Hi all,
I have a little problem with my PPC-6800. I am currently outside of my home area (Milwaukee) and am in Des Moines, IA for an extended period of time. When I have the phone in hybrid mode, it only uses 1X outside of the Milwaukee Metro area. I know EVDO is available in this area since I can get it when I switch to EVDO only mode in the phone settings. I am running 6.5 if that matters and radio 3.35.04 and ROM 3.08.666.1. I downloaded the latest PRL from the internet too.
Thanks
fixed!
I reloaded the PRL I downloaded from the internet and now have EVDO working right!

I just flashed to DCD 2.1.0 Rom last night to activate the GPS etc. I did both options on *228. My problem is that my phone wont connect to EVDO in areas where I normally always have EVDO (aka my house). I am on the alltel network and in my home area. I am also using 3.27.00 Radio. Any help would be much appreciated!!
Here is your answer need to put ESN HEX in HDR Password Section Looking at this thread will give you instructions for this.

Is there a location we can go to to see if Cricket supports evdo revA in our markets? I get the symbol for 1X with a download speed of 932 kbs today. I guess another question is is there something we have to do to get revA? I am using DCD 3.2.6 with the data cab installed
Thanks
I would look at their coverage map. I am in the Portland OR area and it says that we are on a 3G broadband network. Makes sense as that is what my Motorola phone says "3G". You can always chat with their help desk. Maybe they might know, (good luck).
After posting in the wrong thread...sorry mods, wasn't thinking...thought I'd try this here.
I recently purchased an un-sub N1 for T-Mobile in the Melbourne, FL area. It has been painful moving from AT&T because the speeds that I've been getting on HSPA SpeedTest.net have been 700kbps down and 300kbps up consistently. As to my issue now, I noticed that my phone never switches from UMTS(3g indicated in the notification area) to HSPA any more. It used to stay in UMTS until data was used and then switch to HSPA. All over the area over multiple towers this has happened.
My wife has a stock N1 so I'll check her phone and see if it uses HSPA at all although with the stock radio she stays on EDGE most of the time while my phone, in the same car is on 3g but that's another problem.
Also, I do have the phone set to WCDMA only.
Can anyone think of a reason on my end that this could happen?
Rick
I think t-mobile is doing something on their end. I lost WCDMA usage after 6pm last night until about 11 pm.
(I'm in south florida)
I was having a similar issue in Orlando a few days ago. I agree with JCopernicus and believe its on Tmobile's end because I'm in Phoenix right now and its working fine.
I've been leaving my connection type on GSM auto (PRL) and I'm still connected to 3G/H 90% of the time but I have noticed a significant battery improvement. Check it out when tmo gets their 3g working right in your area.
Are there benefits to GSM prl over WCDMA preferred or always besides the obvious scenario when 3g is unavailable?
I am in the north Houston Tx are and I have been seeing some really odd stuff. At home I am full bars 3g and get 600-700 down, then drive over to a mall by me and get the H up top and no internet at all, it simply will not work, but it is HSPDA(two weeks ago) now in the same area it shows 3g with 1400 down. My house is always 600-700 but the mall area is acting really strange.
I was running CM 5.0.6 on my N1 for several weeks along with the 4.04.00.03_2 Radio to try to solve some of the preference for EDGE that my TMO N1 had. The problem that I ran into was that I went from some HSPA to none in areas that I know are covered by HSPA. I would constantly use only UMTS! I just flashed Kang-O-Rama 0.8 which requires the FroYo radio and presto, either the base CM 5.0.8, Kang-O-Rama 0.8, or more likely the 4.06.00.12_7 Radio fixed my problem. In fact, I am now getting 2000-3000 kbps down and my phone seems to prefer 3g down to 1 bar where as before it would stick on EDGE until I forced it to WCDMA Only.
Just thought I'd post some good news about the new radio(possibly the radio that is).

Yeah, that's a bummer with the stock ROMs. Here's what I do to make sure that a relatively long data sesion is opened. Start a streaming app like Pandora or download a large email (i.e. with a 3meg picture) and then goto Settings -> About Phone -> Status and scroll down to Mobile network type. This should show either UMTS(if you are in 3g but no active data connection) or hopefully HSDPA if you ahve an active data connection.
There are other ways to tell, but this is what I do.

Edit. 10 chars
It wasn't really stock it was pauls version, now I'm running kangs .9 and no change
Actually I ran speed test and it did switch rio HSDPA but only 430kbps
I got it last night with the FRF85B, and my N1 seem to be staying in 3G more consistently today
After I went to FRF83 my reception went from only edge in my house to full bars of 3G. Reception has improved more than I could have hoped.

You guys want to tell us what city & carrier?
I have my TyphooN CyanogenMod 7 v2.5.1 installed on my HD2 running tytung_r6 kernel and radio 2.14 (as 2.12 and 2.15 I would have the issue).
The phone randomly drops complete connection to the cellular network and WiFi connectivity all together.
I have to go in and search for a selected network operator and click T-Mobile and then it registered that network and everything comes back up.
I can't seem to figure out what is the problem I've tried various kernels as well GL_Core v7 and RAFPIGNA 1.8 OC but still have the same issue. I also switched to TyTung_R6 because on the other two I'd randomly get the SOD.
Thanks to all who answer
If you live in a poor coverage area, it could be down to that. As you have given insuffient info its hard to say. What coverage on:
2g?
3G?
Location?
Network?
wifi could be down to the settings, web down to APN's.
I would do a clean install (format the sd card) only back up date not settings (advanced tab) and try again
i do not have that problem and i use 2.15
