How install apps to memory card? - G1 General

So, how i can install programm/games to memory card? Because i need many programm and i don't have enought memory to phone

First you will need to root your phone, then create an ext3 partition for your apps, then install a ROM that supports automatic Apps2SD.
I've left out a link for rooting as there's a one-click meothod for that now, so if someone could post a link that would be great.

Thank you AdrianK, it's work!

How to install apps2ext on paul 2.2

Hello. I am struggling with this for three days now. I can't seem to make it work. So I think I need a detailed how-to because obviously I am doing something wrong.
I am using this clockwork recovery image: http://android.modaco.com/content/z...27215/oled-tft-2-5-1-8-clockworkmod-recovery/
Then I go to clockwork recovery mode and create 1GB ext partition. Wipe everything from everywhere.
After that I install paul's alpha3 prebake.
What happens is I have 1GB less storage on my class4 8GB SD, but don't see the ext3 partition (where should I look for it exactly)
In normal use the only way you'll know if its working or not is if you run out of space or not.
To find your ext partition look in '/sd-ext' or '/system/sd', you might need a file explorer that can use root privileges, I use estrongs. If the directories 'app' and 'app-private' are there then its working.
If your still sure its not working double check that the prebaked version comes with apps2sd...not all do.
Thank you. I think the prebaked alpha3 version doesn't have the apps2sd scripts. I tried to install Darktremor Apps2SD 2.7.5.2 but it killed my OS and had to flash it again. So is there any specific a2SD that I can use with this rom?
OK. I installed the Japanese jellyfish ROM yesterday and everything works like a charm so I guess prebaked alpha3 didn't have the apps2sd scripts.
Thank you again for your help, mate!
what is apps2ext?
It basically gets some storage space from the SD card and lies the system that it's part of the apps section of the internal memory

so it is basically like a different storage architecture for the SD card? Like we can have fat32, ntfs etc?
I am no expert here. From what I know - scripts create some symlinks so the app storage is actually placed on the sd, but the system doesn't know that and thinks it is still the old place. The path is the same, but it actually is something like a shortcut. The ext is probably because it needs to be linix partition or something...
This is what I think and it may not be true however

internal memory space problem

hi guys
pls help me, for few days with no installing new apps my phone is warning me abut little internal space, i cant get sms etc. i uninstall some app any time i get notice about running out of space and there after time im getting the info again and again... what can be problem? i dont use the phone but my phone is loosing internal memory space
im running stock 2.1
thanks for your advice...
2 options are there -
option 1 - create an ext2 or ext3 partition of your SD card, root your phone then either install app2sd or link2sd [link2sd is easier to install & use, but both won't coexist / work] . then move apps to sd card[in link2sd you can select which apps should go to sd card, apps2sd move all of your apps to sd]
option 2 - install a custom rom, i.e, either froyo or gingerbread, there you get the option to move ur apps to sd card.

[Q]help in apps2sd

i already do some TUT here in xda and faild to make it.
i rooted well my x8 with superoneclick
i tried unsing xrecovery 2 install apps2sd i think i made it to install but when im going to install an apps its says need to free some memory but my sd card has space. ext2 has a free space about 700mb. checked it through link2sd
i cant install games/apps that has 50mb+ installer
i also try the cmd method in installing the apps2sd but when i type sh /sdcard/apps2sd.sh its says cant open file.
but the file is in the root of sd card
please help tnx in advanced more power xda =)
I think it's a apps2sd issue .... i read somewhere that you need to have free phone storage 2 times the application size to install it ... on native app2sd on android 2.3 roms there is no problem with larger files because you can install directly to the SD fat32 partition
hmmm better to use android 2.3?
but i have 140mb space in my phone storage and im going to install an 53mb size of apps but still it says free up some memory >.<
what is the better solution for it?

[Q] Where is my memory going ?

