Hello,
Does anybody know how to remove duplicate ringtones/notifications/alarms?
After I loaded a new ROM and performed a restore with 'MyBackup Pro', I have duplicate ringtones/notifications/alarms.
I looked inside of /system/media/audio/ and checked that there is only one file for each sound clip. I also checked my /sdcard/ and the sounds don't exist there. Is there an alternate place where these ringtones/notifications/alarms sounds are stored?
Thanks!
Try rebooting your phone if you haven't already. I had that happen, and a reboot fixed it.

If you've used lucid to move any of the audio, you could have a /system/sd/media/audio folder as well.
thanks for the help!
1. I rebooted my phone and it still shows up as duplicates
2. I checked the directory mentioned and it does not exist.
3. I used Ringdroid to find the duplicate ringtones and its there! however, is there a way to see where the duplicate files are located so I can batch remove them instead of searching them one by one to delete them?
I got the same problem when I flashed a new rom. I got it fixed by clearing the data of "Media Storage" (Menu->Setting->Applications->Manage applications->Media Storage->Clear data), then reboot.
Hope this helps.
By the way, this is my very first post. I must thank you all for making such a great community. I've learnt a lot from this place. Thank you!
Thanks, I was getting so annoyed by this problem when flashing new ROMs. Clearing data from Media Storage solved it for me.

No. Your downloaded ringtones are stored to the sdcard and not data.
but still when i clear data on media storage.. if i reboot again its showing up!! arrgh annoying .. not twice thrice!!
Ive got this problem too after flashing a rom kitchen custom rom.
What should I do? The clear media storage solution didnt helped here.
Thanks in advance!
Awesome! This solved my issue! Thanks!
Here is a quick primer on ringtones.
1. Music files need to be under 300k to not appear in your music lists.
2. The name that appears in the list is generated from the tag on the ogg/mp3 file. If the title tag is not present then the filename is used.
3. Creating the proper folder structure will cause the files to show up in the ringtones/notifications/alarms lists
Example: internal sd/media/audio/ringtones
Duplicate ringtones are most often caused by multiple files with the same Title in the ogg/mp3 tag.

I searched the registry, device and the sd card. I found they are in the 'windows' folder...
But I cannot delete them...
I am using the Energy rom... I do not think it does exist in the rom before... Acturally, it appears after I installed some software....
Does anyone have a way to delete them? Thanks...
im using resco explorer which allows me to delete such files, im not familiar with total commander but there may be something in the settings which will allow you to delete those files....
you could download the free trial of resco and try that way....
hope that helps....
Thanks mate... I have Resco as well...it shows me
Any suggestion? I am pretty sure the ENERGY team did not put these useless wav file with meaningless name under windows folder... It s my fault... I install some software...but I cannot remember which one...
yeah I was wrong I cant delete them either...
it must be to do with the rom though....
il look into this when I get home and let you know if I get to the bottom of it....
Hey
i had a similar issue when trying to free up some space on my old tytn2
the files were ringtones (.wma) but in theory this should work with most files
give this a go: copy the offending file to any other folder (my docs, sd card...)
uncheck 'read only' in file property
copy back to windows folder - overwrite when asked/ warned
then you should be able to delete from windows folder.
(backup 1st, just in case)
hope this helps

Cheers man but that didnt work for me Im afraid.......
I listened to the files and they seem to be sound files for some sort of gps / navigation program.... Ive never installed any such program and as resco says they're in the rom memory it must be something to do with the energy rom........
Cant think of any way to delete them, They dont realy occupy much space its just a pain that they appear in the notification sounds menu......

if im not mistaken even if you do delete them they will get restored when you soft reset.
anyways rename the files instead of deleting them, soft reset and then delete the renamed files however as i said i think you will just have a fresh copy.

