Anyone using Google Sync? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Themes and Apps

Just curious if anyone is using Google Sync. All my contacts and calendars I use are from my Google account. I am just wondering what the best way to continue to use them is.
thanks

thankyou...just tried it out on my Ipod touch..works great.

also when you setup activesync, dont forget to uncheck Task and Emails, as they are not supported by GoogleSync yet.
Also, on Windows Mobile, you cannot sync multiple calendars (but it works on iPhone or Blackberry, which is a shame)

Nuevasync (http://www.nuevasync.com/) can synchronize multiple calendars. I had no problem with the free version.

google sync working with gmail now

Seven
I am using Seven Beta to do my sync. Calender and Push Email from Exchange (through active sync...I'm paranoid), Contacts and Push Email from GMail, Push email from Yahoo, Comcast and Hotmail. It works great and takes less battery then polling for all of these accounts.

thank you!

Google sync for calendar and contacts out today

It seems that finally Google has released a sync for google calendar and contacts for WM (and iPhone) today.
Now to get it working...
http://www.google.com/mobile/winmo/sync.html
Waiting for email and tasks sync too.... Then I will use it for sure...
yea nice... im waiting for this... used http://www.scheduleworld.com all the time
Well I can't get it to work. First screen asks for my email address, then when I enter my log in on the third it blanks out the domain then it just won't sync at the end.
I got it up and running from the phone... First couple attempts failed, but I was choosing the Mail and tasks options, only selecting the Contacts and Cal entries (as per the instructions ) meant it worked normally.
Shorted (sic)
No idea what the issue with mine was, but I reset and tried afresh and it's now going great guns.
Only one calendar?
It only appears to sync the one calendar...
mine doesn't work, i get an error "Your account in Exchange Server does not have permission to synchronize with your current settings. Contact your admin"
Support Code: 85010004
anybody knows what this means?
I've not got it too work either yet, I wonder if it's being staged in a few accounts at a time?
{EDIT}
:doh, forgot I hadn't set a google calendar up on that g account.
As soon as I did and tried again it synched, maybe a coincidence but it's working now..
You have to choose Contacts and Calendar only... NOT Mail and Tasks
i have selected only Contacts & Calendar and i do have an active calendar account on google but still no luck
... i managed to sync my contacts by unticking the calendar option. i guess that would have to do for now
hmk ...
the google description says, i have to enter my whole emails adress and google as domain.
fun part is, i cant enter the domain anymore, as soon i add an "@" sign :/
I tried it and it does work, but it has some limitations.
@grayme
about which calendar it syncs, Google help says it syncs only main calendar, not the others.
this is not enough for some, i want to sync more than one calendar, and the only valid solution for now is the OggSync Pro, which can sync many calendars, and you even select which method to do for each (2 way, incoming only or outgoing only).
@achmed20
google documentation is for an older version maybe, not WM6.1, the first windows you put your gmail address and password, then in later steps it will ask for server.
I wish Google would extend this service for push emails with their Gmail service!
I have to admit i was always reluctant to use much of Google's services apart from searching because they have a very dominant position in the market. But they seem to be implementing the right things for their customers at no extra cost! Who could say no to that?

anyway, I got it finally working once I unchecked calendar. But what I do not understand is why it always try to use the data connection even if I am connected to wifi
Looks nice,
I'm using Nuevasync, does this job the same way. i've got 6 agenda's on my account, and there all in sync..
Well there was an announcement recently that Google have licensed activesync so we may see more to come in this area

So you have tried to sync contacts? does it sync all contact detail? especially the birth date?
i configured my X1 to sync only calendar with Google Sync, for contacts i use Zyb and Funambol (still to decide which is better), i didn't use DashWire becuase it didn't have the birth date field synched...
It does not sync the birthday field. Sync-ed fields are:
- Name, title, company
- Email
- Phone
- Address
- IM
- More information (Notes field for example)

How can I get my google contacts on?

I have activesync setup but it's not importing the google contacts. How do I reset activesync or change it???

it never syncs the contacts though...
Coming from iphone and android. This sync business with the htc hd2 is a real pain in teh ass.
It synced fine but now it keeps on telling me to check my exchange settings.
After it initially synced fine with google.
Hardware rocks but man how do people manage with windows mobile is beyond me.
+1 on the question asked need to know as well.

domain leave blank
server address M.google.com
also sync it 2times and everything will be there
you should sign up for www.miqlive.com service and you never have to work about importing or exporting of contacts
just to clarify....you are using exchange right? not the default gmail setup?

I'm wanting to import the "Phone" contacts from my g1. these are synced with my google account. If I look at google voice for that account all these contacts are there. So how should I do that?
you need to setup Outlook for your gmail, the default gmail is IMAP and syncs email only.
go to outlook setup and fill in your username and password as your gmail credentials. the domain can be left blank and when asked set the server address as m.google.com
once completed you will be given a column of tick boxes, be sure to untick the tasks option.
then sync. it may take a couple of syncs to work; i find that if i go to the actual Activesync app and hit sync it seems to work better the first time round.

awesome! thanks. How can I get rid of the activesync that's on there now? like the one I already set up?
just scroll to the email tab, press Menu, Account Options, Delete.
Hi,
I found that using ActivSync to connect to "Microsoft Exchange" using the GoogleSync settings worked for me (server address m.google.com).