I've xcd35 also known as zte blade. I've not installed many applications, still I see only around 25MB free space in my phone memory
What can be the reason for this ?
Have you taken a lot of photos or videos possibly and are those not being saved on the SD card?
Yes, i did took many photos but they are on my sd card.
Still I don't know where did the space go.. can anyone help me in getting back my space ?
Maybe you should install some app such as file manager from market (I can't provide a link, search "file manager", it's the first result by rhythm software). Then go ahead and select "Storage analysis" after clicking menu. It'll do a complete scan of your phone+SD-card and then shows you the biggest space hoarders.
I installed file manager and it says following,
device total memory: 162.5 M
device free memory : 24.57M
sd total memory: 1.86M
sd free memory: 1.15M
Also, it gives the biggest space holders, but all those are in my sd (like one app tak 570+ MB and my documents take 33M, both are in my sd).
the list all space holders includes the folders in sd card only.. How do I see status of internal memory ?

Open CWM clear cache partition and then advanced clear dalvik cache and reboot it should clear your memory u must be surfing a lot on stock browser if even this didn't solve your problem reset your phone
What is cwm ? And where can I find it ?

The 162.5MB is the total internal memory available for your apps and their data. The 24.57MB is how much of that is free at the moment. When you move an app to the sdcard, some of it is left behind on the internal memory, so you can't get rid of all of it. You can increase the amount of internal memory available by creating an ext partition on your sdcard (though it looks like you only have a 2GB sdcard, so you wouldn't have much space left for music etc. on it) and then using something like darktremor a2sd to move your apps to the new ext partition. This works differently from the normal move to sdcard as it allows you to move the whole app so frees more space.
The other option is repartitioning the internal memory. This means you take some of the space from where the rom is installed, and add it to the data partition so you can make use of it. For this to work well you need to use/be using a custom rom as the stock ones wont fit in the reduced space.

This isn't really a long term solution. The dalvik cache is needed by the phone, so wiping it will only temporarily give you more space until the phone rebuilds it all once you use your apps again. The cache partition is separate from the data partition, so wiping that would make no difference to how much space you have available.

Which ROM you are working on? It seems like you have stock ROM as you are unaware of CWM. If you are using stock rom, you need to switch to any custom rom to flash darktremor a2sd so that you can partition you sd card and install applications on them. You can get complete tutorial on installing CWM and custom rom from cyanogenmod website. You can uninstall bloatwares if there any to free your phone memory.

I can change my sd card to 16 or 32 GB .
That is not a problem..
Now, can you please tell me how do I do external partitioning ?
or how do I do repartitioning of internal memory?

You need to root and install a custom rom to partition both internal as well as external memory efficiently. You can flash darktremor a2sd script that allows you to install apps on partitioned sd card to your rooted stock rom but it won't work (didn't work for me).
Almost all the custom rom come with darktremor a2sd pre-installed on it. So it is advised to switch to any custom rom. But beware, both rooting and installing custom rom will void your warranty. Once you install a custom rom, i'm sure you will love it.
You can find guide on partitioning internal memory on the following links
h**p://android.modaco.com/topic/339048-guide-flashing-firmware-to-bladelibra-via-windows/
and here
h**p://android.modaco.com/topic/337426-gen1gen2partition-layout-tool-windows-only/
But i personally won't recommend partitioning you internal memory as the following ICS rom uses the default like partition.
You can follow the following link below to root and flash cyanogenmod
h**p://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=ZTE_Blade
If you find rooting steps given in the guide difficult you can install z4root from following link and install it on your phone to root the phone easily.
h**p://www.4shared.com/file/TA3fZuTc/z4root_zte_blade_permanent_roo.html
Once you install cyanogenmod install "ROM MANAGER" from market and there you will find the option to partition your sd card.

You can partition the sdcard from ClockworkMod recovery, which you need to flash the custom rom or the darktremor scripts to make use of the ext partition. Some roms come with it pre-installed, others you have to flash it separately.
You can repartition the internal memory by TPT or Windows flasher. TPT is the easier and safer method. From your internal memory stats you posted earlier, it looks like you are stock Gen 2, but download the Mr Pigfish app from the market to check.
If it says you are Gen 1, then you can use one of wbaw's TPTs from his thread on here, or you can use them from my app. Once you use one of these, you will be converted to Gen 2 as well.
If you are Gen 2 already then you are most likely stock Gen 2 and will need to use the TPT's from my app (choosing the stock Gen 2 option when it starts), from the thread I made on here, or by using the Windows flasher.
Here's a tip that I just recently discovered.
Since apps that are flashed in your rom (like Market) cannot be deleted in a conventional sense, a duplicate of the app is created whenever they are updated. I found an app called apps2rom that moves the updated version to the rom, and deletes the old version.
I got a good 10mb from that.

