XPERIA panels for RHODIUM (htcpedia) - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Themes and Apps

check out this thread i found on htcpedia.. thanks to Ark N )
http://htcpedia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=357

Installs @ ~20MB, just trying to figure out how to use the thing now!
It's quite pretty
UPDATE: So as there's no Panels button on the TP2, you need to go back into the start menu then the Panels app to change the panel.
And aside from 2 clock/calendar panels and the fishtank panel, there's not much else going on here.
Interesting to play with but not much else.

I mapped my long press send key to activate the panels. I agree. Not much there, but interesting at least to play with.

Can align screen shortcut be disabled?

I'm curious if its possible to disable the align screen shortcut on the Wizard (Enter Button in center plus Messages Button) Its really annoying when playing Doom or an emulator in landscape and having that popup all the time. Does anyone know a fix for this?
Unfortunately i dont have an answer for you. but i do have aquestion that i hope youcan answer. I got myself a doom launcher. It works well, but the control setup is terrible on the wizard. If i play in portrait mode, the fire button is the left soft key. So i ahve to fire with the same finger that i use to move. That makes the game unplayable. What launcher are you using and where did you get it?
I haven't done any testing or trying yet, but here is my idea...
what if you rename the align screen app, just so it stops it from launching?

Its called GF Doom (I'm sorry but I don't remember where I got it or whom made it. Although if the creator see's this I would love for him/her to PM me as I also have some questions.) Anyway the launcher shouldn't control the Key Mapping, usually thats done in some sort of config file. With the program that I have the keys are mapped in the skin file's txt document.
Try this, unzip all contents into your storage card and run the launcher you should get Doom, Doom II, and Plutonia (sometimes called Ultimate Doom) as well as a 3rd party mod called Evilution. Keep the default skin, with that the keys I have mapped are:
The directional Buttons for Movement, Messages button for Fire and strafe(I would like to change strafe to volume up/down or Internet but have not been able to if you can figure this out let me know), and the softkeys for Select and Start.
The screen defaults to protrait with your choosen skin. To play in full landscape start the game in the options change the resolution to "low" and it will switch, Hope this helps
I can't seem to get the attachment to work here is the link ftp://[email protected]/Uploads/
the file is pocket doom.zip
A Flock of Seagulls are in my Wizard
It would be awesome to find a way to disable this. Is there maybe an entry in the registry that corresponds to what key combination turns on the align screen program. Maybe it could be changed to some combination of keys that is very unlikely to be executed simultaneously.
Until then, I'll continue to drink foo-foo drinks to calm myself while trying to play any action games.
GF Doom
Dragonedge:
What version of GF Doom do you have? Maybe I have an old version. When I enter full screen mode, the soft keys are shoot and strafe, while the message/IE buttons are menu and escape. I have to use the same hand to shoot as I do to move.
Thanks for the tip about full screen, I would never have figured that out. Now I'm not dissapointed with the program anymore.
Lol, funny posts. Is this still a problem? Does it need investigating?

Not sure what version it is. Check out the ftp I uploaded a zip file with everything I use. Also you can edit the skin files to remap the softkeys as well as the messaging and internet keys. All the information about remapping the buttons is in the skins folder in a txt file names Skin Specs.

The only problem I had was being able to map the message and internet buttons as different keys. Also I would like to use the volume slider as a left and righ strafe but could not seem to get that mapped either. Any help there would be great.
I've made an app to disable this - VJCalibrula for Universal and Hermes.
Wizard requires a slightly different hack, and I don't have one to test on.

I wouldn't mind at all . I have the T-mobile MDA/Wizard with the 2.26 ROM
An app to disable this would be handy another idea that would be nice is an app that would let you specify another button combination for system shortcuts would be awesome.

I don't think it supports AKU 3.2 for now. Soon...

What I dont like about PointUI...