NM, solved.
Mines blank. Are you using HTC's setup wizard or creating an Activesync partnership through Activesync itself?
I always just run the setup by going to Settings, Data Services, Activesync. I then find the actual Activesync programme and select the sync option. Sometimes it takes a couple of goes to kick in, and I usually leave the programme open while it's syncing as occasionally when I put the programme into the background it doesn't finish syncing.

Will HD2 US do aol / yahoo push mail? I've looked at the manual and no mention?

I've looked all over..and can't find a section that mentions push mail from yahoo, aol, etc.
I'm coming from the iPhone so the push mail works on the Yahoo side and I believe on the aol side.
I know that MS exchange has push feature to the phone but what about the other standards? gmail?
I noticed on Cookies HT there is a push mail icon but that did not work (i take it that's for ms direct push?)
Lastly...is there a setting or app that allows ALL mail to send / receive vs just doing one account at a time (annoying)?
Thank you!
the microsoft direct push functionality (supported on ALL windows mobile devices in at least the past 3-4 years) works with ANY microsoft exchange server.
this means it will work for gmail (i am using it myself!) because google has the exchange server on their end. google itself provides a generic windows mobile tutorial on how to set it up and you can find a video guide on youtube specifically on how to set it up on a stock HD2 (technique should work on custom ROMs too). my only additional advice is to back up your contacts (either to microsoft myphone or using pimbackup) before proceeding because the google sync can also upload your contacts to google, and you don't want your contacts to get nuked in case something goes wrong during the initial sync. another potential confusion you might face is that you will see the labels set up on gmail as folders on your device's client. by default, syncing of folders is disabled, but you can go into "manage folders" under one of the menus when viewing your inbox on the device to pick the folders that you want to sync in addition to the inbox. finally, the first sync may take several minutes (even an hour) depending on the duration you have set up to sync (i use a setting for last one month worth of emails) and on your connection speed (try to use wifi for the first sync).
i don't know about yahoo or aol but if they support the microsoft exchange server on their side, then push email should theoretically work in these cases also.
all in all, i rather like the functionality because it is highly configurable. you can even set up "schedules" such that it works in push mode on, say, weekdays from noon to midnight and switch to, say, 4 hour poll mode while you are sleeping.
then again, i haven't experienced push email on any other device such as the black berry or iphone so my view point is rather limited.
Simply put yes. I have yahoo pop3 servive and get my yahoo mail just fine on the HD2

pop3 in "poll mode" is different from push email, which is what the OP was asking about.
however, for most practical purposes, pop3/imap in quick poll mode (like once every 5 minutes) is really not that bad, but it might adversely affect battery life.
i suppose poll mode is fine for most of us but some individuals/businessmen might rely on quick email delivery straight to their phone so its more logical to consider poll vs push as two separate technologies in discussions!
Do the folders selected to be sync with inbox will sync automatically?

Hi,
I was searching for this and thank you for letting me know how to do it! I didn't know there is a "manage folders" option until I scroll down (Din knew I can scroll down, lol)
By the way, as mentioned above, do the folders selected sync automatically? Will they appear on the mail tab?
Thank you.

you can create an exchange account using your gmail login,if you have it,otherwise you can create a new gmail account and use it for send/receive your mail in push:in gmail web page you must add your yahoo account for check and than configure the exchange as i explane!
pop3 is NOT push. There is a delay. Depends on when you have it checking.
As far as i know, the default windows mobile does NOT support push email for yahoo. If you want push email, use seven like i did. Worked fine on my hd2.
http://community.seven.com/main.php
It will allow push email from yahoo and many others. It is NOT an email app where you read them in seven, but a tool to push it to your phones normal email program. (what you would be using now)
I have been using it for a long time and had no problem.

[q] want to migrate to android, but want to keep hotmail (full html) please help!!!

