll see, if not I'm sure a radio swap with an international version will work again. And FM radio would be a nice addition, but I certainly won't make a decision on a phone over it. I can always use TuneIn and iheartradio if I really want to listen to my ****ty local stations. Oh, and a flash on the camera. That one actually may sway my decision to buy it if they don't include a flash. That was one of the stupidest things I've seen, but I found that I don't care about flash for pictures as much as I do for a flashlight. Most cell phone pictures taken with flash look like crap anyway.
I would go for an international version if they were at least somewhat reasonable in price, but I'm not paying $700-800+ USD for an international version.
Anyway, I hope they will hurry up. I have an upgrade that I'm itching to use!

Because I don't want to spend that much on a phone right now. I just bought an iPad 2 as my latest toy, so I have to limit myself. Depending on the cost on AT&T, I'm up for upgrade price plus $50 off. If it hits a $200 price point again I can probably get it for $150.