While I was fascinated about the idea of a new UI for WM, the introduction of PointUI was a bit of a damp squib. The story of PointUI is like the story of the emperors clothes: its far from perfect but nobody wants to speak out against the overwhelming hype. There are a few things about the interface that irritate me. Hope fully the updates will take care of this:
1. You cant close any programs from within the UI,only minimise. You get to see running programs after looking through many menus only to find that you have to exit/minimise the UI to really close the program.
2. No app shortcuts. The first screenshots of the UI gave the impression that you could access shortcuts via pages which could be accessed through a simple left or right sliding motion. The current setup puts it just below a properly configured HTC Home with 6 tabs. Whats the point of seeing two versions of the time and the calendar?
3. Screen locking is ridiculous. In this day and age of slide to unlock programs with dpad unlocking and additional information displayed,it seems the prog prioritised being different rather than being practical, especially with the apparent lack of a clock.
Then again, I could be wrong....
hmm
i think PointUI are just in its early stages, however i do agreen with some of your points. We just need to give the developers some time. they have started off with a great base.
they have a fix for the first problem you listed
check the pointui forums for it
its still in beta..so i'm still awaiting how the final product will be
im sure they'll be making some major improvements and additions to it

press title of the running program ... you get to the same screen as going through the running programs.
but with the rest i agree its very inefficent to start a program ... efficent handling has to be priored ... not just eyecandy. so i don't use it anymore...
if you are in a program tap where the start button used to be top left and you will get the option to force close.
I also find it better when changing the setting object navigation to slide navigation for getting to my apps.
however
One must admit that it does have an amazing UI. i feel is much better than the iphone UI
# 3 is also addressed by allowing 3rd party screen lock progs like S2U2. Their latest official build 1.01b enables this. I applaud their efforts. Not because its free. Not just cuz its new. But because it is pretty well thought out and performs more smoothly than any other shell app out there, esp w.r.t. animations and transitions.
I second that. I have good expectations for it.

If you like PointUI,then youll love SPB Shell. My main problem with this UI is that I can get better efficiency with HTC Home and a couple MortButtons shortcuts. I can access anything faster with that combination than with PointUI. Its not a revolution, its a fancy skin.
Does anyone else find the scrolling to be annoying? How it's inversed and extremely painful to scroll through large content?

Its supposed to be like that. Like you are grabbing the page and flicking it. Have you tried "flicking" its fun.
In fact, I don't like ftouchflo because it doesn't seem to allow me to flick like I want to.
Things I don't like about PointUI:
1) clocks, calendars all don't need to be on seperate screens. Would be nice to have a home screen that shows time/date/appoints/etc and the be able to flick over to application.
2) Not integrated (same problem I have with the cube). Along with the cube, its useful getting to stuff, but when you actually open the program it usually requires a stylus.
Thins I like about PointUI:
1) Smooth scrolling and animations. Honestly its amazing.

@ Vukile: Don't count me in the camp of people who need to have access to "everything in as few clicks as possible". I'd rather have a simple to understand, clean, uncluttered interface, even if it takes a few extra gestures/taps to do it. Very frequently used stuff should be quick, and less frequent, further away. While I understand how some want to have every function within one screen, I'd prefer otherwise. So, I actually like the promise of this more than SPB Shell...But to each his/her own.
@ Chunga168: I also intuitively prefer the iPhone/PocketCM type scrolling, however, the method they have implemented is actually better for long lists. If you have to "iPhone flick" to the bottom of a long list, it could take a while. Being able to have it scroll while holding is actually faster for some. It's a case of preferences IMO, so I hope (and expect) they will implement both and make it optional.
I dont know...ive been trying everything from spb products to all kind of invented cubes...but i guess i will stay longer with pointui because IMO its so interacitve and fast...but a hiccup here and there is normal...but the developer is going to take all of our [email protected] to improve...
Well I've really enjoyed Pointui. It's good that there are developers taking a good look at the Windows Mobile UI, although to be fair HTC themselves have been working on obvious improvements, and Lg might be worth keeping an eye on.
Pointui.Home is beautifully animated, looks good and feels good to use, the developer team seem pretty dedicated, and it has the potential to be an amazing phone interface.
However that is my niggle, see to me, my Artemis is not a phone with a PDA attached, but a PDA with a phone attached, and for all it's graphical loveliness Pointui.Home actually makes using my PDA more complicated. I enjoyed Spb Mobile Shell, it's NOW screens were great, and it's version of finger friendliness with big chunky thumbable buttons worked well. Funnily enough the reason I stopped using it was because it was bloated and buggy, and I wanted to give HTC Home a good run for it's money.
But to me Aesthetics are important, it's nice to use a good looking interface, and Pointui seems to be top for that, but I'm already tempted to remove it, and even tempted to forgive Spb's faults.
Fantastic and I cant wait for some updates, but I really don't like it forcing the left soft button into its own home button!!