DO NOT USE this method if you use Link2SD. It will destroy all your links.
Thanks to @qwertyass and @adamdavid72 to bringing it to my knowledge :good:
1. Install ROM Toolbox lite
2. Give it Root permission
3. Go into App Manager tab
4. Hit Menu and select "Multi-select"
5. Now select "Select All"
6. Click Menu and hit "Fix Permissions"
7. Exit the app once it has fixed all the Permissions
8. Reboot your device.
Error should have gone.

Ussd language error
Hi guys, when I flashed DN3 rom, I noticed when I send a USSD request, it comes up in chineese instead of English. Please any fix for this?
I use note 2 n7105
Currently running DN3 ROM.
TWRP Permissions fix did the trick for me. Glad I didn't wipe my data.
this didn't work with fix permission for me.
my mothers phone was really f*cked, tried restoring old backups, tried full wipe, of all kinds, "for new ROM" "factory reset" change recovery.
but allways and with new fresh ROM install after full wipe it would FC everything, the device was compleatly useless.
the only thing that worked for me was to format the data partition with TWRP
did not work on my i777. TWRP not available for this phone. No solution, yet
Systen UID inconsistent appeared on my phone a few weeks after flashing a new rom, I did fix permissions with rom toolbox because my CWM version doesn't have fix permissions. Now what happened is that this fix permission crap messed up with all the apps that I had on ext3, remounted, cleaned dalvik cache etc. nothing worked... Apps are showing as not installed, I had to clean the ext3 and start all over again installing apps.. pfff..
Inconsistent results
Weird....for me it sometimes does the trick. Other times, I need to use the fix permissions option in ROM Manager. Sometimes, neither does the trick.
It seems like timing is a thing. I have the most success with this when flashing a new ROM and logging in with my Google account, I can interrupt all of the Play Store downloads that are trying to restore, and all of the app updates that it is trying to do. From here I usually download Rom Toolbox and Rom Manager and try to fix permissions immediately.
But again, even these steps do not always work for me. Frustrating too, because now it is not working for me on a ROM that I really want to give a try. And with this error, I can not get Hangouts to work (constant FC.)
Hi,
I'm sorry if it is not working for you.
Maybe I'm a bit lucky that it worked for me all the times.
Tip: If your Recovery supports Fix Permissions try that first.
If you want me specifically to respond, then please mention me, like this @silentvisitor

Hey, thanks for this tip. This worked for me. I have an oppo find 7, was restoring apps using titanium backup to my device when the error started coming. I followed your suggestion, the log file (uiderrors.txt) showed instagram was the culprit. But the strange part was the instagram wasn't even installed! So I used SD Maid to find corpses on my sd and instagram showed up on corpses list. After that I just cleared the corpses and the device ran perfectly fine without any errors. Thank you so much!
Thanks, it worked for my OPO CM11s.
Inconsistent UID with Stock Rom
Hi, I'm on stock Android 4.4.2 (GT-N7100), and I've never rooted this phone.
I'm getting the "Inconsistent System UID" error, I've done a hard reset 2 times but now, after a few days, I'm still getting the error.
The first time the phone became unusable with the message that appeared every time I touch the phone to do something; now I see the error only at reboot.
My phone is affected by SDS (sudden death syndrome), I've sent it to my carrier assistance the past year without results.
Are these two problems correlated?
How can I solve UID error?
Thank you
Fabrizio
Note that I'm not referring to the write issues which I'm well aware of.
But it seems that the new kitkat file picker can't detect my SD card at all, even when 'show advanced devices' is enabled.
For example, in VLC and Adobe reader , the library no longer shows my SD card.
Same goes for Quickoffice : the file picker only let's me select from my internal storage.
Samsung apps as well as power amp and music apps seem to work fine though.
Does anyone else experience this too? It really blows as my 64gb card is now a paperweight...
I had the same problem, take a look at this page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2617921

Does that make the external SD card show in apps that use the File Picker as well? I'm currently unrooted and I don't wish to root unless I'm sure it'll be solved. I don't need the write access which the hack was supposed to enable.