[HELP] Partition issue, no more space for apps

Hi all, thanks for kind support,
I've a 900V CID11 bootloader locked, unrooted, I installed MM 6.0.1 by safestrap.
MY phone is 16GB but it looks I've really small space for apps, someone can kindly describe me how the storage is allocated?
As I guess reading around, the safestrap eat me 2,5gb for some reason, then there is the rom space, then the "sdcard" folder for data. On sdcard I still have 500MB available but I think the phone doesn't want to use them for installing apps. I've 32GB SD but it looks also that with uroot phone I can't move apps there.
Any way to expand the space for installing apps? Any way to repartition the space? Use the 2,5gb of safestrap? Maybe repeat the procedure using flashfire?
By now I've a serious limitation. Thank you for help
I ask kind help, thank you
Well your only option is to look up how to use your 32gb as card as adoptable storage

thanks for answer,
may you kindly explain me breifly how the whole storage is allocated on the phone memory? What can it change if I'll have root (what can I edit/reallocate) and if one day someone will unlock the bootloader and I can load everything? (can I use the supposed 2,.5GB safestrap partition as system?)
Thank you
help needed to understand, thank you
do you need to know how to use the adoptable storage? And sorry for taking so long
I would know how 1)
Android partize the internal memory,
2) why data wipe is not wiping the /sdcard folder (I'm speaking about intenal memory),
3) if there exist a ROM partition and if it the same of "System" or two different
4) if it is possible to edit files inside System and ROM with root permissions
5) if System has a rigid partition size, or depends on the quantity of internal, and which criteria is used to assign the space.
6) If gapps are all stored in System
7) Where the 3rd party apps are stored
8) Where folder data is located, and it's not /sdcard folder.
9) if safestrap eats 2,5GB of space and hide it from a file explorer.
10 ) if it's possible to reduce safestrap partiton
11) if the space used from safestrap reduces directly the "system" partition, or even "data" and "/sdcard"
12) if it's possible to edit the partitions size, for example I've a big SD card and I sould like to use the internal memory almost for installing apps.
Thank you a lot!!! I can't find such infos.. and that is quite amazing. You can answer briefly
somebody can help clear? Thank you
Hopefully somebody can reply me, thanks
Do you still need help
Yes please, I would know how Android works with the storage, I think there are some hidden partitions that I can't see with xplore, containing ROM.
Xplore tells I've 11GB internal memory (and the phone has 16, where are othere 4/5?)
And also tells that:
root total amount is 2,47 GB, free 16%of 11GB=1,7GB
Internal storage (SD card folder)= 1,44GB, , free 16%of 11GB=1,7GB
2,47+1,44+1,7=5,61, where are other 5GB to make 11GB?
I think I lost somewhee 9 GB!
Thank you for help!
This might explain it more

What you are saying sounds about right with safestrap and rom slots. And 16gb just isn't all that much space to work with.
Root Essentials will allocate your sd card for you. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.superthomaslab.rootessentials
Also, with safestrap...are you using the main rom slot to boot into? if not, you should, then delete the other rom slots, that will free up a ton of space. plus if i were you, i would get rid of safestrap and flash TWRP on your phone. http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...t/rd-unlocking-galaxys-s5-bootloader-t3337909
Good luck
I thank you very much for your kind help!
Let's proceed by order, ok about the real 14,6GB, but does the ROM shows itself in xplore in the root folder? I think it should.. like I can see C:\ on the windows OS with all the system files. Or does Android hide the ROM files?
I agree about Safestrap caused it, I used it to mount the Android 6, I unfortunately have a CID11 S5 and I can't have it rooted, how can I recover the Safestrap wasted space? I think I'm using only the main ROM, I followed the procedure to root Lollipop and upgrade with Safestrap to MM.
Thank you a lot!
Any help here? Thank you a lot!
