Phone won't turn on - Touch HD General

I just unboxed my T8285 yesterday. I charged it up and the green light came on which I assume means it's fully charged, so I put my sim card in and turned it on. It buzzes when you press the power button and when I hold it next to my speakers they make that noise that speakers make when someone's phone is ringing too close to them, so you can tell it's turned on and connecting to the network. But nothing shows up on the screen, it's as if the screen isn't turned on. Also, I tried calling myself from another phone, and it rings (it doesn't go straight to voicemail like it would if the phone were just turned off), but the device doesn't make a sound or turn the screen on like it should when it's coming out of standby. Anyone know what's happening?

Uhm, that sounds crappy... Normally by pressing the on/off button the screen should turn on/off. But then it's still weird that it doesn't turn on while calling. At the back of the phone is a small red button, this resets your device, maybe pressing that one helps?
Good luck! I hope you'll get it fixed.

If you have just unboxed and experienceing these issues it sounds like a faulty device caused by either loose connections in screen/motherboard
I would return device and get replacement under warranty or to shop you purchased it.

JAM does not turn off after being turned off

If I check in "Settings-System-Power-Advanced-On battery power" to turn my JAM off if it is not used for some time (e.g. 3 minutes), it goes off and then I can not turn it on. I tried to push/hold power button, nothing helped but soft reset. If I turn my JAM off manually by pushing power button I can turn it back on manually too. But after 3 or 4 times it acts just like it was turned off automatically, i.e. iregardless if I push or hold power or any button, LED flashes green and the phone does not turn on. The worst part of it is after I push Power button trying to turn my JAM on and LED indicator starts flashing green (and JAM still remains off) if somebody tries to call me he hears the signal as if my phone is ringing (not busy signal or "The number you dial is not available right now" etc.)
Does anybody know what the problem can be? I've got this problem even after hard reset with no third-party applications installed.
non functioning of on/off switch
Check the connectors of your battery on the inside of the JAM. I had the same problem and I found out that one of the connectors did not really "touch" the battery.
I checked it. The contacts on the battery look like they were scratched by contacts on the phone, so I'd think the connectors are in good contact. I even tried to put a small piece of paper between the battery and phone bodyon the left side to make sure it is really pushed to another side, it did not help either
JAM does not turn on after being turned off
Did anyone ever find out the answer to this??! I have the same problem with mine except it's a bit random - mostly doesn't turn back on again after an auto power off for a long(ish) period of time - like at night.
sounds like a possible fault is occurring. Best thing is to do a full backup of your system and then do a hard reset your device and see if the same thing is still happening. If it is, try the positioning of battery as suggested in earlier posts and if still happening, then a handheld service is required

How to stop screen from staying lit after a missed called (while charging)?

Everytime I have my phone connected to the charger and receive a missed call, the screen remains lit until I actually turn the phone off again. Is there anyway to prevent this? I don't want to have to turn off the phone/display everytime I recieve a missed call, while it is charging.
Go into the backscreen and power options and change the way the device acts when it's plugged in.

Screen Turing off during Call

Am sure that i have seen this somewhere but i searched to no avail.
When making a call the screen will still turn off, which means if i want to do anything during the call i have to push the power button on the side of the device to turn it back on to hangup etc.
Any Ideas ??
I thought this was a good thing. The screen turns off in order to save the battery. If you want it back on you just tap the power button and do whatever you want to do. If it stayed on for entire phone calls you would end up with very short battery life.
However, there may be a registry edit that can lengthen this time or make it stay on for the entire call. I just wouldn't recommend it.
For me, hanging up works when the screen is off. I think.
thanks guys, i just came from the phone world and i suppose i want my PDA to have the same battery life as the old nokia, but i also want all the cool pda features.
Just not going to happen.

it does, just carry a couple of extra batteries and you're set. Now the question is would you trade this for that?

Funny thing is i would carry the batteries. I got off ebay and ordered for my boss and myself car kit, batteries, and docking station with battery charger. So for the time that im not @ my desk or in the car we should be set.
Mine doesn't turn off during calls, but i do turn it off manually with the power button so my ear doesn't open apps during the call.
Mine doesnt turn off either, is this a rom specific or am i missing an option somewhere, at the moment i press the power button on the side when i make a call, cos im forever pressing the screen and opening stuff, then have to close it all when the call ends, let me know what im missing out on
Neil.
I WANT my screen to turn off when phoning..
How do I set this up?
Hey,
I think this is the same "timeout" that you have set for your screen to turn off in the powersave feature. I haven't looked, but I think it only turns the backlight off, not the screen.
Unfortunately the hermes screen is hard to see AT ALL when the backlight is off. Some past devices I had, you could still READ during daylight.
HTH
ok i find it funny that nobody thinks that it is anoying as fk that the screen turns off if you are calling say to activate a card or any automated answering service and need to type numbers in you dont have access to it ..so I guess I will re ask the question is there a reg hack to make the screen stay on while in a call any help would be nice ty

HTC HD2 End Button

Is there a way to enable sleep during a call? Right now if I am on call and I want to put the phone to sleep (turn the screen off) it would end the conversation.

Something is wrong? It should turn off when put it up to you cheek? sensor might not be working?
I am sorry if I didn't provide enough information. All that works properly. Its just that when I use the phone with my car's bluetooth I want to be able to turn off the screen to preserve battery life. But instead it ends the call.
well my handset if nothing passes in front of the sensor then after 10 seconds or so the screen turns off anyway. however if something passes in front and then away again, screen comes back on again for around 10 seconds or so.

[Q] is it possible to turn off the screen when i am on the phone?

hey everyone,
this is the first post on xda!(wow)
anyway, i got my fascinate at local verizon store on yesterday (9/11).
so far i love it.
I just wonder if i could turn off the screen while i am on the phone with someone.
When I was on the phone, I pushed power button to turn off the screen.
and it did go off, but in few seconds i went back on!
so i pushed the power button again to turn off the screen.
and it did turned off again but back on in few seconds.
is it impossible to keep the screen turned off for whole time?
thanks.
The screen should turn off when you put it next to your face, and turn on when you take it away, while on a call.
To check if your proximity censor is working, call your voice mail, and put your hand above where the ear piece is, and the screen will turn off, if it doesn't, then that would be a hardware fault and would require a replacement.
wow thankx frostman89
