This says the Vogue does not have WiFi. Is this true? Does one need a non standard ROM to enable or do we have a DNE?
I am a Total Newb, so If you want to tell me to go read something that would be great.

I know that my Srpint Touch does not do wifi. Not sure about other flovors/carriers.
holy fast reply. And all the way from katmandu? heh
Does that mean your phone does not have the ability to do WiFi, say if you used another rom, or that it has no wiFi hardware? Or, like me, do you have no idea?

I suspect that the hardware is missing, or some smart dev here at xda would have implemented it (hell, look what they are doing with android), but to be honest i really have no idea
The vogue (AKA CMDA Touch) has no wifi chip in it. The Elf (aka GSM Touch) does have it.

Hey all..
I recently switched from Qwest to Verizon and they gave me a Blackberry 8330.. needless to say, we didn't get along - the Blackberry and I - so they sent me the XV6900 and now I'm wondering what all I can do with it
I used to run DCD's roms on my Qwest Mogul, but had to warranty replace the Mogul and when the new one came, Qwest released the GPS enabled ROM.. so, I used it with that stock Qwest ROM for a bit and lost touch here.
Questions:
I was talking to a few people about GPS (I want to use my TomTom 6 subscription on my XV6900) and they said they I could flash one of several ROMs available here but that I would not be able to flash back to the stock Verizon Wireless ROM should I need to.. is this true?

Will I lose any functionality if I choose to use an 3rd party ROM on my XV6900?

Basically, the only things I'd like to 'fix' about my XV6900 are; I'd like it to use less resources & I'd like to use the internal GPS chip, if possible.
Thanks in advance, and.. please bare with me guys! I'm not completely new to this, I just couldn't find exact nswers to my questions when I searched.

I personally use Ghettoryder's ROM over at PPCGeeks. I like it because it maintains the ## codes, but you can also use the BuildOS app to cook your own ROM. In short, most of the GPS ROMs will not cause you to lose any functionality.
I'm lovin' my Rev. A and GPS here on Sprint.
I have recently bought the HTC Touch 3g (codename Jade) as I used to have the HTC touch and I wanted inbuilt GPS and the 3G speed internet. I bought a second hand phone off ebay and while all the features work fine, I have noticed that it doesnt pick up a 3g connection! It connects to the net but only using GPRS and/or EDGE which is the same as my old phone, the same old slow speed!! I took it to my local ORANGE UK shop where some dumb blonde pressed a few buttons on it and told me it was the phones fault.
Please help! I don't really want to take her word for it.
Any help would be really really appreciated!!
Steveo
It is possible that you bought a clone, see here for details:

Yeah I have checked but I dont think it is. I have already flashed it with WM6.5. I checked the CPU and it is all correct.
Is it possible that if this is a hardware error then JUST THE 3G part doesnt work?

In WM 6.1 there are options to deactivate 3G (Settings/Phone/Band and Settings/Advanced Settings/HSDPA - all translated from German). Probably in WM 6.5 there is something similar and perhaps not activated.
I do not think that only 3G-hardware does not work without any other problems.
Do you think if I took it to a hardware shop they would be able to confirm? I flashed it back to original rom last night and its still no use. Checked the registry settings too. I saw the H logo for about 2 seconds last night. I am in a 3g area. Its super annoying! I spent £160 on this phone on ebay and the bloody woman refuses to return the item!!!!

I think this is an option, I have no other idea.
Hello all, I have been in the Blackberry world for a few years so I am a little out of touch on WM. I have spent about an hour with the HD2 and I am sold. One thing I noticed is the lack of Wifi Router. I know the European version has it and I would like to know if it is something easily ported to the US version? Thanks for any input and if this is a stupid question I am sorry, just haven't been on the WM scene for a while.
P.S. I know I could use WMWifirouter but I would like to try the HTC app (also help that its free).
I suppose it depends if there is a Sim free version made by HTC.
The version we have in europe is a different model.
If there is a sim free version made, there is nothing to stop you from flashing that ROM to a T-Mobile branded device (in theory).
That should give you all the functions HTC put in.
the o2 uk version doesnt have it either. I shoudnt worry, its readily available.

Sorry, I have searched the forums but could not find it. Could you please give a link to where you can download a cab to enable the wifi router function?

make sure laptop is seeing it as an ad hoc connection, not infrastructure.
Is that a joke? What adhoc? It wouldn't work for me either (LEO). I can not see it from my laptop, no DHCP or static IP with the router SSID forced either.
Nevermind restart fixed all problems and that's really ad hoc!
Hey I have what's called a htc wifi router. Do a search for that. I'm pretty sure I have picked up the .cab from this site. This program works great tho.
im useing the router to send this! thank you much!
I've got an Alltel Touch- I don't want to use it as a phone- I want to use it as a WI-FI internet Device. I think the phone has wi-fi capability- but the Alltel ROM disabled it????.....It there anyway to wipe it and Start fresh w/o the alltel ROM??? When I hard reset it, it immediately says "Alltel is customizing your device", and proceeds to load the Alltel ROM...Help!....Please!
The Vogue has no wi-fi
Look under the ROM section for ROMs...
@Jerry,
As scotttr mentioned, the Vogue has no hardware for Wifi. The Elf (Vogue's GSM counterpart) is the one equipped with this feature.. If you are going to flash something, first make sure that you are flashing onto the correct device or you will break your device.
hi, long time reader, signed up just to post this.
Currently running NFSFAN WM6.5 1.00 Final, wondering if there is a way to substitue bluetooth PAN for Wifi. Can i create a PAN/PANU on my desktop and use it as an internet/isp source for the Vogue?
Thanks in advance, even if answer is flat out no. if it IS no, please explain why? i'm the curious type and would greatly appreciate the additional information, as it might stop me from making future stupid posts.

You mean internet sharing via BT from the PC to the device?
This is a brand new unrooted Mytouch 4G, so I suppose I haven't done anything wrong yet. =P
I tried the wifi connection on this phone, and it usually works great. But I later found out the it's not very stable. I carry this phone with me and walk around the campus, it doesn't always receive wifi signal like my iPad would always do. Also, sometimes even when it shows that I am connected, the internet based software such as skype will not work (making phone call without hearing any voice).
Is there a software/app that can help? Or maybe I should root my phone for a better version of operating system?
On the stock ROM and all Sense ROMs, there is an option under WiFi Settings -> Advanced -> Best WiFi Performance. Try selecting that and see if it makes a difference.

WOO! lol i found someone in the same boat as me...I go college as well and my ipad connects fine, but my laptop and phone (for some weird reason do not). Ive tried a whole variety of differernt rom and kernel combinations including stock, but nothing would work. I really really really wanted to stay stock on my phone because I like it so much, but it just wouldnt work. Then I tried the evil 4g HD rom with fauxs sense smartass kernel and suddenly wifi was working amazing! It connected as soon as I clicked turn on wifi and stayed connected throughout the day even though I was walking around campus. Plus the rom has sense so its not straying too far from stock! I dont know what the reason is, but you should give it a go and see if it works for you!
I finally determine to try your method. I can't find evil 4G HD rom. Did you mean Evo?