I am tires of WINMO 6.5, and WP7 is not what I want. The only thing is that I can't give up my hotmail, and NO I don't want POP3 version, and the exchange trick won't show me attachments..... not html etc.
I want hotmail to behave like any an regular email client.
As of now this is how I am setup on winmo 6.5:
1. PH#s (contacts with PH#s) + Calendar = Gmail, synced via microsoft exchange (I do this because I use Google voice)
2. Email (Hotmail) + Email contacts - synced via windows live email client
Any advise will be greatly appreciated. Also... I would like to combine somehow all my contacts in one directory that will be synced somehow between gmail (for google voice texts and calls) and hotmail (since I use this all over my PC's and add contacts from different locations. Can I do all this and use ANDROID?? Please help!! Thank you!!! - Peter
lol you already have the right parts. Just finish adding your contacts to Gmail. Sign in to your Gmail account as your Google account on your Android phone and you can automatically sync your Google calendar and Google contacts. You can even auto sync your contacts so that as soon as they're in your phone they'll be added to your contacts. If you're worried about all your email only contacts showing up in your dialer, then you usually have the option to only show contacts with phone numbers.
Gmail (as with most e-mail clients) supports HTML.
You've just reminded me what a PITA WM6.5 was. It was workaround after workaround to get the last workaround to work. There's a reason Microsoft dumped the old "Windows Mobile" name and start fresh. 6.5 compared to ANY modern smartphone software is just dumb. Sorry for the rant, I think I was getting flashbacks @[email protected]
In Gmail you can add your hotmail, yahoo and others through an interface(PC only). When you have your gmail account open in a browser(PC) click the gear in the upper right corner and select mail settings. Then select accounts and imports tab and it's the second option. Super easy as I have done it. As for mail, there is a @mail app built into android. Just google hotmail android and you'll find pop3/imap/exchange settings everywhere. And I do believe that @email android app is HTML viewable.
There is no reason at this point to keep that old 6.5 phone, jump over to Android and you'll totally forget you ever had a lesser phone.
But.. still if I add Hotmail via exchange, it wont let me view attachments... Pop3 is not the way to go, since is not a complete sync with the server (I check Hotmail from different PC's and add/remove contacts constantly. Pop3 won't sync that)

So does this mean I will switch from Hotmail? And when I reply to an email received at hotmail will show my gmail as sender? Again, I don't want to switch from hotmail. All I want is an "email client" for android that fully suports hotmail with 2 way sync. I hope you understand.
P.S. looks like my post shows up twice. How do I delete the other one?
Thank you you guys for your help!!!
I believe "Enhanced Email" for Android does what you're looking for. It can use Exchange ActiveSync and has an option for HTML email.
Also, if you want to sync Gmail and Hotmail contacts, try Soocial.

Login account

In Windows 8, we can login our email account. I am unsure if it restricts to Microsoft account (hotmail account). Currently, I am using GMail account for email client, calendar, address book, etc. As the account is used for work and personal cellphones, I do not want to switch to hotmail for the time being. Under such circumstances, which login account is more appropriate for me? Appreciate your advice!
The login account must be an MS account (or a local one like in previous versions, but then you don't get the benefits of integration like sharing bookmarks and settings across devices), but you can add Google accounts after logging in. However, be aware that Google recently decided to severely limit the access that new Microsoft devices have to Google accounts (as though I needed another reason not to use my gmail...) so while you can set up IMAP access for email, I'm not sure that either calendar or contact sync will work.

I have set up the email programs in "metro" to access my home, work, and gmail accounts. My calendar syncs with the Google calendar. So you should be able to use these. However, I am not impressed with the native email program, and I generally use Thunderbird on the desktop side (the Lightning plug in will access the Google calendar).
When I set up my computer, I logged into the microsoft account using my home email address (which I have previously set up in my MS account).
I use gmail to loggin my account on windows 8.

use BING and then create a Microsoft account their site will allow you to keep your gmail as the name.. Every Microsoft account will get a free Hotmail account associated to their username, if you have outlook it will get upgraded to outlook.com... this will happen if you're running outlook 2013 or office 365
Google has made changes that do not allow WP8 devices & Windows RT devices from accessing m.google.com/sync directly now. However, theres is a work-around to sync to multiple Google calendars. Please follow these steps from your desktop computer:
1. In IE10, click on the Tools button (Alt+T)
2. Click on F12 developer tools
3. In the window that pops-up, click on Tools
4. Expand the "Change user agent string" tab and select "Apple Safari (iPAD)"
5. Go back to the IE10 window and go to exactly this URL: "https://m.google.com/sync/settings/" (with the https and the slash after settings)
6. Sign into your google account if you aren't, already.
7. Click on "WindowsPhone"
8. In the URL, if you see this string (without the quotes): "supportMultiCalendars=false", change this to "supportMultiCalendars=true" and reload the page.
9. Now your google calendars will show up. The main google calendar will show up as "My Calendars". The other calendars will show up as "Shared Calendars" and calendars under this option will not be selected.
10. If you cannot select these "other calendars", disable JavaScript in IE10. Do this by following instructions here (these instructions are for IE9, but apply to IE10 also):http://browsers.about.com/od/interne...script-ie9.htm
11. Select the calendars you want to add.
12. Click on "Save".
13. On your WP8 device, go to settings -> email+accounts and sync your Google account.
14. Open the Calendar app on your WP8 device to make sure your "other Google calendars" now show up in the app.
This fixes the calendar issues on Windows RT and Windows Phone devices also.
Strange as my Gmail calendar works fine on my new windows 8 ultrabook without having to do anything

A single calendar is expected to (although that may change, the way Google restricted mail access a while back) but multiple calednars, if you want them all to show up, have historically required the above steps. I currently have only one Google Calendar (and barely even use it) so this isn't something I know from experience, but on Windows Phone it was known to be required and Win8 connects in the same way as the phone.