I agree, it should at least give you the option of choosing what you put on the soft keys. It sits on the top bar anyway, why map it? Only seasoned users of PDAs will appreciate the need for simplicity before aesthetic, much in the same direction that Android is headed. Try this exercise for example : uninstall a program using the PointUI and then try it the old fashioned way. The old way is quicker.
does the calendar on the main screen suppose to highlight the days with appointments, etc.? If not, then the calendar is not very useful, and there should be an option to turn it off. Same thing with the analog clock.
A better app launcher is definitely needed. I have suggested in other posts having an icon based launcher a la iPhone when you press the botton down arrow button on the screen, or at least on the main scrolling screen, give us about 4 user definable icons for apps...or have BOTH.
PointUI has a pretty nice interface but is really not that time efficient.
Has anyone tried to remove this program?... Its a headache! I had to find various reg entries and delete them to fully remove it

Haptic/Vibrating Feedback

Got your HD yet? Loving the vibrating feedback from those virtual button along the bottom? Me to! The question is, how do we enable this feature for other touch screen inputs? It should at the very least be mapped to the two Windows Mobile soft keys right? There is clearly some API for this since Opera it also doing it when you click on a link.
Anyone got any ideas how we can get at it?
yeah i was expecting full screen haptic feedback when i saw the spec sheet few months ago. kinda disapointed to find now that it's only for the capacitive buttons along the bottom.
if samsung omnia can do it why can't the hd?
i'm sure someone in the community will sort something out!
Actually, I noticed that the page buttons on the Touchflow 3D bar also give feedback so that's pretty cool. They don't do it when you slide across the various pages, only when you click to select one so the diffence between the breif press and a press and hold event must be detected also.
I'm sure we will see so more work done with the haptic feedback. I seem to remember that it took just a few days for some ultra bright person (CharlyV was first I think) to revese engineered the API for the G-Sensor so I expect someone will feel like writing a little app to extend the feedback funtions pretty soon.
any news? I am also keen to get haptic feedback on everything.
i use this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=450256
really really love it!
start -> settings -> system -> touchresponse settings to customize to your needs......
kudo's for the maker!
Been posted elsewhere but http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=425063
Is great especially when typing. I've dialed the vibration down so it just tingles as you type.

HD2 Multitasking

I have searched around the net and watched almost all youtube videos about the HD2. I still need to know about how the phone handles multitasking... I am quite sure it does multitask though..
Android: Long press on the home-menu button to bring up latest apps. + Task manager apps to kill running apps.
Nokia/Maemo: Big element of core design. Screen with live feed windows. Each window can be shot down seperatly.
iPhone: No multitasking
HD2: ?? Anything like a task manager here??

When I saw it a week ago, the presenter pressed a small button on right side of the screen while in home display to bring up the list of applications running. So in a sense, quite similar to N900, except that it was a list, not thumbnails.
What I would be interested to know if there's a way to remap a hardware key to bring up the task manager. Personally I would think this would be more useful for me that the start-key.

There are a few other nice solutions:
WkTask shows the running apps as small icons on the taskbar - kinda like in Windows on the desktop computer. By tapping on the icons, you can easily switch between different runningapps with as outreturning to the homescreen in between. Its freeware, although donations are surely appreciated by the creator...
AEButtonsPlus can display a listf running apps following a hardware button press, so you can switch by tapping on a listed item.
dnt forget we can use the xperia panels now, that works as a nice visual task manager
Thanks, those solutions look quite interesting and probably will be what I'm looking for. I'll have to give them a try when I'll get the device.

I just found the Showcase myself too. It seems really brilliant application.. simple and finger friendly.
Just need to figure out how I can remap a hardware button (like start button) to start this instead. But as far as I understand, that shouldn't be big issue.
But I guess that should be what I was after with this: easily accessable task manager so I can switch applications quick.