My problem was that Calibre could not write to the ExtSdCard.. I was also not so keen to root, but I thought I give it a go:
I can't give a page, but search for: "root-i9505xxufnb8-android-442-kitkat" and it wend smoot. After that I change the xml and the problem with Calibre was solved. So conclusion: I don't know or that was the same problem, but now the Apps can write to the extsdcard again.

Hello all, first off, my apologies if this has already been discussed, I did a somewhat thorough search on this topic, but my efforts kept returning a separate issue, opposed to my specific situation.
Anyways, out of nowhere yesterday, my media player (Player Pro) stopped showing my 30+ gigs worth of music. I also noticed that my gallery was empty. Naturally, I assumed that my sd card took a dump, until I checked via ES Explorer, and all of my files were perfectly intact. I also noticed that the unrecognized files weren't exclusive to my sdcard, but also affected my internal sd as well.
I've tried rescanning my media store, battery pulls, unmounting my memory card, everything. I was hoping somebody had a solution that doesn't involve a factory reset, although it isn't the end of the world if I have to.
I'm rooted on 4.4.4. Here's a screenshot of my "about phone," in case it helps.
Thank you for the help,

Out of curiosity, do you have any idea how those folks are created in the first place? Several of them were pretty old, but, what I assume is the culprit, was created yesterday. Weird. Thank you again.
You are welcome. Do you have rom manager on your phone?
No. The closest I have is titanium backup. Is Rom manager known to create nomedia files?

I think I did, when I was setting up for root at the very beginning. I'm assuming that may be my problem..? :crying: What do you suggest?

That's definitely your problem. Flashing the userdata.img allocates 32GB of storage, regardless of the original capacity of the device. As you can see this is problematic for the 64GB and 128GB models. You need to back up everything from your internal storage to your PC, and make backups of your apps with Titanium Backup and transfer that too. Boot into the bootloader, connect your phone, and issue this fastboot command:
Code:
fastboot format userdata
This is going to wipe all user data from your phone; apps, settings, photos, music, everything will be gone. So when you boot up you'll have to set the phone up again, and transfer your photos, music, and Titanium app backup back to your phone. Unfortunately this is the only way to get the right storage capacity back again. Out of interest, where did you read that you need to flash the userdata.img?
PS. You might find my guide helpful in future.

Thank you SOOO much, Heisenberg! I actually was following your guide, but pretty sure I misread something there the first time, because my result was a softbrick at first. Sorry to take your time, and thank you for your kind (quick!) and clear response to my noob mistake. (Thanks also added)
It's people like you who make xda what it is. :highfive:

Can you share which folder TWRP was backing up to? I think this happened to me as well and I can't seem to find the folder...

Sorry I only saw this now. It was in /data somewhere. Not in data/media, but in data/TWRP I believe. Definitely check /data and it's subdirs.

Why would it be in data/media?? Data/TWRP makes perfect sense to me! All apps make folders in de data/appname path...

Everything is in /data/media. The usual directory for twrp backups is /data/media/twrp/whatever.

Nope, not true.
/Sdcard/twrp or
/storage/emulated/0/twrp
Tot should use ES file explorer for example, TWRP folder is just were all the other app folders are.
I know this an old thread but I"m having storage issues as well. I'm rooted and running Pure Nexus. My phone is an 64GB version and ES File says I'm using 89% of it. I downloaded all my pics and videos and music only accounts for 5GB.
@Heisenberg, in preperation to format user data, there a folder showing called estrongs and its 32GB!! If i simply copy all my folders over then restore them all, won't it just eat up all my storage again?
I've had rooted and rom'd phones since the HTC Incredible and I've never come close to hitting my storage limit. I did follow your guide to root the 6P and I skipped the decryption step because as the guide says, if you're using a version of TWRP newer than 2.8.7.1 you don't have to, so I didn't.