If I've understood correct, it should be accessible through home-screen, just pressing the start from top-left corner? This should be enough for me if I have 9 shortcuts in home screen anyway. Probably don't need that fast access to rest of aplications.
Just a personal preference, but I'd like to be able to access task manager fast. Just so I can juggle between browser, ssh terminal (irssi) etc easily.Currently with my Nokia E71 I can access it by pressing home-button for a second and would prefer a dedicated button for this.

Also, X button enhancement does not work perfectly. On the capacitive screen I can't slide my finger to the left to activate different functions of Showcase. Only the one to the right can be used. It works fine when operating through a PC with Remote Controller, so I am sure this is due to the different screen technology.

Yeah, for some reason HD2 renders the X button enhancement useless. So, is there actually any way to access Showcase (or any similar task manager for that matter) by long pressing any of the hard keys? I really wish there was more convenient ways to switch between applications.
Kinda funny how Apple's ineptitude has people thinking, all over again, asif Multitasking is something special.
Any windows version since way back when does multitasking.
You know what the funny part is, the iPhone can actually multi task, but Apple won't allow it for some reason Steve Jobs' mind spewed out and only he can understand.

Android 2.1 Wish/Looking For List

Hello!
I've just moved to Android 2.1, coming from WinMo (HD2 Flashed WM6.5.x). I spent many long hours, tweaking just about everything in order to get the look I wanted. I was told by many, that I would have no problem doing all the same on the Evo and even much more. So I'm in love with my Evo experience so far and have no plans to go back to WinMo even though I was happy with it.
All weekend, I've searched high and low. Ran through nearly a hundred apps out of a list of 150 and growing. Yet here I am still trying to find a few types of apps and mods.
IS THERE:
1. An app like ListPro which is the best Windows Mobile general list keeping app ever made. I'm looking for an app to create general lists of all types, with custom fields and so on. And furthermore, having a desktop app that syncs with it, is also high on the list. Being able to enter data on a desktop and sync it all with great ease, to a matching mobile app, is something I would pay dearly for.
2. On the HTC Evo, the Sense home screen is okay but could really use a touch of xda Co0kies Home Tab. Looking, but can't find any such app. Recently, I downloaded nearly 200 analog clocks for the HD2 Sense home screen. Where are the Android custom analog clocks?
3. Is it possible to change the color of the top status bar of Android? And also how about the bottom bar? Can we not have wallpaper that extends the entire screen so that the bars match the wallpaper?
4. Can the slide to unlock bar be disabled? Pressing the power button is hard enough to not have to worry about the screen being on when not wanted.
5. How about an on-screen power/sleep icon/button? It would be nice to be able to put the phone to sleep without having to reach for that little power button.
6. What is up with the wallpaper??? At first I thought, well since I love my HTC HD2 wallpaper so much, why don't I just transfer it to my Evo. Sure thing but it ends up being cropped and stretched, no matter what I do. I've read page after page and tried a few different things and can't seem to get it right. I tried using a png image that was 960x800 after first trying the 800x480. I tried holding my finger in the crop screen and sliding the selection area but it will not allow me to select the entire image size. So the Evo Sense has 7 screens but why not just one image displayed in full screen, on each screen? What was Google/HTC thinking?!?!?!
I've searched many forums and I just can't seem to find the answers to these questions so far and so I figure it can't hurt to ask around.
Thanks to jmxp69, an answer for number 4: Freeware app called No Lock in the Android market does the trick. Installing it and then activating it will turn off the slide to unlock screen. Furthermore it makes the volume up/down buttons wake up the Evo, the same as the power button does. So far it looks like it does not effect any of the 4 cap buttons.
You can install Menu Unlock form market [donate] or find it on xda for free. It works for me(I removed HtcLockScreen). I'm not sure I like No Lock yet. It works but it seems like it can be too much. Meaning I don't want it to wake and unlock, just wake from the volume buttons then slide or menu to unlock the screen.
That said I'm trying to get something like trackball wake going that will let the phone just be woke from sleep then you'll need to slide or tap menu.
The other thing I'm looking forward to is full display out on the HDMI. I want to see the home screen and games and anything else on the display.
Thanks but now I'm trying to find a way to only disable the lock screen on wake up and only have it show up when the phone rings. Still looking and hoping to find a way to do this.......
